Aretha did so much fantastic stuff for Atlantic but this is the one Columbia track that tops the lot. Simply sublime.
We all have our favourite Aretha tracks. This is mine. What a vocal on this. Simply awesome.
Simply beautiful, Aretha at her best, beautiful arrangement. They don't make them like this no more. I love her music takes me back to when i was a youngin. :)
One of my favorites of Aretha. I first heard it during her Queen of Soul years in the 60s. It was the B-side of one her hits on 45 rpm, the year was circa 1966. This track didn't get any play time on the air then, but it became my personal fav. Van McCoy (1940-1979) wrote this song.
TODAYS MUSIC CAN NOT, WILL NOT TOUCH THIS MUSIC!!! THIS IS TRUE SOUL!!!! THIS NOT OLD SCHOOL THIS IS TRUE SCHOOL!!! THIS MUSIC IS THE LIFE THE MOST INNER DEPTH OF THE SOUL SOUL SOUL, THIS IS A WHITE MAN COMMENTING, THE MUSIC TODAY CAN NOT TOUCH THIS!!!
Embarrassing confession: my sisters and I used to make fun of this song in the ‘60’s when we were little (I was about 8). It was on an album of various artists including Tommy Rowe, The Archie’s and Bobby Sherman. Yeah, very white, as were we. When this song came on we’d laugh like crazy as we pretended to sing into microphones and sound black like Aretha. We grew up outside of Chicago and my mom tried to shelter us from the bigotry around us, but there was only so much she could do. I always secretly liked this song. It’s the only song from that album that’s on my playlist. I love it every time I hear it. The lyrics and Aretha’s delivery are so great
Today, our Magic Dream, Miss Aretha Franklin, lost her battle with cancer. There will never be another Aretha. The angels are truly rejoicing!
She recorded this twice but this is my favorite version of this song.😊
Wouldn't trade this for another version this is like heaven and the angels singing so superb what a magical voice she has
The best vocalist ever. You go Re Re!
Heavenly, enchanting, deep soul from the heart,
Okay, now I am just a pile of tears. If this song does not make you think, or cry, you are made of stone and I feel for you.
Sweet sweet...❤
Sweet!
Aaaahhh, My all-time favorite Aretha Franklin song. I can’t even tell you how many nights I sat alone with this record and a bottle of wine, crying my eyes out. Fast-forward 25 years, and the guy I was crying over is my husband, & he’s snoring next to me as I write this. 🥰
Such an evocative piece. I was in my early teens when it would take me away long before Roberta Flack was killed softly. Wherever I was it paused me and cuddled me sweet and slow for the most dreamy journey. A true heartfelt classic from an inspired vocalist. PWG
She was the Epitome Of Classy Soul there wont be another .R.I.P. Aretha Franklin.
Such a beautiful song! This is, along with Prove It, my all time favorite Aretha song. Brings back so many memories of my college days in the '60s. Pure magic!
She sent me packing while I was away in Air Force and Aretha’s Sweet Bitter Live haunted me for years.
The Queen of soul Miss Aretha Franklin no one sing this as beautiful as she does this is what I called sweet music
