That's right, it's time to cut some holes in the boat... not the through hulls yet for things like the marine diesel engine, but a wire chase for the Garmin navigation equipment, a place for the aft ventilator cowl to pass through, and a dead light for over the galley sink.
There's continuing progress on the fore hatch, the 'midship skylight, pitch scraping on the boat deck and some melting to waterproof the deck... and of course all the little bits and bobs and parts for the boat interior are getting thorough sanding. We could probably have a whole separate channel that just covers sanding. Maybe we've sanded away a boat's worth of wood.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

You've done a wonderful job editing! Love your voice and videos 💯. Only one small thing though, you keep missing an extra half hour somehow each episode 🤷♂️ 😊.
Great episode! Congrats Ben on the milestone, your work both with the editing, music and narration have been a huge part of why I watch every Friday! Can’t imagine how much work recording the original music is on top of everything else
Can't help but wonder if, at the beginning, Steve could have envisioned such a cadre of help. A tribute to a great fan base, mightily gathered by such engaging videography.
............G'day from Cairns,
23:57 goes past in a flash; four years has been nothing at all. At 81 now I watch each video multiple times not wishing to miss anything. This project from the very start has been such a labour of love. From the selection of trees on the family property to pieces saved from Acorn, Arabella is a fine and beautiful vessel bringing skills of the past into the present, absorbing modern technology along the journey. Shellac, fiberglass, tar, epoxy, sealers, and satellite navigation with sails.
Sending love, admiration, thanks and best wishes,
Malcolm.
Hello Malcolm,
Thanks for your note! We’re so glad you’re out there watching-it’s notes like yours that really fuel our fire. Cheers to you!
Anne
Anyone who has ever edited video knows how time-consuming and painstaking it is. Anne provides you with quality footage, but your editing and music bring this effort to life, Ben.
Adin and Steve do a great job with footage more than I do these days, and thanks! -Anne
I've missed your progress and serenity ❤️ Thank you Team Arabella
A2A has been a wondrous project to connect a community of workers, donors, and volunteers from across the globe. May she live long and prosper.
Thank you, Joseph!
Oh I'm here for the duration. Keep making them and I'll watch them. I've been here from the start and I love all of everybody's work. Monumental.
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! Looks like a bunch of diligent/industrious beee working. Boat people respectively the boat community is obviously really something else! 2) Congrats Mr. Fundis, you did really, really well.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards, luck and health in particular. To all involved people of course.
Ben I love your narration and your music. Yes please to 200 more.
enjoyed Adin being the on site PPE manager this episode 🤣
Happy Friday everyone!!.
Happy Friday!!
Ben and Anne - You both do great work behind the scenes to put things on the screen! Keep it up. This channel has so many fans because of YOUR work too!
Oh shucks, you’ve made our day. Thank you! -Anne

Thank you for sharing. 4 years and 200 episodes. Congratulations.🙂🙂
Ben, as I've told you before, your music is what separates Arabella from everyday channels. I've looked forward to it week-after-week, year-after-year. Your editing skills are top notch! Your musical output is sublime! And if I can hang, I'm up for another 20. I'm 67 now. Peace
Thank you very much! That’s so kind.
I enjoy the style you bring to the videos, Ben! Great to see this team bringing the project together!
I like the timing of your posts lately.
Thank You Ben for these last 200 videos - Yes, make some more please :)...
Ditto, love it all, especially the wonderful music Ben! 🍾❤️
Hey Ben, I will be here waiting for the 200 upcoming episodes! Thanks so much for sharing your art with us.
I remember when you came onboard, Ben. You have been a valuable asset to a tremendous crew! 200 more, please.
Quality editing has certainly contributed a large amount to the success of the channel. Good on you!
Hey Ben, Thank you so much for your narrative-building for all these episodes. Your work has been such a gift to me. Thanks to everyone else as well, of course.
Oh it’s Ben’s day in the sun for sure! 🏆
This episode flew by! Seemed 5 minutes long. Thank you!
