I have osteoporosis, like brutally bad. I have done "intermittent fasting" since high school...almost 50 years ago. My early efforts to be thin very likely caused me to never develop max bone density, so now, at 63, I have the bones of a 90 year old. When I was diagnosed, I did change my diet, increased my activity (I had been a runner and weight lifter, but had stopped both because I kept injuring myself--before I knew I had osteoporosis,) despite pain...and sadly, all signs point to diabetes anyway, and ckd, and I'm still in pain/struggle to increase strength without making my life miserable. It can be a damned if you do, damned if you don't proposition, and I understand why some people don't try.
@@cindylutz7442 yes and hiking up mountains and wild places comes with the risk of wild animal encounters but its so rewarding physically as forested trails mostly are softer /less impacting on your joints/bones compared to pounding pavement if running. a mountain bike with only a front shock is a great low impact way to keep fit and stay lean /healthy esspecially when learning to climb hills while standing on your pedals and off the seat even on paved roads it gives you a total body workout. the mountain bike allows you to keep your back straight compared to road racing bikes and just learn to keep your tires inflated for your body weight as too much air makes steering control tricky and you can lose control/fall and too little air can make pedalling too much of a chore and taking the fun out of it. avoid rear shock bikes as even when locked out they make riding a chore unless you like racing really fast down a mountain trail/road.👍
I’m 58 years old and almost two years ago I was 242 pounds. I had a high sugar and ultra processed diet. I ate all the wrong things all day, every day and late into the night. I was getting sugar spikes, constant heartburn/acid reflux and my digestive system was going absolutely crazy. I stopped the sugar and ultra processed foods. I drink plenty of water have bananas and peaches for snacks instead of donuts and walk my dogs at a brisk pace between 2-4 miles everyday. My weight dropped to 196 pounds (I’m 6’1”) and all my digestive issues have resolved. My waist size dropped from a 38” to a 34”. It wasn’t easy sometimes but it was well worth it. It's what they always used to say it was -- diet and exercise. That's the whole thing. That's 90% of healthcare. Diet and exercise. Diet in the sense of NUTRITION, not "dieting". They stopped giving that advice. Now it's pills and more pills. And the population has become fat and sick and I think that's the way they like it.

There are so many approved cRap in the U.S. that are banned in other countries. Sea Turtles banned here but crickes are approved here and get a pass in the ingredients list. Not listed on labels.

Yep....even moderate daily exercise....keeping a reasonable (not ripped) body weight....and at.least making 80% of your food unprocessed.....that would solve this issue.

The best part about quitting sugar is that after a while, you don’t even crave it anymore. I used to be THE BIGGEST sugar addict. Now I’ve been carnivore for 2 years.
I think there is something they do to white sugar that makes it more addictive. I switched to organic sugar years ago, which I use pretty much only for my coffee, and I really don't care for sweet foods anymore as I used to.

Organic in the phrasing is about how it is sourced, and the use of no pesticides or other man made chemicals on the sugar cane in the growing or harvesting process. A cancer sufferer who consumes white sugar will have a tougher time achieving full remission compared to a cancer sufferer who consumes organic sugar. Why? Because organic sugar contains nothing carcinogenic. If you're gonna speak on a subject like this as if you know what you are talking about, you should do enough research so you do know what you are talking about.

You mentioned people trying to get the closest parking space possible. I get a kick watching people going to the gym to exercise will drive around the parking lot for 10 or more minutes to get a close parking spot. When my wife and I go to the grocery she gets annoyed at me for parking near the end of the parking lot. I tell her that I'd rather walk a bit further than to have to deal with the car and foot traffic close to entrance. Unfortunately she just doesn't get it.
@@TudorCityGrrrl Yes, walking in a parking lot can be dangerous. You have to pay as much attention when walking as driving. I figure that while walking I'm a smaller target and can change direction a lot quicker.
I'm fat (changing that thru carnivore) but have parked way out for years. I HATE driving around to find a spot. I get in and out quicker by parking farther out. And fat or thin, the walk is better for me.

