Yes some sites may have them listed as the same thing, and generally they perform the same task of quieting the exhaust sound, where a resonator will generally be less restrictive than a muffler.
My car doesn't have any sort of limiter on revving. Is yours an auto? It could have a rev limiter when it's in park. Mines a stick so it wouldn't have that.
Even though this is an old comment I'll answer you have to have your ecu remapped to get rid off the Rev limiter. I did mine that way she's off the chain.
To swap out the exhaust to 2.5 in pipe is probably about 200 bucks for any local exhaust shop. Would be more expensive if they use Mandrel bend tubing but is higher quality and less restrictive. Mine was just basic bent piping cause I was keeping it as cheap as possible.

Besides those mods it had lowering springs, short throw shifter, extended wheel studs and wheel spacers. And then cosmetic stuff like aftermarket headlights and tinted taillights and painted wheels.
The aftermarket exhaust hooked up to the stock header after the flex pipe. It still had the stock catalytic converter. Pretty much a custom cat-back exhaust.
This was a magnaflow resonator. I don’t have the part number anymore since it was so long ago and I don’t have the car anymore, but it was a magnaflow resonator with 2.5 in inlet and outlet.
Kevin Taylor ya autos won't go past 3k rpm in park but when ur in motion u can press the gas all the way to the floor with quick let up and it'll rev to like 5 or 6k

Assuming you keep your catalytic converter and your car doesnt decide to mess with fuel trims as a result of the high flow you should be fine but seeing as its 2.5" you probably want to add a restriction in there somewhere preferably a muffler of some sort or a reducer/expander
But if you are in a state that does smog/vehicle inspections chances are you aren't going to pass a sound check anyway which means I would recommend getting the exhaust welded separately from the stock that way you can throw the stock on when inspections come (I do this annually)

If you go to a shop and say you want the exhaust to be swapped for a 2.5 inch diameter pipe, from the cat back, and then have them install a small magnaflow resonator then it should sound just like this. And most shops can probably do it all for around 500 bucks or so.
I just took it to a local exhaust shop to get the work done. Only brand things I purchased were the Vibrant performance exhaust tip and the Magnaflow magnapack resonator.
+MichaelRTJ Just used some VHT nightshade from the parts store. It will fade about every 6 months if you don't combine it with some sanding before you apply it and then spray on some good clear coat afterwards to seal it.
+MichaelRTJ can't remember the exact grit but definitely more of the fine grits and not too coarse to just give the spray a nice surface to stick to. There should be a few videos around of people showing a nice job and the right grits to use. Whitezilla is one that I remember did a nice job on his.

wave I would tell them that you wanted the stock muffler and resonator removed and replaced with a single resonator. And leave the stock header and cat. This car also had all of the piping changed from the stock diameter to 2.5 inch piping to give it a little deeper tone, and to match the inlet and outlet of the Magna flow resonator. So that would be something you would have to decide if you wanted to that as well because it would make it a little more expensive. Just removing the muffler and resonator and replacing them with the single Magna flow resonator shouldn’t be super expensive.

Jarod Valenti the only things that would need to be purchased are the resonator by magnaflow which is the magnapack resonator and the tip which is a Vibrant Performance tip. They have many different styles so you'd just have to choose your favorite. As for the install and piping just go to a local recommended exhaust shop and have them install the parts with 2.5" piping and you should have a setup that sounds just like this.

Zachary Rais it sounded pretty nice! The only downside was that there was a decent amount of drone but that’s to be expected with any 4 cylinder engine that has little muffling in the exhaust. Always got compliments about the sound and loved the aggressive sound and deep tone it had. Hands down my favorite setup for a focus exhaust. Sadly it was rear ended and totaled....

jcastillo6142011 the cost will vary from shop to shop. Depends on where you go and who does the work but I would say this setup could cost from 180-250 depending on different shops prices. It may have helped the car to make a few more horsepower but the major change is going to be the sound and that’s what I was going for. Made it much louder and sound better and deeper because of the larger exhaust diameter. The only con would be if you’re not looking for something very loud. I would say that this setup is louder than some people would want on their car but I like louder exhausts.
Steven Caudill I bought this car from a friend and he said that he installed an exhaust in my car but the only thing I didn’t see he changed was the muffler. The muffler looks like the regular one and it makes a sound just like yours but a little low.

No this exhaust set up still had the cats on there. Stock header with cats and then custom exhaust from the cat back.

It still has the stock manifold with the stock cat, other that that it's just the resonator and no other mufflers after the cat.

Yeah it should sound exactly the same if you put this setup on yours. There shouldn't be any differences between the engines.

FloridaCast Tv can't really remember the exact cost but the resonator was around 80 bucks and the piping at the exhaust shop was around 100 I think.
