- Pool tables can be covered in a huge range of different cloths in not only their colour, but also how they play. Cloths can ranging from English Hainsworth cloths, Strachan cloths all the way to American cloths like Elite Pro, but what should you go for?
English and American pool cloths can play quite differently, so give it some consideration before you commit to any one cloth.

Great video. Very informative
Wow,informative video...Yea,I heard the commentators talk about the cloth during a tournament match...Stating that American tables use directionless cloth...Which in my mind seems superior to English cloth...So it begs the question...Why don't they use directionless cloth on English tables...Wouldn't it benefit snooker players...Just curious...
Would you say the premium Brunswick cloth plays like the simonis 860 from diamond? I love how a diamond table rolls and I didn’t know if the brunswick cloth would be the same.
I am English but in North America buying a pool table. With the fast American cloth is there less control over the cue ball?
also, how long is Hainesworth smart cloth likely to last (on average)?
Just bought some speed cloth for a pool table. It has a smooth side where you can see the stitching, the reverse side is slightly fuzzy, like a felt. Which way is up? I'm confused?
It's a good question! It's the slightly fuzzy side, not the one where you can clearly see the weave. 👍🏽
@@HomeLeisureDirect Hiya, thanks. I asked someone else the same question and they gave me the opposite answer. I've bought Strachan Superpro American pool fabric and it has that stamped on the fuzzy side. Just want to double check. We're all arguing here and the stapler is out...
@@psisky OMG, pressure! I'll message the sales director at Strachan for you and let you know what he says. 👍🏼
@@AndysTravels QUICK, lol, thanks
p.s. it's a wee english table
More interested in the play, rather than the color...
Are both sides of the cloth identical ? When your cloth gets dirty, can you flip the cloth ?
No they are different. You couldn't play properly on the other side due to the weave. Well... you could try but it wouldn't be very good. Also the cloth is glued to the table, so once removed it can't be re-used again unfortunately.
@@HomeLeisureDirect Thanks. My cloth wasn't glued, only stapled. I looked at my cloth with a magnifying glass and both sides seem the same. It doesn't seem to have a directional nap. It's sort of a very short fuzz. Almost like a flannel blanket, but very tight weave and no nap. I found on a forum that someone did flip their cloth, and he was happy with the results. Like you said, I could try I guess. I'll update soon to let you know. I know not all cloths are the same, so it may not be a good idea on a different cloth ?
Update. So I did flip the cloth and it plays fine. There is no weave on this cloth, well none that I notice anyway.
@@truhunk1 glad you gave an update. Thx for letting me know.
I'm looking for a Simonis black cloth for my pool table. Other than the fact that dust is more apparent on a black cloth, what are the other downsides for choosing black?
Hi Mario, One possible drawback to black cloth is that you do specifically need black coloured chalk to apply to your cues to prevent cue marks from showing up on it. This is something that happens to all cloth colours, but it shows up particularly clearly on black cloth.
Would you say worsted cloth eney good for home table
Ultimately, it depends on the kind of game you're looking for. Worsted cloth is typically used on American style pool tables and definitely plays a lot faster than most. You can still apply a worsted cloth on an English pool table though if you're looking for more speed in your game.
@@HomeLeisureDirect thanks for reply it helps me out
What’s the best cloth for English pool?
Strachen
Is mali cloth good?
We've not had any kind of experience with clothing tables in Mali cloth, so unfortunately we can't comment on how it performs.
Which cloth plays fast down the table and slow up the table, this video explains nothing in the differences on how they play.
English cloth will play in a manner similar to how you've described due to the nap, acting a little like velvet to the touch.
Yeah, it's all about the colour.. gotta match the sofa.. oh dear
isn't it "strachan" though?
It's a matter of preference really. Strachan is the official given name for the cloth, but will still be recognised by it's abbreviated name 'Straun'.
I probably cant afford it if I ask how much this is gonna cost. lol
$1,000-$20,000
@@Diego-bl1pp that's almost as wide a range as my standards are for women
He's touching cloth... typical Englishman lol

3:38 "The American pool tables that we sell are made from all around the world..." --uhmm....
American Pool referring to the style of table, not the country of origin. :)
Lost me at all the color talk. This guy has a plethora of doublespeak