65 years old and sarcopenic so I joined gymnastics. Best thing I could have done to improve my health. Young people do not care that you are old and fat. The people at my gymnastics class don't want to hear excuses and are very supportive. I really enjoy being around young people. It is a life saver for me.
I am 61 and very deconditioned . I have never been able to do gymnastics and never been a real athlete. I am worried about ripping or pulling tendons muscles. Did you use to be a gymnast ? I’m just wondering what your baseline is ? I am pretty desperate because I am scared . It’s just me and I do not know what to do to start to become physically strong . M so many things I can not do because I can’t lift more than 10 lbs and there is no one to help. There is a lot of depression but that’s another story . @@Grungefan2018 You sound like me. But I am 5 years older than you! My baseline is 0. I'm going to guess you already know what Dr D has said? As I do. But can't seem to start. Might I suggest that you don't need to do gymnastics because you just read about it - only if you really want to. Make sure you are not grabbing at solutions just because you have read about it (as I do everyday). Two things. Start with walking outside every day. Even just to the nearest lamppost and go to the next one every few days. Do strength exercises easy to find on YT physiotherapy sites. Set yourself a goal of just doing these for 2 weeks or a month. Setting an easy goal is important, esp with depression around. You sound to me as if, like me, you, from fear, plan to transform your world 100% every day; but it never happens? Just do this initially, to get started, then, in a few weeks, it may come to you what, more group, exercise you would enjoy doing. Maybe Tai Chi or Xi Gung? Seniors kick boxing even. 😀 Both increase strength. Do it because you enjoy it. That's important. Find your own path. Second thing, write down, in a notebook, what you plan, your thoughts, why you are doing it. That is your friend. Writing things down make things more real in our minds. Use a PEN and PAPER! Typing does not have the same connection to your brain as hand writing does. I hope, for both of us, we can follow this and start to make changes. Another tip is to list to Dr Michael Mosley's series 'Just One Thing', for many small, positive changes we can all make. I wish us both the best of luck. xx

I have zero activity and sit all day watching RUclips and or flying MSFS 2020 on my Xbox Series X gaming console and I am 5' 10" and weigh 110kg's however I do NOT eat Supermarket foods or fast foods. I like to cook and I eat very very little carbs for 20 years and eat a lot of meats, eggs etc. My yearly bloods come back fine and my A1C is always < 5.7% and my average blood glucose level is always below 6 mmol/L. Am I a freak as well????

'Nothing tastes so good as being healthy feels.' Quit the carbs. Quit everything in the middle aisles of the suoermarket as well as the packaged foods in the fridges. Treat vegetables with care. They have anti-nutrients. And you can't be sure of which fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides were used to grow them. Eat beef(and fish, pork, chicken if you wish) butter (or lard , tallow, ghee, duck fat to cook with), bacon and eggs with salt and water. Do it for a month and you won't look back.

I stopped baking a long time ago. I live alone. I would make brownies with the idea I'd eat them slowly over time. In fact, I'd have a day where my emotions went haywire and those brownies could disappear kwik

My mum has Diabetes, but shelistened to my advice and changed her diet and got mostly off carbs. After her last blood test, the Dr was stunned as she had the best levels and asked her "What are you doing?" - smirk ✨️✨️✨️
My doctor warned me that my diet was "really dangerous" but after ten years she admitted "By now I would have expected you to be on two or three diabetes medications". Another nine years and I'm still on none plus I came off all my other meds. The only downside is that now I am nineteen years older. That wouldn't have happened if I continued to eat the dietician's diet, I would be much fatter, on lots of drugs and almost certainly already dead. Congratulations to you and your mum.
@@Joegengstah Yes, I used my glucometer to tell me how many carbs I could eat when. Initially I was limited to 15g at breakfast and 30g by evening. After I had been doing it for a while my morning tolerance strangely reduced to 10g but by evening I could eat 80 or even 100g, a useful party trick but I mostly stick below 50g/day. I eat more protein and especially fat until I could smell the ketones in my pee. Today I had a thickly buttered oatcake with smoked salmon for breakfast, and I just had an evening meal of bacon, lamb's liver and a giant mushroom lightly fried in EVOO with some broccoli boiled briefly a couple more thickly buttered oatcakes and a glass of malbec. Other days I eat rump steak and buttered asparagus or ham and buttered peas and similar stuff. I used to eat breakfast then not eat again until I became hungry, which might be any time between late afternoon and late evening, irrespective of whether I was sat at my computer or walking round the bird reserve, up and down the coast or over the heaths and farmland. Now I can't walk so much. Obviously people especially doctors will blame eating too much fat or meat and completely ignore over fifty years of diabetic damage.

They can be misleading; however, once one knows how to read them, they still help identify bad food. My rule is to avoid food with labels that mention any ingredient unavailable before the Industrial Revolution. Combining that with minimizing even real single-ingredient foods that are high carb, life is much better.
The only way to know for sure what is in our food is to prepare it from raw ingredients. Either that or get a chemistry degree in order to understand the labels.
@@coweatsman If a child cannot easily read a food label, then no one should eat that product. A rare exception is fermented foods with labels that list strains of bacteria.
I appreciate this video. It gives me a lot to thing about. I do read labels and I do try to make good food purchases and cook a lot of what I eat at home. I have fallen prey to the sugar/carb addiction and the sedentary lifestyle. I already knew that but it it something I needed to hear someone say to me. I am 78 years old and until recently, since covid, have gained about 35 pounds and have had osteoarthritis that has given me a lot of hip pain that I have given in to. Most of the weight gain is around my middle and it makes me miserable. In the last month I have started checking my BP regularly and it is high most of the time. I have noticed some physical symptoms like headaches and jitteriness. I do believe I can get this under control. I need to save this video and listen to it everyday until i know I am doing all the things I should be doing. Thanks for listening and keep this excellent information coming.

