If you like playing DCS, Thrustmaster is coming out with an F/A-18 grip. Thrustmaster has already made a F-16 HOTAS, you would have to buy them used off Ebay, they stopped making them, they switched to Warthog HOTAS. I'm sure you already knew that but, I only mention it because I have the Warthog HOTAS, but I bought a Virpil throttle and and base. The Virpil base's are compatible with Thrustmaster grips and they make Russian HOTAS grips if you ever wanted a SU-27 or MIG-29 grip. Thrustmaster stick's internals is just a plastic cup sitting on a plastic ball(with a little grease) with a Hall Sensor, if something breaks its not designed for 'user servicing' but Virpil base's for Thrustmasters grip are, and it has cams, springs and bearing the feed back you get from it is better, you can also change the cams and springs. I can't recommend Virpil enough. Thrustmasters makes great products, but Virpil is so much better. Last get 'Voice Attack' its a program that lets you 'talk' to what ever program you set it up for, windows, email, your web browser. There are several Voice Attack profiles on DCS forums, and its not that hard to use. You can request clearance's, turn on the batteries, change TACAN's, radio's etc. I would love to see you making more DCS videos, thanks for these videos.
I bailed on my WARTHOG HOTAS and switched to Virpil completely. HUGE difference in accuracy. The Thrustmaster Grip was way more comfortable. Will probably mount a F-18 stick on the base in the near future.
@@Bananimal65 I ditched my Warthog for Virpil to. My complaints about the throttle are, I bought it too soon, I want the 'CM' version, and lastly, the range of motion on the throttle is alot shorter than a Warthog. So I made an extension for my Virpil Throttle. If you have access to a 3D printer here is the link www.thingiverse.com/thing:3652489 . As for the F/A-18 grip, I'm just waiting on the 25 of July myself.
Your DCS videos are the best Mover! Please keep them coming. There is a lot of knowledge you can share with us, especially with the DCS F-16 on its way (unless you wanted to dive into Falcon 4 BMS) Out of curiosity, what is your joystick and PC setup?
I think it's pretty awesome and special for a real life fighter pilot to pass such amazing detailed info on the DCS aircraft. Subscribed and bell active. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these incredible videos
Glad you're back in DCS!! Awesome!!! It is super interesting listening to an irl pilot talk about the differences between dcs and real aircraft. That's a Mig-28 btw... ;)
So this video helped me land this beast of a jet. Was having problems with it in dcs. I am using this jet to practice bfm in before moving to the dcs f-16. Great Vid, The only thing that i can say is i don't know how you recorded it but with oculus inside of the oculus installation folder, under \Support\oculus-diagnostics There is a OculusMirror.exe that replicate what you see. if after that you create a shortcut on desktop and under target you add ' --Size 1920 1080' (without the ' ') it will render with a greater quality.
@@AdmiralQuality No, the image is rendered at the exact same resolution regardless of the mirror settings. Think of it like adjusting the resolution of a livestream (ignoring the extra power used to encode the video) - the game is always rendered at the same resolution, it's just resized differently before being shown on the PC screen. Here's how rendering a frame on the Rift works: * The game asks the Oculus runtime how large the undistorted screen size is (due to the geometry of the lenses, the game has to render an image larger than the actual screen resolution. users can also increase this value in a process called 'supersampling') * The game draws the image at that resolution * The game sends the image to the Oculus runtime * The Oculus runtime applies ATW, ASW/ASW2 and PTW. These are all techniques to make the game look smoother when it's running slowly. This is a major component in preventing users from getting motion sick. * If the mirror is running, it sends a copy of this image to the mirror, which then resizes the image depending on the input arguments. This is ridiculously fast, and not worth caring about from a performance standpoint. * The Oculus runtime applies something call distortion. The lenses concentrate more of the user's vision onto the centre of the screen (making text look shaper there, which is normally where users will be looking), while using less pixels to fill in the peripheries. If the runtime sent the image straight to the screen, everything would be bunched up in the centre. To correct for this, the runtime pulls the centre out and squishes the outsides before sending it to the screen. > I assume anyway, I don't think VR is quite ready for prime-time yet For simulator enthusiasts, it absolutely is IMO. I can't imagine dogfighting in DCS without VR - I'd compare it to the difference between flying with a PS4 controller and a proper joystick. The Rift S is relatively cheap (for headsets at least), is very easy to set up and use, and has good quality optics. > and even when it is, I'm not sure how I'll keep from knocking my beer off my desk. ;) You can place it a bit further away, and double-tap a button on the Rift S's controller to go into 'passthough+' mode, where you can see your surroundings without taking the headset off.