Thank YOU!
Love the energy in the boat shed and the progress many hands can make 😊.
We do too!
Missed seeing a clever job title for Steve this AM. As usual, the A2A crew did great work. I've been following since trees were harvested and have yet to be disappointed. Thanks!
always get a kick out of his title of the week
I propose “His Hole-liness.”😊
Happy Friday Bill! We’ll have one for ya next week l, thank you so much for being here every week. 🙌
Good morning A2A crew. What a great way to start this Friday. Always a pleasure to watch. Take care guys.
Happy Friday, Tom!
Bravo for you, the Invisible, mellow toned, Ben.
Nice job Ben, your editing is flawless and always enjoyable in the way your portray the build, and of course with your original music. Sorry for the delay, I am on catch-up.
😊👋
I'll see your two Hundred and raise you two Hundred more! Your work is Not going unnoticed.
A well earned salute to all trades working on Arabella. A fine body of crafts-people indeed. It seems to be galloping along now. Well done to videographer, sounds and editor. Great video. My Friday is done. Good night chaps and chapettes from across the pond in Scotland
I’m definitely down for another 200, I’m blown away by the craftsmanship that goes into this beautiful boat and the skill and effort involved in the production of your videos. Can’t wait for her to be in the water as you begin the next phase of this amazing adventure.
Thank you, that’s very kind!
Good morning Akiva 😸 and Crew 😸😺 / Congrats at doing 200 episodes Ben ! 🔥⚒🎆🎉 and yes to your commitment for the
next 200 more !! 🎉😸😺
Happy Friday!
Thank you Ben! I have appreciated your work from the start. Looking forward to the next 200! Cheers, Toby
Can't believe it's been 4 years! Congratulations and long may you continue!
Hey congratulations on the 2 years. I remember when you first started. You just bought a theater. How'd that turn out.? I'm sure awesome. I'm sure you put as much care and attention into your own projects. Great job. Great video.!
The theater is doing great. www.newburyportmovies.com
Hello for Boston. The days are counting down!! Great work Steve and crew.
Hiya Bill!
Can't believe it's been 4 years since you strated Ben. Great work nice to have an editor who seems part of the on-screen crew
Congrats on 200 Ben, I hope for 200 more too. Great work!
It really warms my heart to see so many volunteers coming to help you out, just go’s to show good people still exist even in these troubled times, if only I lived in the US being retired I would join you in a heartbeat 👍
The times aren’t troubled by the many, Steven. Thanks for watching!
@@AcornToArabella That's a comforting observation. Thanks.
Thanks for the editing and narration, Ben! Hoping that KP is getting better. We’re missing their shining face! 😊
Keep them coming, Ben. Great job, as always. Good to see so many passionate people helping on the boat, too.
This was great! With Steve managing so many volunteers who pitched in their time to get some of that work done! And Ben Fundis, thank you for your style in putting this video work together. It really is a work of art, not just educational, but in journalling the progress being done in the building process of the Acorn to Arabella.
Thank you! That’s very kind.
Hey Ben - Just wanted to say I think your efforts in the editing are a big part of the enjoyment I get from watching these videos. Your interludes and choice of music are brilliant! That's not to say the camera work and the subject are any less, but you tie it all together wonderfully! I'm down for 200 more 😊
Thank you for these thoughtful compliments!
it's been unreal the change and progress I've see happen over 7 years. From 2 guys, a dream and pappy's trees, to a paid staff and a nearly finished boat. It's awesome watching something like this coming to fruition rather than petering out and going silent.
Thank you!
Steve, it is nice to see so many eager volunteers in the boathouse.
Appreciate your work Ben, congratulations on 200 episodes.
The video production value of Acorn to Arabella is simply top notch.
High praise! Thank you.
Wow time flies, congratulations Ben. It’s been a great fit and you bring so much more to the table besides just editing, the music is first class and narration it on point. Thanks for tying the story together for us each week.
