Aretha does not sound ignorant on here….and I’m a well educated person. I cannot imagine what was heard to deem her as “ignorant.” She speaks eloquently and she’s rather private and guarded regarding her responses; that’s to be respected. She definitely got it right regarding “a black President one day.” Again, no ignorance is present in this interview.

Anyone can be ignorant on a subject. I’ve never heard someone say Aretha wasn’t intelligent.

The duet between her and Whitney was “it isn’t, it wasn’t, it ain’t never gonna be” which is from the late 80s and they literally just put it on this album. Whitney wasn’t having any issues on that track lol

I wish she gave more details.
      Whitney adored her.
And she couldn't outsing Whitney, so what was the problem? Respectfully

Aretha's interest in classical music and ambition to be an opera singer is an indication of her musical intellect. She recognized the beauty and artistry of opera and classical music which many of her peers dismissed. In her younger days, she could have been one of the world's great sopranos, but we would have been left without all those wonderful songs and albums. Aretha is a national treasure.

It wasn't discussed in this interview, but Aretha had been stiffed by promoters early in her career so she started to demand cash payments. This continued to the end of her life. She would literally stuff tens of thousands of $ into her purse!

I had no idea Aretha was a big fan of Eric Braeden. He was one of the best guest stars on the Mary Tyler Moore show. He played an acidic critic.

I love the way the interviewer made Aretha feel like they were just having a conversation like two girlfriends. Aretha was just relaxed and very open about her family and I loved that.

She only praised her in every other question… and asked the same question that Aretha allowed since the day of time… that’s the sad part. Same story every interview until after she died

It’s true. Aretha pretty much gave the same interview for decades. She always talked to Jet magazine because she could paint a rosy picture every time she spoke to them. You are right, it was sad. She always tried so hard to make it like everything in her life was perfect.

I didn't get arrogance, I got determined and controlling of the things that mattered to her. It may have been the time she came up in. Just think about the music industry for blacks and as well as being a woman.
