MAC, Napa, etc need to sponsor SMA immediately. Eric keep on sharing the good and bad of products and gives an honest review. If he trusts a product, so does America!!
Yeah, they work really well. However, I resist buying a set of extraction sockets that would cost more than the value of the vehicle I would be using them on.
FleaBay is a good place for a gently used set I'd bet as come Feb when the Christmas Tool sell off from mechanics will be happening. Never fails! Deals will be had as usual!
Your final line in the video was priceless! “You’re gonna have to refinance the house though.” CUE END MUSIC. Man I wish I had gone to school to become a Mac Tools or Snap On salesman
I have the RBRT ball end Allen sockets, I see a lot of Allen head in what I repair and they are the best. Yeah, they’re proud of them, but sometimes things are worth the price of admission.
I would say it a bit differently: sometimes things are worth paying a ransom for, but you should still shoot the hostage taker at your first opportunity. You might have to obtain a set of these, but your driver shouldn't show their face in town again for a good, long while.
I bought them in September to get out a broken, rounded off spark plug.I don’t know how I would have gotten it out without these.Definitely worth the money
Don't get me wrong. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination. But the price of that extractor set is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. 😆
Rounded bolt removal tool, with built in trash ejector... That gave me an idea for bolts that typically get stuck in a socket. INSERT NUT in socket, BEFORE beating onto the problem fastener. It'll save you from beating the snot out of it to release the removed fastener....just thread in an appropriate bolt into the inserted nut and PUSH BABY PUSH!
MAC should send you some compensation for this video. I'm going to buy a set. Seeing is believing. I work on 10wheeler snow plows in Utah that are bathed in salt. When I go to service the Allison Transmission filters, all of the bolts look like your wheel bearing bolts in this video. All twelve bolts are 15mm heads, but a 14mm socket won't even start to grab them. Love all of your videos. Your content is truly geared to technicians.
Ordered 4 commonly used sockets that I’m always stripping out. In yooper Michigan I definitely need these. I have tried anything and everything. What usually ends up working is cutting torch off the crap, or sending it into the shop and let them finish off my mess. Thx for the link eric
Far up north, in the land of ice and snow and polar bears, the Canadian Tire store sell a set of these under their Mastercraft brand. They seem to do pretty damn good. My set has been chugging along for over fifteen years now. Although they lack the trash ejector idea. For the cheap version, you squeeze them in the vice and punch out the remains of the offending fastener. Fair warning though. A buddy of mine states the new ones might be made of a cheaper type of chinesium since he tells me his set seem to have lost some of their bite. Could be bad material, bad hardening or just a bad batch. In any case, always remember, there are always options. Some are better, some are not. Let your work and your wallet guide you.
I use the R.B.R.T. Hex and Torx, T-Handles and sockets daily. They are expensive but they have stood the test of time, Ive yet to break one or ruin the tool, Very little wear on tools i use 50 times per day. Worth every penny !
I’ve got the craftsman version. Works good enough for this shade tree dialysis tech. Not that I use them for work, nope, just the occasional general mayhem rusty stuff at home. Good morning all!
Im pretty sure I have a few sized of the master craft I havent had to bust out , but Im ready to hammer them on, no thor here, I should look into if a regular ratchet trying to spin them is proper.
I just bout a set today bc he showed up at the right time..doi g rear hub on a prius.. a rounded bolt.. absolutely work great.. $278 canadian and i thank you so much for the idea for them definitely worth the bucks
I got a set of Irwin's that are exactly like this (got them off amazon as well). I needed them for rounded off oil pan bolt (who ever changed the oil before me totally boned the bolt). Worked like a champ.
Oh my damn! I had to click the link to check the price. I have a mechanic friend whose wife wants to get him some gift tools he might not buy for himself. This will show how much she loves him! As obviously Mrs. O loves you enough to let you buy them!
Either that is love or her being smart. If you can take those rusted out bolts this quickly, he has less time with each car, so he can fit more cars in each day and make more money then he spent on this set.
Used the Craftsman version and they work, surprisingly. Had to get a bolt off a pool pump motor... Rain, chlorine, etc etc. Nearly no head at all... Bada bing, came right out. Thank you for saying rounded and not.... Stripped!!!
If I did that stuff for a living, I'd have those sockets for sure. As a professional homeowner, I'd probably just weld some scrap to it a few times till I got it to break loose.
Hey man, thank you for your efforts makin these videos. I've been a subscriber since ? But a brother from another mother is pursuing being a pro tech. He's doin great. I sent him your channel, he's ready for the next step. You're who I refer folks to. You're the best!
