Sorry, I must tell you that, though you may be right about where you are, there are other territories around the world that still use CDs, and vinyl is rising in popularity and sales, streaming is more popular than downloads. Great advice here though, thank you so much!
A little tip for storing your external hard drive. Buy yourself a Military grade hard drive case they are IP65 rated and shockproof so are resistant to water dust and rough handeling or accidental knocks.
I tend to disagree with you on records for the working dj on gigs probably not but for me it's actually fun looking in your crate for the next tune....
Devanand Magram i agree, it's a lost art form. 95% of these so called DJ's couldn't mix without a sync button. All of this knob twisting is fucking hilarious to me.....lol
Thanks for sharing your information. I take two of the exact same laptops with me each time, but setup the exact same, with cloned hard drives. As for system sounds yes, disable the system sounds.
In regards to system sounds, it pays to make a new user DJ specifically for the DJ task. That user has no applications load such as Skype and can have the screen saver set to off, etc. In my case, I have a dedicated computer for the event setup just for gigs. General purpose computer use is on another machine. Highly recommend a USB sound card just for the DJ software, so if any systems sounds happen, they are not on the PA. 2nd the SSD suggestions and a backup. For mission critical gigs, a backup player is highly recommended.
Excellent info. I just bought a 2014 MacBook Pro 15 inch with 512 GB SSD and 16 G of Memory. do you think is good enough to run Serato software? Thanks
Thanks joe always good to have a backup plan. however when you go from a cordless mic to a 3prong cable mic don't u have to ajust your sound. or did you already pre program your a channel on your board.
Awesome video, I just purchased a new Dell.. I only use it for Dj'ing... No social media. Nothing..how do I optimize my laptop to ensure it runs smoothly, also what was the name of that external HD you mentioned in the video...thanks again, sir
using an SSD or a spinning drive will have no beneficial impact on loading an MP3 file. the main difference will be in data write and data transfer on large files .. unless your mixing with flac or wav I wouldnt worry about using an SSD to get your music to "load" faster.
Hey do you store all your music on your external hard drive and not your computer, how do you pair the music form the hard drive to the software and what’s the the difference between the external hard drive and a SSD
I want to ask, do you use the Rekordbox software to use a MacBook laptop? what if we use a windows 7 lectop, is it SUPPORT with the DDJ-400 controller?
Its the Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt adapter. I don't believe they are sold anymore but you can still find them online. Also more thunderbolt enclosueres are now available than at the time I bought this one
Best to keep them separate for the screen space but if you have a laptop with over 6 gigs ram you should be fine. I have a 12 gig rom PC and it runs perfectly fine with multiple software running.
Can you make a video teaching how to control your lights and sound at the same time..... i am not talking about using 2 screens i am talking about how to do everything....
Good video ssd are coming down in price but your whole cd collection will not fit on an SSD as of 2018 unless it is a tiny collection of music or videos. SSDs are alot more expensive and more durable than regular rotating hard drives. I would suggest only putting small collections of music on a SSD. Store all your music on a regular HDD and make backup copies at least 2 minimum.
I need help, I'm using a windows laptop and I want to switch to a mac, I use an external hard drive with my music on for my laptop now, would it work if I plug that external hard drive to a mac?
with the Mac book pro your good on running Serato or traktor or Rekord box or virtual D.J. however u do need to have a good solid machine that hasn't been too beat up. but otherwise for the most part the Mac book pro from like 2012 on up is undeniable as a good choice.. but with A P.C. it seems that as long as your using it ONLY AS A DEDICATED D.J. program laptop then your o.k. but wen u mix it for schoolwork or Facebook and lots of other stuff it's no longer reliable as a laptop platform it can get glichty or crash...
Love your tutorial but your comment about vinyl being dead is far from the truth...as the popularity of vinyl increases I now know of 3 nightclubs here in Los Angeles that only ALLOW VINYL DJ's to play at their venues....The days of being a Laptop DJ are numbered as far as hip and cool are concerned! But if you wanna be a geeky wedding DJ your safe.
It's awesome. I'm using for half a year now, it's very flexible, and you have all the songs you want through Spotify. Also DJay Pro software is using Spotify's proprietary search engine, applied to your hard drive, so you find songs super fast! (Ihave 173 G of music). WiFi is the future in the DJing world, so don't be afraid. Hope this helps. :-)
Vinyl is not dead only to those who think so yes people are using different ways as we know but to say vinyl is dead so far from the truth there is still a massive demand for vinyl djs that will never change vinyl is still being pressed at large quantities around the world vinyl will out live all of us.
You will have to buy, unless you are on signed to a label with other artists where they will have facilities to share music via a cloud drive. Also, avoid youtube rips. especially if you will be playing on big sound systems.
I dont play with laptop and I dont think to be a dj, I am an international dj and I play all over the world and for this reason I use a usb stick. I have been playing since the age of 14 and I am 54, so ....respect and learn..Have a good day.
Is there a video on how to set up your external hard for the first time to your serato controller if you don’t have any music in your computer only in the external hard drive
I dj with PC and it never goes to sleep when Serato is being use, no coffee app fort PC needed so hu!!!! I more of a visual then just bla bla bla bla what? lol
Currently I have about 4200 songs I keep in my MacBook Pro 512Gb Solid State drive. Besides being a backup of your music collection, what's the advantage of playing music from external drives than stored in the actual laptop? I'm starting to build my music video collection for vyaing, do you recommend music videos to be stored separately than MP3's in their own external drive?
If you can fit all your files on the internal drive I would allways go with that. No chance of your hard drive accidently being un pluged! Its only if your music and video library is so big that it needs to be stored externally that you might need a main external drive
Gone are the days of vinyl???????? 12 year old pre pubescent pimpled croaky voice claim... He thinks vinyl is a floor covering, or for covering cheap car seats.. Just about every club and bar I know (which is a few more than many) has turntables in their DJ booth and less space for laptops... I even know at least half a dozen that won't entertain laptop DJ's, only vinyl or CD.. Shame I retired 3 years ago or could be earning good money again..
I still enjoy CDs & vinyls...boring pressing sync button & watching a screen. Nothing like old school DJing had to work hard to get your gig perfect...New generation DJs are lazy as heck & spoiled rotten. Just my opinion. 😁!
Thomas Stewart I wish I had money to buy it and do a video but there are videos of this out there. But trust me. Use this XDJ-RX2. You can DJ with your harddgrive. Laptops are now backups and a way to download new songs on the spot via wifi.
Gone are the days of vinyl?? Not so much dude... Yeaaaa u guys aren't freakin djs. Anybody can press play. I'll stick to my wax and needles tyvm. Turntablism for life!
Kymie Ulik to call one self a DJ does one have to use Vinyl/Wax? Do they "need" to be a turn tablist? Hmm as far as I've known since I've been DJing since 1984 one does not!!! Just because someones style of DJing isnt yours or anyone elses doesn't make them any less of a DJ. Maybe less skilled in areas than others though. I do get it do not be able to simply beat match with out a DVS is kind of saying one is to damn lazy to learn the very basic skill of the craft in DJing alone.
Ive never used sync but woild love too. Some of the minimal techno needs seamless beatmatching. Im not good enought to get it spot on everytime. Expensive machines though
Storing your music library in the cloud on google drive or dropbox is a great backup if for some reason your drives get lost/broken etc.
Sorry, I must tell you that, though you may be right about where you are, there are other territories around the world that still use CDs, and vinyl is rising in popularity and sales, streaming is more popular than downloads. Great advice here though, thank you so much!
Streaming can still be risky, always download music just in case .
A little tip for storing your external hard drive. Buy yourself a Military grade hard drive case they are IP65 rated and shockproof so are resistant to water dust and rough handeling or accidental knocks.
Also at a minimum keep them in Ziploc bags when not using them to protect from liquids
I tend to disagree with you on records for the working dj on gigs probably not but for me it's actually fun looking in your crate for the next tune....

