Forced maturity is a real thing. And when you consider a kid who was chased out of every place he called home, who hid and read in libraries to stay in a warm and dry place. You'd kind of expect them to be able to present a mature face at least.
The 'for prestige, people care about you' bit always gets me, because yes it's objectively awful that the other kid snaps his own wand, but Evan did save his life.
Man the whole conceit of secret magic society always gives me the vibe that theyre keeping the power from the so-called "muggles" so the way Aabria fully set that up here rocks so hard