This is.a great message and also it is helpful for those who are 50 and above, especially women going through massive hormonal changes, to know that the transformation may be slower and you can get to great change even if it is slow going to get there. I've been working at it for 2 years very consistently and with the support of a great low carb doctor and community. It can be discouraging because the natural body changes are counteracting the work I'm doing, so I am not seeing a miraculous turn around despite the hard work. But I would be much worse off if I wasn't doing these positive changes while going through perimenopause/menopause. So if you are feeling discouraged, keep on going. It may not be "weeks", it may be years, but it is worth it!

I was doing high protein/ low carb, animal fats included. Certain vegetables, legumes and grains tend to be my main IBS triggers. I eat the veggies that don’t trigger it. I can’t afford to do it consistently anymore. I do what I can but it is having an impact on me. My IBS has returned and my joints are back to aching. Canada’s food prices are wild. The healthy foods are the ones that have skyrocketed the most in cost. The other issue is grocery stores selling expired food and spoiled produce. This is becoming too common of an occurrence where I live. Who wants to buy grey hamburger and moldy tomatoes and peppers? Rotting grapes, anyone? I have food allergies and IBS so I read food labels and have for many years. I buy products that have the least amount of ingredients with ingredients that you can actually pronounce.

Thanks Dr Dhand. Your advice focusses on what you should eat. That is absolutely correct. I would add point 4 though as follows. How much you eat is also very important because what you body cannot use it is programmed to store the balance as fat.
After watching this video I decided to park in the lower parking lot every day. This forces me to take what we call on campus "The Stairway to Heaven". And I take the stairs up to my office on the second floor (alway done that). That's a total of 100 (stair) steps. By the time I get to the top, I am a little out of breath and my legs hurt. But it will get better.
I decided to go keto. I do not eat meat either. I was eating too much processed,so three years ago I decided to pull my big girl pants up and take care of myself. Carbs are the killer , processed food is dangerous! I also fast . My blood sugars have plummeted. I was 11 @ my highest. Shocked to be told by my diabetic nurse that she nursed folk whose blood sugars were in the 30s..WOW.. I am 58 and strength train, athlete in my youth,but had my kids,work and just did not think about my diet.,This Doc is 100 per cent correct
I grew up in Hawaii, the healthiest State in the Union...I'm 65.75...Im at my ideal BMI, no diabetes...although I'm recovering from skin cancer...yep, Hawaii... Hawaii has so much organic wholesome food everywhere... everyone plays hard... simple...