@@AdmiralQuality > I thought everyone recommends not using ASW because it's a post processing pan/tilt effect meant to mitigate unsatisfactory frame rates and doesn't work well with DCS. Some people do, I personally prefer leaving it on, especially for low-level stuff. Otherwise the terrain will only move every second frame, which I personally dislike more than the artefacts you get from ASW. > It lets your viewing angle have a higher frame rate than the rest of the world, which is just nutty. That's ATW. ATW (asynchronous timewarp) takes the last frame and moves it around inside your headset when the game doesn't have the next frame ready in time. I'm not sure you can turn this off, and you certainly don't want to. In most VR videos, the view looks really shaky (less so when sitting down for flight sims, but it's still there). It doesn't look shaky in VR because the images are moving around to account for that. If you then somehow run without ASW, those vibrations will start to feel present in VR, and will quickly cause many people to get motion sick. Every time you move your head, the image will "stick" for a moment before moving, and it looks horrible. ASW (asynchronous spacewarp) is about capturing movement during these missed frames. Rather than displaying the previous frame as rendered by the game, it will look at the last several frames and guess where the objects are going. If for the last three frames a tree has been moving to the right by around 10 pixels, ASW will move that tree 10 pixels forwards in the generated frame (it does this using the MP4 compression hardware on your GPU, which does something similar to reduce the filesize of videos). This is of course not perfect, and some people strongly dislike the artefacts and thus turn it off. > Definitely agree about not ready for prime time! Have you seen the Oculus Quest? It's probably not *quite* there, but it's closer than any headset before it.
razorbackblood06 I heard a long time ago that Growling Sidewinder is not a very good DCS pilot, is that actually true or was it just some salty bastard?

When i got the F-14, i tried to do the same type of acrobatics as in the F-5, and i flew my plane apart a couple of times until i got used to the limitations of the F-14 lol. I am patiently waiting for an F-4 module....any year now haha. Great video, and it is always awesome to hear what a real life F-18 driver has to say about these DCS modules.
It's good they got games like these so real life hero pilots like lemoine can continue flying
Great Synergy DCS and CW. Never was a saying more true than " one door closes and another big one opens" Good timing with the F16 release upcoming. I am a big fan of both and will enjoy upcoming content with Wags and CW. CW way to go with utilizing your talents and abilities to maximize opportunities, not just with DCS but , AF, Navy, Commercial, Author, Gun and Car Videos. Early on with the DCS F18 videos you could see this marriage on the horizon. Thank you DCS for teaming with CW, having him on board was a brilliant move. This should have a positive impact on subscription numbers !! Do I see a Grim Reapers / CW crossover in the future hmmm
literally the coolest DCS video ive ever seen....and ive seen alot! So informative thank you so much for this man!
Awesome, more of this please C.W.
Glad to see this, love the f5
There is a lot of knowledge you can share with us, especially with the DCS F-16 on its way (unless you wanted to dive into Falcon 4 BMS)
Out of curiosity, what is your joystick and PC setup?
Alienware 15R3 with a 1070 GTX and 32GB RAM. Oculus Rift S. And a Saitek X56 setup with Thrustmaster pedals.
@@CWLemoine wow, it's amazing a real pilot flies dcs world, thanks mover, that's awesome!
Great job! Very good! Thanks
Ilove it when Mover does DCS
Really nice video on the F-5/Mig 28 looking forward to the sessions you are going to do with wags!
wait... what?
what about wags??
(nvm.. watched it till the end)
:))
Such a beautiful plane.
That's a Mig-28 btw... ;)
Those graphics look awesome!!
So this video helped me land this beast of a jet. Was having problems with it in dcs. I am using this jet to practice bfm in before moving to the dcs f-16. It's real cool to be able to sim fly aircraft I'll never get to step into. Medical issues held me back though I did get to fly r66 helicopters in branson, mo for a charter service.
Nice!
@@AdmiralQuality Using the mirror shouldn't hurt performance - it's just displaying the undistorted images it's already rendered.
Here's how rendering a frame on the Rift works:
* The game asks the Oculus runtime how large the undistorted screen size is (due to the geometry of the lenses, the game has to render an image larger than the actual screen resolution. users can also increase this value in a process called 'supersampling')
* The game draws the image at that resolution
* The game sends the image to the Oculus runtime
* The Oculus runtime applies ATW, ASW/ASW2 and PTW.
> I assume anyway, I don't think VR is quite ready for prime-time yet
For simulator enthusiasts, it absolutely is IMO. I can't imagine dogfighting in DCS without VR - I'd compare it to the difference between flying with a PS4 controller and a proper joystick.
The Rift S is relatively cheap (for headsets at least), is very easy to set up and use, and has good quality optics.
> and even when it is, I'm not sure how I'll keep from knocking my beer off my desk. ;)
You can place it a bit further away, and double-tap a button on the Rift S's controller to go into 'passthough+' mode, where you can see your surroundings without taking the headset off.

