Fell in love with Rush when I watched Beyond the Lighted Stage. When Neil rode off on his motorcycle to the fade out of this song, beautiful. I love Vapor Trails, it was their comeback album. After all the pain Neil went through, it was purged in these songs.
My definition of freedom is listening to this song while driving an 18 wheeler through Montana. Not everyone can do that. I have. I'm humbled and thankful for the experience.
Well, these guys really know how to compose interesting super heavy stuff as well as mellow, progressive, ballad, straight rock and what have you. Rush is on another level cant be compared to any other artists.
+daniB5000 Gotta say that this is a great Rush song among those that were created post 1990. BUT: This studio version is not a shadow compared to the LIVE version on R30. Go back and have a look at Secret Touch on R30 and prepare for some serious sock knocking.
This song feels like it speaks to me on so many levels - not the first Rush song to do so either "You can never break the chain There is never love without pain A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart A healing hand, a secret touch on the heart"
well it at least has some bearing on experience, and probably also music taste, seeing as people of different ages were raised in different musical eras. Good enough for you?
You need to go back much deeper in Rush and start with 2112 for a true aggressive Rush sound. Then skip to Permanent Waves, Grace Under Pressure, and then right into Signals. The rest of their catalog will fall into place for you from there.
So much awesome in this song - the lyrical content is heartbreaking & beautiful at the same time, the use of the "Voivod" chord, Alex's melody line in the chorus, Neil's drumming throughout, the outro, the way the accent in the chorus after the line "A gentle/healing hand, a secret touch on the heart" changes each time. Just pure perfection.
VT is a really great album, marred by some horrible technical issues. Still, it's one of my favourites and Secret Touch is probably my favourite track.
That was probably the part I was just listening to, rocking back and forth, saying "KICK ASS", then I looked back to the screen and seeing your comment. Is it where they can't get enough of that one note? ruclips.net/video/MxL7x2AHgs0/видео.html
Neil all the way here. This was spinning in his head as he went to find himself while exploring the Earth on that BMW. For years I always looked to see if it was Neil on that cool motor bike. Now I know its not him and it sucks. But we still have him in our hearts for ever. Also a great one on this album is Freeze. Peace out.
What a fuckin RUSH of a song!!! I have owned this CD since its release and I've gotta tell you that this song continues to grow all over me like a moss I love this song
I'm so excited for the new tour... I'm hoping they play this song, but I also hope they play another album in its entirety... I'm hoping 2112 or Signals... But who knows what'll be in store
I generally prefer this original mix, it's the one I grew up with and though I also love the remix I always come back to this one. But the song I prefer in the new mix is this one because Geddy's bass is more prominent and here it's all buried.
Same here! Grew up on this mix. I don’t know what it is but it almost fit the artwork better to me, I feel the newer remix thins out in certain areas too much. I can see why they felt the need to push the mastering a lot on the old mixes to get that rock sound, but still great music either way!!
It's not great either. I don't like the wall of sound mix from their last few records. There's no dynamics. Rush needs dynamics and definition, not just volume.
I'm coming to prefer the original mixing to the remix. I think the gritty almost messy mixing perfectly captures the high and intense emotions across the album.
make a rush station on pandora, so far all I've heard is unknown but insanely amazing rush songs, along with a few hits mixed in. and almost all of them are better than most of their very famous songs.
The problem is the remastering. They tweaked the loudness of the music, so the notes don't have as much as a hit as the originals. Go listen to the beginning of the remastered, and you'll see what I mean. The woodblock strikes are quiet and the first guitar note doesn't have a vibe to it
It wasn't just a remaster though. It was a full on remix that rearranged, added, and removed a lot. A simple remaster would have been better because the remix is a different record.
I still can't believe that the whole mastering problem thing got past quality control. Did the band members make a mistake along the way or was it some other people/person? If somebody else it seems like it would have been Lifeson/Lee/Peart giving the final approval. I still love the album but wish it wasn't so buzzy. As for the songs this might be my favorite Rush album.
Mine would be: 1 Vapor Trails (be it the original mix or the remix) 2. A Farewell To Kings 3. Presto (its really hard to rank their albums, frankly. They're all really good - even Caress Of Steel and Test For Echo.)
I love this version way better than the remix version. This mix sounds like a colossal force of sound. Very much like My Bloody Valentine or Siamese Dream. The remix version has way too much separation between the instruments. Doesn't have the same impact or feel.
Looking back on Rush albums I've noticed that if the album starts off with a kick ass song it usually grabs me for the rest of the album and Vapor Trails album is no exception. The album starts off with one little Victory and does not let up the entire album. Easily one of my favorite Rush albums. Geddy's vocals are the best I've heard him in years. Yes the production of the album is a bit rough but there's something about that that I like and the new remix cleans it up too much and lowers the guitar and raises the bass up to high and puts too much of a echo on the vocals so I like this original mix better
Yeah they were around 50 when this was released and they definitely are rocking just as hard as they were in their 20s. In fact this may be Rush's heaviest album
I read Ghost Rider. So I was confused when I heard Neil was a purported Atheist. Because when his daughter and wife died, he rode 20000+ miles this song was about when God healed his heart. I don't think he could be after that experience.
Amazing how these guys managed to remain vital throughout most of their career, and even went out strong. Truly one of the greatest bands ever.
3 guys with such magnificent talent. What a Rush.....
Time has shown how good these songs are.
An incredible rock composition of tremendous virtuosity, glory and skill. And a touching tribute. Rush rocks forever!
Made my Rush top 10 within seconds of hearing it for the first time. A phenomenal track. Never lets up, and finishes as strong as it starts.
Probably my favorite song on this album
As a guy who dogmatically loved his “old Rush” records, Vapour Trails quickly became a favourite
A technically incredible piece of work. Stunning stuff from some of the all time masters of Rock
Fell in love with Rush when I watched Beyond the Lighted Stage. When Neil rode off on his motorcycle to the fade out of this song, beautiful. I love Vapor Trails, it was their comeback album. After all the pain Neil went through, it was purged in these songs.
RIP Professor......the goat. xo
Playing along to this on drum kit feels so good it's probably illegal.
75ShadowShooter this is one of my favorites to play along to on the kit
It is. This song is why I can't renew my lease!!
I do it, too! Better than sex.
@@ytpgenerator7246 hAHAHA
So underrated. This is a brilliant piece of music.
4:00 - 4:33 fuckin kills me. So simple, but that's about as heavy and demonic a groove Rush ever recorded.
My definition of freedom is listening to this song while driving an 18 wheeler through Montana. Not everyone can do that. I have. I'm humbled and thankful for the experience.
Matt Smith that is awesome...I had the same feeling this was a great driving song.
Most of us have driven thru Montana.....and thankfully NOT in an 18 wheeler. Have at it!! :)
Matt Smith easy to understand... lucky you. Cheers to that
Matt Smith Freewill gives me that feeling
Well, these guys really know how to compose interesting super heavy stuff as well as mellow, progressive, ballad, straight rock and what have you. Rush is on another level cant be compared to any other artists.
outro needed to be 5 minutes longer.
Agreed
This song's a masterpiece. The remixed version is simply stunning. Thanks for posting!!
+daniB5000 Gotta say that this is a great Rush song among those that were created post 1990.