In many jurisdictions fioe gras (AKA non alcoholic liver disease in geese) is illegal. It is considered unethical and inhumane. The geese are fattened with high carbohydrate food for corporate profit. But this is exactly how food corporations are treating consumers. Consumers are treated like feedlot animals, fattened up for corporate profit. We sometimes treat animals better than people. We need an RSPCA for humans as well as animals and one which is not corrupted for corporate funding.
I don’t think foie gras is a big corporate item, it’s mostly from private farms. And yes, the farmer wants to make a profit, that’s how he survives. But I get your point.
Stick with it! I've been on it over a year. Best part for me now is if I do cheat I really feel it and it makes cheating less and less appealing to even entertain. So hang in through the cravings to begin with and get enough Electrolytes! ❤
Wonderful ! Just remember to take it easy for a while until your body adapts. This usually takes a few weeks. Too dramatic a change can trigger oxalate dumping which can be most unpleasant. I never went down the smoothie/vegetarian/vegan path but I still had weeks and weeks of an annoying very itchy rash. This has now disappeared (thank goodness) but other people can have constipation or headaches. It varies. I hate to see people giving up early in the piece because of adverse effects which could have been avoided. Just saying 😀 Always up to you to watch and listen and make up your own mind.
@@raynarks You aren't eating enough fat. You should actually have the runs for the first couple of weeks until you adjust to the high fat intake. Hope that helps 😊
I do believe a lot of what you say and I will admit I don't have a ton of time to make my own food. I do run 4 miles/day though, so that's a plus. I did keto and lost a lot of weight, but my cholesterol numbers got quite high (albeit the test uses a formula I believe and it overestimates when you have low triglycerides). Eating in some ways becomes a bit of a chore and so I can often reach to those quick snacks which likely does stall losing my last 50 lbs or so. But indeed I need to plan easy and quick meals to keep on top of things. Carbs can be an ugly cycle, although it is nice to indulge to some degree. The issue though is that it makes you want to eat more carbs. I suppose I ought to be a bit more of a stoic 😂
Ultimately, we are all responsible for our own health. There is so much information available to live a clean and healthy life...if you choose to ignore the advice you should expect to get sick. Period.
I've been a carnivore for a little over a year and was strict keto for over 2 decades before that. I can lift more than men 1/3 my age. I can't drink alcohol because my body doesn't have alcohol dehydrogenase in sufficient amounts. That makes me 6 to 10 times more likely to develop esophageal cancer if I drink, like the grandpa I never met who died at age 58 from that disease. I have no idea what a cigarette tastes like. I train 3 of my friends 3 times per week in my house, but I can't convince them to stop eating carbs, sugar, and processed foods. You would think that since I'm the same age and am the only one who doesn't have diabetes, obesity, HBP, and am not on a statin, they'd give up eating human kibble, but the addiction is so powerful. If I'm not working out, I'm working someone else out. I even walk my cat, and he gets at least 20 minutes of quality play every day in addition to that. My dad had his first heart attack before he was even 40. That was in the early 70s when everyone was skinny, too. Luckily, I was a hyper child who had to be put in gymnastics. I broke a neighbor's basement couch by jumping on it repeatedly. I got long Covid in 2020, so severe, the doctor thought I had a major stroke. Weeks earlier, I set a personal best of 142 consecutive pushups, so it was devastating. I gained 20 lbs over half a year as I battled the severe fatigue that came with it. If I overdid it, I'd pay for days after. I'm not 100% yet with my endurance, but my strength is greater than before, which is great since I'm turning 60 this winter. Eating meat is like a fountain of youth. I can't explain it, but it seems very obvious that it's nutrient dense and all of those nutrients are bioavailable. I got IBS from the Covid booster shot. It went into remission when I eliminated plants. I am the only person in my family with no fillings. I can do more pushups than Joe Rogan, but my 2 sisters can't do 1 pushup between the two of them, and one is thin. My brother and I are more dedicated to maintaining a good quality of life as we age through exercise. He is really into intense bike riding. I outlift him, but he kicks my cardio butt. He also eats better. He has the self-control to eat 1/2 of a homemade sandwich and a vegetable or a piece of fruit. He's 65 and seems immune from food addiction. He has never gained weight in his life. I joke that when it comes to math and weight, he got the Japanese genes.🤣 Although I was a wirey athletic kid, weighing 110 lbs. all through my 20s and riding my bike to work, after menopause, I seem to have a choice of being chubby or muscular. Sorry, but you aren't and never will be a carnivore. You are an omnivore. There is also no support for that fad diet, and a lot of issues. So do you follow the Beef and Milk only version from the 1850's, , or the version that allows only meat and hot water? Good luck with lowering your risk for diabetes the same amount you increase your risk for cancer, Gout, and Kidney disease, and destroy the environment while you are at it. Smart move.
Good video and very comprehensive. I don't know about others but my body tells me to exercise. I go on regular spirited walks and look for jobs which are strenuous like gardening and jobs requiring tools. If I were to sit around my body would say 'get out and move'. I always park well away from shops (easy to find a space) and walk - often not directly- there. I also go for country walks and am amazed how FEW PEOPLE I meet. Despite this I am pre diabetic so very aware of what I eat now.
I'm in Germany. Our catsitter's diabetic father just came home from the hospital after doctors removed most of his leg! I don't know what our lovely catsitter eats but she's very fat and believes that diabetes is genetic. Thank you, Dr. Dhand. We must make careful choices every day, in many ways. There is a genetic version. I used to work in a dance shop and my boss’s grandsons both have it. She was paediatric nurse who worked in the neonatal unit so she assisted in their care. It came from their father who is a carrier. Both of her grandsons were born with it. Neonatal Diabetes Mellitus. It’s a form of monogenic diabetes.

I saw a horror story when I took my mother to the opthalmologist. This patient was in a wheelchair due to a missing leg, and was so fat the wheelchair wouldn't fit through the door, so the doctor had to move his equipment into a different room with double doors. I assume she was there with diabetic retinopathy. Wake-up call!

I was pre diabetic and did intermittent fasting and reversed it 👏🏾👏🏾
I have osteoporosis, like brutally bad. I have done "intermittent fasting" since high school...almost 50 years ago. My early efforts to be thin very likely caused me to never develop max bone density, so now, at 63, I have the bones of a 90 year old. When I was diagnosed, I did change my diet, increased my activity (I had been a runner and weight lifter, but had stopped both because I kept injuring myself--before I knew I had osteoporosis,) despite pain...and sadly, all signs point to diabetes anyway, and ckd, and I'm still in pain/struggle to increase strength without making my life miserable.
It can be a damned if you do, damned if you don't proposition, and I understand why some people don't try.

