I'm working on being a owner operator, so all the stuff you're fixing really helps me so I know what to look for when I buy a pete. Awesome videos! I've been watching since the beginning
Also make sure you put a cage bolts back so you have them for the future. Idk how many times if went to help someone and they don’t have cage bolts on the truck at all
It was good to met you at UCC/ODR21 this past weekend. I was left stranded on my trip home as well, mine was a little more catastrophic. I drove my race vehicle to/from event hoping to not have any issues. About 90 miles from home the engine decided it had enough and crank broke (yeah it's a stock bottom-end duramax). Time to build bottom-end to handle 7.70 index class. See you at next event.
Just had the same thing happen going down the road in Idaho. The dump valve over the front drive axle divided to stick open and had to replace it on the side of the road in my Pete
Tip check the wheel seals and brake shoes for cracking boss. they don’t like the heat and with them smoking like that big possibility there glazed over and cracked even after driving it home.
A good tip to remember when you're using your semi of course you know the brakes are powered off of air if you hear a pop and start losing air you better pull over because the brakes will lock up or you'll burn them up
When you're on the side of the road like that, keep your head on a swivel and don't worry about vlogging. Idiots on their phones kill more and more stopped motorists and wrecker operators every year. Don't be one of em.
Stuff like that is expected to happen on a shakedown run. You should get one of those actuator setups for the front bumper where you can flip it up and down when needed.
Anti-compounding quick release valve . Remove large fastener on valve ,you will find a small hole in the diaphragm .Cut rubber from an inner tube for quick temporary repair ,
The turn signals is not the truck. You need an adapter to run the lights on the trailer. Go to a major RV center and they will show you the $100 adapter relay box.
Greg has two trucks on a trailer and another in a trailer and another attached to said trailer, yet he still has a spare 600+ horse truck to run down to the parts house!
@@twintibbsdiesel93 oh man, I didn't mean anything negative by it. I was meaning it as a compliment. I completely agree, he has earned what he has. I've been watching him since the channel only had 2 trucks and it's been so great to watch him get himself here.
I had that same valve go out on me 300 miles from any shop except mine was leaking all the air so i had back the brakes off and just have trailer and steer axle brakes
When I first started driving, just over 45 years ago. My first truck was a 1959 B-61 Mack with over a million miles on it when I got in it. Owner told me it had a rep of being a poor man's truck because it NEVER broke down and left a man stranded on the road ...
Vice grips or duck tape or tire tar and sliver of wood got my boss 6 drops in so cal to middle of Utah home repair shop, when his air line broke on his seat.
anyone else see the trailer drive by in the background at 1:47, I've never seen a trailer with a wheel setup like that until now it's weird and I laughed that I caught it randomly.
Maybe you've mentioned it before but why did you install a gooseneck on that truck instead of putting an adapter on your trailer to run off the 5th wheel plate on the Tractor.
Clearance would be tight when turning between trailer and back wheels. Also makes more sense thst having to swap the pin hitch to gooseneck hitch on the trailer when he wants to pull with a pickup
@@glennrobichaux7490 with a good sliding 5th wheel there wouldnt be any clearance issue and I'm talking that they make an adapter literally is just a ball on one side to go in th eff trailer and plate with king pin on the other so wouldnt have to convert the trailer back each time. Personally I think it would just look cleaner. The truck itself is pretty clean with a janky tow setup on the back.
Try restoring a truck like yours and doing over the road work at the same time 😆 I rebuilt a western star and also run it 600-700 miles a day when I’m working half the year. The other half I’m working on it. U need a big wallet a lot of tools, spare parts and a whole lot of mech skill to keep u going sometimes.
looks like an anti compounding valve. that valve keeps air pressure from going to the service side of the brakes when the emergency/parking side is active. if not for that valve you would run the risk of damaging slacks, cams, shoes, drums.
Anti compounding is built in to most spring brake relay and service brake relays since the early nineties, just sayin. Yes, the crossover line helps avoid it, but it’s not an Inversion/Bobtail/AntiCompound valve. Thank god for updates to air system components over the years.
Probably less bumper and air ride from you when did the air ride front end try to set it up to where when you dump the air out of the front you can come to air out the back to same time
You need one of those pnumatic swing up bumpers and a rear steer axel so mike or alley can walk you around stupid corners like that's would make it turn like a 35' trailer
To fix the bumper put a chain on to bottom corner pull it tight don’t pull the bumper then stand on the chain so you don’t over pull the bumper I’ve had to do that to mine lots
Told ya lol looks are the last thing you should be worrying about when you have a cat powered truck, brakes n air are one of the same in any semi, bleed air lines bro n check s clamps . . . Thought you would have gone over all the air lines as most of us semi drivers do, regularly
He ain’t no truck driver though. If he was using it for a career you better bet he would go top to bottom. And the lines are fine it’s The valve seals. And I’ll bet you $1000 you don’t check your air lines regularly 😂 and that your truck airs all the way down over night 😆 you might check them if you hear air but that’s it.
Just saying you might want to test drive it because you may have messed the seal up when y’all heated the yolk up to get the nut off. Just saying because I had it happen to me and I didn’t find mine out until I was on the road and I had to let a truck stop shop fix it
Yes sir it works every time. I always make sure they have their caging bolts on them vs carrying them in the truck. Hopefully he put them back and didn’t pay them down somewhere 😂
@@kylesonsalla7620 if you maintain your truck and keep it clean your fine. Awesome Video as always Reason for the problems was because of those two Dodge Truck's on the trailer LOL 😂😂😂 Glad everything worked out...
"why arent you using your blinker" greg -"sorry im from new jersey" LMAO
You can get a front bumper that lifts up with air rams you see it a lot on the custom bull haulers
Tip check the wheel seals and brake shoes for cracking boss. they don’t like the heat and with them smoking like that big possibility there glazed over and cracked even after driving it home.
Yes a lift bumper kit would really help out since you changed to low pro 22 on the steer axle

