My jaw literally dropped. The vision and mastery required to craft this creation is truly stunning. I would dearly have loved to have seen the piece in person.
Peace~Love~Happiness to Malcolm and Andy. I am quadriplegic, have been for the last 10 years. Watching you create brings peace, love, and happiness to my soul. My constant pain is greatly diminished as I watch the love that you put into your work. Thank you so much for sharing and God Bless.
Im am awed by your vision, talent, and patience in birthing this beautiful piece of art. As a woodworker, I appreciate it more than you know….you have challenged me, inspired me, and brought great joy to me in watching your video. Thank you very much!
I am just starting to put a woodworking shop together in my garage now that I am retired. I stumbled onto this RUclips video all I can say is what a fabulous work of art, Malcolm you have a remarkable creative talent and an obvious love of woodworking...Keep it up..!
Mr. Tibbetts, you are a true artist with infinite patience and attention to detail. I cannot believe the angles for all those 31,000 pieces to fit perfectly. I look forward to seeing your work at the gallery every time I am in South Lake Tahoe.
I didn't just see some woodworking here. I saw incredible vision, planning, innovation, collaboration and unbelievable tenacity all wrapped in a spirit of generosity. What a staggering production and achievement. A big thank you for sharing from Sydney, Australia from a very inspired woodworker! Cheers - Dave
@deldridg I totally concur and 100% endorse your remarks. Having just stumbled upon this video, I have now viewed it 3 times and will again. I am 'blown-away'! Greetings from a fellow Australian down the road at Wollongong. Cheers, Steve
Your passion, creativity and perseverance is incredible, exceeded only by your positive outlook after such a heinous, misguided act. Thank you for sharing your inspirational message. Cheers!
Way to go Malcolm. I'm impressed and glad you went in with an open mind and left with inspiration and a contribution. I hope to bring my parents one day..
I am always amazed at the time and energy people put in to a once a year, hot, crowded and dusty event......we are a pretty interesting species.....hope it was fun for you!
You're a master with so much experience. Please don't be discouraged you from creating future large beautiful works like this to the public. Your voice is important and you have so much to give!
So glad you documented the process and that you got good footage on the playa. So sad to hear the outcome of your experience. It's been my concern the last few years I've been on playa. With larger installations of mine we had a support camp and had 'hosts' at the work on a 24 / 7 basis. It's a whole additional layer to manage but it did keep the art safe. It just takes one person in 70,000 to ruin the whole thing :( Thank you for your contribution
we were in SLT on monday driving around looking at properties. I saw your work in a driveway down a side street. I had to back up and pull down the street to see them closer. That was me in the white caravan that stopped in front of the drive where some of the pieces were. Even just by themselves sitting in a driveway they are Beautiful! I was amazed, I wondered, are they actually made of wood - or paper, maybe cardboard... I had to get out and touch the sculpture, thrilled to be touching hard wood, redwood... I have thot of those pieces everyday since, marveling at how wonderful they are, the time that obviously went into them, the Love, the Vision. Imagine my surprise when looking at some random RUclips video on sticks that there they are in the sidebar! Thank you! Thank you for creating these, they are so wonderful. I am sorry that someone broke them. Thank you for making the videos and sharing this story. I love the details of the builds, it reminds me of the desire in me to make art, to build things just cuz they are so cool... Thank you!
Not sure how I stumbled across this video but I'm.aure glad I did! Your work is incredible! Such a labor of love and it's amazing what can be created with such simple elements :)
WOW!!!! Absolutely amazing!!! The skill, patience, knowledge, and organization that went into all of "this" is outstanding!!!! Thank you so much for putting this video on here. Again, WOW!!!!!
Astounding. The expertise in geometry, trigonometry, material science and engineering are beyond the comprehension of the average person when they see this piece. That doesn't begin to touch the skill set and experience required. I truly believe you could see this in your mind's eye as it would appear when complete and how you were going to do it. You must have spent many nights laying awake just figuring out how to ... "make the tools so you could make the tool to make the parts". No doubt untold hours must have been spent calculating compound angles, material requirements and the time required to machine and fabricate each component, wood and metal. As a fellow craftsman I salute you, sir. Well done.
Not only is it a shame that this was vandalized, but it's a shame that so many in the comments don't appreciate the effort and passion that went into making this. You don't have to "get" art to appreciate good workmanship and quality.
There's still a few, and there are even new ones popping up, complaining about where the effort was directed, complaining about the "waste" of resources or time, etc.
yeah. such a shame. Burning man is an occult religious festival, with its own adhearants, priests, rituals and sacrifices. lets cry about the waste of 31,000 pieces of redwood from 1000 year old tree wasted instead
Wonder why so many dislikes ..? Are there really so many people who are jealous of this man s hard work ...?? This man is having such great talent. Must appreciate it. Shame on those dislikes. Pity those humans. Could have given up their lives a human , to some animal , which world have shown some gratitude and be more deserving, than a life of humans like these people who disliked even a beautiful video like this.....................
An incredible piece of both Engineering and Woodworking skills. Fascinating to watch. I didn't want to watch your second video as it was obvious your artwork was damaged in some way. I did though.
Man the skill and time required to make this project is amazing. You sir are a true craftsman. Thank you for showing us your work. Also I love the rubber bands when the clamps were no longer big enough to fit over it
i,am sorry to here your project was vandalized. my project got vandalized also. please don't let that stop you from bring more of your to the playa. i for one would love to see more of your work there.
