I discovered this channel a few days ago and I like it so much that today I bought my first bottle of whiskey. Now I can follow along and drink some whiskey when you do.
For two yearsI have been having a lunch time discussion with a professor from Columbia University. He would pour me a fine port or sherry to loosen the ideas. That was fine and well. A year ago, I found out that his wife drinks bourbon. We started to discuss and compare notes. She asked to try some scotch, and I shared some bottles to try. On his own, the professor decided that I like whisky best, and asked what he should stock for our lunch talks. He's up to four bottles. This morning I got an email with an apology that he would be busy at lunch. However he would be stopping by our favorite store.....and did I have a recommendation for another whisky? Is this this just social drinking or high caliber polite mooching?
Campbeltown is becoming my region of choice. I love Springbank 10, Kilkerran Heavily Peated and Glen Scotia Double Wood in particular. They have a lovely spiciness that reminds me of my limited experience of Rye Whiskey.
I Hope you guys will describe every region of Scotland and compare them with different types and brands like you said you would a while ago but you were waiting to put it on Whisky Biscuit
Hey guys still loving the show. Over the weekend i was a buddys bachelor party and me and to other guys pitched in to get a little more expensive of a whiskey and i ended up deciding on going a Blantons and i absolutely loved it. I enjoyed every bit of at least a third of that bottle that i drank. I will admit it was a much sweeter taste than the scotches i have tried but loved all the same.
I am probably not the first to bring this up. I am a staunch southern biscuit American, but, in reviews of past episodes I watched the Teeling Irish whiskey review Daniel did. He mentions that Rex is in the vault and then proceeds to definitively describe the "biscuit" flavor as being shortbread cookie. Now, I never actually see Rex in the video. Apparently, Rex was not hanging on Daniels every word and missed the description which led to the future contention. A proper mooch would never care about such a description so there is obviously no reason to consider an explanation. Just thought I'd stir the pot a bit more.
Houston, we have a problem. Here I am, enjoying one of my many (several (a few))) bottles of Glen Scotia when I had a thought. "I want to see what my favorite two jackholes had to say about Glen Scotia." Then I find out that you've only ever reviewed one bottle of Glen Scotia(Victoriana btw). You did used Glen Scotia as a comparison but it was the same bottle. The people demand more Glen Scotia!
Finally after a 3 week binge (in reverse order just because) while filling out job applications, I have caught up! I have really enjoyed watching all of the hi-jinks and occasional whiskey talk. If I had one question it would be: what are one or two whisky's that really surprised y'all? Thank you for making my frustrating job search more bearable, and if you ever have a need for an engineer/alcohol nerd at the new distillery give me a shout. P.S. If you watch all of the episodes in reverse its all about two guys having fun drinking together and slowly becoming more serious about whiskey until one of them mysteriously moves off camera.
Oh I found another bottle of Balvenie 14 yr. Maderia Cask. If you have never tried this you need to compare with Kichoman Maderia. They are different but both bring something good to the table.
Does Rex saying that he's taking the high road count as a short joke??? Also, maybe you guys should get an official Whiskey Vault trash can cam now that you have kinda made the paper toss a thing.
The thing is that some whisky is not known at all, like the Glen Scotia overall, they have a brilliant array suitable pretty much for everyone, great review lads, I´m a fan
Storytime: I have no idea whether or not this is true, but a friend of mine, who is big into heavily peated whiskeys, wanted to scare his son (12/13 years at the time) away from hard liquors. So one day when the kid asked if he could try some whiskey, he poured him a small glass of Octomore Edition 07.1… the kid haven’t asked for whiskey since.
A California Whiskey, in Santa Cruz, two hours from San Francisco, is wayward whiskey. By Venus spirits who do several whiskeys under the name "Wayward". They do a rye, a bourbon, and a single malt. The single malt is fantastic, it tastes like banana bread.