Great tips,Joe. Additional tips from me. Spear power supply, mouse. and spare laptop.
Excellent tips, Hey what MacBook you got? Model and year? just curious to know. thanks
Excellent info. I just bought a 2014 MacBook Pro 15 inch with 512 GB SSD and 16 G of Memory. do you think is good enough to run Serato software? Thanks
Did you have to purchase a PRO DUB LICENSE when you switched from CD's to converting to MP3?
Thanks joe always good to have a backup plan. however when you go from a cordless mic to a 3prong cable mic don't u have to ajust your sound. or did you already pre program your a channel on your board.

Hi, where did do buy that Thunderbolt enclosure from? 03:38 Thanks
using an SSD or a spinning drive will have no beneficial impact on loading an MP3 file. the main difference will be in data write and data transfer on large files .. unless your mixing with flac or wav I wouldnt worry about using an SSD to get your music to "load" faster.
would you not recommend having the music stored on your computer all the time i.e in iTunes?
is it possible to connect a dj controler to a computer/ pc? or is it a must for laptop?
Hey do you store all your music on your external hard drive and not your computer, how do you pair the music form the hard drive to the software and what’s the the difference between the external hard drive and a SSD
I want to ask, do you use the Rekordbox software to use a MacBook laptop? what if we use a windows 7 lectop, is it SUPPORT with the DDJ-400 controller?
What SSD caddy are you using. I can't find one with thunderbolt?? If you could link me it that would be great!
Its the Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt adapter. I don't believe they are sold anymore but you can still find them online. Also more thunderbolt enclosueres are now available than at the time I bought this one
Great talk, I started off spinning CD'S too, welcome aboard, I been djjing since 2010
Like the shirt...where did you get from
what laptop would you suggest for dmx lighting software and djing? or is it best to keep lighting software on a separate laptop..thanks.
Best to keep them separate for the screen space but if you have a laptop with over 6 gigs ram you should be fine. I have a 12 gig rom PC and it runs perfectly fine with multiple software running.
what is the technical name for that ssd adapter and where can I get one from?
do you think a setup with only an xdj-rx is more stable or better than a controller and laptop?
nacho martin on the moment the rx is very stable so I prefer to only use the rx instead of a laptop with the rx
Yeah, I have an rx and I've been on a 7 hour mix non stop with my rx and had no problems, despite laptop bigger screen they tend to be less stable
What is best laptop I should buy?
Can you make a video teaching how to control your lights and sound at the same time..... i am not talking about using 2 screens i am talking about how to do everything....