@@cindylutz7442 yes and hiking up mountains and wild places comes with the risk of wild animal encounters but its so rewarding physically as forested trails mostly are softer /less impacting on your joints/bones compared to pounding pavement if running. a mountain bike with only a front shock is a great low impact way to keep fit and stay lean /healthy esspecially when learning to climb hills while standing on your pedals and off the seat even on paved roads it gives you a total body workout. the mountain bike allows you to keep your back straight compared to road racing bikes and just learn to keep your tires inflated for your body weight as too much air makes steering control tricky and you can lose control/fall and too little air can make pedalling too much of a chore and taking the fun out of it. avoid rear shock bikes as even when locked out they make riding a chore unless you like racing really fast down a mountain trail/road.👍
I’m 58 years old and almost two years ago I was 242 pounds. I had a high sugar and ultra processed diet. I ate all the wrong things all day, every day and late into the night. I was getting sugar spikes, constant heartburn/acid reflux and my digestive system was going absolutely crazy. I stopped the sugar and ultra processed foods. I drink plenty of water have bananas and peaches for snacks instead of donuts and walk my dogs at a brisk pace between 2-4 miles everyday. My weight dropped to 196 pounds (I’m 6’1”) and all my digestive issues have resolved. My waist size dropped from a 38” to a 34”. It wasn’t easy sometimes but it was well worth it. It's what they always used to say it was -- diet and exercise. That's the whole thing. That's 90% of healthcare. Diet and exercise. Diet in the sense of NUTRITION, not "dieting". They stopped giving that advice. Now it's pills and more pills. And the population has become fat and sick and I think that's the way they like it.

The best part about quitting sugar is that after a while, you don’t even crave it anymore. I used to be THE BIGGEST sugar addict. Now I’ve been carnivore for 2 years.
I think there is something they do to white sugar that makes it more addictive. I switched to organic sugar years ago, which I use pretty much only for my coffee, and I really don't care for sweet foods anymore as I used to.

Organic in the phrasing is about how it is sourced, and the use of no pesticides or other man made chemicals on the sugar cane in the growing or harvesting process. A cancer sufferer who consumes white sugar will have a tougher time achieving full remission compared to a cancer sufferer who consumes organic sugar. Why? Because organic sugar contains nothing carcinogenic.

You mentioned people trying to get the closest parking space possible. I get a kick watching people going to the gym to exercise will drive around the parking lot for 10 or more minutes to get a close parking spot. When my wife and I go to the grocery she gets annoyed at me for parking near the end of the parking lot. I tell her that I'd rather walk a bit further than to have to deal with the car and foot traffic close to entrance. Unfortunately she just doesn't get it.

@@TudorCityGrrrl Yes, walking in a parking lot can be dangerous. You have to pay as much attention when walking as driving. I figure that while walking I'm a smaller target and can change direction a lot quicker.
I'm fat (changing that thru carnivore) but have parked way out for years. I HATE driving around to find a spot. I get in and out quicker by parking farther out. And fat or thin, the walk is better for me.
Maybe tell her you are actually doing it for both yourself and her to have a better, healthier life? 😉

@@annecoyle5811I took synthroid for years bc a doc said I needed it. I simply quit taking it, survived just fine. 68, no pHARMaceuticals. Been returning the cart from a distance at all retail stores for 30 years, TV free for 10 years, as well, and 60 pushups daily.

Young people do not care that you are old and fat. The people at my gymnastics class don't want to hear excuses and are very supportive.
I really enjoy being around young people. It is a life saver for me.

I am 61 and very deconditioned . I have never been able to do gymnastics and never been a real athlete. I am worried about ripping or pulling tendons muscles. Did you use to be a gymnast ? I’m just wondering what your baseline is ? I am pretty desperate because I am scared . It’s just me and I do not know what to do to start to become physically strong . M so many things I can not do because I can’t lift more than 10 lbs and there is no one to help. There is a lot of depression but that’s another story . My baseline is 0. I'm going to guess you already know what Dr D has said? As I do. But can't seem to start.
Might I suggest that you don't need to do gymnastics because you just read about it - only if you really want to. Make sure you are not grabbing at solutions just because you have read about it (as I do everyday).
Two things.
Start with walking outside every day. Even just to the nearest lamppost and go to the next one every few days. Do strength exercises easy to find on YT physiotherapy sites. Set yourself a goal of just doing these for 2 weeks or a month. Setting an easy goal is important, esp with depression around. You sound to me as if, like me, you, from fear, plan to transform your world 100% every day; but it never happens? Just do this initially, to get started, then, in a few weeks, it may come to you what, more group, exercise you would enjoy doing. Maybe Tai Chi or Xi Gung? Seniors kick boxing even. 😀 Both increase strength. Do it because you enjoy it. That's important. Find your own path.
Second thing, write down, in a notebook, what you plan, your thoughts, why you are doing it. That is your friend. Writing things down make things more real in our minds. Use a PEN and PAPER! Typing does not have the same connection to your brain as hand writing does.
I hope, for both of us, we can follow this and start to make changes.
Another tip is to list to Dr Michael Mosley's series 'Just One Thing', for many small, positive changes we can all make.