My 21st Birthday is on Saturday. My question for you guys is what should my first legal drink be. I don't want an answer like"whatever you like" I would like a real answer. I'm thinking of getting some Angel's Envy. Love the show
Hey Daniel and Rex, just wanted to first thank you both for an amazing ride so far, I've enjoyed every single episode! I have a request, I have a friend who is by far the worst single malt scotch snob I've ever met, he tends to enjoy the super peaty Islay's, I was wondering if you could recommend a blended scotch that could take him out to the woodshed and get him on the better path of appreciating all whisky's. Thank's!
Wait so do you just want to punish him or actually teach him a lesson? How about Black Bottle? Very cheap blend mostly made up of Islay's. I think there is also a review somewhere here.
A little bit of both to some regard, he tends to believe that blended whisky's don't really have a place on anyone's shelf and I've been trying to get him to expand, to show that there is more out there than just single malts.
#7 on my road to whisky, this is freaking amazingly beautiful tasting whisky 😋 its like smores. I mean chocolate vanilla marshmallows Graham crackers and lightly smoked salty..fruity carmel pears and apples..delicious wonderful..this is an islay???? After that lagavulin 16 I am weary of islay until I get more experienced with pallet. But if this is a Islay then I need to dig around and see what else is in there lol
Daniel week? Hmm if there ever is a Rex week i can probably gues what he will pick. Please tell me if I am on point. :) 1. Macallan M 2. Macallan M 3+ Macallan M
So I I just recently had Jonnie Walker double black label which i love and instantly went out a bought a bottle, it was also my first smokey scotch I have tried and I want to explore more smokey whiskeys, what would you guys recommend to try next?
With the talk of gin, if you haven't done a Scottish gin video, try Botanist gin. It is a gin made by Bruichladdich and is amazing. You can almost taste the Scotland influence. Maybe compare the gin to the Laddie to compare some of the undertoned notes. I have not tasted a difference in the original from the current release after the buy out, but it's been some time since I had the original gin. Would love to hear your thoughts on the bottle.
After drinking money shoulder I went back to the macallan 12 and realized that it smelled a lot deeper and richer in flavor. And I couldn't even pick up and hint of alcohol......... I'm evolving!
Is there any chance, in the near future, you guys would consider doing a blind tasting? I feel like the anticipation and competitiveness between you two could make for an electric tasting. As always, thanks for the knowledge and company!
Commenting on old videos is dumb, but Daniel said "Hazelwood" @1:02 when he likely meant "Hazelburn," as Hazelburn is made by Springbank, whereas "Hazelwood" (which I just googled) is made by William Grant & Sons. Just a slip of the tongue, but I NEED TO CORRECT.
Oh, I`ve got the same comment since didn't see yours. You`re absolutely right, my friend(just did the same mistake as Daniel, and bought Hazelwood 18 and 21fof Hazelburn(was positively surprised ).
Daniel and Rex, Love the show it’s really helped me to explore things I never would have before. Have you ever thought about doing a traveling sommelier program? Was just thinking how cool that would be! Thanks!
Unfortunately, no. The location here is half the fun :-) But we are considering doing traveling sommelier events that are half training and half business marketing days.
Have you tried glenlivvet 12 yet I bought some this weekend and I was quite disappointed it was too sweet for me and all I could taste was honey and lemon almost reminded me of a honey cough drop. It wasn't a bad whiskey but it wasn't my type of whiskey for sure. Can you recommend a whiskey for me that has a bit of kick in it not too much but one you can definitely feel?
I am fairly new to Scotch and would love some advice from anyone really, feel free to opine fellow fans. I think Talisker and Laphroig are foul and should only be used for cleaning wounds. I don't mind the smoke, just the phenols. I like Auchentoshan and Monkey Shoulder. My all-time favorite whiskey is Red Breast so I think it might be time to try a sherried scotch. I am thinking of buying a bottle of Glenfarclas. Do you think that is a good place to start? Any other sherry bombs on your short list? Are there any American whiskies finished in Sherry casks? Are they any good?
Can I request a review of McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt? Your database says it's in the vault. I finally bought some after looking at it for a while and Holy shit. It may be my fave American Single Malt right now. The guy sources the Barley and peat from Islay and matures it by the coast in Oregon. It's like an American Islay whiskey and it's damn good!
