It’s really nice to have someone to summarize this lore heavy events, I really enjoyed the lore on the clockie event but was kind of confused about some of the characters and metaphors. My favorite part was seeing how dystopian all of the alternative endings were, just goes to show how unhinged and extreme some of the factions and pathstriders can get

I saw a theory on Twitter by synonyms26 saying that Black Swan might be Razalina, though it was based off of Elio's script/the official 'credits scene' at the end of Penacony with Razalina essentially fucking off to research about the memoria and never coming back. The reasons they give in the tweet/thread are: 1. Razalina was an expert in memoria, and with Black Swan being a Memokeeper, she can change her appearance to whatever she wants 2. Razalina was on the run from her father, Black Swan having a disagreement with the high priest of her home planet before she became a Memokeeper (imo, the weakest piece of evidence but I digress) 3. Razalina is credited as the true founder of Penacony and continued to protect it after death, Black Swan saying she had 'personal business' to attend to on the planet that she hasn't explicitly stated as of now (2.2) 4. The parallels in the fake ending with Black Swan and Boothill joining the Astral Express, which out of everyone we've met on the planet, are definitely a *choice* from Hoyoverse. Boothill obviously being closest resemblence to Tiernan and Black Swan being closest resemblence to Razalina I think it's certainly plausible given how little we know of Black Swan and how vague/potentially exaggerated or altered Razalina's past is, but ig we'll see from Hoyoverse as time goes by and Penacony wraps up

That would be so poetic. All three of the Nameless who helped found Penacony returning in some form to free it from the chains tying it down. Mikhail leaving his legacy for a new generation of Trailblazers, Tiernan’s relic guiding his allies the Galaxy Rangers, and Razalina as a memokeeper directly intervening in the events. It would also tie up the mystery of what happened to her when she entered the Memory Zone
what i love about the paths we get is that the weapons all have meaning like the baseball bat is a curio, the lance is a relic, and the hat is a legacy.

This part of Hanu's adventures made me think that maybe after the explosion Hanunuu sank into a coma? Like his consciousness was somewhere in the memoria sea but his physical body remained in a comatose state
Yep I'm pretty sure he exists in another layer of the dream that was closer to the surface than whatever Mikhail was in at the time. There's also a scene where he observes the determined Clockie from far away after that one. Heavily implied he's not gone, and entirely possible we might catch up with him and meet him ingame (using a tailless Foxian model, most likely?).
I find the inclusion of the "HanuClockie do not seperate, do not reverse" piece of text so genuinely hilarious on a meta level. Because canonically, it's just someone in penacony shipping the characters from the in game cartoon which is a debatably accurate retelling of the actual lore. But then on a meta level. It's someone who is writing the lore recognizing that the in game cartoon would make the relationship between Hanu and Clockie entertaining enough that they were like "yeah, people would ship them, there would be yaoi fanart of them, put a refrence to that in the game".
What people always forget is that mihoyo was made by nerds and yuri/yaoi shippers who like to reference pop culture every 5 seconds. So it's really disingenuous to assume the devs wouldn't include fanfic and shipping culture/terminology in there. Hell, there's this one dev that has Jingyuan x Danheng merch on his desk, and Dawei has been consistently shipping himself with Himeko for years.
lol in shipping terms: * HanuClockie = certain fandoms still adhere to strict shipping naming conventions: the first name in a ship name is always the top, and the second name is the bottom * do not separate = the fan considers this pair to be made for each other and cannot fathom them being shipped with other characters. A popular easily understandable example would be Seele x Bronya. Contrast with the High Cloud Quintet ships. * do not reverse = the fan only likes HanuClockie and not ClockieHanu in terms of shipping dynamic.
Let's not forget Citizen Hanunue's phonograph description. "Dear Mikhail: You provide prose poetry, and I'll provide warfare." A neat reference to Citizen Kane.
Here I thought Mikhail had a thing for Razalina, given the lines of "He couldn't stop thinking about her and wished for her to join the crew", but actually he was charmed by the werewolf. That's a detail I would have never caught by myself. There's a simple, realistic charm to the Watchmaker's story. He wasn't the brightest nor the most selfless, he made many mistakes and caused a lot of trouble, but his heart was dedicated to building a better future. The family wanted happiness and the cowboys wanted freedom; Mikhail was the only one fighting for both without compromise, until his last breath. Despite everything, I believe Penacony was indeed made better by the actions of Mikhail and his companions.
I'm a bit ashame to say that I didn't see that the possibility they share same bed. I just thought "Haha, Mikhail snores in his sleep" because hanu was kept awake by clockie's ticking.