I have zero activity and sit all day watching RUclips and or flying MSFS 2020 on my Xbox Series X gaming console and I am 5' 10" and weigh 110kg's however I do NOT eat Supermarket foods or fast foods. I like to cook and I eat very very little carbs for 20 years and eat a lot of meats, eggs etc. My yearly bloods come back fine and my A1C is always < 5.7% and my average blood glucose level is always below 6 mmol/L. Am I a freak as well????

Quit the carbs. Quit everything in the middle aisles of the suoermarket as well as the packaged foods in the fridges.
Treat vegetables with care. They have anti-nutrients. And you can't be sure of which fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides were used to grow them.
Eat beef(and fish, pork, chicken if you wish) butter (or lard , tallow, ghee, duck fat to cook with), bacon and eggs with salt and water. Do it for a month and you won't look back.

I would suggest not relying on willpower and setting up your home food environment such that the healthy choices the default choice. Higher risk, tempting foods are best left outside of the house to be enjoyed on occasion
I stopped baking a long time ago. I live alone. I would make brownies with the idea I'd eat them slowly over time. In fact, I'd have a day where my emotions went haywire and those brownies could disappear kwik
I was so sad when we stopped baking brownies and cookies, but it has saved my wife's life and slowed my aging.

I was diagnosed with type 2 - went whole food plant based and got active - A1C from 7.8 to 5.8 with no medication.
Yay! I went Keto and then low carb and went from 7.1 to 4.8.
A beef steak is the highest most bioavailable source of total human nutrition on the planet.... Every plant based person I know after a year or two of not eating meat looks 20 years older than their calendar age...

My mum has Diabetes, but shelistened to my advice and changed her diet and got mostly off carbs. After her last blood test, the Dr was stunned as she had the best levels and asked her "What are you doing?" - smirk ✨️✨️✨️
By the question you see they do not know what they are doing. I do not go to id**** like that. You are dead long term.
My doctor warned me that my diet was "really dangerous" but after ten years she admitted "By now I would have expected you to be on two or three diabetes medications". Another nine years and I'm still on none plus I came off all my other meds.
The only downside is that now I am nineteen years older. That wouldn't have happened if I continued to eat the dietician's diet, I would be much fatter, on lots of drugs and almost certainly already dead.

@@Joegengstah Yes, I used my glucometer to tell me how many carbs I could eat when. Initially I was limited to 15g at breakfast and 30g by evening. After I had been doing it for a while my morning tolerance strangely reduced to 10g but by evening I could eat 80 or even 100g, a useful party trick but I mostly stick below 50g/day. I eat more protein and especially fat until I could smell the ketones in my pee. Today I had a thickly buttered oatcake with smoked salmon for breakfast, and I just had an evening meal of bacon, lamb's liver and a giant mushroom lightly fried in EVOO with some broccoli boiled briefly a couple more thickly buttered oatcakes and a glass of malbec. Other days I eat rump steak and buttered asparagus or ham and buttered peas and similar stuff.
I used to eat breakfast then not eat again until I became hungry, which might be any time between late afternoon and late evening, irrespective of whether I was sat at my computer or walking round the bird reserve, up and down the coast or over the heaths and farmland. Now I can't walk so much. Obviously people especially doctors will blame eating too much fat or meat and completely ignore over fifty years of diabetic damage.
You mean refined carbs like candy, pop, doughnuts, cookies, cakes not complex carbs whole grains the body's much preferred source of fuel .

Even the labels often lie.
They can be misleading; however, once one knows how to read them, they still help identify bad food. My rule is to avoid food with labels that mention any ingredient unavailable before the Industrial Revolution. Combining that with minimizing even real single-ingredient foods that are high carb, life is much better.
The only way to know for sure what is in our food is to prepare it from raw ingredients. Either that or get a chemistry degree in order to understand the labels.

