Very much a predecessor to Dragnet, Jack Webb is in this, although you might not recognize him because he smiles a lot. They even use the phrase in the opening 'The names have been changed to protect the innocent". Regardless, it's a really good Film Noir movie.
I love to hear that! So glad you enjoyed it! You know the main reason I subscribe to cable at all is TCM and Noir Alley. BTW I'm a huge fan of Richard Basehart. A very underrated actor IMHO. Plus he was lucky enough to be married to Valentina Cortese! I fell for her when I first saw the terrific noir "Thieves' Highway (1949)". You might want to check out Eddie's intro mirrored on this channel. He said it was the movie that first turned him on to film noir.
@@lonewolf604 Wish I knew. Anyone? I can tell you that The Set Up (1949) is in there, Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), and Raw Deal (1948). I don't know which films go with these clips: (1) woman in window (3) man in hat behind door (5) masks and fedoras [had thought either Criss Cross (1949) or The League of Gentlemen (1960), but no].
This was basically the Dragnet Pilot film. I also agree with the John Alton praise. He was the Rembrandt of Noir DPs.
No he wasn't.
Another good film here. I love Noir Alley. Muller offers so much knowledge about this genre.
No he doesn't.
@@scarygary-qq1pjAnd you do?
Watched and loved this movie, now watching more film noir films
No you're not.

Just watched this movie for the first time the other night. I thought it was swell.

I did the same time you did, absolutely loved it
@@NoirFan77 hi, what are the movies in the intro montage?

Agreed about Basehart. Criminally underrated and one of my personal faves.