Also, 13:27 made me feel so vindicated because I noticed that the dreamjoy memoir event said that Clockie and Hanu shared a room and I immediately thought ‘does this imply what I think it implies.’ Before this I thought I was going insane
I like that we know definitively that Hanu and Mikhail were totally gay for each other and that Hanunue was the top and Mikhail was the bottom. This is very important information.
I was very delighted by that discovery, too. And I found out about it after I recorded the rest so I was already deep in the Hanunue/Mikhail ship just from working on the timeline 🤭

I saw somewhere and thought a lot about a theory, about history fictionologist, known to us as Gallagher, actually being Hanunue. We see Hanunue as a wolf-like and Hanu as well, even if not as much as illustration of Hanunue. And Gallagher through all of Penacony refers to himself as an old dog, probably even too much times for it to be just a metaphor. So even if persona of Gallagher was made up, real person, the history fictionologist, knew The Watchmaker. I say this because before the endbattle(i think that's when it happens?), he talks with what's left of Mikhail all along in that garden. He talks about hoping to see him in hell and all this. But if they knew each other only as Mikhail and Gallagher, and as much as Clockie and Scammer Cup, this sad heartfelt monologue of Gallagher would really make that much sense, wouldn't it? So the point of theory is that persona of Gallagher was probably a Scammer Cup in fiction, but history fictionologist behind him might've been Hanunue(Hanu). In the end, why Gallagher is the one who orchestrated quest about watchmaker's legacy and not Micah - the successor of title watchmaker, from word of Milhail himself? Why would he trust him with this more? And I know very well that this theory is very flawed, like, how the hell did he survive, but i guess i just love my gays, and a thought of them reuniting in some shape or form.
I haven't considered the idea of Hanunue being the history fictionologist before - he seems way too straight-forward in my head. I lean more towards the idea of the enigmata follower actually being Mikhail (though unintentionally). From the very start, he chooses to lie about the express blowing up in order to manipulate the townsfolk into taking charge of their own lives. He lies repeatedly in order to get the outcome he thinks is the best. I have no proof of this, but I think once he came to the Asdana system, which naturally has traces of the Enigmata inside the memory zone, his inclination towards fiction really started taking shape (literally), especially when the cartoon came into play. Even though it records history, he still wrote it down with lots of variations and different endings and what-ifs, which is very enigmatic of him. I think the enigmata, represented by Gallagher, is drawn to working with him because of this naturally enigmatic trait of his. In saying that, he was officially a Nameless trailblazer, but I consider his 'specialty' to be in the enigmata, same way that Dan Heng's is in the permanence, and Razalina's was in the remembrance.

With Gallagher shown right after that - and Gallagher is a fiction, a meme, created by Watchmaker because of his love to Hanunue, as well as resembling his close friend Tiernan. But that would mean that now both Michail and Gallagher (as well as Tiernan?) are completely gone, which makes my heart hurt. Although actual Hanunue could still be alive in a coma though... coping. 😔

The HI3 canon Yuri was before the censorship laws kicked in. Afterwards, they had to alter and adjust explicit things like the Bronseele kiss which was edited out of the Chinese version but left untouched in the global version. It wasn't only LGBT stuff that was affected - those laws are the reason that some of the genshin females had to get updated outfit models for CN that became optional skins for global version. Acheron PV exists because it wasn't explicitly queer, just very suggestive. Within the context of the game, they can explain it away as the dances at the watchmaker's ball etc. They didn't say they were dancing romantically, and it helps that it ends with a horror sequence. Censorship laws are NOT cope. Hoyoverse has been gradually testing the boundaries of what does and doesn't get past censorship these past few years until we are at the current point where they can have a readable where a nameless female mentions falling in love with a woman she saw. I don't have a clue what technicality they used to get that in, but we take it. Danmei etc is also cracked down on in China, with many webnovels getting taken down or heavily censored. I'm not sure why you would ignore that. I don't know for what purpose you resist the intent behind Mikhail's story, but you're absolutely coping if you think a man who shares a bedroom with another man and says to that same man that "You're brave~" and "Oh you, always so dashing" is heterosexual.
During the main quest, when you seek out Hanu's help alongside Firefly, you enter his office. If you investigate, a text will pop up, mentioning how all the books about Penacony on Hanu's shelf look like they've never been opened even once - all except for one, which indicated repeated reading. That one book ( or series ) was about Clockie's adventures.
I know you're not including the alternate endings, but for the individual scenes within each act, depending on what dice you put in, you can often get 2 to 3 different scenes depending on the die. So theres a version of events that works best for the goals of the movie minigame, and a version of events that doesnt. The differences can vary in how significant they are, but one example is that when the soldiers of the mirror kingdom started falling into the sea, you can get either a scene of the crew of the astral express throwing rocks at them to doom them (the one you get by playing into making the movie more thrilling) or setting differences aside to help them (the one you get by not playing into the minigame mechanics). I'm guessing the truth of the situation lies somewhere between the different possibilities, like sometimes the truth didnt make for a good movie and sometimes it did. Also I suspect that the bombheads are the swarm, since both have a tendency to explode, and the bombheads being drawn to light sources would match well with the swarm being insects, and the sun needing to be "reignited" might actually be a retelling of a situation where the swarm blotted out the sun rather than putting it out, since thats one of the major omens theyre associated with.
I agree, though I chose to focus on the highest scoring story because I found that otherwise, in some places, the events stop making sense. I settled on this because it's both easier to understand and doesn't require more than double the time to discuss. Initially I planned on doing the alternative endings too but it was simply too long and interrupted the flow of the story too much.
One question ... How long Mikhail and Gallagher lived? Because I am confused with the timeline ... the story seems to stars Amber Eras ago (Swarm), but then Mikhail died just few week before the Express arrives ... How many years did he lived (and so wood, Robin and Sunday)?
About 10 Amber Eras sooo 700 to 2500 years. Everyone in Penacony lives longer than their bodies, they just can't wake up properly once their body is dead. Gallagher's age is entirely unknown bc we don't know if Mikhail made him or if he existed as an independent entity before.