I appreciate this video. It gives me a lot to thing about. I do read labels and I do try to make good food purchases and cook a lot of what I eat at home. I have fallen prey to the sugar/carb addiction and the sedentary lifestyle. I already knew that but it it something I needed to hear someone say to me. I am 78 years old and until recently, since covid, have gained about 35 pounds and have had osteoarthritis that has given me a lot of hip pain that I have given in to. Most of the weight gain is around my middle and it makes me miserable. In the last month I have started checking my BP regularly and it is high most of the time. I have noticed some physical symptoms like headaches and jitteriness. I do believe I can get this under control. I need to save this video and listen to it everyday until i know I am doing all the things I should be doing. Thanks for listening and keep this excellent information coming.

Nothing of that will lower the insulin. That's impossible physically. The only way to lower insulin is to eat less carbs.

This is.a great message and also it is helpful for those who are 50 and above, especially women going through massive hormonal changes, to know that the transformation may be slower and you can get to great change even if it is slow going to get there. I've been working at it for 2 years very consistently and with the support of a great low carb doctor and community. It can be discouraging because the natural body changes are counteracting the work I'm doing, so I am not seeing a miraculous turn around despite the hard work. But I would be much worse off if I wasn't doing these positive changes while going through perimenopause/menopause. So if you are feeling discouraged, keep on going. It may not be "weeks", it may be years, but it is worth it!

I was doing high protein/ low carb, animal fats included. Certain vegetables, legumes and grains tend to be my main IBS triggers. I eat the veggies that don’t trigger it.
I can’t afford to do it consistently anymore. I do what I can but it is having an impact on me. My IBS has returned and my joints are back to aching. Canada’s food prices are wild. The healthy foods are the ones that have skyrocketed the most in cost.
The other issue is grocery stores selling expired food and spoiled produce. This is becoming too common of an occurrence where I live.
Who wants to buy grey hamburger and moldy tomatoes and peppers? Rotting grapes, anyone?
I have food allergies and IBS so I read food labels and have for many years. I buy products that have the least amount of ingredients with ingredients that you can actually pronounce.

How much you eat is also very important because what you body cannot use it is programmed to store the balance as fat.
Make a fist with your hand...that is the size of stomach. Don't need much food...most folks overeat...❤

After watching this video I decided to park in the lower parking lot every day. This forces me to take what we call on campus "The Stairway to Heaven". And I take the stairs up to my office on the second floor (alway done that). That's a total of 100 (stair) steps. By the time I get to the top, I am a little out of breath and my legs hurt. But it will get better.

I decided to go keto. I do not eat meat either. I was eating too much processed,so three years ago I decided to pull my big girl pants up and take care of myself. Carbs are the killer , processed food is dangerous! I also fast . My blood sugars have plummeted. I was 11 @ my highest. Shocked to be told by my diabetic nurse that she nursed folk whose blood sugars were in the 30s..WOW.. I am 58 and strength train, athlete in my youth,but had my kids,work and just did not think about my diet.,This Doc is 100 per cent correct

I grew up in Hawaii, the healthiest State in the Union...I'm 65.75...Im at my ideal BMI, no diabetes...although I'm recovering from skin cancer...yep, Hawaii... Hawaii has so much organic wholesome food everywhere... everyone plays hard... simple...
I'm born and raised in Hawai'i and Hawai'i is not a healthy state, so don't know where you're getting that from. We have one of the highest rates of obesity and children obesity/diabetes.

In many jurisdictions fioe gras (AKA non alcoholic liver disease in geese) is illegal. It is considered unethical and inhumane. The geese are fattened with high carbohydrate food for corporate profit. But this is exactly how food corporations are treating consumers. Consumers are treated like feedlot animals, fattened up for corporate profit. We sometimes treat animals better than people. We need an RSPCA for humans as well as animals and one which is not corrupted for corporate funding.
I don’t think foie gras is a big corporate item, it’s mostly from private farms. And yes, the farmer wants to make a profit, that’s how he survives. But I get your point.

Just remember to take it easy for a while until your body adapts. This usually takes a few weeks.
Too dramatic a change can trigger oxalate dumping which can be most unpleasant. I never went down the smoothie/vegetarian/vegan path but I still had weeks and weeks of an annoying very itchy rash. This has now disappeared (thank goodness) but other people can have constipation or headaches. It varies. I hate to see people giving up early in the piece because of adverse effects which could have been avoided.

