people underestimate the energy and feel this guy brings to music. you can have all the chops and fills in the world but if you don't have these intangibles, you're not going to be a great musician.
I remember when Travis came on the scene in the 1990s. A few cover bands I was in played some Blink 182 stuff, and a few of my students at the time were asking me to teach them his parts. I would transcribe the songs and then teach my students how to transcribe it for themselves. I came to appreciate Travis’ talent. He had speed and power, but he also had a good sense of taste and finesse. By studying his parts for my students I learned that I had been a bit smug regarding the “new music” at that time. Teaching his parts to others taught me to check my preconceptions at the door. We’re never too old to learn and improve upon ourselves. 👍
I remember having to do these with my drum teacher back in like 2002 when I was 15-16; he was this old Bulgarian guy who had every possible letter following his name that any number of music degrees could get him, the man was an absolute genius. I had to do entire recitals with him on piano, another teacher on bass or guitar, where I’d have to read like 12 pages worth of sheet music with nothing but these exact kind of doubles everywhere. Then during my very last recital after like 7 or 8 years or something with him, on the last page, he just X’d the entire page out with a red marker and then wrote “JAM SESSION!!” - and it just turned into what was probably the most boring recital, to the three of us just having the most unreal time jamming together, to the point where every parent in the audience was on their feet dancing by the end of it. That’s basically my only experience of what it feels like to be applauded for after kicking ass in a band on stage and having the crowd go apeshit for us haha 😂🤦🏻♂️ (And kudos to anyone who read this whole comment and doesn’t have something completely negative to say to me now lol 😆)
Blink without a drummer like Travis never would have done anything. His drumming is what makes the songs so good. Tom and Mark can barely play anything technical. They write catchy stuff though so it’s a good mix. Travis is very talented.
@@Bls-of1ld yes, Scott was the original drummer. Travis and Scott are the same type of drummer. The band wouldn’t work without an extremely talented drummer. My point is they write catchy songs and they can barely play their instruments Travis is the exception.
Travis played it and then slightly changed it after saying I love those, and went back. Playing it, putting a kick in front of snare and moving it back half a beat, and back to normal
Honestly being a fan of Travis since the mid 90s, i always wondered what people who can drum thinks about his technical abilities, evidently unbiased opinions. Everybody is different right and unique to themselfs, but is he good? You hear other artist say he is etc. Would love someones opinion that can play good drums, probably plenty of you guys / girls out there?
Why's he overrated? He's more than just a drumkit, he knows how to make a hit that's why he's where he is. You don't get to his position just being a good drummer, there's loads of them about. He knows what to put into a song to make it better.
@@Pilot_the_Dune I just told you that's not the case. He's not just a drummer, he's a producer that works closely with his collaborators to make a hit. He's got a great ear for music. That's why he's successful, nothing to do with winning the luck lottery.
@@Pilot_the_Dune So you just admitted it. TALENTED is the keyword. Yeah sure he had luck but that only gets you so far. The rest was all him and his talent. Some people get lucky and are one hit wonders. He's been around for ages.

After Midnight fucking slaps
But it makes me sad 🥺
Loved this interview and I want more 😎👌 we need a whole deep dive in studio 👏
He’s just so crisp w it
After Midnight is a great song.
Travis does a wonderful job on the drums. What a great beat! 😀👍🏻❤️
Sounds awesome. Basically a 5 stroke roll, really effective use of rudiments, there's so much to learn from Travis.
My favorite Blink song by a long mile.
Very talented guy
Plus , he practices every chance he gets....true love of the Art.
Always on other good bands tracks and they are hits
One thing we know about Travis - dude LOVES drumming
My man's taking the Hi in Hi-Hat to a whole new level 😂
From personal experience, it’s probably so both hands won’t collide while playing on the hi-hat and snare.
It’s almost like trap drumming. Clay Aeschliman from Polyphia does a lot of that kind of stuff
i dont know whether your serious or sarcastic with that emoji.
Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....your man is as remedial as they come
@@krusher74 sarcastic or ‘hasn’t checked out very many drummers’
I just learned how to play it a couple days ago thanks Travis Barker it's so fun to play
Sick, the two doubles like that, have never done them like that, will give it a go.
I love that song :)

El Estepario thinking hold my beer, I’ll do it with one hand 😎👍🏼😳
Lol
The estepario talk about travis in this interview
Travis sits back with all the fame and money not givin 2 shits..
Barker's a fuckin beast
Great drummer who made a great name for himself.
You seem so humble
Fantastic...it really works
greatest drummer convo. sure…some argue…
does anyone love playing the drums more? Noooooo. he loves it so hard
Those double strokes on the hat sound so good
I love how I could point out immediately where I recognized it from, aside form him literally saying After Midnight
I also love those
I can watch Travis do his thing all day. He's a incredible drummer and incredible human being.
My favourite 👍

Does anyone know what he’s using as a kick pad here? That practice setup with the moon gel pads is genius
Doing the crossover on the third downbeat is what kills this for me.

Accent the second stroke watch the lang tutorial. Sounds so much butter
That stick flip though lol
I have a subhumans patch on the back collar of my Blue flight jacket punk rock band from a long time ago.
It sounds like when a car drives by listening to rap and that synth hi hat shit is all I can hear.

The best drummer in the world right here!
I don’t know about best but he’s definitely good
Cool
That was so inentive 😏
THANK GOD HES WEARING A SUB SHIRT 😭

Sounds like a buzz roll
I miss his mohawk
How does he make practice pads sound tuned?
😂
Call me crazy, they are literally triple strokes? He hits two sets of three hits.
Yeah but there were 2 Subhuman bands one from Canada one from England, I like Canadian way better. Even though that’s probably Subs from Eng.
When will Jake flip Albania and split my soul
I can do that same thing but with single strokes.
I am not sure they are triplets as written in the sheet music, but I may be wrong
Cause that's what they are.