Honestly I've only been realizing lately how queercoded star rail is especially when I saw aventurine's design and the meaning behind peacock came to mind and I explored the subject a bit further. Honestly really enjoyed the video you have a great way of making these really big lore drops digestible for your average audience (that Cloclie event as lore heavy as it was was also really boring) and I am definetely looking forward to more videos.Hanunue's and Mikhail's story made me so sad. Honestly I find the Lore behind Penacony far more interesting than the worldbuilding we got during the Quest because I didn't really like Penacony's style at first but learning about its history really made it grow on me. Havent finished the clockie event and this went beyond my expectations for hoyo's usual "sad and gay" lore what the FUCK . My expectations were high but holy HELL. I feel so bad for mikhail man the poor guy can't catch a break 😭

I was not prepared for how utterly, backbreakingly, heartwrenching and soulcrushing that was. Even on top of the Penacony story and Dr. Blues Dreamweaver lore. Holy moly. Gotta love Depressioncony and all its PTSD and grief allegories, with Mikhail's copium cartoons; and them memory zone memes infiltrating good memories because he can't hold back all the repressed guilt, anger, remorse, and heartbreak. And the whole "succumbing to derealization or maladaptive daydreaming," along with the struggle to accept reality, which is literally a vital skill taught in the therapy model I'm in. And Mikhail tried so hard, but it was like a losing war,.. God damn poor guy got Super Double Ultra Rooftop Jinxed by that mourning actor. And boy, I hope that none is this is foreshadowing/warning us of things that will happen in future arcs. Anyhow!!! Thank you for making me feel exceptionally sad and gay for the rest of my week 🥲😭💔💓
Interesting thing-in the Description of Gopher Wood, there are always this tree motive-seedlings, growth, branches etc. Star Rail often connects such symbols to Aeons: if text mentions sons or amber it refers to Qlipoth, sun, fire, light, gold are associated with Nanook, bow and arrow with Lan. And it is Yaoshi the Abundance who is typically associated with plants. So... maybe Gopher Wood was a disepel of Abundance, which is why he was so obsessed with providing people with surface-level pleasure and seeing it as solution to all.
With the presence of a werewolf in the prison that strongly resembles a borisin, it's entirely possible it could be related to wingweavers? Yaoshi is known to first become present when Ena and the Swarm disappeared, so it's possible that some of the angels were converted into wingweavers which then scattered when Muldrassil was destroyed. Not much evidence to support this outside of the tree thing, but it's something to ponder...
Since Mikhail is a man liker, I wonder if it's possible he and Tiernan were romantically involved at some point? I believe Tiernan refers to Mikhail as his "companion" when talking to Acheron, and his delivery is pretty wistful/heartbroken during that whole scene, so that was the subtext I got. Not sure whether other translations shed more light on/debunk it.
I view the relationship between Mikhail, Razalina, and Tiernan as being a parallel of the Trailblazer, March, and Dan Heng. Mikhail and Trailblazer both have the compass thing going on, Razalina and March are both associated with the remembrance, and Tiernan and Dan Heng are both the guard and associated with the hunt. Personally, I only see their relationships as being like BFFs, or even siblings. I think it's very valid for Tiernan to long for a brother, especially considering how many years they were side by side. Of course, that shouldn't stop you from shipping it in fanon though!

First he abandons his lifelong dream of being an adventurer to settle down with his bf and two best friends, only to tragically lose them all in the following decades. Then he had his work and legacy be hijacked and turned into a hypercapitalist hellscaped manned by the Chuch of the Literal God of Fascism. On the bright side, we did manage to uncover his true intentions and pass on his legacy (and sick dance moves) to our favorite trash panda, so thats something 🎩💃🕺🎉