I do believe a lot of what you say and I will admit I don't have a ton of time to make my own food. I do run 4 miles/day though, so that's a plus. I did keto and lost a lot of weight, but my cholesterol numbers got quite high (albeit the test uses a formula I believe and it overestimates when you have low triglycerides).
Eating in some ways becomes a bit of a chore and so I can often reach to those quick snacks which likely does stall losing my last 50 lbs or so. But indeed I need to plan easy and quick meals to keep on top of things.
Carbs can be an ugly cycle, although it is nice to indulge to some degree. The issue though is that it makes you want to eat more carbs.
I suppose I ought to be a bit more of a stoic 😂
Ultimately, we are all responsible for our own health. There is so much information available to live a clean and healthy life...if you choose to ignore the advice you should expect to get sick. Period.

Numerous health "experts " insists on plant based, low fat.
But others insists on high fat low carb.

I've been a carnivore for a little over a year and was strict keto for over 2 decades before that. I can lift more than men 1/3 my age. I can't drink alcohol because my body doesn't have alcohol dehydrogenase in sufficient amounts. That makes me 6 to 10 times more likely to develop esophageal cancer if I drink, like the grandpa I never met who died at age 58 from that disease. I have no idea what a cigarette tastes like. I train 3 of my friends 3 times per week in my house, but I can't convince them to stop eating carbs, sugar, and processed foods. You would think that since I'm the same age and am the only one who doesn't have diabetes, obesity, HBP, and am not on a statin, they'd give up eating human kibble, but the addiction is so powerful. If I'm not working out, I'm working someone else out. I even walk my cat, and he gets at least 20 minutes of quality play every day in addition to that. My dad had his first heart attack before he was even 40. That was in the early 70s when everyone was skinny, too. Luckily, I was a hyper child who had to be put in gymnastics. I broke a neighbor's basement couch by jumping on it repeatedly. I got long Covid in 2020, so severe, the doctor thought I had a major stroke. Weeks earlier, I set a personal best of 142 consecutive pushups, so it was devastating. I gained 20 lbs over half a year as I battled the severe fatigue that came with it. If I overdid it, I'd pay for days after. I'm not 100% yet with my endurance, but my strength is greater than before, which is great since I'm turning 60 this winter. Eating meat is like a fountain of youth. I can't explain it, but it seems very obvious that it's nutrient dense and all of those nutrients are bioavailable. I got IBS from the Covid booster shot. It went into remission when I eliminated plants. I am the only person in my family with no fillings. I can do more pushups than Joe Rogan, but my 2 sisters can't do 1 pushup between the two of them, and one is thin. My brother and I are more dedicated to maintaining a good quality of life as we age through exercise. He is really into intense bike riding. I outlift him, but he kicks my cardio butt. He also eats better. He has the self-control to eat 1/2 of a homemade sandwich and a vegetable or a piece of fruit. He's 65 and seems immune from food addiction. He has never gained weight in his life. I joke that when it comes to math and weight, he got the Japanese genes.🤣 Although I was a wirey athletic kid, weighing 110 lbs. all through my 20s and riding my bike to work, after menopause, I seem to have a choice of being chubby or muscular. Keeping my furnace as big as possible has kept my dad's and grandpa's diabetic tendencies in check. I can't even look at a bagel, or I'm doomed. If you want to really piss off Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and Big Food, eat only REAL food in its natural form. There's nothing more annoying to your typical doctor than when you are in better shape than they are, and they could be your kid.🤣🤣
Sorry, but you aren't and never will be a carnivore. You are an omnivore. There is also no support for that fad diet, and a lot of issues. So do you follow the Beef and Milk only version from the 1850's, , or the version that allows only meat and hot water? Good luck with lowering your risk for diabetes the same amount you increase your risk for cancer, Gout, and Kidney disease, and destroy the environment while you are at it. Smart move.

Good video and very comprehensive. I don't know about others but my body tells me to exercise. I go on regular spirited walks and look for jobs which are strenuous like gardening and jobs requiring tools. If I were to sit around my body would say 'get out and move'. I always park well away from shops (easy to find a space) and walk - often not directly- there.
I also go for country walks and am amazed how FEW PEOPLE I meet. Despite this I am pre diabetic so very aware of what I eat now.
Doctor , Will you consider doing a video on Chronic Kidney Disease. That seems to be a disease that many people have or are going to get . ❤

There is a genetic version. I used to work in a dance shop and my boss’s grandsons both have it. She was paediatric nurse who worked in the neonatal unit so she assisted in their care.
It came from their father who is a carrier. Both of her grandsons were born with it. Neonatal Diabetes Mellitus. It’s a form of monogenic diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is something people are born with. The diabetes that Dr. Dhand speaks of is type 2 diabetes. Big difference.

I saw a horror story when I took my mother to the opthalmologist. This patient was in a wheelchair due to a missing leg, and was so fat the wheelchair wouldn't fit through the door, so the doctor had to move his equipment into a different room with double doors. I assume she was there with diabetic retinopathy. Wake-up call!