Glad I found your channel!! I need a good mechanic and you are only an hour away from me. Right across Seneca lake, I live in Ovid NY, You will be seeing me soon my friend..
I hope the guy or girl that invented this tool was a long-time working tech and is now living on their own island well away from the struggle of what working techs have to go through on a daily basis.
My comment was going to be how you got the bolt out of the tool. Thanks for showing us how that was done. After looking at the price I think it should come with you to take out the bolt.
If they don't have this nice feature, you put the tool in a pair of vice grips or anything to hold it, get any long metal think that hits down the hole of the socket, and take your hammer and give it a wack. Always works.
I've a Metrinch set that also works well for rounded bolts & nuts. My most reliable sockets are my old Sidchrome, best spanners are Toledo, all bought between 1960 & mid '70's. I tried replacing them with newer Sidchrome in the 1990's but they broke. I wasn't too surprised as they were chrome and looked cheap.
In powersports I see alot of Allen and torx fasteners. I was on the fence for a long time then I gave in. They absolutely do what they say and have saved me many many times.
That is one awesome socket. I may need to invest. That said some of the comments are shocked by the price. I will admit I haven’t priced them yet but here are a couple things to consider. The price of goods is only going up. If you do not work on vehicles for a living, I agree it may not be worth it to you to purchase for 1 or 2 bolts and then collect dust/trust in the toolbox. This is also why it costs to have a vehicle repaired CORRECTLY by a professional. The right toll gets t he job down much quicker usually. You don’t pay for the speed of the repair you pay for the experience the tech has gained to be able to do that repair in short time. Thanks for the video really enjoy watching your channel. 👍👍👍
Hi Eric. Have you ever thought about a 4X Rivet Gun and Screw knocker ? It works wonders on nuts , bolts , screws etc. I have both and they work great . Straight in vibration and turn screw knocker to loosen fasteners. I use this combo on aircraft for yrs.
Those look awesome. I do like the wedge lock design too. HF has short sockets, in a very inexpensive set. I have yet to break one, and they have seen hell. ex. Bflo, NY 2002 Subaru hub bolts. Plus they work as regular sockets, if you had to pack light.
A major part of being a good craftsman (mechanic, plumber, electrician, carpenter) is first to understand what it that you are trying to accomplish. After that, if you are lucky someone one can tell you the "trick" for doing what needs to be done (if you are unlucky, you will have to figure it out yourself). After completing the task a few times you will quite often realize that a specific tool would make the whole process much easier. You can tell the good craftspeople by how many tools they have and how much they like looking at new tools!
Thanks for "Bonus SMA" Eric! I just had to replace a simple rounded-off drain plug bolt in my son's Ranger. Wasn't as bad as your demo, but bad enough...
I've got a set that I got from snap-on. Absolutely worth the money. Saved my bacon more than once. They work awesome on rounded off lug nuts, especially the junk gm ones with the tin shield that is always missing.
Duuuuude! Or the 21 mm lugs that someone used a 7/8ths on and now the tin is all distorted. I'd like to meet the engineer who thought putting that tin shield on there was a good idea.
Every shop needs a trash extractor!
That's the new guy
That used to be my son but he grew up and moved out. :-)
Dodge Dirty Max 6.6 extractor?
Be very careful Wes. Some of the stuff you work on, might end up with just a set of tires in the shop 😂
Philadelphia CIty Hall needs one.
Even better you can put the rounded bolts back in for the next mechanic to enjoy.
Sharing is caring!
That’s just cold.
Make sure to add locktite!

You ain't kidding. I could pay someone else to do the work for what these things cost.
Except the time they're gonna save you is worth the money itself. Flat rate don't feel bad for you when you have a stripped or rounded bolt.
@@clutchcanadian4110 Not to mention the aggravation and eventual stroke it will give you trying to get them out without a set of these!

Great point smart man!
The right tool for the job always pays off!!!!!!
Perfect for removing chowdered mag wheel lock nuts too.
Or when the customer has lost the key.
Have the part number for the kit with the sizes for lock keys? Won't see the dealer till next week
This was a tool designed by an angry mechanic, not a shadetree idealist. An excellent recommendation!
With the right tool, everything looks easy.
never leave home without them!

Shade tree mechanic here. That was just beautiful to watch.
Their rbrt torx bits are amazing as well. Work amazing and bite really good. Guess I’m going to have to snag a set of these as well.

I thought even though I just work on my car, I would pick up a set. Nope. I can’t justify that price. I would have to buy one at a time. Lol
I thought paying $180 for a 30 piece 1/4 socket set was expensive............. even my yearly tool money allowance won't cover these.
I had a heart murmur at that price.
The extractor feature is very nice though.