I know you already made a video on the swarm disaster lore but when 2.2 came out sunday and robin’s story seems to be eerily very similar to the choir twins, with one being sacrificed and them hugging and forgetting about their crowns after everything was over. Gopher did also mention that he and robin were twins of order (metamorphical or literally) , one will follow the path until the end, and Gopher does seem to have an ulterior motive behind him grooming Sunday. I’ve seen some theories that Sunday and Robin are the reincarnations of the two princes, and it is one I believe in pretty hard. thoughts? also, there’s crown guy the de-facto protag being a self-annihilator and acheron, the KoB showing up, the swarm being very connected to penacony, ena ofc, the sea of nihility/and or oroboros’s red sea, Qlipoth’s followers imprisoning the choir causing the younger twin to fall and drown into the sea…there being an option to go after the brother…SD is veeeerrry similar to penacony. hoyo i need answers
Yes I think Penacony was very deliberately written to parallel Swarm Disaster, it’s almost 1:1 in some aspects. The reincarnation theory for Sunday and Robin is all but confirmed imo, and it very much tracks that they will both remain story relevant considering that. The Sunday Stellaron Hunter theory only sells it for me further Makes me very confident the next planet is going to be a parallel to Gold and Gears, and so on and so forth with additional SU modes. We have all the teases for Emperor Rupert’s revival with the tomb unsealing + all the Intellitrons in Penacony and hinting towards our next Stoneheart being Pearl, who is implied to be at least somewhat Intellitron. The focus on life and what living really means in Penacony also is a perfect lead-in for those themes to be looked at somewhat differently under the guise of inorganic life
Yeah I mean, I think I mentioned in those videos that it was a precursor to Penacony. I knew the minute that a pair of angelic siblings, one heavily covered in the crucifixion of Jesus imagery, and one of them known for being an exceptional singer, that one of them was getting sacrificed in the ritual. Bonus points that they mentioned the choir in the memoria. I do think there's a very high chance that they are a samsara version of the SU twins. I also don't think the Penacony story is really over. 1. We initially fell asleep in the train but did not wake up there again 2. We were shown another credit roll which only happens for false endings 3. Gopher Wood wasn't appropriately dealt with and it would be quite bizarre to pin everything on Sunday considering we're given the event that explains what Gopher was up to only after the msq... 4. Everything about what happened with Sparkle was suspicious, including the lack of use of her button, the way that Acheron breaking us out of the dream had the same shape as her ultimate ability, and the whole idea of her living life as an actress and having clones. Plus the name of her quest being about fools striking twice LOL (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice..?) 5. Heavy foreshadowing about Hanunue having escaped the dream and returning to save it one day, plus I don't think we had confirmation that those hound statues were actually Gallagher's in the end soooo they might have been Hanunue's all along (he IS the founder of the bloodhound family after all... and he was said to be watching Mikhail inside the dream from far away... suspicious)
Gopher’s convo with Sunday makes me think we will atleast have some endings to tie up to for a penacony continuation / or the epilogue. Sparkle’s bombs are a chekov for the epilogue, Gopher alludes to not being in control of the stellaron, etc. His convo with Sunday just kinda dropped two lore bombs on us about Sunday and Robin and then never resolved it lmao. The two are guaranteed for future story relevancy ( Sunday, atleast ) and are way too connected to the dichotomy of order and harmony as a whole to not have a payoff. I hope we get more choir twins lore when the inevitable xipena SU expansion comes around . ( P.S , the SU usually foreshadows the next region and the main characters to an extent ie Sunday and Robin as the choir twins, Acheron and crown guy, Argenti popping up, Sparkle being behind a major amount of the plot like Aha and their fools. Next region is deffo erudition related as we have the IPC broadcast, Rubert keeps getting brought up, intellitrons in Penacony, Screwy being delayed. We haven’t gotten a harmony path expansion, sunday isn’t released and has too much unfinished business forshadowed… )

I didn't really feel like going through all of the readable chapters and use my brainpower to figure out the metaphors, so this makes things way easier. I bet this video took some effort, it was so entertaining and well-explained. Penacony's history is so complicated, impressive, sad and dystopian...
this is some crazy effort you put into a video. so much info and plotlines and characters i think my head will explode (positively). thank you! now i understand the old penacony lore much better. everything turned out so cruel for Mikhail and the Co, this is absolutely insane. i am amazed with his inner strength and drive to help his brainchild (a whole ass planet) to come to its senses after everything he's been through on a side note, i think that this whole story was made not-so-obviously dark so that the players would think thoroughly about it and be astonished with the scale of the events. this is some impressive writing work done here.

Had a bit of a whiplash when I heard that Mikhail is canonically a furry lover (stan), but the bottoming part had me chuckling, mostly I see him as the shou for Mikhail/Tiernan. 😂 (Also, ship policing in this day and age? Yeah right 😂😂)
I may not be that big of a furry (at most I like some of the human-like monsters, Pokemon and Pals from palworld) but love can take all forms, plus this means that there was a greater than 0% chance that Mikhail knew what it was like to get "knotted"
OMG Thank you SO much for making all the effort of summarising this!! It must have been a huge ton of work! And as a non-hsr-player, this is an awesome story aswell, with characters with so so much depth and it kinda reminds me of a fairytale, reflecting the real world while hiding stuff behind metaphors. The story was super engaging, the ending bittersweet. The author too, was daring to let his beloved characters pass away. I still don't have enough storage to download starrail, but I will definitely be looking forward to lore updates! It's crazy to think that I only landed here bc someone asked me to make Misha fanart!
This might not be true but I think robin and Sunday’s mom may have been sister wildflower or Maeven, as their entire thing was singing to try and calm down both sides kind of like what robin is always trying to do. Both of them sound like robin, and from her teaser and dialogue it’s clear her mom was a big influence on her life

He’s mentioned after everyone Mikhail loves is dead, and I’m thinking he might be a meme of the enigmata made by memoria to reflect mikhails own enigmata-esque traits while also reflecting his memories (ie. those closest to him like tiernen and hanunu.) Something like clockie and Misha, except more self sufficient? I
Your guess is as good as mine lol. The Enigmata seems to naturally exist within the sea (Probably why it's a jellyfish) so I think it was drawn to Mikhail for whatever purpose and Gallagher was manifested. We know what she looks like and she still exists. Sister Wildflower (Asna) should have died after the Stellaron was used, but their mother died during it. It is possible that the cartoon slightly adjusted the order of events, though!

