PART 2: UPDATED!!!!!!! NEW TUTORIAL!!!!!!
• How to Play the Banjo ...
If I could put all the compliments here into one post, I would. You are doing the best tutorial I've seen so far, Keep up the Great work.
One word for you my friend... F A N T A S T I C..... you just opened up a whole new world for THIS guy..... howled when I heard the last line... I thought I invented "My cat has fleas".... bless !
A really great tutorial contribution! Thanks! You explain the two strokes really well. And your encouragement to start learning these SLOW is spot on!
Peace,
Stephen
Very interested in getting more lessons from you.
I find your way of teaching very interesting and easy to follow.
I think you did a great job. And the only tutorial that names the chords. Makes it easier to follow. Thanks!
Фильм Джордж из Динки--джаза удалось посмотреть в школьные годы. Был восхищён игрой комедийного актёра, его умением владеть банджо. Инструмент всегда особенно звучит в диксиленде.
Hey Johnny, could you PLEASE do similar tutorials for other Formby solos? This video was so helpful with the Barmaid solo. I’d love to see some others with chords and timing mapped out like you did here! Please please and thank you!!
Thanks for watching. It's a great uke for the price range. I have several ukes and still play my Goldtone all the time.
I have watched loads of ukulele tutorials this summer, and yours was probably my favorite. Thanks for keeping it real! Haha
Thanks for the strumming instructions AND THE CHORDS! had a heck of a time figuring them out from the original film, even after I found out about the tuning...
Really helpful Johnny, thanks for sharing 👍
Hi count,nice one
I have been playing a little since the 1960s, taught myself as a kid listening to my Dad's Formby records and watching the old films, I learned to play that stroke exactly opposite to you, instead of up + down.down, I play down + up.up which also makes it smoother to go into the fan stroke (which I feel is a theatrical version of the split stroke on the up up), try it, Nice to mix them up too. :)
I am already a member!! :) Thanks for watching!
hi count.ive been playing uke banjo since 1966,[i was 8!] and ive never bothered with a triplet untill i saw your video.i spent many years playing a triple with single stroke speed.im having a go at it.great playing.[mind you ive been told im pretty hot myself] love the uke.had mine too long.all the best.
@songandancedaisy Thanks for watching! I am so happy that people are enjoying my tutorial. Best advice I can give is to go slow and work on proper form so that you don't develop bad habits. Good luck!
excellent tutorial - can't wait to see the Fan Stroke one too!
Thank you so much!! I think a new one is in order though. I want to do a series of shorter videos concentrating each video on one certain technique. Thanks for watching!!!!!
A really useful tutorial!
Many thanks as it was really helpful especially when you played it slowly! Its really encouraged me to carry on!
All the chords are in the video towards the very end. Just have a listen to the song. There are 3 parts but they all use the same F F7 Bb C7 chords just in slightly different orders. I will make another video of the performance of the song if I can get a chance. Thanks for watching!!!!
Outstanding! Thank you.
Thanks for that! Glad it helps. It is worth tuning the uke up to D. It helps the tone and punchiness of the banjo ukulele really shine through. Try it sometime!
And thank you for watching. I want to do some more uke tutorials in the future so stay tuned.
Hi Johnny..As a new player this is so good, at the end when you slow it down it suddenly seems to slot into place. I will take it really slowly and get the chords and then try to gradually build up speed....thanks so much for de mystifying
@WiganGeorge Something that really helped me was putting more distance between my thumb and finger. Also, practicing it over and over with the strings muted really helped me get the hang of it!
Great to know there are other non-english people playing Formby tunes besides me! :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for this. Just lovely and clear
Fantastic tuition vid, thanks so much....I'm determined to crack this! I love the chord progression as well!
Thanks for watching. Yes, I would say the triplet is the most versatile uke trick in the book. Once you get the hang of it, it just belongs.
Just ordered the Gold Tone Deluxe. That was awesome, thanks!
best tutorial I've seen so far c:
Thanks Johnny for this helpful tutorial, your a Legend.
@OneEyedWilly1000 It's a Goldtone Soprano Deluxe w/ a calf skin head. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much! I am currently working on an EPIC full length Formby tutorial. Check back for more stuff! Thanks for watching. Just keep it up! TRIP-I-LET!!!!!!

Fantastic!
Thanks a lot for this - great for a beginner like me. What instrument is it that you use? Is it a Goldtone or a Rally?
excellent you should join the georgeformby society in england
Thanks a lot! I just tried to explain it the way it works in my head. This video is quite old and I sure want to do another. :)
Goldtone deluxe soprano w/ calf skin head. Gotta get that stock vellum off there. Makes a big difference.
What brand is the banjo uke?
I've been looking for one with a resonator.
Great video btw.

@simsons51ehome Thanks a lot! I am working on another focusing mainly on the right hand rhythm techniques.
Party on, Wayne

@banjoddave Thanks a lot m8! Next one is in the works.
thx for the tuto.
I'm George formby's nephew
@simsons51ehome I played it at that speed for a long time before I could speed it up.
hey my freind ,great am in cananda at precent ,+they love are george formby
Shame the sound is so low
If you can play one of these chinese ukes as standard without a dropped neck - (Which FORMBY NEVER DID on his, especially the Ludwig, Formby mode🤔🙄) which looks like it is a straight neck, hence no Height at the Bridge 13mm to an Ascending 3 to 5mm Action by placing the Bridge so far bacj from the 12th fret,,,, Its so low, doing a fan is no effort, but Do Formby players struggle with a Factory standard Ludwig or Gibson UB that hasn't been adjusted,,????? Im guessing No to the great players, Andy Eastwood, Peter moss, Steve Helmes and Lewis Clifton, Lewis is the most natural player next to Dickie Speake,,, amazing young man,,, enjoyed ir, thanks,,,, but Man id learn the hard way playing Break strokes and Triples
Shame the sound is so low
