I also recognize this cave. Nice one along the trail, maybe ten minutes from the parking lot.

@natewindham5331 Thanks for the comment! Yes, this mine was pretty easy to reach. I believe this was an old lead prospect.

I visited the Sandias in the 80's. Albequerque, I liked it there, theres a lot to see. I went in the dead of winter. There was snow. Pina nuts are good.

@dee19 I have been living in Albuquerque for just over a year and love it here! I feel like we are very lucky to have the Sandias in our backyard. Oh yes, pinon are extremely tasty and buttery! Thank you for watching and for the great comment!

Like a number of other prospects in the Sandias, some various mineralization takes place in the contact zone between igneous (granite) and sedimentary (limestone) rock. Lead (galena) deposits are often associated with silver. When they saw some fluorite and galena they most likely hoped to find some silver or a larger deposit of lead. Like many prospect tailings piles in NM it is filled with leverite.......leave it right where you found it. Some of the old prospects were used to sell "blue sky stock" to raise money......stock as valuable as the blue sky above. Caveat emptor.

@frankfritzges7819 Thanks for the comment and for the information. Those are some interesting tidbits! I hadn't heard the term leverite in a long time. Haha. Thanks again for the back story. I definitely appreciate it!

The main shaft looks to go down and is filled in...

This particular mine was rather small. That's always a possibility. Look at my other video of the collapsed mine entrance. There was a mostly filled in adit as well as tailings. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

Some years back (40) a buddy and I went down a mine out by Golden. The shaft was supported by beam supports as we went down, way way down!! we figured a 1/4 mile. We came to a huge room that had bunks carved into the side walls, there was also a hole in the middle of the room with a wooden ladder fastened to the inside of the hole. The hole was marked 160', my buddy climbed into the well and started going down, as he went down I was holding the flashlight, eventually I could not see his glowing eyes or hear his voice, after awhile I was starting to wonder if he was ever going to come back. What seemed like an eternity his pink eyes finally started to shine up at me, when he climbed out of the well he was saying that one of the steps broke off the wall and he heard it splash into some water and thats when he decided to start back up. Anyway don't do that....................but keep on exploring, there is some cool stuff here in NM!

@johnpearce7835 Thanks for the great comment! I bet that must have been extremely exciting to find and explore! I would've been having a fangirl moment to come across something like that! Haha. I bet you were nervous waiting for your buddy! We haven't made it out to Golden just yet. Is there a lot of mines in that area? We just stumbled across a mine with three tunnels yesterday. After I edit I'll post tomorrow! Thanks for watching!

Have looked at this one myself. My guess is, they were mining false hopes.

@dogofthedesert6642 It's more of a foxhole than anything. I believe this is an old lead and fluorite prospect. Right near this one, there's a collapsed mine entrance with a tailings pile. As to your comment about false hopes: I think you're spot on.
