Bishop Walter Hawkins - Part 2 - LAST PUBLIC PERFORMANCE - "Marvelous"

- *Rest In Peace, Bishop Walter Hawkins* Bishop Walter Hawkins ministers with "Marvelous," one of his best-known songs, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC on April 24, 2010. This concert was a part of the "Joyful Sounds: Gospel Across America" celebration hosted by the Kennedy Center and organized by Rev. Nolan Williams.
Bishop Hawkins is backed by one of his best friends, Richard Smallwood. He opens up the selection with a personal testimony about how he'd been battling Pancreatic Cancer for the past 2 years, and how his love for God never wavered.
The second half of the concert was devoted solely to the music ministry of Bishop Hawkins. The National Symphony Orchestra and choir are conducted by Stanley Thurston.
Bishop Hawkins passed away on the evening of July 11, 2010, and THIS video was from his last public performance. This is truly HISTORY!

All I can say is that I wept when I saw this the other day. I watched it with my wife and we both wept. For Walter to give his all one last time in the condition he was in was a great testament to the power of God working in his life. God has truly blessed us through the life of Bishop Walter Hawkins. Thank you so much for this post, and may God bless you.
This moves me to tears. His body may have been failing but his spirit and voice was so full of strength and conviction! His music will live on thru the generations.

In the midst of his pain, he still praise"God". Oh! How "Marvelous". He believed and lived every word he said as he sung this song.
A true worshipper and lover of God. The songs this man wrote I pray will continue to illuminate the world. God Bless. RIP Bishop Hawkins!
If you would close your eyes you would hear a sound from a man who sound like it was his first song ever recored sick and all but God is soooooooooooo good I thank you Mr. Hawkins for your gift and that you left us with songs that we may hear from you time and time again. REST IN PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
This is one of the most powerful testimonies thru song that I have every witnessed. God be the glory.
He's just another reason I'm soooo looking forward to heaven. I'm auditioning for the choir as soon as I finish shouting and laying down my heavy burdens!
I am 29years and I can see how much shoes we have to fill to continue the work of God like these men in music, arts, science - from sunday to saturday.
It is marvelous how the Holy Spirit gave Bishop Hawkins supernatural energy to give God praise, glory and honor. What a ministry! Bishop Walter Hawkins is already immortal through his music and the inspiration that it continues to give millions around the world.
Walter Hawkins has to be the greatest gospel singer of all time.I Love You Lord and I'm Goin Away are my favorite songs that he had written
he has run the race and finished his course - what a way to go - under the anointing, he really touched my heart. I have been listening to him since the 80's. Just beautiful
I cried watching this too because u can tell he is sick but he still sang the lord's praises I am young but I love Walter Hawkins music

My God.... I was in tears watching this. What a powerful testimony to the grace and power of God. Bishop Hawkins shall always be a mighty presence in Gospel music. I am so grateful for the life, music, melody and ministry of Bishop Hawkins.
A true GIANT in the Faith. You fought a good fight, You kept the Faith. Your Life will live on through your Songs. You held on in the midst of pain, affliction, truly i know you have gone up yonder to be with the LORD. Peace be with your Family.

The chain of pain is now broken that had him bound and he is forever in our hearts and minds. To all who loved him so, weeping may endure for the nite, but JOY COMETH! His precious life was only a loan and the Owner has received him unto Himself. Celebrate his life and know now he is painlessly in the future!

Thank you for posting!!! This video makes me cry. Walter Hawkins' music was a part of my upbringing and it hurts that he's gone but I'm glad he was on a mission for the Lord and followed his calling. Take your rest, Bishop. We love you!

Thank you for posting this again. There is nothing in this video but the pure fulfillment of God's Word. 2 Cor. 12:9 says "..my strength is made perfect in weakness." The Power of God is so apparent in this "Last" public ministry of song and the Glory of God was in that place and with us a we watch this.

Thank you for posting this video. It's a beautiful tribute to a dynamic human being. We had the pleasure of meeting Bishop Hawkins many years ago. He was a wonderful Christian and a loving human being. My family grew up listening to this wonderful man of God. The world has truly lost a giant. Someday we'll meet again Bishop. Rest in Peace. I love you.

