In case some people don't know, charity organizations take a portion of the donated money for their own (iirc, it's closer to or more than 50%!). This is used to pay the workers who work for the company. Now, if you think it as $10 donation, they take $5, this seems reasonable enough, right? Basically the donors could ask at any moment what happened with their donations and the company could show the result. If it were ever found out that any money landed in a private pocket by anyone in the leadership, that person would land in jail straight away. But the company is structured in such a way that that would not even be possible at all simply because of how the accounting works - company's funds do not ever belong to the CEOs. No matter how you slice it this is bad. Even the most charitable thing for Jirard is that he learned about all of this fraud in 2022 and yet still lied about where the money is going to get donations in the livestream. That’s charity fraud.
This is assuming he genuinely had no idea about any potential fraud and genuinely thought all the money was going into a bank account that’s not being touched. He still knowingly lied about it and that’s still illegal.

I am an auditor, not for the IRS but for a public company. Part of my duties is to audit donations made for the year and the concern is mostly just to make sure the donation was made and there is a receipt as proof. Companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi wouldn’t give two shits for an amount like $8k as it’s far too immaterial. To them, the donation was made and they have proof so they get the tax write off. Recouping the $8k would only be a concern if there is actual fraud charges but even then I can imagine it would just be written off in some way. I of course cannot directly speak for these companies but I know it would likely be towards the bottom list of priorities at the company I work for.
I think the golf event might be under its own charity. It’s been operating before Open Hand was created so that would be the only explanation I can think of why the reported revenue does not match up. However, Open Hand would still have the same issues regardless. It’s hard to say unless there’s a way to clearly see the revenue breakdown.
Another theory I have is they are just not filling their taxes correctly, whether it is on purpose or not (would still be fraud). They could be paying expenses for these events and subtracting those amounts from the revenue they are reporting. Expenses are very low which is why I think this.

If you are hard set on donating to something, this situation likely won't change your mind about that, but a lot of donations come from people who might be on the fence, and only if they enjoy the event itself, might make them donate.
So having someone spotlight a possibly fraudulent charity, might turn those people off from donating to other charities, simply because they might start questioning THEM as well...

No, you're not pretty sure, you're wildly speculating based on something you've heard somebody else suggest probably. Just stop, it's cringe. Also, doesn't even matter. tbh I don't trust any charity organisations, because they're usually just a tax avoidance scam (if not worse), but I agree we should wait and see how this story develops. I don't really care about the Completionist, but anything could happend there - he could be the con artist, he can be innocent, but he could also be the victim of his own predatory family (I can imagine scenairo where he just made the content and someone else was responsible for dealing with finances).
Also as much as it might look bad, I'm not suprised he's staying silent, because whatever he would say now, it could be used against him. Exactly the same happend to the projared, who was crucified by the internet for being kiddyfiddler and staying silent after the accusations, only to find out half a year later that he just went to the court and proven that entire story was made up by the metoo "activists" and the only truth was his open relationship with his (ex-)wife, which was their private matter. IIRC he even got some compensation, but internet wasn't interested in reporting that fact.
      so, lets wait and see.

Could it be possible that the golf tournament donated the money to indieland to drastically increase the money raised thus increasing the media coverage rather than directly to openhand? Which is why there isn't much change from the year they showed both revenue streams to the next year where indieland was the only one shown.

This also unknown foundation has 5000$ laying around to GIFT to someone for making a hole and one? I get you can get an insurance company to front those bills, but comeon that is INCREDIBLY shaky for people to give a good chunk of money to.