they were vandalized because guys like you have turned burning man in to a joke nice work but your missing the point of burning man it's not a art show
I built a giant golf club and put tuned copper tubes and plates of steal on it and gave people golf clubs to try and play music. Some of my tubes were beaten so hard to be flattened and my laser destroyed. You can't take anything to Burningman and say don't climb on it, people will climb it. Its not the place for fragile art. Sorry what happened.
As a fellow woodworker, I'm in complete awe. The level of skill, precision, planning and determination to do something like this is mind boggling. Thanks for sharing the video!
I was mesmerized!! I have no words to describe the beauty you and your son are adding to this world. Thank you. (I won't be watching part 2. I would rather remain happy 😊)
I am awed at the level of innovation, craftsmanship, artistic vision, and dedication to a dream like this that has such a beautiful message. Peace, love and happiness. The word awesome is used so much today but this truly is the essence of that word.
Malcolm, Thank you so much for making this beautiful piece. As a woodworker and a burner I sincerely appreciate the craftsmanship and your dedication to bringing that craftsmanship to the playa. I am heartbroken with you about the damage to your work during the event but please know that so many people appreciate and enjoyed your work. I can imagine that your experience this year puts a damper on your enthusiasm for bringing work to Black Rock City but I hope you also know that the vast majority of participants were impressed, moved and awed by your work. Thank you so much for sharing both of these videos. And Ioved the father son collaboration. Please consider making more videos, the youtube community of makers and woodworkers is impressive and I think you would have a lot to contribute. Best of luck.
Malcolm, the amount of precision work that went into the making of this is amazing. The engineering and turning are most excellent. I am amazed that some thoughtless, disturbed person could take it upon himself to attempt to destroy all this work,.
Non-visual arts. Music and rhythm. Visual art is expensive and I don't like my tax money spent on it and I quite honestly don't appreciate it enough to make it worth money.
The planning and prep and craftsmanship here is incredible. It is beautiful. But I agree, I don't think tax dollars should be spent on things like this. Shouldn't the attendees and the organizers be paying for it? Or whoever is making the profit?
I love the visual arts. I love the art deco of the Chrysler bldg, the Empire State bldg, Hoover dam. The more beneficial, the more accessible, and the more permanent, the better!
Very interesting. I like the geometrical knots. I wouldn´t have executed the Smiley and Peace symbol in such massive way though. It looks more like a showdown than passing peace message to the people. And the amount of redwood wasted for it isn´t symbolizing peace in my perspective. It´s rather war on nature.
people like you sir are what give us humans the wow factor.i just hope realize the level of skill this is at to make that wood piece.long live creative people and the arts.
This is incredible. I never cease to be amazed at what the mind of man can conceive . And tha ability to see something so esoteric by the power of YT. Thankyou
Fantastic, Malcolm!! I can only begin to imagine the amount of work that you and Andy put into this... An absolute masterpiece, and the true definition of a "labor of love". Here's to both of you - no, to ALL of you (loved the cameos of Abbott and Christie too!!).
I cannot fathom how anyone finds the patience to carry out all this repetitive work. Half a dozen pieces would freak me out, never mind thousands! Amazing!
I simply don't have words to express my amazement and wonder about your work. I had chiken skin of emotion on how great and beautiful your ingenuity and skill transformed the wood into this amazing proof of the human genius and hability
A beautiful and painstaking effort. A good story. It's the journey.. not the destination. Sad the end results, but you still made it.. and made it there. Keep moving forward. Keep doing what you do so well.
This is amazing! The message of love and peace and happiness was really good for me. I needed it. I'm not going to watch the second part jet because I think it may hurt me right now. But something when I get better I may. Awesome project, incredible good. I don't know what else to say. Thank you!
No words can really describe the emensity or skill that's gone into this project Malcome, you are a true artist no doubt. Thank you very much for sharing this project with us on youtube. I was "glued" to the screen !!
Wow. I thought some of Kyle Toth's segmented projects were large scale but you are working at another level on again. As a beginner to segmented turning, I can only offer my awe and respect. Thanks for sharing your amazing skills!
It's this kind of human endeavor which demonstrates just how fantastic people can be. Loved the video, blown away by the work, and now, not sure if I can watch part 2.
Ok Malcolm-You win! Man, I have a new appreciation for this project. What an awesome achievement. I know the outcome wasn't as expected, but the journey must have been a range of emotions and thrill to be a part of. You are a credit and inspiration to more than just woodturners. Thanks for the video-what fun!
I am a woodworker and I cannot even imagine starting a project like this. With all the saw cuts and glue up alone I would be overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely Awesome. Artistic, creative, imaginary. Words cannot describe. Malcolm this will go down in history as your Masterpiece. Well done my friend.
I am in awe of the amount of work you put into that! That is seriously impressive. You have inspired me to try segmenting again. Keep up the good work and keep turning!
As I watched and wondered, I realised there were many hours put into this, but an actual years work for one person. On your own it would be nigh impossible!! Stunning to look at. I'm a wood man who uses words for building ideas.
Your art and skill is amazing - your a true master craftsman. Thank you for sharing this video. I have never been to Burning-man, but at least I got to see your art. I did watch the other video and I am sorry that happened to you.
My jaw literally dropped. The vision and mastery required to craft this creation is truly stunning. I would dearly have loved to have seen the piece in person.
Wow, I cannot even fathom the level of skill and persistence it takes to complete such a piece of art. Well done.