Well, the CN version is the original one so it's the only one really worth holding at any weight. It also confirms renheng were a couple through a pun. The translations into English lose a lot of that sort of thing, which is fascinating because you'd think they'd take advantage of not being so restricted by laws...
@@LalodysLore Quite possible that the localizers simply didn't pick up on it. I've read quite a few times that there are specific phrases with cultural or contextual meaning that tends to regularly get lost in translation. Penacony is supposedly especially egregious in this regard.

Swapping this word for cup is not something done normally and hasn't been corrected despite many reports, especially from people who hate the ship.

Man, wtf is up with the timeline in penacony? How many years has it been between express first arrival and current day How many years did mikhail lived for? If there is one express train, then was akavili alive during mikhail time? if yes then the swarm dissaster is too recent to make sense. If no then that means the express was lost, rediscovered by crew before mikhail boarded and then was lost again before being rediscovered by himiko. When I started Penacony I thought it was thousands of years old and the family took their time to engrave themselves but now im confused, either mikhail & buddies have a long lifespan or time flows differently in penacony,
It's 2400 years since Tiernan defeated the lord ravager. There's also multiple trains, it used to be a 'fleet' according to one of the navigator descriptions.
If you’re confused about NPCs in Penacony that knew Mikhail personally, Micah, one of the orphans he adopted, says in a dialogue after you beat the 2.2 story that his real body died long ago and he’s just part of the dream now.

It’s really nice to have someone to summarize this lore heavy events, I really enjoyed the lore on the clockie event but was kind of confused about some of the characters and metaphors. My favorite part was seeing how dystopian all of the alternative endings were, just goes to show how unhinged and extreme some of the factions and pathstriders can get

I saw a theory on Twitter by synonyms26 saying that Black Swan might be Razalina, though it was based off of Elio's script/the official 'credits scene' at the end of Penacony with Razalina essentially fucking off to research about the memoria and never coming back. The reasons they give in the tweet/thread are:
1. Razalina was an expert in memoria, and with Black Swan being a Memokeeper, she can change her appearance to whatever she wants
2. Razalina was on the run from her father, Black Swan having a disagreement with the high priest of her home planet before she became a Memokeeper (imo, the weakest piece of evidence but I digress)
3. Razalina is credited as the true founder of Penacony and continued to protect it after death, Black Swan saying she had 'personal business' to attend to on the planet that she hasn't explicitly stated as of now (2.2)
4. The parallels in the fake ending with Black Swan and Boothill joining the Astral Express, which out of everyone we've met on the planet, are definitely a *choice* from Hoyoverse. Boothill obviously being closest resemblence to Tiernan and Black Swan being closest resemblence to Razalina
I think it's certainly plausible given how little we know of Black Swan and how vague/potentially exaggerated or altered Razalina's past is, but ig we'll see from Hoyoverse as time goes by and Penacony wraps up

This part of Hanu's adventures made me think that maybe after the explosion Hanunuu sank into a coma? Like his consciousness was somewhere in the memoria sea but his physical body remained in a comatose state
Yep I'm pretty sure he exists in another layer of the dream that was closer to the surface than whatever Mikhail was in at the time. There's also a scene where he observes the determined Clockie from far away after that one. Heavily implied he's not gone, and entirely possible we might catch up with him and meet him ingame (using a tailless Foxian model, most likely?).

I find the inclusion of the "HanuClockie do not seperate, do not reverse" piece of text so genuinely hilarious on a meta level.
Because canonically, it's just someone in penacony shipping the characters from the in game cartoon which is a debatably accurate retelling of the actual lore.
But then on a meta level. It's someone who is writing the lore recognizing that the in game cartoon would make the relationship between Hanu and Clockie entertaining enough that they were like "yeah, people would ship them, there would be yaoi fanart of them, put a refrence to that in the game".
It gets even better when you realise it's a talking piece of cheese that says it.
What people always forget is that mihoyo was made by nerds and yuri/yaoi shippers who like to reference pop culture every 5 seconds. So it's really disingenuous to assume the devs wouldn't include fanfic and shipping culture/terminology in there. Hell, there's this one dev that has Jingyuan x Danheng merch on his desk, and Dawei has been consistently shipping himself with Himeko for years.

Here I thought Mikhail had a thing for Razalina, given the lines of "He couldn't stop thinking about her and wished for her to join the crew", but actually he was charmed by the werewolf. That's a detail I would have never caught by myself.
There's a simple, realistic charm to the Watchmaker's story. He wasn't the brightest nor the most selfless, he made many mistakes and caused a lot of trouble, but his heart was dedicated to building a better future. The family wanted happiness and the cowboys wanted freedom; Mikhail was the only one fighting for both without compromise, until his last breath. Despite everything, I believe Penacony was indeed made better by the actions of Mikhail and his companions.