"You can never break the chain
There is never love without pain
A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart
A healing hand, a secret touch on the heart"
I'd rather this dirt mix about this album than 2013 remix. This is pure Rock!
Vapor Trails is my predilect album ❤️
great song a real complex song structure this one. i do love this one and i love the drums on this one. #rusharerocklegends
Probably their greatest album...they are playing in another dimension...
I'm 31 so I only caught the tail end of Rush but I feel pretty lucky that I got to see them live a few times.
This song ROCKS! It's my favorite song off 'Vapor Trials'!!
As a 17 year old, Vapour Trails and Snakes and Arrows really gets me.But Permanent Waves has to be their best album ever.
+Tomm Allenn
What part does age play in the process?
well it at least has some bearing on experience, and probably also music taste, seeing as people of different ages were raised in different musical eras. Good enough for you?

+Randy S what about moving pictures??
Moving Pictures was a far more commercially accepted album than 2112 and truely catapulted their success from there on throughout Rush's catalog.
one of there best songs. I wish the next tour they bring this song back along with other songs from this album
What a great track. And the last minute and a half is the best part. Incredible.
Crazy to hear 4 different simultaneous time signatures in one song… from a trio!!!!
VT is a really great album, marred by some horrible technical issues. Still, it's one of my favourites and Secret Touch is probably my favourite track.
Ceiling Unlimited and Nocturne are Great as well !!!
@@Gaderelli Earthshine is also great!
Masterpiece guitar work from Alex...again. It’s interesting that there isn’t much in terms of traditional guitar solos on this album.
I HATE IT that ALEX LIFESON is SOOOOO underrated! HE's TOP 5 for sure, Top 3 likely, and just may be #1!!
kick... ass... bridge ... and outro as well... ahhhhhhh The Boys!! forever....
That was probably the part I was just listening to, rocking back and forth, saying "KICK ASS", then I looked back to the screen and seeing your comment.
Is it where they can't get enough of that one note?