Whiskey Vault That's actually surprising bc I thought it was something you'd immediately be a fan of. Really cool production method of sourcing from peated barley from Islay and it's also damn good! I may have to send you a bottle just to expedite the review.
Not drunk or high; you should indeed be.. your errors are but only errors and Rex is awesome. Daniel equals excellent whisky knowledge and preforms with skill in "Patience + fine Etiquette". Well done. Ps do you even want the peoples comments anymore?
Oh my Good Lord, I have been telling my gin drinking friends FOR YEARS that Cambelltown scotches are where they need to begin their exploration. Thank you, thank you, thank you two. My life for you to cover the Victoriana. I dare you. ;)
i agree Rex, Daniel is the tallest hobbit i have ever seen. i also went back to the store to buy that exceptional malt but apparently they have no more and the release was very limited so i got lucky but at the same time its almost impossible to get where i live. So as i drink this here's to Rex, for teaching me how to mooch expensive whiskey that i cant afford and sure Daniel i guess here's to you and the week you can choose your own whiskey that Rex will still mooch from you. its a win win.
What would you guys think about reviewing Mackinlay's Shackleton remake? I think the history lesson as well as the tasting notes would make a good episode.
Did you know that GS Victorian bottled back in 2015 with 51,5% ABV was artificially colored….😮 I have two different bottles: 1) Bottled 2015 at 51,5% ABV - not on bottle, nor box it does not say “Natural Color” - and on bottle it says - E150a added 2) Bottled 2017 at 51.5% ABV - this one states both on bottle and box: Natural color That means - not only the ABV is a variation in Victoriana bottlings, but that early bottlings had a added artificoal color to it also. Is there a penalty for missing the shot, like if Rex misses, would he be forced to watch Daniel drink an expensive whiskey of his choosing, without being able to mooch?
Ooh, nice! I've been to Campbeltown & visited each distillery there - including Glen Scotia... where we basically tasted everything they made including the Victoriana. Ended taking home a bottle of their 2016 Festival single cask.
My father bought a 70cl bottle of johnnie walker blue a while back to give to an important friend. Turns out the friend doesn't drink, and now he's given the whisky to me. What level mooch am I? Edit: I should mention, I've only tried three whiskys ever. And I'm underage
Rex and Daniel! I'd sure like to see you guys review the bottle y'all got from me 10 days ago (the swedish one that required adult signature) please do it :D
For Halloween I'm just going to walk around with a bald cap on and a glass of whisky and say I'm Daniel from the whisky vault. It's the perfect costume, low budget and I get to drink whisky all night! Thought?
Rex, knowing Daniel 's weakness, you can always threaten him with a wet-Willy (that's where you wet your finger and stick it in his ear) to pour the whiskey of your choice. Sorry Daniel.
One of my Favorites! also the Glen Scotia Double cask is a masterpiece!
Totally would've figured Daniel for a hugger, my dreams of a warm hobbit embrace are dashed
forever

Don't fight it. It was meant to be.
Campbeltown is becoming my region of choice. I love Springbank 10, Kilkerran Heavily Peated and Glen Scotia Double Wood in particular. They have a lovely spiciness that reminds me of my limited experience of Rye Whiskey.
post more often on whisky biscuit. I NEED MORE CONTENT GOD DAMMIT!!!
saturdays-ish
I Hope you guys will describe every region of Scotland and compare them with different types and brands like you said you would a while ago but you were waiting to put it on Whisky Biscuit

Nothing is more annoying than seeing all these whiskeys and yet I can't find any of them in stores.
Gotta be one of the best scotch whisky available . . . loved it!
Houston, we have a problem. Here I am, enjoying one of my many (several (a few))) bottles of Glen Scotia when I had a thought. hahahahahah. The reverse story is amazing.
Wyoming Bourbon surprised me as a non bourbon drinker. So did Laws Four Grain.
Is it weird that I don’t like whiskey but I love watching these videos?
not at all.
Cheers Gents.
Are we going to ever get that trash can shot? Go Pro's are pretty cheep guys.