I saw somewhere and thought a lot about a theory, about history fictionologist, known to us as Gallagher, actually being Hanunue. We see Hanunue as a wolf-like and Hanu as well, even if not as much as illustration of Hanunue. And Gallagher through all of Penacony refers to himself as an old dog, probably even too much times for it to be just a metaphor. So even if persona of Gallagher was made up, real person, the history fictionologist, knew The Watchmaker. I say this because before the endbattle(i think that's when it happens?), he talks with what's left of Mikhail all along in that garden. He talks about hoping to see him in hell and all this. But if they knew each other only as Mikhail and Gallagher, and as much as Clockie and Scammer Cup, this sad heartfelt monologue of Gallagher would really make that much sense, wouldn't it?
So the point of theory is that persona of Gallagher was probably a Scammer Cup in fiction, but history fictionologist behind him might've been Hanunue(Hanu). In the end, why Gallagher is the one who orchestrated quest about watchmaker's legacy and not Micah - the successor of title watchmaker, from word of Milhail himself? Why would he trust him with this more?
And I know very well that this theory is very flawed, like, how the hell did he survive, but i guess i just love my gays, and a thought of them reuniting in some shape or form.
I haven't considered the idea of Hanunue being the history fictionologist before - he seems way too straight-forward in my head. I lean more towards the idea of the enigmata follower actually being Mikhail (though unintentionally). From the very start, he chooses to lie about the express blowing up in order to manipulate the townsfolk into taking charge of their own lives. He lies repeatedly in order to get the outcome he thinks is the best.
I have no proof of this, but I think once he came to the Asdana system, which naturally has traces of the Enigmata inside the memory zone, his inclination towards fiction really started taking shape (literally), especially when the cartoon came into play. Even though it records history, he still wrote it down with lots of variations and different endings and what-ifs, which is very enigmatic of him. I think the enigmata, represented by Gallagher, is drawn to working with him because of this naturally enigmatic trait of his. In saying that, he was officially a Nameless trailblazer, but I consider his 'specialty' to be in the enigmata, same way that Dan Heng's is in the permanence, and Razalina's was in the remembrance.

But that would mean that now both Michail and Gallagher (as well as Tiernan?) are completely gone, which makes my heart hurt.

The HI3 canon Yuri was before the censorship laws kicked in. Afterwards, they had to alter and adjust explicit things like the Bronseele kiss which was edited out of the Chinese version but left untouched in the global version. It wasn't only LGBT stuff that was affected - those laws are the reason that some of the genshin females had to get updated outfit models for CN that became optional skins for global version.
Acheron PV exists because it wasn't explicitly queer, just very suggestive. Within the context of the game, they can explain it away as the dances at the watchmaker's ball etc. They didn't say they were dancing romantically, and it helps that it ends with a horror sequence.
Censorship laws are NOT cope. Hoyoverse has been gradually testing the boundaries of what does and doesn't get past censorship these past few years until we are at the current point where they can have a readable where a nameless female mentions falling in love with a woman she saw. I don't have a clue what technicality they used to get that in, but we take it.
Danmei etc is also cracked down on in China, with many webnovels getting taken down or heavily censored. I'm not sure why you would ignore that.
I don't know for what purpose you resist the intent behind Mikhail's story, but you're absolutely coping if you think a man who shares a bedroom with another man and says to that same man that "You're brave~" and "Oh you, always so dashing" is heterosexual.

During the main quest, when you seek out Hanu's help alongside Firefly, you enter his office. If you investigate, a text will pop up, mentioning how all the books about Penacony on Hanu's shelf look like they've never been opened even once - all except for one, which indicated repeated reading. That one book ( or series ) was about Clockie's adventures.
I know you're not including the alternate endings, but for the individual scenes within each act, depending on what dice you put in, you can often get 2 to 3 different scenes depending on the die. So theres a version of events that works best for the goals of the movie minigame, and a version of events that doesnt. The differences can vary in how significant they are, but one example is that when the soldiers of the mirror kingdom started falling into the sea, you can get either a scene of the crew of the astral express throwing rocks at them to doom them (the one you get by playing into making the movie more thrilling) or setting differences aside to help them (the one you get by not playing into the minigame mechanics). I'm guessing the truth of the situation lies somewhere between the different possibilities, like sometimes the truth didnt make for a good movie and sometimes it did.
Also I suspect that the bombheads are the swarm, since both have a tendency to explode, and the bombheads being drawn to light sources would match well with the swarm being insects, and the sun needing to be "reignited" might actually be a retelling of a situation where the swarm blotted out the sun rather than putting it out, since thats one of the major omens theyre associated with.
I agree, though I chose to focus on the highest scoring story because I found that otherwise, in some places, the events stop making sense.
I settled on this because it's both easier to understand and doesn't require more than double the time to discuss. Initially I planned on doing the alternative endings too but it was simply too long and interrupted the flow of the story too much.

About 10 Amber Eras sooo 700 to 2500 years. Everyone in Penacony lives longer than their bodies, they just can't wake up properly once their body is dead. Gallagher's age is entirely unknown bc we don't know if Mikhail made him or if he existed as an independent entity before.