Thank you sir for giving voice and saying what we who were not would have liked to have said with you. He will always be remembered for his dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his excellence, his gifts, and his love for everyone. I am even more encouraged now than ever by his example and courage. He truly used what God gave him.
This is incredible, I first met him in Monterey in 1966 I was 19 then and he was 17, Bishop Reems was holding a revival and he came along to accompany her on the organ...never knew that this man would one day become a household name among the evangelicals.....
I still can't come to terms of believing that this precious jewel is no longer with us. I've never been in shock like this since the death of my own sister. I'm nobody special. Just a fan of The whole Hawkins legacy. I'm struggling. God be with all of us right now. especially the Hawkins Family and Love Center Church.

I Love Bishop Hawkins songs. There was a long time that I didn't hear from any of the Gospel greats. But Those that passed and went on with Christ. Will be remembered in there songs every time we hear them. God gave us great song writers and singers. Bishop Hawkins is in my top 5. Along side the wonder twins Rev. James Moore and Frank Williams, Rev. Timothy Wright and Bishop Winans.. enough said

I taped the "Marvelous" video from Gospel Videos on cable a few years ago. They played it almost every other show and I know I must have at least 4 VHS tapes with Bishop Hawkins singing this with the Love Center Choir. I made sure I kept all of them too-and I watched that video every week. A few years ago I made a mistake and bought "The Mississippi Mass Choir" DVD and decided to keep it. When I pslayed it, I noticed Bishop Hawkins singing on a few of the selections....Yes, I jumped for joy

I love and miss bishop hawkins...i remember watching him as a lil girl on the malaco tapes with his song thank you lord and rev moore coming in along with frank williams! THE GREATS OF ALL TIME! no matter how many times i listen to those songs along with marvelous I CAN FEEL THE ANNOINTING COMING FROM IT. SUCH A SINCERE HEART! SPIRIT AND TRUTH! GOD BLESS YOU!

@PrazHymn83 -- I love him and will miss him so much- for peope who grew his music like me and my family it really is like is like a family member/ good friend passing. He leaves such a powerful example. He is faithful and praising to his very last breath-the Spirit of the Lord was truly on him. I thank God for his peace and freedom; some day we will all meet again as Bishop wrote !!! He inspires me in this moment to seek the Kingdom first

@Tiyenuri Unfortunately, there is no DVD for this performance. This was one of the closing events for the week-long celebration of Gospel music. It was called "Joyful Sounds: Gospel Across America." The entire week was dynamic!! I'm proud to say that it was all organized by my friend, Rev. Nolan Williams.
I miss you Bishop!! I will miss our talks and the time spent with you, What you have taught me, I will not let be in vain. Thank you for being such a profound teacher of the Word. It is still hard to believe that when I come home I won't be greeted by your smile and that timeless question "Which one are you?" I know my brother (twin) feels the same. PrazHymn83 - Thank you so much for posting this. I remember this in DC, but was unable to attend. I didn't know that he was that ill. But I know that he is not suffering anymore and that he is resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Now I can listen to "I'm Going Away" and know that he is with our Lord. Thank you Bishop Hawkins for all of the wonderful, anointed music you have left us. You will never be forgotten as long as there is gospel music. RIP!!
What can I say but "Thank you Lord"! I have always Bishop Walter Hawkins at a little girl. I remember when the Love fellowship choir sung a song along time ago. I want be satisfied until I see my Jesus breaking through the clouds. Lord I want be satisfied until I see my Jesus. I am so grateful to have the time of listening to his music and the words that was spoken from God to him in song and this song right here My God, Marvelous even right now is speaking to my spirit and I know that he is with the Lord and all is well with my soul. Thanks for sharing. I grew up on the Hawkins. R.I.P to the Bishop. I sung in choirs that Stanley Thurston has conducted. It is great to see he is still making an impact in Choral music. I would've loved to have sung in this choir.