The amount of time, effort and skill that has gone into this project is almost incomprehensible. This video was amazing, thank you for sharing.
Absolutely inspiring work. Also, I keep hearing "you can never have enough clamps" I now see why! Great work.
as a 36 year old woodturner I just want to express my awe at your work! you are a true inspiration!!!!!
So glad you had all this footage, really captured all the time, effort, creativity, and skill that went into it!
oh geez!!!
Im am awed by your vision, talent, and patience in birthing this beautiful piece of art. As a woodworker, I appreciate it more than you know….you have challenged me, inspired me, and brought great joy to me in watching your video. Thank you very much!

You Sir are one special person....not only the patience of a saint, but a remarkable craftsman...😳... I watched this video in awe...
I have no way of expressing how beautiful your job is 👍🏼
go away
Tomas Arguinzoni I agree. Iwas just expecting something simple, but I am speechless. Amazing idea and craftsmanship. Thank you for videoing.
Except with words... And ya didn't.
So beautiful, I’m afraid to watch part II now since you said someone tried to destroy it.
"... because it isn't."
I am humbled by the level of skill and creativity. A true masterpiece.
That is an amazing piece of sculptural art. I love it. Cheers, Jim
Stunning. You and your son are so talented! What a gift to be able to create something so beautiful together.
Astounding! The process blew my mind, and the end result was so beautiful. Really just amazing.
Completely and totally blown away with the beautiful design, and execution. This is woodworking art to a new level. I am humbled.
Your passion, creativity and perseverance is incredible, exceeded only by your positive outlook after such a heinous, misguided act. Thank you for sharing your inspirational message. Cheers!
I am just sitting here infront of my computer with my mouth opened. I admire not only your craftmanship but also your patience.
This (amazing) project caused the great clamp and rubber band shortage of 2017.
Pete Brown it was a rough winter
There's been a clamp shortage since man first debarked a tree...
😂😂😂
Worth it.
Hahaha :)
Way to go Malcolm. I'm impressed and glad you went in with an open mind and left with inspiration and a contribution. I hope to bring my parents one day..

Snipers needed to guard artwork.
Sir,
I doff my cap to you. To go through the labor and expense just for the enjoyment of others is art of the highest form. WOW! AWESOME!
Jesus. When I clicked on the thumbnail, I was expecting a particularly interesting segmented bowl or something. Holy shit. Amazing.

When you tell your wife this project "will only take a few hours..."
Wow - that is incredible. I am utterly amazed at this build and the design process behind it - it is beyond my thought process capabilities. Scott
your woodworking is great but that tripod is a masterpiece
My son, Andy gets all the credit for the tripod. It was rock-solid.
Must run in the family. Really cool that both you and your son are working at such a high skill level
It is incredible the texture and finish that you put on those pieces. It almost looks fake how clean they are! Absolutely astounding to look at
i,am sorry to here your project was vandalized. my project got vandalized also. please don't let that stop you from bring more of your to the playa. i for one would love to see more of your work there.

Pretty sure BM isn't about trashing redwoods. You could have made that out of junk pine and it would have been just as impressive.
no one is trashing red woods, the wood comes from lumber plantations, you hippies are imploding
*hear
What a vision ...and an incredible amount of skill, effort, and patience.... experience and foresight. Amazing.
WTF that is some crazy awesome shit!
try growing up!
As an amateur wood turner and craftsman... I can't even fathom the enormity of this project. Kudos to you and your vision!

Ty, I never spare the glue, especially with redwood which soaks it up like a sponge.
What an absolutely incredible amount of work and creativity went into that. Amazing.
That must have been painfully repetitive.
Sir, you and your son are both incredible visionary artist's, your creation is simply, EPIC!!