Honestly I've only been realizing lately how queercoded star rail is especially when I saw aventurine's design and the meaning behind peacock came to mind and I explored the subject a bit further. Honestly really enjoyed the video you have a great way of making these really big lore drops digestible for your average audience (that Cloclie event as lore heavy as it was was also really boring) and I am definetely looking forward to more videos.Hanunue's and Mikhail's story made me so sad. Honestly I find the Lore behind Penacony far more interesting than the worldbuilding we got during the Quest because I didn't really like Penacony's style at first but learning about its history really made it grow on me. Wishing Hanunue and Mikhail a happy Reunion in the afterlife.

Gotta love Depressioncony and all its PTSD and grief allegories, with Mikhail's copium cartoons; and them memory zone memes infiltrating good memories because he can't hold back all the repressed guilt, anger, remorse, and heartbreak. And the whole "succumbing to derealization or maladaptive daydreaming," along with the struggle to accept reality, which is literally a vital skill taught in the therapy model I'm in. And Mikhail tried so hard, but it was like a losing war,.. God damn poor guy got Super Double Ultra Rooftop Jinxed by that mourning actor. And boy, I hope that none is this is foreshadowing/warning us of things that will happen in future arcs.

Interesting thing-in the Description of Gopher Wood, there are always this tree motive-seedlings, growth, branches etc. Star Rail often connects such symbols to Aeons: if text mentions sons or amber it refers to Qlipoth, sun, fire, light, gold are associated with Nanook, bow and arrow with Lan. And it is Yaoshi the Abundance who is typically associated with plants. So... maybe Gopher Wood was a disepel of Abundance, which is why he was so obsessed with providing people with surface-level pleasure and seeing it as solution to all.

With the presence of a werewolf in the prison that strongly resembles a borisin, it's entirely possible it could be related to wingweavers? Yaoshi is known to first become present when Ena and the Swarm disappeared, so it's possible that some of the angels were converted into wingweavers which then scattered when Muldrassil was destroyed. Not much evidence to support this outside of the tree thing, but it's something to ponder...

Since Mikhail is a man liker, I wonder if it's possible he and Tiernan were romantically involved at some point? I believe Tiernan refers to Mikhail as his "companion" when talking to Acheron, and his delivery is pretty wistful/heartbroken during that whole scene, so that was the subtext I got. Not sure whether other translations shed more light on/debunk it.
I view the relationship between Mikhail, Razalina, and Tiernan as being a parallel of the Trailblazer, March, and Dan Heng. Mikhail and Trailblazer both have the compass thing going on, Razalina and March are both associated with the remembrance, and Tiernan and Dan Heng are both the guard and associated with the hunt. Personally, I only see their relationships as being like BFFs, or even siblings. I think it's very valid for Tiernan to long for a brother, especially considering how many years they were side by side.
Of course, that shouldn't stop you from shipping it in fanon though!

I know you already made a video on the swarm disaster lore but when 2.2 came out sunday and robin’s story seems to be eerily very similar to the choir twins, with one being sacrificed and them hugging and forgetting about their crowns after everything was over. Gopher did also mention that he and robin were twins of order (metamorphical or literally) , one will follow the path until the end, and Gopher does seem to have an ulterior motive behind him grooming Sunday. I’ve seen some theories that Sunday and Robin are the reincarnations of the two princes, and it is one I believe in pretty hard. thoughts?

Yes I think Penacony was very deliberately written to parallel Swarm Disaster, it’s almost 1:1 in some aspects. The reincarnation theory for Sunday and Robin is all but confirmed imo, and it very much tracks that they will both remain story relevant considering that. The Sunday Stellaron Hunter theory only sells it for me further
Makes me very confident the next planet is going to be a parallel to Gold and Gears, and so on and so forth with additional SU modes. We have all the teases for Emperor Rupert’s revival with the tomb unsealing + all the Intellitrons in Penacony and hinting towards our next Stoneheart being Pearl, who is implied to be at least somewhat Intellitron. The focus on life and what living really means in Penacony also is a perfect lead-in for those themes to be looked at somewhat differently under the guise of inorganic life
Yeah I mean, I think I mentioned in those videos that it was a precursor to Penacony. I knew the minute that a pair of angelic siblings, one heavily covered in the crucifixion of Jesus imagery, and one of them known for being an exceptional singer, that one of them was getting sacrificed in the ritual. Bonus points that they mentioned the choir in the memoria. I do think there's a very high chance that they are a samsara version of the SU twins.
I also don't think the Penacony story is really over.
1. We initially fell asleep in the train but did not wake up there again
2. We were shown another credit roll which only happens for false endings
3. Gopher Wood wasn't appropriately dealt with and it would be quite bizarre to pin everything on Sunday considering we're given the event that explains what Gopher was up to only after the msq...
4. Everything about what happened with Sparkle was suspicious, including the lack of use of her button, the way that Acheron breaking us out of the dream had the same shape as her ultimate ability, and the whole idea of her living life as an actress and having clones. Plus the name of her quest being about fools striking twice LOL (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice..?)
5. Heavy foreshadowing about Hanunue having escaped the dream and returning to save it one day, plus I don't think we had confirmation that those hound statues were actually Gallagher's in the end soooo they might have been Hanunue's all along (he IS the founder of the bloodhound family after all... and he was said to be watching Mikhail inside the dream from far away... suspicious)
Gopher’s convo with Sunday makes me think we will atleast have some endings to tie up to for a penacony continuation / or the epilogue. Sparkle’s bombs are a chekov for the epilogue, Gopher alludes to not being in control of the stellaron, etc. His convo with Sunday just kinda dropped two lore bombs on us about Sunday and Robin and then never resolved it lmao. The two are guaranteed for future story relevancy ( Sunday, atleast ) and are way too connected to the dichotomy of order and harmony as a whole to not have a payoff. I hope we get more choir twins lore when the inevitable xipena SU expansion comes around .
( P.S , the SU usually foreshadows the next region and the main characters to an extent ie Sunday and Robin as the choir twins, Acheron and crown guy, Argenti popping up, Sparkle being behind a major amount of the plot like Aha and their fools. Next region is deffo erudition related as we have the IPC broadcast, Rubert keeps getting brought up, intellitrons in Penacony, Screwy being delayed. We haven’t gotten a harmony path expansion, sunday isn’t released and has too much unfinished business forshadowed… )