Ben
You have been a great addition to the team from the beginning. Also your music is just right, there but not intrusive. Cheers for 2 more years!
So kind of you, Bud, thanks!
Arabella is coming at great pace all down to your organisation Steve and Ben's filming and editing is brilliant
Thank you Editor! 🙏🙏🙏
Congratulations, Ben! I've been a fan of your commentary and your music, not to mention your editing skill. I've been watching from the very beginning, and one of my favorite aspects of the project has been how it has grown a community. It started out to be about a couple of guys making a boat. Now it's so much more than that...this episode in particular did a great job of shining the light on that community.
Very appropriate morning dew-esque music for the port light bedding- nothing keeps the dew out like butyl tape and total boat! Great vid, many thanks
True story!
So so great to see so many volunteers sharing our collective dream. Thought to myself: so many strangers, then thought again, no, they are just our extended family extended family! Mike 🇦🇺
Yessir, what a nice way of thinking about it.
Ben, your editing (and especially your sound design) are an absolute delight and bring me such joy in watching the Arabella Boathouse's progress. Congratulations on the anniversary, and I hope to enjoy more of your contributions!
And of course thanks to all the Arabella team - seen or unseen - it's still so enjoyable to see boat being built week by week.
Thanks for the edits. Definitely down for 200 more
Ben, I have edited thousands of hours of of video so I know what sort of time and creativity it takes to make a 30 minute video. You do a really great job not only with the video, but with the voice-overs. Keep up the great work. I look forward every week to seeing your work and the work done on the boat! Congratulations on reaching 200 episodes!!
Thank you, Dean!
Ben, your editing and music are what make this such a highlight of the week.
That’s so kind Zack, thank you.
So glad to join all on episode 200…. Can not believe it has been 4 years. I can still see the fires melting the lead for Arabella’s Keel. 😊
Thx Ben. 200 more please. I really enjoy seeing the progress and all the eager volunteers. Each project like this is a joy to see and helps us all appreciate the drive and skills it takes to achieve the end goal. BZ guys.
Very much enjoyed your 200 video's here in Holland!
Ben. It's been a pleasure to have seen your work and hearing your voice.
You may not be on camera cutting and sanding wood, but you're still an important member of the crew. 🙂👍
thanks ben and some really cool volunteers aswell.
Beautiful, professional editing, and great music to boot.
We’re so grateful and lucky to have him! -Anne
Great job Ben! We really appreciate your hard work! DD
Not sure if I missed something, but where is KP?
BTW the point you're at right now is a treat for viewers! So much happiness per episode now! So good!
KP is recovering from long Covid. Thanks for checking in!
Happy Friday morn from Victoria BC to Arabella crew. Thank you for showing us the involvement of the volunteers. Great to see such support. These are exciting videos to watch with all that's going on at once. Special shootout to Ben... great episode!
Happy Friday!
Congrats on the 200th for you. Certainly wouldn't have been the same without that work. Very well done. Will follow happily. Thanks
Wondering about KP, I miss watching her Boatwrighting. Enjoyed the well put together video. Thank you.
Still recuperating, thanks for asking!
Gosh it is looking great
Ben , I and I'm sure many, many others, love your work. It is an art and you are a master. 👌👌
That’s very kind, thank you.
Great progress! So nice to see the beautiful deck again! I'm starting to believe the splash date!
We appreciate your editing and voice over work immensely, Ben! I don’t know whether it will take another 200 episodes before Arabella is launched though. Keep up your excellent work!
Happy Friday(waiting for lunch,) as usual in good old Normandy...Looking GREAT....richard
Happy Friday, Richard!
Good Morning Granby!⛵️👍✌️
Happy Friday, Mel!
Greetings from Sunny Queensland Australia, great job Ben, we are all looking for more and more and more. Keep up the great work you are all doing. Looking foreword to next Friday.
Coming home after a long week of work, and watching the latest episode og Arabella. 👍
🙌
Many thnx Ben! You are doing a great job, lets go for the next 200 at least.