I need help, I'm using a windows laptop and I want to switch to a mac, I use an external hard drive with my music on for my laptop now, would it work if I plug that external hard drive to a mac?
I use a laptop dedicated to ,y DJ work only. At home I use a desktop machine for everything else.
U can dj threw a notebook hd long it has usb port right
Damn, I got out of cd's back in 2003 with OTS dj...

I'm pretty sure there are versions for PC. :)
Do you know what PC stands for?
Prehistoric Computer
Ed Glue and apple was eaten by eve
Eve? Is there a PC called Eve?
How do you get popups icon to stop on a mac
There's no such thing as deleted or obsolete versions of howling 2 DJ I just bought two CDs how much I go
with the Mac book pro your good on running Serato or traktor or Rekord box or virtual D.J. however u do need to have a good solid machine that hasn't been too beat up. but otherwise for the most part the Mac book pro from like 2012 on up is undeniable as a good choice.. but with A P.C. it seems that as long as your using it ONLY AS A DEDICATED D.J. program laptop then your o.k. but wen u mix it for schoolwork or Facebook and lots of other stuff it's no longer reliable as a laptop platform it can get glichty or crash...

what do you think about djay pro2 (the app with Spotify connection)?
It's awesome. I'm using for half a year now, it's very flexible, and you have all the songs you want through Spotify. do djs get free music or do you have to pay if it's free can you tell me where I want to get in to djing
Connor Williams sorry to say it is not free you have to pay like everyone else
Connor Williams Only if they pirate it. They are a user, just like everybody else.
I download from dj pools and buy the older stuff its not that expensive
Connor Williams invest in a Record pool bruh, they all ask where have u spun before though, mymp3pool.com, is a good pool
You will have to buy, unless you are on signed to a label with other artists where they will have facilities to share music via a cloud drive.
Also, avoid youtube rips. especially if you will be playing on big sound systems.
Vinyl mixing is not gone yet , if anything its making a come back

I converted my MAC BOOK PRO with a SSD HD
I have computer for my DJ program and music only. Nothing else is aloud.
This seems to only be for certain laptops, it doesn't seem to mention PCs at any stage. Could have put in the title to not waste my time
I have never seen a professional dj playing with a pc. Music is Mac.
Tony Bruno i actually DJ'd with records and cassettes so this music is mac shit made me laugh....everyone with a laptop thinks they're a dj lol
I dont play with laptop and I dont think to be a dj, I am an international dj and I play all over the world and for this reason I use a usb stick. I have been playing since the age of 14 and I am 54, so ....respect and learn..Have a good day.

Too expensive vilyn for just a few tunes
Mp3's....mp3's?????!!!!!!!!!!
Don't think he realises how shit mp3's sound V vinyl or wav/flac files..

Records are dead in the water 💀 real Djs use the sync button for perfect beat matching.
i havent used a hdd laptop for 5 years because of ssd
what do you use?
Gone are the days of vinyl???????? 12 year old pre pubescent pimpled croaky voice claim... He thinks vinyl is a floor covering, or for covering cheap car seats.. YOU DIDNT TEACH ME ANYTHING
Same here
Step #1. Don't use a laptop
MsTrailerGuy exactly!! get rekord box and a USB Stick. Then buy the XDJ-RX2. Done! no laptop needed!!
In you dream
Alexander Camarillo its true you dont need a laptop anymore to DJ. The laptop is now just a back up. Everything is done via the XDJ-RX2
Mac Joseph what is that? Do a video showing use.
Thomas Stewart I wish I had money to buy it and do a video but there are videos of this out there. But trust me. Use this XDJ-RX2. You can DJ with your harddgrive. Laptops are now backups and a way to download new songs on the spot via wifi.
Na guda naku
Gone are the days of vinyl?? Not so much dude... Yeaaaa u guys aren't freakin djs. Anybody can press play. I'll stick to my wax and needles tyvm. Turntablism for life!
Kymie Ulik Finally, someone who gets it👍🎧🎶

Why aren't you using virtual dj it's way batter then Traktor
lol.
Why not use Serato better interface then VDJ....
how to get down note
Marty Donohoe
Lmfao
virtual dj is for amateurs while traktor is for professionals. The best are Traktor and Rekordbox to play with usb on cdjs.
Worst advice ever...
