  • I interview Chris Anthony, the CEO of Aptera. The questions I asked him were the ones I think potential customers or investors would want to know. More information on Aptera can be found at aptera.us/

    We love Aptera and all they stand for! The super efficiencies of: very low aerodynamic drag, the in-wheel motors that all but eliminate drive train loses, and light vehicle weight... all of these combine to make solar integration possible and meaningful. The goal of ultra long vehicle life through the use of composite body materials. Add to this list the product development transparency, the support of right-to-repair, and crowd funding, and you have a very rare, positive combination! Great interview and Aptera content, thank you.

    Wonderful that folks will be able to be "green" yet still have mobility at a gear head level. So few are aware of the Aptera, it's ethos deserves more attention. In so many ways it seems to hit all the important things. Great on environmental impact, higher efficiency on aerodynamics, stronger longer lasting that steel composite, carbon fiber, designed to be very safe. When people see these on the road the conversation will challenge the status quo, more than anything since the personal computer 🖥️. Investors should take notice, but have yet to get the memo. I am invested, on the Leaderboard for the Launch Edition, still have about 640 left, $10000 get you the the first 2000 built. Good job, thanks for covering Aptera.

    No one in the industry or automobile press gave any acknowledgment to Aptera concerning NACS. Ford's CEO stated they had been working with Tesla for years before Tesla opened the standard as they required vehicle to home capability. Aptera stated in December 2023 they are not allowed to use super chargers as that requires certification which they are not in position to do.
    Any production ramp up requires CPC Group to ramp up as well so it is not likely it can happen quickly. As for safety, that it is produced using a form of carbon fiber by no means it has the safety of a F1 car which relies on far more than a simple pressed carbon fiber body to protect their drivers.

    I first saw an Aptera here on the streets of Carlsbad about 15 years ago and saw it again a few months ago at Cars and Coffee. Same story as always: the technology, new investors needed, procured production, send us deposit money, about to produce, need more money, commissioning tooling, need crowd funding, hope to scale up soon, out of money. Anyone seeing the common theme? Even at 14:00, when Mr Anthony can't give an answer, just "we hope to" is clearly the same red flag? Let's ask PT Barnum.

If they fail, it won't be for lack of sincere efforts, passion, quality of engineering, money raising and management, managing copyrights and the SEC and safety, and building factory, and developing software, and being more transparent than most ant startup, and partnering with suppliers and etc, etc. You try and do better or just remain an armchair.

      IT IS A SCAM. It will ALWAYS be ready "tomorrow" or next year. Supposedly "re-tooling" and tweaking bullshit things forever, until they declare bankruptcy AGAIN. Yes, again. They walked away with 24 million dollars in 2011 with the same scam.
      Their factory produces nothing. It is an empty shell. Their specs are all LIES. Never get the supposed range they claim. The solar is a total bullshit gimmick, it will never produce any real charging. Their design is lifted from CANAM motorcycle. They have NO intellectual property. They do not make anything, it is all subbed out to other companies. It is NOT carbon fiber.
      Ultimately this is a $40+K two seat motorcycle that has been "in development" for over a decade. NIKOLA, THERANOS, FTX, TESLA - APTERA - all scams.

    I noticed that Chris is saying the top speed is back to 110mph now whereas before, after they announced the modified Elaphe in-wheel motors they were saying 101mph. Maybe they have done some testing and figured out they can get more speed than they thought? Not sure what "electro-mechanically limited" means, it sounds like it is not software limited in any way, just pedal to the metal and that's what you get, I guess. Maybe you could go faster at a higher altitude? Hmm, a Pikes Peak run in an Aptera would be interesting...

    Aptera is the Ford Pinto of this era. It's already an outclassed dinosoar. Nearly invisible from the rear, even the slightest rear end collision will be serious. The tail is higher than most cars front bumpers. That they are now reaching for public investors is proof enough that the industry and people of even moderate intelligence have long figured it out. This vehicle is a deathtrap outside of strictly rural, short range commuting. The solar cells will degrade over time through normal road wear. Stay very, very well clear. They have nothing left but the hype they started with decades ago. Aptera is a very dangerous and treacherous vehicle. There is no way on any planet I would even remotely consider driving one at night. I cringe at the thought of the first round of accident reports.

      Here is a "Deep Dive" video on Aptera's charging.
      Of note the Aptera only use 100 wH/mile or less. It's 400 mile battery is only 45kW So the number of charge miles per hour at 50kW is quite high.
      345 miles in under 45 minutes if I recall. Details and comparisons in the video.

      Agreed. I thought I read at one point they were trying to achieve like 60 kw for DC charging but that is pretty crappy. Honestly anything less than 150 kwh DC fast charging is crappy but it should be at least 100 kwh DC fast charging if they want to do the EV public charging adoption a favor by being able to charge EV cars faster.

    • @garywozniak7742
      @garywozniak7742 11 месяцев назад

      At 48kW the Aptera can charge ~477 miles/hour
      ~238.5/30 minute + you get solar charge while you're driving. The 20%-80% slice of the 400 mile battery is 240 miles 30 minutes to charge it is not that bad. I think they are planning to up the charge rate for the 600 and 1K battery option if the ever make it into production.
      The 50kW will work for me.

    • @DarthTinderalla-qm9zw
      @DarthTinderalla-qm9zw 11 месяцев назад

      @@garywozniak7742 I didn't say it wouldn't work. It's misleading to say it charges faster when most of the new vehicles will be using faster chargers that will compensate for the lower efficiency. Aptera may be 3 times more efficient than Tesla, but Tesla can charge 6 times as fast which means double the miles per minute. And the new nacs chargers are supposed to be able to support 1000kw charging aka 20 times aptera's current charge rate when.
      I'll probably only have to use chargers a few times a year so it isn't a big deal, but I still don't like the misleading sales pitch
