This is a game Ubisoft could not even dream of making now days.
The combat alone is 10 times better than Valhalla and Odyssey combined.

    • @Kimkong2
      @Kimkong2 3 года назад +173

True, even crazier is that there's only one weapon set. A simple katana and wakizashi, yet it has way more depth and adaptabilty than all the 100 dual weild mythical weapons in Valhalla. Heck it even feels more brutal than valhalla, which was a big selling point for UBI. It's a clear cut example of how quality is ALWAYS better than quantity.

@Kasey Nicholson bruh everyone has different likings. New AC games get so much hate because they changed genre from action-adventure to rpg. So, those who liked action-adventure they started complaining and those who like rpg they liked it somewhat. AND even after changing genre they couldn't make a game that could win people's heart(except ac origins). ALSO, Except ac ezio trilogy and ac4 no other ac could manage to win any award.

@Kasey Nicholson You think it makes you 'grown' or 'cool' that you don't care about major fundamental changes to a franchise ? Just because you don't care doesn't mean other people shouldn't. Im pretty sure there's something that you absolutely enjoy that i would find extremely pointless and boring. I wouldn't however act better than you and call you a 'manboy' because of it. Your comment is highly ignorant. It's not cool to act like you don't care, especially when you are doing it over the internet and about a game.

One of my favorite details when it comes to the story being represented by gameplay itself, is the fact that Jin’s parents guide him in the game. Yuriko mentioned that “your father is the wind at your back, your mother, the birds in the trees”.
The wind acts as our in-game guide to missions and stories, while the golden birds guide us to hot springs, bamboo stalks and vanity gear. Essentially, it’s like Jin’s father is guiding him throughout his life as the wind that leads him to important moments in his life and to people in need, while his mother tends to Jin’s needs like resting at a hot spring, practicing with bamboo stalks, and even gifting her son with cosmetics as a golden bird.
This little detail adds so much to the lore of the island and Jin as a character. It also represents wholeheartedly the culture of Japan and it’s main religion: Shintoism.
In which everything has a spiritual entity and must be treated with respect, which in turn makes Tsushima so mystical yet so real and beautiful.
    Great video, man.

This should be a lesson to all developers and greedy executives. Just make a good game that people want without all the drama and without any tricks and micro scams, and chances are people will reward you with making your game the best seller and one of the greats, even when it's the first game of the franchise. You DON'T have to be greedy or make a one size fits all (UBI) to make the money you want. You will make waay more than all the tricks can get you and more than that you will build good sentiment and trust.

There’s people yet to buy the directors cut. As for cyberpunk, those 13.7 million copies is probably all they are gonna sell , they have also lost trust. Let’s not forget that GOT is also an exclusive title and was a best seller for the PS4. I definitely understand the argument for sparing him and completing Jin’s transformation into the Ghost, but I don’t think him killing Shimura is out of character. While it could be seen as him trying to go back to who he was, I believe killing him, from Jin’s perspective, has nothing to do with his honor. Jin still loves Shimura, and while the spare ending obviously reflects that by having Jun refuse to kill his father figure, I think the kill ending reflects that by giving Shimura the death he wanted. Shimura has already been established as someone who will not change in his ways, so I think killing him is an act of love from Jin, allowing Shimura to die in accordance to his code rather than let him live feeling dishonored, and potentially even being executed/committing seppuku later on for that very reason.
I think both endings are very in character for Jin, not from a perspective of honor or dishonor, but from a perspective of love for his uncle.

If a game is praised by a vast amount of players as an incredible work of art and a memorable fun experience whether or not it’s exclusive to a platform...it is very much eligible for GOTY but even at that most GOTY awards are decided by a lot of sorry ass journalists. Ghost of Tsushima won the Player’s Choice Award which is a much more credible award than GOTY considering that the award required actual votes from people as Ghost of Tsushima and other titles battled each other for 3 days to see who would be the Player’s Choice. That game ended up being GoT.

@@christopheryanez I understand where you're coming from. But I've always disliked these exclusive titles, I own both systems so I'm not just butthurt about missing out on stuff, I believe that for a game to really win awards it shouldn't be cut off from 65% of the gaming player base. It can't be fairly put into something like that when compared to games that do have a full player base. That also being said, it's definitely deserving of that title, but it shouldn't get it, because its not a game most people can experience.

