  • For this abandoned mine explore, we visit a huge Nevada tungsten mine that has several levels. After exploring the main haulage level, we descend the man-way ladders of the main shaft. On each of the levels, we find cool artifacts and interesting mine workings.
On the upper main haulage level, we find a break room with several bottles, papers, and magazines. There are also numerous ore chutes on this level with many stopes above. There are also a couple of shorter shafts leading to sub levels and several branching drifts. On the lower levels we find a few wooden dynamite boxes, four different brands of tobacco tins, old boxes of batteries, a large water or coffee pitcher, shovels, wood barrel, old newspapers and much more. We would love to hear from you, so please leave a comment for us.
We hope you enjoy the video.
Note: This is a re-edit of a previously released two part video.

This mine was like a time capsule. So pristine you almost expect the miners to show up in the morning. Congratulations on finding yet another spectacular mine for us to tour with you. Julie's fierce determination for exploration defies logic. Seriously she is being dive bombed by a bevy of boisterous Bats but she will not be denied and with her steely resolve continues to explore the mine.
Tom as usual is in ladder heaven and adjusting one for Julie put a wonderful smile of satisfaction on his face. The layout of the mine was great with the timber work well above par and quite interesting especially where the shafts met the intersections of the drifts. Don't know where you find all these fantastic mines to explore but you guys are definitely on a roll. Thanks for the ride, Rik

Awesome reprise of this mine exploration 👍🏻
Those tobacco tins were fun to look up. Early 1900s. I might have seen a partial dynamite stick when you first lifted the box they're in? All tan with dust, cylinder. Just worried a bit.
And that last look down too, what a chasm that was!
It's incredible how large the waste pile is. That last stope into massive depths unknown made it clear all those ore chutes served massive upper workings.
A very nice video, thank you Tom and Julie. I really appreciate it.

What I wouldn't give to be out that way again. I miss the days when I could go out exploring the surrounding foothills and valleys to see what was around the next corner. That was my weekends to get out and go camping and hiking.

Have you ever explored parts of eastern Oregon? One of the mining areas ive always wanted to see is the cornucopia district. That would be cool to see!

We really haven't done much exploring in Oregon. The mines there are flooded much of the time. There is a guy from Baker City that does explore that area. His RUclips channel is 'Ham Homestead'. Thanks for commenting, Pete!😊

I was just down there in February it was still covered in snow. We check out a couple back down the canyon. One the entrance was caved and the other only went back 500ft. There are a couple more over the top of the hill i would like to check out when the snow melts. Thanks again for making these videos.

Hi Tom and Julie, this was a great undisturbed mine with a lot of history left behind! From the beginning of this video, I had no clue what was in store to us viewers , that’s why I keep a close eye on what you find, very interesting work area and nice dated newspaper articles to place periods of miners working. Especially all the tins, this was a well worked mine. How deep was this mine to your knowledge? I could see why you Julie had to rest after all the climbing, and Tom you went that next level , nice finds! Yes , the tailings gave you a clue what was in store, very well preserved mine and contents, excellent job as always! Safe travels and will be thinking of you both in health and safety!

Hi, y’all. Tom & Julie your explores just keep getting better every time out; but this one is really going to be hard to top! The amount and variety of the artifacts you found is really outstanding! At 14:09, I believe it reads Buck 12/12/55. On the last bottom level, I wish there would have been a structure for you to go to the end! Curious what might have been there! Keep Safe & Healthy!!!

Always kind of cool looking up some of the names we see in these mines or even from newspaper clippings from long ago. For instance, the death notice for Emilia Solari Ghisletta leads to the news she was lighting a gas lamp on her ranch when it exploded, causing burns over her body that lead to her death. But you can find her husband and children and their children and it appears the family continues to live in the Reno/Sparks area of Nevada to this day.

So tungsten mining? UV lamp would be great there! Scheelite = blue and Powellite = yellow-green if I remember correctly....

Yes, the scenery in some of theses places is outstanding. I didn't have my UV light with me on this one. I should have because I know there is Scheelite here and that it fluoresces nicely. Thanks for the comment, Steven!

Hi Sean, we don't really worry much about bats, although you can't help being startled by them when you're not expecting a flying mammal near your head. They can carry some viruses that can be spread through their guano. Thanks for the comment!