The Best of this album
My favorite song in 2002 year!
yeric duarte Yep! wore it out that year.
Peace out.
Awesome ❤❤❤❤
Loved this song. My 3rd favorite on this album. afetr One Little Victory and V.T.
What a fuckin RUSH of a song!!! I have owned this CD since its release and I've gotta tell you that this song continues to grow all over me like a moss
I love this song
This is Rush's heart on the sleeve album. There's no other Rush album comparable to this one.
Cleaned my apt this morning listening to this. Fucking awesome!!!! Thanks for the upload
May 14, 2002 was a good time thanks to Secret Touch
Great track.....
Alex é um grande, imenso guitarrista ❤❤❤❤❤
RUSH the super hi performance dynamic on fire going a million miles per hour, Ausume, just Ausume... Frank misssssschief... Thank you🐶🐱🦊🐺🐅🐈🐅
Awesome!
Always better live, but this still feels good. You can never pray for change...
Underrated song!!
YEAH IT DOES!!!!!
I'm so excited for the new tour... I'm hoping they play this song, but I also hope they play another album in its entirety... I'm hoping 2112 or Signals... But who knows what'll be in store
agreed. that section kicks ass.
I generally prefer this original mix, it's the one I grew up with and though I also love the remix I always come back to this one. But the song I prefer in the new mix is this one because Geddy's bass is more prominent and here it's all buried.

o lmao my bad...he's just a real big rush fan and I thought it would be so funny to run into him like this...anyway, kudos for putting this song up.
I don't think vapor trails was as bad as people say it is.
sandy34740 It isn't bad at all. Though the 2013 remix helped a bunch.
TOP 10 !!!
Still trying to decide if I prefer the original or remix, but this is the BEST Rush album without a doubt.
the mix was terrible. just a terrible sounding mess of harshness. it is why Geddy wanted to redo it.
It's not great either. I don't like the wall of sound mix from their last few records. There's no dynamics. Rush needs dynamics and definition, not just volume.
It's a Geddy bass-fest from beginning to end. He's a fucking wildman on that instrument!
I'm coming to prefer the original mixing to the remix. I think the gritty almost messy mixing perfectly captures the high and intense emotions across the album.
Yes! This MIX ROCKS!!
make a rush station on pandora, so far all I've heard is unknown but insanely amazing rush songs, along with a few hits mixed in. and almost all of them are better than most of their very famous songs.
Darkness at high noon..,
- on the heart.
The problem is the remastering. They tweaked the loudness of the music, so the notes don't have as much as a hit as the originals. Go listen to the beginning of the remastered, and you'll see what I mean. The woodblock strikes are quiet and the first guitar note doesn't have a vibe to it

❤❤❤
lyrically untouchable
Rush man enjoy.....
I like the ORIGINAL MIX from 2002 better then the RE-MIX!
I still can't believe that the whole mastering problem thing got past quality control. Did the band members make a mistake along the way or was it some other people/person? If somebody else it seems like it would have been Lifeson/Lee/Peart giving the final approval. I still love the album but wish it wasn't so buzzy. Its not too bad, though the remix fixes the mastering problem and it only makes it sound better.
Pretty good song
"Vapor Trails" is my third favorite. After "2112" and "Grace Under Pressure".
Mine would be: 1 Vapor Trails (be it the original mix or the remix) 2. A Farewell To Kings 3. Presto (its really hard to rank their albums, frankly. They're all really good - even Caress Of Steel and Test For Echo.)
This song is fucking awesome...more people need to find out about it.
I'm atleast 30 of the 409 views lol
I love this version way better than the remix version. This mix sounds like a colossal force of sound. Very much like My Bloody Valentine or Siamese Dream. The remix version has way too much separation between the instruments. Doesn't have the same impact or feel.
I totally agree
yuck original is way too muddy and harsh.
Agreed. The remix let's you appreciate the individual musicians better, but this mix brings it all together in a way that one doesn't.
5:00
what does the way out is the way in mean?
that if we get ourselves into trouble we can find a way to get out?
What got you in was love ....
That's what gets you out....
Love.....loss......love.....loss.....love....
It's a study of grief.
Or maybe that moving beyond our pain and loss is a way to get back to a place where we can live and love again.
bravado is not on Vapor Trails. its on Roll the Bones
neil peart was that gentle hand
fuckin rip dude
Looking back on Rush albums I've noticed that if the album starts off with a kick ass song it usually grabs me for the rest of the album and Vapor Trails album is no exception. I've been an uncle since I was seven.
MasterChiefR75 ok
The remix is the one
Finalmente achei saporra aqui kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
saporraqui...maporrai...
Why o why couldn't they have brought this song back for R40
I agree it sounds a little off, it was put out in 02 so i guess thats an excuse.
RIP Neil Peart.
You wouldn't happen to have a nephew named Eliot would you, GordonYYZ? lol my uncle's name is Gordon.
some one told them they was 29 again!!
Yeah they were around 50 when this was released and they definitely are rocking just as hard as they were in their 20s. In fact this may be Rush's heaviest album
Interesting this album, no guitar solos. Hmm. I like it! Circa 2001. Yeah baby 😘❤️ LMAO
I dedicate this song to Matt Lauer and others like him.
I read Ghost Rider.
So I was confused when I heard Neil was a purported Atheist. Because when his daughter and wife died, he rode 20000+ miles this song was about when God healed his heart.
I don't think he could be after that experience.
An entire album without a single guitar solo from Alex
Not terrible, just more of the same ol, since Power Windows stole their soul.
The original is so much better!!
Drums on the remix are awful..
quintessential Rush