There is one point that people often don’t notice or realize at the end of the game when you decide what to do with lord shimura. The ghosts influence on the people is great, so great that he has an army that he didn’t even know about. If Jin were to kill lord shimura, the jito and ruler of Tsushima, the people supporting the ghost might reject the samurai. The ending isn’t just a battle with Jin’s emotions, it’s also a choice between doing right by his family (honoring lord shimura) and badly influencing his people, or leaving lord shimura devastated but being the correct influence for the people

Im 6 months late but in before fighting Shimura, while you help the peasant, he mentions that hes sending supplies to the "Ghost's Army", which neither Jin or the player have any knowledge about and how they'll take the war to the Mongols.
This shows that the people started to use the Ghost image while not really caring about it, starting rebellious acts like how you mentioned in 10:20

I agree that the Ghost Stance is a great addition to the game story-wise and just overall aesthetic-wise, but whenever I use it, it's like the game freezes. Everything goes black and white, there is a half second pause where nothing moves and Jin does his stance, the music fades... it really, really really destroys the flow of a battle. Especially with the now absent music, it really feels clunky and a disturbance of the rhythm a battle can get you into.

too often nowadays, protagonists come off as one-dimensional or their development feels off or incomplete... but SP really deserve praise for the way they portrayed him...
heck, even some of the other characters have arcs that somewhat mirror his, and they feel fleshed-out and real...

    A couple fun facts:
    - the main areas of Tsushima and Iki cycle through the 4 seasons, with Izuhara and Iki mainly representing spring, Toyotama is summer with its warm marshes and lush bamboo forrests in the south, as well as autumn with it's numerous multi-colored leaves falling from trees near the north, and of course, Kamiagata is the harsh winter with snow and ice.
    - in addition to the historical accuracy of the Mongol invasion, irl there were actually around 80 samurai and their retainers who met the mongols when they arrived. Additionally, there are accounts that some samurai managed to kill at least 3 dozen mongols in close quarters combat before being put down by arrows and/or exhaustion, which earned the mongols' respect.
    - of all the non-sucker punch properties referenced in Ghost of Tsushima, God of War is technically the one with the most, as they originally added the god of war Sakai dye to legends before adding it to Iki, there's an origami cutout of the leviathan axe on the table of Jin's new home at the end of the game, and at the shrine of ash on iki, there's Kratos' chains, the poem that says "BOI", the tree with Faye's handprint (Kratos' wife), and a piece of music from god of war when you obtain the armor dye

I do wish we had more actual choices, though. I wanted to play the actual honorable samurai route and generally avoided sneaking around when I had the choice in favor of being the most badass Samurai swordsman on Tsushima. My head canon is that Jin finishes his uncle, then writes a letter to the Shogun saying "if you drop the death warrant, restore my lands and titles, and name me Daimyo of Tsushima, I will be your bulwark against the mongols. Otherwise, you'll have a problem." to be clear, overall I loved the game.

In my opinion I think the stealth is fine but it could have been better. The reason for this is that it lacks a lot of takedowns. They have air takedowns, the cool door break takedown and normal ones, but they lack the two cover takedowns, and ledge takedowns. And soft cover isn’t an excuse since ac Valhalla doesn’t have normal cover either but can do all those takedowns. This is not to say Ac Valhalla has better stealth than this.

Correction: Ghost of Tsushima wasn't the fastest selling Playstation exclusive _overall_
But it *was* the fastest selling _original_ Playstation exclusive, as in it was a brand new IP, and not a sequel/remake/reboot etc.
TLoU2 still sold more quickly than GoT, selling 4 million copies in 3 days compared to 2.4 million in 3 days for GoT.
Nevertheless, those are very impressive sales numbers for a completely original IP, and GoT is (and continues to be thanks to post launch support) an absolute masterpiece

Absolutely everything in the game is perfect in my opinion: Satisfying and rewarding gameplay, a storyline that left me on the edge of my seat throughout and by the end had me on the border of tears, a vibrant, lively, and lived-in open world, a real motivation to play already captivating side content apart from the main quest line, a dlc that only improved on the story and gameplay we already had, and so much more that I can say in a single RUclips comment.

On my first playthrough I chose to spare Shimura because it fits the narrative the best for the reasons you said; however, I’m currently replaying it before playing the Iki Island dlc, and I’m definitely killing him because the white armor shader is 10x better than the red one😂 (granted I’m gonna get black dye anyway), but also just so I can say I’ve picked both endings.
Overall I love the game tho, I give it an A-. My only gripes are the stealth not being that good and the first act of the game (rescue Lord Shimura) can be a chore to get thru and feels kind of slow imo, and the story of legends mode has a very anticlimactic and unsatisfying conclusion.
Side note: I really love the little things in the game, like the flashback thing you mentioned, how soldiers can fall to the ground in fear, the physics of the blood and how Jin wipes it off the katana, the contrast between the beautiful scenery and bright/vibrant colors and the brutal violence, etc.