Thank you for making this video, I was hoping someone would summarize the Clockie lore because it is literally so important to the story. I didn't really feel like going through all of the readable chapters and use my brainpower to figure out the metaphors, so this makes things way easier. I bet this video took some effort, it was so entertaining and well-explained. Penacony's history is so complicated, impressive, sad and dystopian...

this is some crazy effort you put into a video. so much info and plotlines and characters i think my head will explode (positively). thank you! now i understand the old penacony lore much better. everything turned out so cruel for Mikhail and the Co, this is absolutely insane. i am amazed with his inner strength and drive to help his brainchild (a whole ass planet) to come to its senses after everything he's been through
on a side note, i think that this whole story was made not-so-obviously dark so that the players would think thoroughly about it and be astonished with the scale of the events. this is some impressive writing work done here.

OMG Thank you SO much for making all the effort of summarising this!! It must have been a huge ton of work! And as a non-hsr-player, this is an awesome story aswell, with characters with so so much depth and it kinda reminds me of a fairytale, reflecting the real world while hiding stuff behind metaphors. The story was super engaging, the ending bittersweet. The author too, was daring to let his beloved characters pass away. I still don't have enough storage to download starrail, but I will definitely be looking forward to lore updates! It's crazy to think that I only landed here bc someone asked me to make Misha fanart!

This might not be true but I think robin and Sunday’s mom may have been sister wildflower or Maeven, as their entire thing was singing to try and calm down both sides kind of like what robin is always trying to do. Both of them sound like robin, and from her teaser and dialogue it’s clear her mom was a big influence on her life

He’s mentioned after everyone Mikhail loves is dead, and I’m thinking he might be a meme of the enigmata made by memoria to reflect mikhails own enigmata-esque traits while also reflecting his memories (ie. those closest to him like tiernen and hanunu.) Something like clockie and Misha, except more self sufficient? I
Your guess is as good as mine lol. The Enigmata seems to naturally exist within the sea (Probably why it's a jellyfish) so I think it was drawn to Mikhail for whatever purpose and Gallagher was manifested. It's interesting that he's identified as 'Penacony' because we don't know for sure what Penacony is...
As for the twin's mother... she's definitely not Maeven. We know what she looks like and she still exists. Sister Wildflower (Asna) should have died after the Stellaron was used, but their mother died during it. It is possible that the cartoon slightly adjusted the order of events, though!

Well, the CN version is the original one so it's the only one really worth holding at any weight. It also confirms renheng were a couple through a pun. The translations into English lose a lot of that sort of thing, which is fascinating because you'd think they'd take advantage of not being so restricted by laws...

I've read quite a few times that there are specific phrases with cultural or contextual meaning that tends to regularly get lost in translation.
Penacony is supposedly especially egregious in this regard.
@@Jafar545 most of the issues with Penacony translations have been outright omition of lore (Mythus Gallagher) or random made up phrases, like Ifrit coming from Fetora which is their weird translation of Tophet? I've got a lot of polyglot friends who often complain about the EN so I know how bad it can be...

@@mushroom5301 passerby of wandering clouds bracers where it says Dan Feng drank with the unnamed it uses a common Chinese idiom except the writers swapped out the word for cup into a different word for cup that ended up spelling out the word for engagement ceremony (it contains the word cup BC the ceremony is done by exchanging cups and drinking). Swapping this word for cup is not something done normally and hasn't been corrected despite many reports, especially from people who hate the ship.

If there is one express train, then was akavili alive during mikhail time? if yes then the swarm dissaster is too recent to make sense. If no then that means the express was lost, rediscovered by crew before mikhail boarded and then was lost again before being rediscovered by himiko.
When I started Penacony I thought it was thousands of years old and the family took their time to engrave themselves but now im confused, either mikhail & buddies have a long lifespan or time flows differently in penacony,
It's 2400 years since Tiernan defeated the lord ravager. There's also multiple trains, it used to be a 'fleet' according to one of the navigator descriptions.
If you’re confused about NPCs in Penacony that knew Mikhail personally, Micah, one of the orphans he adopted, says in a dialogue after you beat the 2.2 story that his real body died long ago and he’s just part of the dream now.