I was mesmerized!! I have no words to describe the beauty you and your son are adding to this world. Thank you. (I won't be watching part 2. I would rather remain happy 😊)

Here I am making redwood furniture for those of less means, not anymore. Living the dream huh?
what?
Malcolm, the amount of precision work that went into the making of this is amazing. The engineering and turning are most excellent. I am amazed that some thoughtless, disturbed person could take it upon himself to attempt to destroy all this work,.
The craftsmanship is absolutely amazing but I don't appreciate visual art at all. My loss I guess.
And that's all it is...
Non-visual arts. Music and rhythm. Visual art is expensive and I don't like my tax money spent on it and I quite honestly don't appreciate it enough to make it worth money.

Amazing work Malcolm. I am so thankful Peggy send me your video. What an experience for you and Andy. Am sorry for the loss.
Very interesting. I like the geometrical knots. I wouldn´t have executed the Smiley and Peace symbol in such massive way though. It looks more like a showdown than passing peace message to the people. And the amount of redwood wasted for it isn´t symbolizing peace in my perspective. It´s rather war on nature.
kulturfreund66 The "knots" are know as "orderly tangles." Would you feel any better if the redwood were recycled material?
Who asked your “opinion?”
@CabinDoor you don't know what waste is, although you are an example of it.
I am humbled by your dedication to complete such an amazing piece. WOW Thumbs up.
people like you sir are what give us humans the wow factor.i just hope realize the level of skill this is at to make that wood piece.long live creative people and the arts.
Incredible. So glad you chose to document your amazing sculptures. Hugely Calder, and just wonderful.
I don't have the words to express my amazement at your art. You sir, are a genius.
I never tire of watching people making things with incredible skill and precision :)
This is incredible. I never cease to be amazed at what the mind of man can conceive . And tha ability to see something so esoteric by the power of YT. Thankyou
Those pieces are just phenomenal. Excellent work, wish I could see it live.
Amazing!
WOW!!!! Words can't express the beauty and all the work put into this project
You sir are not allowed to be called a woodworker..... no a wood artist is more fitting or a wood magician! These pieces are spectacular!!
I simply don't have words to express my amazement and wonder about your work. I had chiken skin of emotion on how great and beautiful your ingenuity and skill transformed the wood into this amazing proof of the human genius and hability
It's funny but what amazes me the most is all your creative solutions for clamping the work while it dries.
That is quite a piece of work. Hours of planning and hours of work to produce a superb sculpture.
Thanks
Wow Malcolm - incredible vision and the passion to see this through. It's truly amazing and I wish I could see it with my own eyes.
This is amazing. Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry you lost this work. And i hope you keep making amazing things. So beautiful.
FANTASTIC! so much talent and creativity...well done...really want to go to the Burning Man festival now!
This is the most amazing thing I've seen in a long time. Thanks for contributing your art to the world.
A beautiful and painstaking effort. A good story. It's the journey.. not the destination. Sad the end results, but you still made it.. and made it there. Keep moving forward. Keep doing what you do so well.
This is probably the best woodworking and dedication I've seen on RUclips
Superb work ! I can feel all the love invested in your masterpiece. Congratulations ! Wonderful !
Fantastic creations my friend!
I doff my cap in your direction.
Thank you for sharing this amazing story of an AMAZING creation.
It's this kind of human endeavor which demonstrates just how fantastic people can be. Loved the video, blown away by the work, and now, not sure if I can watch part 2.
Ok Malcolm-You win! Man, I have a new appreciation for this project. What an awesome achievement. Thanks for the video-what fun!
Thanks Robin, you're pretty inspirational yourself.
From one creator to another, this is awesome on an industrial scale... with skill and the passion to fuel it. Beautiful. 👍🏼✌🏼
Really enjoyed the filming of your labor of love, you are a true Master of Wood .

I am a woodworker and I cannot even imagine starting a project like this. With all the saw cuts and glue up alone I would be overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing.
The real genius here is your ingenuity with clamping! Incredible work, you're competing on a different level.
Those are absolutely amazing, beautifully designed and I can tell you put your heart and soul into creating beautiful art. Thank you for sharing
What an impressive work. Astonishing, thanks for sharing this beautiful piece and making of!
As I watched and wondered, I realised there were many hours put into this, but an actual years work for one person. On your own it would be nigh impossible!! Stunning to look at. I'm a wood man who uses words for building ideas.
Wow! Unbelievable! I almost cried watching this! Incredible work!
Malcolm, you continue to be THE amazing artist in wood, I have enjoyed your work for years.
Your art and skill is amazing - your a true master craftsman. Thank you for sharing this video. I have never been to Burning-man, but at least I got to see your art. I did watch the other video and I am sorry that happened to you.