The boat is looking great I like the trick of using the deck fill on the cabin side of a dorade box, great idea!
🙌
Many hands are working with skill to meet the nearing put-in. So many bits and pieces being brought to near-finish. What a way to spend Friday mornings - and hoping they can continue even as Steve and crew take to their global exploration and adventures. And Ben - Congrats on the 200th - your work and the musical backgrounds have made so much difference its hard to express. Yeah - 200 more would work, with 200-episode options to follow. Happy St Paddy's Day to all.
We’ll keep making videos after launch, no worries there.
Really great to see all the finishing work being done! Wish I could be there to help. :-( Congrats Ben on your milestone! You're an amazing videographer and calming voice. Cheers!
You help in many ways! Thanks so much! -Anne
Four Years?!?! Where did that time go? You definitely bring a lot to the project Ben. Good on you.
Thank you, Doug!
Ben, thanks you do a great job, I like your narration!
Ben, stellar job on the editing. Both visual, and audio. Getting clear speech out of a noisy workshop can be a challenge. You tackle it well.
Unrelated, I have yet to see KP return. I hope they're still on the mend. Its been several weeks since they got sick.
Hi Nathan! We had KP join us last Friday for our monthly Livestream. Progress toward healing is very slow, and it’s hard for them to keep up energy or breathe after short walks. Thanks for asking, we miss them!
Thanks for mentioning the special challenge of tool noise and good sound for video! It’s a real struggle! -Anne
So excited to see this beauty in the water!
Ben, I’m totally down for another 200 eps if you’re at the wheel! Thanks for the great work you do.
Thanks Ben for the great job you have done on editing AtoA.
Evening from Sydney, I'm not normally up this late to watch on a Friday night but great to see the hive of activity. Hope KP is doing well.
Now, what am I going to watch over breakfast tomorrow?
The Art of Boat Building! Restoring Rosalind! Ship Happens! 😁
Excellent job, Ben!
Lol love all the little moments of the younger workers offering PPE to the senior workers. Handled very well on both sides for the choice offered and the decline.😂
Steve must know that this is one of the best edited shows on the Tube. I'm down for 200 more too - he should be in the tropics by then, or maybe the Med!
Thank you!
Kudos to your safety officer. Going around making sure every has the needed safety supplies, knee pads for the bionic man, gloves for the grinder (almost done) and respirator for tar. Safety equipment available and offered, all you can do as a safety officer.
We do try to be encouraging, that’s for sure. Sometimes all someone needs is a reminder.
Outstanding body of work Ben. Keep on!
I wanna know more about the Amistad and the history surrounding her. That sounds fascinating.
Here’s the website, and also, not sure where you’re at in the world but they’re having a Juneteenth celebration at Mystic Seaport on June 18, the second day of our launch party and not far from Mattapoisett.
I’ve crewed on her (just a couple of days filling in when crew was short) and she’s a great boat! www.discoveringamistad.org
-Anne
@@AcornToArabella Thanks for posting that website link, Ben, and thank you for editing out most of my prattling.
Beautiful job as usual Ben. A good editor is often unseen and unheard, at least we can hear your wonderful music and calm narration, brilliant. Best wishes on recovery to KP, I am sure they are very frustrated to not be in there 100% but excited to see the progress. The challenge with slews of volunteers is that someone has to manage them, which I am sure Steve does so well, but it also sucks his time away from cutting holes in the boat (as a boat owner doing that or diving them onto the hydraulic trailer is the most counter-intuitive and nerve wracking thing).
Indeed, on all fronts! KP is super frustrated to not be in the shop, but we hope you caught the Live from the Boat Shed last week on Patreon-they stopped by to be a part of it.
Looks like 117 days to launch is really 91 days to launch and 74 days to transport as of today. I imagine lots more is as actually done in the 26 day difference, then wala it's ready. So much to be done! Good luck!
Yup!