Nice! Send a couple our way ;-)
They tell you to steal a lovers heart, not my comment! :D
Go Pro? Im pretty sure rex has a shipping container full of video gear stashed away somewhere. I wanna see that in slow mo! Time the RED!
I can only imagine what Rex Week will be Macallen M all week long
Harry Falkenberg, ssshhhh. Don't spook him. Just make #rexweek happen.

I tried this with my boys. Unfortunately, they both liked it.

Glen Scotia reminds me of Japanese whisky as well! Tasting for the first time now - Double Cask.

Specimem, that would make a fine name for one of your future experimental whiskeys!
Glen Scotia 15 is whole whisky experience into itself !
I'd say get Compass Box. They're considered fine whisky even among the snobbiest of whisky lovers in Scotland.

another great one guys. i wanted to thank you for turning me on to the Still It channel , really learning a lot over there Sláinte
He's awesome! Glad you dig it.
After we survive Daniel week can we have a Rex year
... omg... i was thinking way to small! forget about #rexweek ... we need #rexyear !!
I just tried this and thought it tasted like a high proof Hakushu! Pleased you also said "reminds me of Japanese".
Daniel week? Hmm if there ever is a Rex week i can probably gues what he will pick.
Please tell me if I am on point. :)

dive right into Islay!
Whiskey Vault what's a good Islay scotch I should buy and also I'm thinking of sending you a bottle of Australian whiskey, what's your postal address?
With the talk of gin, if you haven't done a Scottish gin video, try Botanist gin. It is a gin made by Bruichladdich and is amazing. You can almost taste the Scotland influence. I keep Botanist in my house at all times :-)
sangerspyro The bottle is GORGEOUS.
The glen scotia 15 is also fantastic
I have the cask strength version. It's a wallop of a dram.
coming from a rubber maker the iodine taste is from the mix of carbon powder and hard clay
Thank you Master Mooch Supreme Rex for gracing my comment with your voice.
After drinking money shoulder I went back to the macallan 12 and realized that it smelled a lot deeper and richer in flavor. And I couldn't even pick up and hint of alcohol......... I'm evolving!
Hey lads -- drinking this tonight for the first time. You had me at Hazelwood. LOL
Is there any chance, in the near future, you guys would consider doing a blind tasting? I feel like the anticipation and competitiveness between you two could make for an electric tasting. As always, thanks for the knowledge and company!
Please review Speyburn 10.. this is a need. Can you make it happen, please?
Hands down one of the funniest video yet . So next week is REX week ?

Daniel Peabody
Have you tried Old Pulteny 12? Definitely a step up. Lovely stuff.
Daniel Peabody
And if you ever want to blow your mind try Bookers 7 years bourbon at 130 proof. It’s an almighty flavour experience!
Hakushu has the salt/ cucumber flavors with a vegetive taste and a bit of vanilla off memory.. it sounds similar!
I am fairly new to Scotch and would love some advice from anyone really, feel free to opine fellow fans. I think Talisker and Laphroig are foul and should only be used for cleaning wounds. If you go from gin to springbank you're in for a huge shock... :)
Good shit boys. Can't wait to see the next whisky Daniel picks out that I can't afford.....
Do more Campbelltown videos. Glen Scotia 8 PX
i agree Rex, Daniel is the tallest hobbit i have ever seen. i also went back to the store to buy that exceptional malt but apparently they have no more and the release was very limited so i got lucky but at the same time its almost impossible to get where i live. I'm so excited for Rex week. Any idea what we can expect?
blatant opportunism and dick jokes.
If I’m ever down y’all’s way, I’m gonna make sure to give Daniel a big hug and maybe even hunch on his leg. 😂
What would you guys think about reviewing Mackinlay's Shackleton remake? I think the history lesson as well as the tasting notes would make a good episode.
I just have to track down a bottle!
Welcome to the trashketball vault.