Bummer, but dang she looks good rollin down the road!! Clean 🤟😎
Get a push bumper kit. It pushes the bumper forward and then lifts the bumper up usually lower trucks have em but they come in handy
Check turn signal relay first my pete wouldn't signal to the right and ended up being a relay
I always carry vice grips in my pocket . Never know when you need them on the farm or on the road.
When you're on the side of the road like that, keep your head on a swivel and don't worry about vlogging. Idiots on their phones kill more and more stopped motorists and wrecker operators every year. Don't be one of em.
You need to get your bumper mounted on air pistons to lift it on demand when you think it may hit drives, speed humps ect
Nice to finally find your RUclips channel!! I live down the road from you. Love the content!
What about LED flasher relay since adding the new LED lights? May not have enough load on the circuit. Do the 4 ways work?
Semis already use an electromechanical relay and don't rely on load. That's what these companies sell as an "led" relay
Stuff like that is expected to happen on a shakedown run. You should get one of those actuator setups for the front bumper where you can flip it up and down when needed.

With old trucks you definitely want to keep those vise grips and zip ties handy they have got me home more than once
I had that same valve go out on me 300 miles from any shop except mine was leaking all the air so i had back the brakes off and just have trailer and steer axle brakes
Leave the driveway the way it is, just buy a bumper lift kit or a bumper tilt kit and that will save you money on buying bumpers
BTW one bad chamber will back feed into that valve.. that valve is probably good and it’s just a bad brake chamber. $75 at loves.
When you don’t drive for a living and you want a long nose and you wang the bumper first time out with a trailer 😂
LMFAO 😂😂 Exactly!!
And disabled the brakes on all the drive axles and took it down the road....🤦♂️

Vice grips or duck tape or tire tar and sliver of wood got my boss 6 drops in so cal to middle of Utah home repair shop, when his air line broke on his seat.
Same valve went out on mine first week after I bought it
Hey Greg you could put the bumper on a airlift were you could flip a switch an the bumper would raise up
SEMI= spend extra money immediately
😂😂😂😂
Dang glad it wasn't any worse. Seems like fairly easy fixes
Use a block of 4x4 and use your power steering to push the bumper out. Just sayin'. Been there.
Greg definitely got his right arm against the hot stack
need to get a flip up bumper, all our haul trucks have them on an air switch in the cab
Look into a flip up bumper. The work great for lowered trucks.

Those are usually guys that haul heavy loads of steel. Now that you seen that one you’ll notice them more when you drive on the highway.
So what's on your spare parts list for the next Journey not a bad idea to keep a few extra parts in the truck for these breakdowns
Front Drive , rear drive , steering axle are the terminology I believe you were searching for . 👍👍❤️
Going to swap out the dash panel and get rid of the old auto shift control box?

There was a car hauler with purple truck on celery’s channel that has an actuator on his front bumper and can raise it for clearance. From inside cab.
He knows about them but wasn't sure on getting it. Bites him in the butt
You’re doing great love the video. A great attitude even though the truck is giving you fits.
They make a bumper lift kit thing Greg. The guys at SEMI Casual can get that for you.

Your signal stat. Atleast you made it back home boss!
Why not slide the 5th wheel all the way back and get a kingpin adapter for the gooseneck?
Where did you get the dash kit for the 08?
First!! Damn man sorry to hear about the bad luck!
I’ve seen that valve go bad on some other drivers and they keep one in the truck for just such an occasion like what happened to you!!!!
Get the air lift for the bumper it will lift it so the bumper can’t get bent

Damm about a couple of minutes after posting about the front bumper you comment you need to get one 😂😂
King of the anti seize didn’t put any on the half rounds?
How far did you get out of Pittsboro before breaking down?
Yes, hooking to the forklift is how the professionals do it when it comes to making bumpers straight.
Just Keep On Truckin
You should make the bumper raise up for your driveway
Aw yeah Vice Grip Garage!!
Forklift and tow strap some guys use for wheelers and gators😁
Watching your channel makes me feel better about just owning 3 trucks. Lol.
Tell me about it.
Get a flip up bumper for the semi.
You need a step up bumper that a flip of a switch move the bump up a little so you don’t bend it
Get a bumper flip kit it will save your bumper alot any chrome shop will have them
What pliers are those
Peterbilt is mad that you made it pull a hot shot trailer. Big truck needs a big trailer. lol
I hope this brake is ok now this is a nightmare.
Buy an extra Air Valve and put it in the cab box....those things will have ya stuck like chuck..lol.
That’s your quick release valve. 35 bucks or so, always keep a spare. They stop out of no where.
I would probably have new wheel seals on hand. They don't hold up so well after being cooked.
At least you know them brakes are bedded in Good 😂
The Macgiver Mike! Thanxs!
Glad they weren't to bad of problems to fix
Great video Greg 🤝💪🏼
The brakes are smoking because you were driving on them while they were locked up because they set when there's no air pressure.
how bout a flip up front bumper as well on the Pete?
