Mike Browning always seems really down to earth. The Key is one of the greatest metal records ever, in my opinion, and I think Paradox is an excellent companion album to it. I think the main reason it succeeded where so many other similar albums typically fail is the fact that you can clearly tell it is an album Mike deeply cared about and he put a ton of effort and passion into it.

Totally agree. Amazing to hear about so many technical issues in the studio, yet the record still overall sounds great. Regarding more personal interview details, there is a heavy amount of comedy and tragedy concerning band members, condolences all around. Eternal gratitude for Mike and The Key 🎼

I paused this interview and rode my bike 2 blocks to get a beverage. My local record purveyor is next to the market. On the wall was 'The Key'. WTF? The gods smiled at me today.

Mike has gotta be one of the coolest people and muscians from the whole 80s/90s death metal scene. Love his drumming and The Key is one of the best Florida albums in my opinion.

Can't argue with this statement. The Key is brilliant.

    • @Nissardpertugiu

The key is the more european sounding of florida albums .
Because Mike and Nocturnus had even on demos even on Morbid angel AOD it have a black metal flair to it in it
It keeps that era where both genres werent separated with rest of 70's influences too
But ...the rawer and more sound space production sound and stuff . More impulsive agression to.it ( more like Italians bands...)
If i didn't knew that mike was in the band. Even on science of horror demo , i would never say it was a tampa band .

When I put this video on I really hoped some mention on Mike Davis...that guy was out of this world and disappeared to return to his; I'd really like to know what happened to him, what he's doing now.
Nonetheless listening to the legend himself Mike Browning was an immense pleasure and the 1 & half hour passed very fast.
He has an impressive memory and a great way to tell stories.
    Bless him.
Hope one day to discover something more about Mike Davis.

Cool interview. A great look into that time and area. It's funny about the tape recordings. When you go back and listen they sound different. Like you'll get a sixteenth note shaved of a measure here and there and the tempo fluctuates. But's they're all cool little pieces of art. Almost closer to live performances.
After we've had so many albums using programmed drums, it's almost like people expect to hear that sound. I think some drummers have even incorporated it. But there's no replacing a great drummer. The dynamics and tone. And although the overhead is difficult, with the volume especially, it's night and day.

The artwork in the background reminds me of the work a graphic artist did covers for for an ex-guitarist of mine. What bothers me about it is I did all my artwork by hand and spent hours and months and all of it got stolen or destroyed. Its as though every idiot I ever knew said they are the only ones with an opinion that matters and they can do my themes better and more professionally. I wouldn't steal or destroy others work as they've done mine and I certainly don't draw or play to out-do someone else or speak over their opinion.
