- *Rest In Peace, Bishop Walter Hawkins* Bishop Walter Hawkins ministers with "Marvelous," one of his best-known songs, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC on April 24, 2010. This concert was a part of the "Joyful Sounds: Gospel Across America" celebration hosted by the Kennedy Center and organized by Rev. Nolan Williams.
Bishop Hawkins is backed by one of his best friends, Richard Smallwood. He opens up the selection with a personal testimony about how he'd been battling Pancreatic Cancer for the past 2 years, and how his love for God never wavered.
The second half of the concert was devoted solely to the music ministry of Bishop Hawkins. The National Symphony Orchestra and choir are conducted by Stanley Thurston.
Bishop Hawkins passed away on the evening of July 11, 2010, and THIS video was from his last public performance. This is truly HISTORY!

Out of all the songs Bishop Hawkins has song this one he chose to sing is my husband's favorite one ( Marvelous ) As always he had tears falling from his eyes; although, my husband is not converted at this time, but I'm praying for him to be. The Bishop song with much anointing with the God given strength he had before hand and toward the end. He will be deeply missed. REST IN PEACE great man of God, for truly we consider you a champion for the Lord. Glory be to the most high God of all creation
his health may have declined but his anointing, gift, talent, and skill seem to have just been magnified.

Bishop Hawkins is missed already. This song is a masterpiece and no doubt was given to him by God. God called one of the greatest of the greats home. I know he's at the feet of Jesus.
GOD....he still had that voice even when he was so fraile....he could sing with a passion that only a love for Christ can bring!! I weep that I never had the pleasure of meeting this awesome man.
Over the course of these 10 years, so much good came out of so much bad. I couldn't imagine a badly broken ankle that ended my job, put my household in a financial crisis, caused me all types of unspeakable physical pain & multiple surgeries. How could this be as it should be. But, time HAS revealed that truly ALL things work together. Thank you BISHOP for receiving the WORDS of the LORD and sharing them with me for my PEACE. Thank you for using all of your gifts for HIS PURPOSE. THANK YOU!
The National Symphony Orchestra are one of the best orchestras in the universe and Bishop Walter Hawkins is the best!

Well, this one made me a little teary-eyed, but I was so encouraged because Bishop Hawkins was still giving GOD praise for life, in spite of all he had been through. What a powerful testimony and what an anointed man of GOD!!! Thank you so much for posting this clip!
Thank you for posting. Walter Hawkins was a musical genius.Yet, he used it to reach broken hearts. I am sadden to hear of his passing. Walter Hawkins' music revealed an UNCONDITIONAL LOVE which he shared with MANKIND. His music comforted, reassured and lifted my heart. Thank God his music will live for generations. Thank you to his family for sharing Walter Hawkins with the world. May God comfort you through this time.

. My father was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. 20yrs ago, when it was diagnosed it was in stage 4, he's alive today, he's outlived all of his friends and family members that had the same disease. God is able. Deacon Hosea Robinson lives!!!!!!!! Will pray for you iwannapreach.

So glad to view this and see/hear his faith. A man that kept his faith in his Maker until the finish. Yes, it is how we finish the race. As painful as it is to me now, Bishop Walter Hawkings has spanned many generation with his "Marvelous" gift. And, God it is well with my soul, another angel to join the band in the heavenly choir.

I love his music so much and every time I see a video or play some of his songs, my spirit is filled with prays...This song really means a lot 2 me because when I was prego with my daughter, the doctor's told me that she wasn't going to make it but I told the doctor's God has my life and my daughter's life in his hands and he can do all things...I put my faith in the Lord...and she is 9 years old now...living....tell me my God can't! He Can!!! This song played while I gave birth to her

I see this Bishop has affected all of us in the same way....I sit here at work and watch this video over and over again and cry like he was my bestest friend. Bishop Hawkins was truly a heaven sent.
Such an inspiration of how to worship during the storm. What a wonderful time Heaven is having with Bishop Hawkins and others who have gone on to be with Jesus. When we all get to Heaven what a time it will be. I grew up singing songs from the Hawkins family. I will never forget the joy we had in praising God with such anointed lyrics and music. What an amazing arrangement!! I love and will miss my Bishop.
Then, I destroyed my ankle. Hospitalized, not allowed to travel, not able to drive or do anything, much, for myself. My mom came to Cali to assist my return to the east coast. The last and one of the only going out requests that she honored was to take me to church before we left. Bishop prayed for me. But, it is the prayer that still stands out in my mind. He prayed that I have a PEACE that all things were just as they should be according to the WILL of GOD. How peculiar, I remember thinking.
I thank God for the life of Bishop Walter Hawkins! His recordings have sung me through alot of things and situations on the other side BUT now I can give God the glory for 20 years and counting - on this side!
Father I pray that You would comfort and console the Hawkins family during this bitter-sweet time; in Jesus Name, AMEN!

In memory of my west coast Bishop, to his family, his spiritual family, the ministerial staff, and beloved friends. God bless you Bishop. ibroke my ankle 10 years ago in San Fran while working out there. i had found and attended Bishop's services - each Saturday night, I'd rent a car to go to church on Sunday and immediately return the car afterwards. I'm sure my client didn't know what to make of THAT business expense. But, hey, my God comes first and all other things fall in behind HIM!

Simply "Marvellous", as I sit here with tears streaming down my face. My previous choir director formed a singing group with us, the "Gospelaires" back in the 80's, and we sang I'm sure every song that Walter Hawkins wrote. My heart ached when he made his transition.
Never knew this man personally, never saw him in concert, never saw him in person, but I have loved him since I was in 8th grade singing "Be Grateful" in the Merrill Avenue Baptist Youth Church choir. And I miss him!
We so miss the life and anointing of Walter Hawkins. He was anointed to the very end.

What a soldier, what a performance! I absolutely love Walter Hawkins and the Love Center Choir. My favorite song is I'm Goin' Away but there are so many Masterpieces; Change, Thank You Lord, Be Grateful, The Just Shall Live By Faith, Follow Me, Going Up Yonder and on and on. Love Alive I, II, and III ministered to me 30 years ago and to this very day those songs are my favorites! St. Louis is thanking God for the blessings that you have rendered by ministering in song. Knowing how sick Bishop Hawkins was ill , and still was able to perform at that excellent level he is known for, makes tears come to my eyes and soul, for I know GOD annointing this man for the work he has done. I know he is at the foot of our LORD GOD and Savoir worshiping and, we hope, helping new souls come to this world with the same great anointing for music he had. He will be very much missed. I am so very thankful to had have the God given opportunity to actually meet and talk to this phenominal vessel of God. I along with some of my choir members have opened up for him in Detroit a few times, in addition to backing him up in concert in Detroit and even having the chance to sing Marvelous with him. There will never be another Walter Hawkins, he was one of a kind! Thank you Lord for blessing me!

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints Ps. 116:15 Jesus is the resurrection and the life and he that believeth in him though he were dead, yet shall he live. So let not your heart be troubled. "Marvelous" was one of my most favorite songs,for it always spoke to my heart and ministerd to me. R.I.P.
