Somebody in my area has been reopening gated mines, and quite forcefully. No idea how long it will take Forest Service and BLM to realize they're open again, but I'm just enjoying the exploring opportunities while they last.
The bench in that crosscut looks like a fuse table where they would "set" the time for the charges by stretching out the fuse on the table and cutting the fuse to length so the charges in the blast wall would go off in the right order.
Enjoyed your explore there. I always wondered what the inside of that mine adit looked like. A while back we drove around and up to that one on our way to some other mines to the Southeast, thanks!
At 15 minute mark where we see the tiny dot of light from the entrance reminded me of a tunnel my brother and I was in way back in 1992, we ere in a bout 1oo meters on our way out and I bet we broke the minute mile run. Was in the mine when the landers earthquake hit and 60 meters of the mine caved in, we were covered in dust .
Great you got thru .Good size mine .p.s. Glad we got to see the mystery person behind the camera who takes us on the adventures ⛏️🤔p.s. we will only wonder the secret of getting in 🤫
Just a positive suggestion - try slowing down a lot and then you’ll be able to comment on what you see - the ore shutes, geology, etc. It just seems like one mad rush. All meant as positive suggestions - not criticism.
I think you mean bat-gated. That's the common name for the blocking device. They're used on caves too. I wouldn't climb down any old ladders unless I was on rope and had someone else with me, beware of Murphy's Law.
Enjoyed your video. Never been in a mine, so guess need to go with someone who knows the dose and don't s. Was wondering how to know if the air is safe as it looked like they had air piped in.
They make monitors for air quality that you can clip on or bring with you. In the old days, miners literally used to bring a bird cage with them. I want to say it was either a canary or parakeet, don't remember which. They are super sensitive and would drop dead quickly at a lower parts per million concentration to alert the miners to a hazard far before it would affect the miners. Absolutely, I wouldn't go into a mine alone since you aren't familiar with them. There are holes in the floor that you can fall hundreds of feet through (they're called winzes and are just inclined or vertical shafts or passages between levels in a mine). There are raises in the ceilings that do the same thing, but of course you can't fall through them unless from above. Then there are sometimes old sticks of dynamite, cases/boxes or wooden crates of old dynamite and/or blasting caps just lying around. All of which become dangerously unstable over time. The nitroglycerin can leak out of them and is highly unstable. You could accidentally kick something and make a massive boom happen as if they just blasted in the mine, trapping yourself and/or dying in the explosion or cave-ins. These are the main reasons why they don't want people going into mines. Plus the wooden ladders can rot, the support boards above can rot, etc. There are just so many dangers.
I would guess that you slipped through on the bottom right side at 0:29, which would have been the bottom left on the way in. Looks like a good gap between the end of the bars and the side of the entrance. I thought 14:00 was the shirt and pants of a person at first, but as you walked up it became clearer. lol
Not sure why you do this alone 😮 I'll watch your videos, you're a good tour guide, but my friend you're a fool. One day, the videos could stop. Be careful, be smart and be safe 🙏

It’s the general public, us We the people that own this property. Not government.St. Paul Minnesota.
Cut the gates
good hope they continue to open the gates no government will tell me where and when to go.

@20:48 great risk assessment and decision on those ladders being one out ,hello from Australia opal miner here
I see we use the same technique to breach into these mines , been using that “key” for a couple years

did ya make it out? alive?
I always think about the worst happening in a cave or mine like this.. just one earthquake at the wrong time and .... well, you know ..!
Don’t worry it doesn’t go any where at the bottom. One small side drift and one at the bottom. Both like 40’

@@redeyesmark no its a tire lock on the inside of the gate you have to bring a few different types of wheel locks no big deal.

WOW!! Loved this video!! Love all your videos. :-) Thank you!
Nice. That’s a lot of tunnel
A tunnel goes entirely thru the mountain. An Adit is an entrence to a mine. You're in a haulage adit, not a tunnel.
I’ve said this too …not a a criticism but to correct the terminology 😊
Outstanding video and you were moving fast today.
Myself and My brother been there 1994 looks as I remember it been over every inch of it and many more
Don't you ever worry about getting stuck or trapped down there? What if one of the mines caves in? You'd be screwed.

Nice mine and good video, not the safest thing in the world to do, but....

How about saying something, if you can, about the rocks your walkiing through so fast.
There is a good reason for the bat gates. Really poor form because you are encouraging people to vandalize.

Bat gates protect important roost sites. There are plenty of unprotected mines...thousands.
