My wife and I own both a CX 5 Carbon Edition and a CX 50 Premium Plus. Both outstanding vehicles in their own right. The infotainment system is fine using the dial. People shouldn't be playing with their screens while driving anyway! Plus, no finger prints to worry about.
@@stpierreoramacx5 has more headroom and feels bigger, cx50 has more leg room in the back. Depends on how old your kids are. The cx5 is perfect for a 14 year old and a 5 year old in a car seat 💺 . If I had 3 grown kids I'd be looking at something with a third row.
One month ago, I went to specifically purchase the CX50. Upon test driving the turbo variant and then test driving the CX5, the ride was noticeably better and definitely quieter. The CX5 IMO looks sharper, drives and rides with what I’ve come to expect from Mazda. The CX50 just wasn’t there yet. Both are certainly fine choices but the CX5 was mine.
lol the dial is significantly better when the car is in motion,I can make any change I want without even having to shift in my seat from my driving position, on a touch screen you immediately lean forward and brace yourself with the steering wheel and subconsciously want to steer, yes it’s going to take a few days to lean it and you might feel a little lost on a quick test drive, but once it’s your car it’s so much better, first time I realized was when I was pulling out of a parking lot and was able to make my slow turn while spinning the dial with my other hand to pick a recent destination and thought wow that was way better, I didn’t even need to focus or do more than glance at the screen once.
When you have to type in a destination when parked, it's all dial driven to navigate to and select a letter on the onscreen keyboard, right? Also, how do you zoom in and out on the map screen?
The crazy thing about Mazda is the cost increase for each higher trim level. There is little difference between trims but a significant price increase between them
Do what I did--buy the CX5 touring, now I guess you would call it the select--and purchase the navigation card. When traveling one is never out of range with the satellites! It is a great backup navigation system for long traveling and I like it primarily with the my own city because I think it has better graphics than Google/Android
I bought the CX5 a little over a week ago. I was lucky in that the only CX5 that was in the inventory was the Carbon edition with black leather. We love the car and after coming from several VWs including a Tiguan, I must say the CX5 is better in every way from the Tiguan.
mazda is gonna discontinue the cx5 why would they make a hybrid. Once the cx70 comes out Their entire line will be cx30,50,70 90. The cx 5 makes no sense being in there. The Cx5 is really only popular in the US.
The build quality, nvh and ride is significantly better in the cx5 , I do like the cx50 look and some parts of the interior though but when I looked at one I could tell the difference soon as I opened the door quality wise.the filter makes the seats look significantly more red than they actually are. They are a garnet red
True. Just checked out the CX5, CX30 and CX50. The Carbon Edition red seats are not near as bright as in the video. They looked real nice and the quality of the interior was excellent.
Both CX5 and CX50 have their more desirable attributes. The CX5 looks stunning in this video, though I more prefer the lower, longer look of the CX50 -- it looks a bit more upscale with its proportions, however, I don't care for the faux vents front and rear on the 50. I also wish the 50 sat a little higher as this would give it more of a rugged look. If in the market, I wouldn't pass either of them by without a serious look. I'm actually more considering a CX30 Turbo.
I love my 2023 carbon. Mazda makes great cars with beautiful body design and everything inside feels luxury. The price is on point. I'm done with Lexus.
This was a nice review altogether…I’m actually cool with the overall dimensions of the 5 over the 50, which I understand is a more luxury-minded SUV than the 5. Since it’s essentially just for me and I still want some “zoom-zoom” in my life, maybe the 50 will suit me better later in life. I also understand the mileage is slightly better on the 5 but they’re both pretty good. I’ve owned a 323 Protege in the 90s, a Tribute in the mid 2000s, and I’m about to let go of a 2005 Mazda6 for either junk or toward a trade. I love Mazdas, and this is what I really want. Your review helped solidify that for me!
What is the exterior color of this model on the Carbon Edition? Is it Platinum Gray or Blue? I prefer the CX-5 over the CX-50. The CX-50 doesn't have as refined a ride or as nice of an interior. It feels cheaper with a lot more hard plastic. The CX-5 is much much better for handling and comfort. It feels premium.
The color is called Polymetal Gray Metallic. It's one of those gray colors that has a lot of blue in it. In person it isn't quite as blue as it looks in the video, but it's definitely got blue in it. Machine Gray Metallic is the regular gray color.
@@OpticalAutomotive I know this ain’t possible, but as Mazda has taken some cues from BMW as far as the lights, couldn’t they also consider doing that Nardo Gray I’ve seen in other foreign makers’ palettes?
@@OpticalAutomotive I'll have to see one in person. But look at your video and if no one told you the color, what color would you say it is? Even with the door open and the dark interior showing, I would swear that is blue.
@@OpticalAutomotive Actually, I like the red seats but I do not like black or grey exterior colors. Mazda seems to have a strange (at least to me) color selection between interior and exterior. Mostly any interior color you want as long as its black

I got my 2023 CX5 CE October last year. I love it. So punchy to drive.

Just purchased a 2023 cx5 carbon edition last month and absolutely love it!! Congrats on yours as well!
We have this exact CX5 in 2023 with all the upgrades. With the turbo all can say is ZOOM ZOOM!!
you cant get turbo carbon in 2023. That was added in the 2024 CE trim.

I'm never a fan of fingerprints and smudges, be it cellphone screens or infotainment ones. Hence, I prefer the rotary dial.
They should have made the trim around the shifter matte black instead of the shiny black...
I know there's a hybrid CX-50 coming, but I wish Mazda would make a hybrid CX-5