> I thought everyone recommends not using ASW because it's a post processing pan/tilt effect meant to mitigate unsatisfactory frame rates and doesn't work well with DCS.
What a great video! Flying one of my favorite planes in DCS!
Glad you're doing more in DCS. Great stuff. Thanks for making the video.
Really enjoyed watching the vid...looking forward to the next batch on the F5!
awesome video as allways! Love to get a bit of insight into the real world procedures. Would love to see you take on the F 14 Module in DCS.
Waiting for the video titled "Fighter pilot vs Growling Sidewinder dogfight". Get on that colab C.W. Lemoine..
razorbackblood06 I heard a long time ago that Growling Sidewinder is not a very good DCS pilot, is that actually true or was it just some salty bastard?
Probably got shot out of the air haha
do more of these!
FULLY enjoyed it :))
Great vid. Thank You. It would be interesting to see you FAM in other plane(s) (i.e. F15, Mig29, A10 or older jets like the F14, F86). It would be interesting to hear you compare and contrast.
great idea!
0:41 - A dream come true!!!
Mover on his own DCS setup... Nerdgasm!
I love DCS, I've been flying the Hornet in it for a few months now, haven't braved a PvP server yet but it's a lot of fun! Great video!
Nice to see you back in DCS .. hope for more :-)
Thanks Mover.. Really enjoyed this one...
Thank you so much for the video, I hope that this is not the last. Eagle Dynamics has announced the DCS F-16C to be released in the fall of 2019.
Loved it Mover! Keep them coming!
Despite not being a tutorial, I learned a lot. Just the seat adjustment tip alone was helpful. Do you feel that the nose wheel steering sensitivity is accurate? Thanks C.W. and I'm looking forward to more videos and more of your books.
Kevin Drummond I’ve been wondering about the NWS too, hopefully C.W. can comment on it. It feels like the NWS on the hornet when you engage HI, like on the carrier. Maybe I just need to adjust the curves on the F5 but they are definitely super sensitive, I’ve had many a fatal T/O and landing attempts due to that 🤷🏻♂️
I was referring to just taxing around.
Thanks “Mover” enjoying the DCS with you!
Great stuff!!!! Thanks Mover, keep it up!
My dad's been some seat time as a second on board the Talon oh, it's amazing to see how many different models at playing with sold as
OMG was not ready for "Virtual Mover", that was hilarious 😂 It is good to know how a real pilot approaches familiarisation with a new aircraft. The F-5 is a lot more manoeuvrable at low speed, than I would have thought. It's entertaining to read what peoples guesses are for your next charity flight! F-16, F-14, A-10! ... 737 Jeff-cough-Favignano-cough-cough
I reached out to Jeff on multiple platforms and received no reply. Unfortunately I don’t think he will be participating.
Your landing is awesome, Sir.
Amazing video Mover! Keep them coming!
Learned several things from this video thanks mover!
Mate, you are a true legend!!
Love the video man, it's cool to hear you talk through everything even if it's just a "fam" flight.
Great vid.....Cool you did it...I love DCS....
cool stuff....and i also notice that the sukhoi you use in Fini Flight front cover is the MKM version....export for malaysia.....because i always saw that picture
Loved the video. It's fun to get in the cockpit with you. I would enjoy some more!
Great stuff sir. Love it.
That was awesome! Can't wait for the next video :D
I seriously adore the F-5 in DCS and it's pretty much the main aircraft I fly. It's quite interesting to see how you're flying it since I tend to go a bit faster in most places then you were. Course I'm also normally on a pvp server and am trying to keep my energy maxed out in case something goes wrong.
I'm glad to see you finally closed the canopy.
Unless it’s cold out, most don’t close it until taking the runway.
I guess if you need to get out in a hurry, it’s nice to have the canopy open.
It’s just too hot. The AC doesn’t work at low power settings.
I see them flying over Sacramento Ca probably out of Beale AFB
Awesome video Mover. Would love to see something similar in the f16 when that module releases!
Just found your channel ! I'm not a pilot, but was a F-15 Crew Chief in Iceland. I might give this game a try.
Great video, looking forward to more dcs stuff from you site, :-)
Honestly though this has to be hands down 1 of the best jobs on the planet
Had this idea for a couple years; large, 6-axis robot with a flight sim chair strapped to it and VR goggles. Not sure why this hasn't been done, but I've seen Carney rides use these robots. You could pull hard Gs for a realistic experience without needing to fly $100,000+/hr Red Air vs Blue training ops. My nephew-in-law is a hornet electronic tech. Go NAVY! ;)
That was kool. Really kool. Thank you.
I really liked the rapid fire matter of fact pace of the video.
Very cool flight and it cool to see you fly. However I will diffidently watch the series with you and WAGS...
Im glad mover got a system and DCS. such cool technology.