That bottle is bigger than Daniel. Santa should bring you some platform boots for Christmas, man
Please review limeburners single malt darkest winter
If we can get a camera for the trash can that would be great guys, I know your busy thanks and keep the videos coming
I guess we just learnt Daniels kryptonite then huh!
totally. chad cut out the part where he pulled a knife on me for threatening to hug him. 😂😂😂
Psst Rex... Daniel made the shot because you know... he has the keycode to the vault so he practices ;)
Did you know that GS Victorian bottled back in 2015 with 51,5% ABV was artificially colored….😮
I have two different bottles:
1) Bottled 2015 at 51,5% ABV - not on bottle, nor box it does not say “Natural Color” - and on bottle it says - E150a added
2) Bottled 2017 at 51.5% ABV - this one states both on bottle and box: Natural color
That means - not only the ABV is a variation in Victoriana bottlings, but that early bottlings had a added artificoal color to it also.
Wonder if anybody has compared these two versions side by side?
A NEW RULE.
A new rule. When Rex hits the Trash Can, he can choose a whiskey to take home for "reviewing". :-D
this is not only good science. its top shelf wisdom.
Is there a penalty for missing the shot, like if Rex misses, would he be forced to watch Daniel drink an expensive whiskey of his choosing, without being able to mooch?
The Mooch not being able to mooch? Thats against the nature 😂
i'll agree to this rule, and i will definitely break this rule if i ever miss a shot.
Have you ever tried Concannon Irish whiskey? It seems hard to find but i remember it being very pleasant but strong when i tried it
I haven't!
"All about what Daniel wants"
But Rex just wants whiskey so...
sshhh. he thinks he's winning, and i need sympathy if we want #rexweek to be a thing.
Rex valid point 😂
But it's Daniel's choice, so it will be whisky instead of whiskey. Nerds will understand the difference. Everyone else will not care. :P
...and neither will the mooch!
Ancient Ancient Age. It's what Mike wants you see you drink. :)
Never drunk and/or high.. don't you mean never sober?
Cheers!!
PithyGinger 63 - Level 63 I presume.
His finger and thumb at 0:40 made me feel funny
Rex and Daniel! I'd sure like to see you guys review the bottle y'all got from me 10 days ago (the swedish one that required adult signature) please do it :D
It's on the list! Spirit of Hven will be appearing shortly!
Did you just send us a bottle of Dalvve?
Whiskey Vault I did
#rex week
Glenlivet 12 pleaseeee!!!
whats that at 0:32 ?
At 1:02. Springbank Hazelwood? oops!
For Halloween I'm just going to walk around with a bald cap on and a glass of whisky and say I'm Daniel from the whisky vault. It's the perfect costume, low budget and I get to drink whisky all night! Thought?
You might be better off going as Rex the Mooch because then people will just give you whisky
Whiskey Vault holy shit you're right!!!
not sure if it will get there but i going to send you a rum and a gin ok
rock.
..can you please talk a bit more about the whiskies? How it’s evolving in the glass? Frustrating with an initial tasting that goes..nowhere😂
Is that a typical Glen Scotia?
No, I think it's lighter compared to some of their other line.
CAMPBELLS REPRESENT! 🤘
heck yes!
"Taking the high road." Was that a dad short joke? Or maybe a short dad joke?
I want video proof of these made shots or they never happened
"I was prepared for a spanking"..... exact same thing I said on my honeymoon...
ran out weller and wanted something described cause i couldnt leave the house *embarrassed*
😄👍
probably should have asked a recommendation for a whiskey to drink during a hurricane
#RexWeek
Not that I'm from Scotland or anything, but are there any other nerds here who find Daniel's pronunciation of Campbeltown to be just too American?
I do. I do.
What is with these beard sparkles in every video? 0:32
Sharkweek is what i call it when my wife is having her . !
Beggars can’t be choosers, but can moochers be choosers?
Ryder'sCove, they can if we can make #rexweek a thing.
Short Week!
Sorry. Low blow.
Please god ... don't let the Campbeltown distilleries try and be friendly.
Hine
Rex, knowing Daniel 's weakness, you can always threaten him with a wet-Willy (that's where you wet your finger and stick it in his ear) to pour the whiskey of your choice. Sorry Daniel.
Whiskey Vault If he tries it, pour him some of the Blendagedon again.
Hendricks gin is amazing gin
