2012 15 inch MB PRO i7, 16gb ram. Removed optical drive (because who listens to CD’s anymore?! ) in its place installed 750gb hard drive to store just music and what ever else I need stored. Replace original hard with 1Tb SDD to run operating system, apps and such. I’ve had this set up for over 5 years and still running like a champ. Granted doesn’t have Retina display, but I can’t bring my self to selling it to upgrade to a newer MB.

Using Two dell latitude laptops with an extra hdmi mini monitor for video, I5 processors, both laptops have dual hard drives 1 sdd hard drive for the operating system, (windows7 64 bit, (not a fan of windows10 yet)) and the other is a 500gb mechanical hard drive for storage, Virtual DJ (yep im one of those VDJ guys, I do a lot of Karaoke) 8gb of ram, I backup everything on a 500gb external hard drive works flawless never had any issues as yet. I like solid state hard drives for my operating systems because they have no moving parts and are blazing fast!

I like your RAM vs HD analogy. I usually tell people your RAM is where files are temporarily sitting on top of your desk while you work on it, and HD is your filing cabinet where your files are stored/saved permanently.

A lot of people have been commenting saying the new AMDs work and are great but the problem is the DJ program people don't write the programs supporting these processors and won't help you if you have issues because they don't recommend using AMD. So for me I wouldn't take the risk but maybe talk to someone here in the comments who uses it and they can help better. Screen size is personal preference. I like small screens some people like big. The problem you were having has to do with your actual display settings, make sure they're all good

Serato now does support AMD Ryzen... but they don't specify. If you're using serato dj lite , the first version to use AMD Ryzen is version 1.5.5. If you use DJ pro the first version which is 2.5.5 supports AMD Ryzen.

Though I'm hearing that the new M1 chip is going to change all processing. Is it worth waiting for Pioneer/Apple to work out the kinks keeping Big Sur from Rekordbox? Or will an i9 with 16-32gb of RAM be more than enough processing power for a wedding DJ? (I presume someday I'll want to use the lighting features of Rekordbox). Thanks brother. Love your energy

So glad I ran into this video I have a question, what can you say about HP stream with Celeron processor and 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal space. I just picked up this computer because it was only $200 I'm trying to use a Pioneer SB3 controller and Serato DJ light for some mobile DJing. Do you think this will work? I hope it will because I already bought it I'd like to hear your thoughts on it also, I can't seem to find an answer to my next question, what about chromebook and pioneer sb3 With some sort of DJ software? I've heard rumors it is possible but I am not sure thank you so much for any help you can give me

Serato does not work with chromebook. Only windows 10-11 or any MacOS running Catalina 10.15 to 11 big sur to 12 montery.. as for processors the minimum is a i3 for Intel... AMD Ryzen or even Apple M1.
Go to best buy and look for a windows computer with a i3 or i5 processor and 8GB RAM.

I had a 4 core I7 4790k 4 threads, 32gb ddr3 and 1080ti before on win10 and I had continuous problems with serato vidéo (flashing white After a while and no pictures anymore)
Since early 2021 I am using a 10 core 20 threads desktop (10850K), with 64Gb ddr4 and 6800xt Home live DJ and everything is working fine. (External drives)
But to mix outside for Friends I would Love a laptop 👍

.... You should revamp this video with a more general idea as to where you can start
What you can get up to
What types of tiers of setups you can have
    Pc's in the price range
and your guide'll be more Sound

Wait. I have big sur (rookie mistake) and it worked without any problems with serato from what I can tell.
I have a Macbook air 2014 i5, 4 ram. Yes I need to upgrade but I'm just starting out as you can tell from that rookie mistake mentioned above.

    i5 8th gen 1.8ghz
8gb ram with 1 tb ssd
lenovo yoga 13. this is probably the bare minimum as backround stuff running will crash me.
make sure that you look at the processor speed as i5 with more then 1.8ghz will be much better over ram

Hey Nick, I’m leaning toward getting a Mac for my DJing. Any recommendations on what I should get around $1200. Also do you have any issue using adapter for the USB ports

For the 2012 MBP guys what do you think is the best OS to run in terms of stability with serato, upgrades an drivers for all the new controllers out there. I had some issues at a party last night with Yosemite and a pioneer DDJ SZ2. For nothing it would install the drivers successfully. Had to play off some DDJ 1000s then today like nothing happened last nite it installed after the fact without a problem. So I want to upgrade the OS now can't deal with that shit again. What do you recommend.

Traktor and N.I. Kontrollers are compatible with macOS 11 (Big Sur) except for S4mk3.
that Macbook Air M1 is a beast at $999. future proof.
    doesn’t even have/need a fan.
And DJay is also compatible with
    M1 + macOS 11

Hi Nick ! I’m planning to buy a new computer. Not sure if I should go with M1 processor or Intel 7. A sales person at the apple store who does music production told me not to go with the m1 processor because it won’t work as well compared to intel. He said M1 are good for student/ teachers but not for people who use dj softwares or music production . When I called back , other sales people said that the M1 is just fine ( Serato dj pro is now compatible with M1 processor ). Im getting a bit confused here. As of now I will just be using serato dj pro. Not sure if I’ll be using music production software. It really depends on how good I’ll get at djing and whether I will pursue it or not. So should I go with m1 or intel processors ? Thanks for all your help ! Faa

So, I like to offer this as a comparison. I have a Windows gaming laptop, Lenovo y700 15" i-7-6700 with 32gb of ram its solid. But, it compares in stability to my Macbook Pro 2012 i5 with 16gb. Go figure.

I appreciate your videos and agree with what you say, most of the time I already know what are you talking about in your video cause I've been in the business for more than 15 years but..
5:48 this is big BS, I have Huawei MateBook 14 with Ryzen 5 4600H and works better that ultra low voltage intels which drain only 15w from a laptop and 4600w drains 45w.. AMD rulz, new 12th gen intel is even better. I use Rekordbox

So I have a dell laptop specs:
    Windows 10 Home
    Intel core i7
    16gb RAM
    1TB HDD
I use Serato DJ with a DDJ SX3 and it always crashes on me between 17-23 minutes every single time. I have updated Serato DJ to the newest version I have updated my OS to the latest version but it still crashes on me. I have also optimized my laptop by configuring some device settings and it still crashes. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from crashing?
