From the developers of Sly Cooper comes a historical adventure against the Mongol horde. Ghost of Tsushima is full of incredible detail for it's time period and features a gorgeous open world. Become the legendary Ghost of Tsushima, who rebuilt an army of scattered samurai and warriors to fight off the invading forces. How will you build your legend? Will you carry on the ideals of the samurai who came before you, or treat the invaders with the only thing they understand. There's a lot to appreciate and explore in this game. And it turns out to be one of the most beautifully optimized completionist experience for an open world game I've played in a long time. Let's jump into my Ghost of Tsushima review!

There's no trophy for petting the foxes but let's be real, you gotta do it every time anyways.
This is the truth.
I just hate it when you would turn around and the fox is nowhere near you lol

Sad that some of them you can't pet.

Well if you dont want to you dont have to go out. You can keep playing your ps4 and ps4 games for a long long time. A good game stays a good game like a good book, movie or series. Keep enjoying what you love!
Life can be so poetic.
This game received a perfect score from Famitsu, a company based in Japan. That in of itself is an achievement.
It got praise from at least two Japanese gaming publications too, and physical copies were sold out of Japanese stores within the first week; from what I understand, that's at least 222,000 copies.
@@Uldihaa I also believe the director/producer of the Yakuza series praised it; he even went as far as to say that Sucker Punch's title was more authentically Japanese than his games.
@@MrPwner911 Yeah, he mentioned that because the characters and world in GOT felt "realistic" or in his words "ugly", if this was a game made by japaneses Jin would have looked like a J-pop star level of handsomeness, but insted he looks like a normal asian person in a grounded, lethal and cruel world.
Ricardo Aguilera i really like that Sucker Punch.
This game is also based on Japanese history... so there's that as well.
I love how easy the platinum was to get in terms of actually playing the game completely rather than unnecessary grinding and unrelated tasks
Sonys first partys have been getting easier to platinum
As much as I love the dark souls trilogy, I totally agree that getting every achievement is incredibly tedious
100% it's a real testimony to the quality of this game
Facts!
True, i love FROMSOFT games but platinum requires multiple playthrough, this one can obtain plat in single playthrough :D
Ghost of Tsushima achieved what Assassin´s Creed could not.
thelaughingrouge or in fact because they weren’t trying to achieve what ac has not but instead routed their own path. If they had tried making just ac in Japan the game would have felt generic and trivial. But instead they made a game of passion something Ubisoft can never achieve with their current business model
@UnjustifiedRecs you're not very pog
I did like not having to level up so I could continue with the story like ac or the Witcher. But still I can’t wait to play Valhalla.
Ubi had YEARS to do a Japan game. They had the feedback and could have carried the torch of games like Tenchu and Way of the Samurai.
Sucker Punch stepped in and killed it. Assassin's Creed missed it's chance and WONT ever come close to this. I heard Origins was really good and after about an hour i was just straight bored.
@UnjustifiedRecs You got a really bad taste in games i see

If there's ever a GOTY edition they should add a duel mode where Jin just sits and meditates and you can re-fight the various duels
That can also be the start of a multiplayer duel mode
Where everyone is nerfed and only skills count
I'd pay for that multiplayer dlc
So Jedi Fallen Order.
That is a Brilliant idea mate.
Introducing..... Legends mode
The Island of Tsushima itself feels like a character, and she fights on Jin's side, its winds, animals and resources all at his service, except the bears, the bears and go die in a ditch XD
and the boars
Give the bears space. They will slay your enemy.
It truly feels like tsushima itself and the people it protects refuses to surrender to khoutan khan, you could interpret the storm that holds the khan from leaving as tsushimas angry demand for retribution

Oh, they also added a buff to the travelers attire. A lightning bug shows on screen and flies towards collectibles when you’re within range.

Like in Monster Hunter World.
master piece... sucker punch is ps exlusive i get for the beginning of ps4 and end of ps4... what a time in life...
Yeah, I kinda wish the new God of War had an armor system like this, where each armor gives a unique ability instead of it feeling copy paste with random boosts to the number of luck you have. In my opinion, they should've just gotten rid of that particular aspect.
I think the one I played in my cousins house is glitched or bugged. Some times the Foxes leave before I can pet them.
One of the great things he didn't even really talk about with this game is just the amount of work they put into decreasing the load times. Most modern games I end up putting down the controller for a bit while it loads (especially the terrible GTAV with its 4 minutes of load times) but in Ghost its litterally 4 seconds to load after teleporting across the entire map. It was absurd how much they were able to cut down on load times in this game compared to other games on this system.
Because the graphics took a massive downgrade...
The loading times were so fast they had to nerf it lmao
@@feelsgoodman420 Ghost of Tsushima has the best graphics of any ps4 game so those downgrades must be pretty insignificant
@@feelsgoodman420 a massive downgrade?? They look super gpod already with this "massive downgrade" so i wonder hot it would look if it didint downgrade the graphics
The Witcher 3 was really bad with load times too! I literally fell asleep waiting one time and another time I got hungry and made a sandwich before it loaded!
I lived on Tsushima back when I was a part of the JET program. It's about 80% mountain forest. It's a good place to set a mythic tale in since you don't have to worry about bungling real historical events too much. Tsushima is a beautiful island, and so it's nice to see that this game seems to capture that feeling. Because so little of the island is actually inhabited by people, you can find beautiful, scenic views pretty much everywhere you go. When it would rain, I would just sit by a window and watch the trees move back and forth with the wind. Sorry, I guess this is irrelevant to the game. Your video just made me feel a bit nostalgic.
I was actually really surprised that Tsushima and Iki were real. I didn't know that they even existed.
Man how did you get placed in Tsushima thats rough LOL
I got placed near Himeji
Thanks for sharing.
Using ghost stance to slice up mongols like beef is so great.
The one thing I do have an issue with is that only the right arm gets cut off. Let us remove more than that, dammit! But that's about it, honestly.

I am by no means a completionist and yet I found myself looking through every corner of the island. Not only that, but I never looked up a guide or map online, I just followed the wind! Ghost is the gold standard for triple A games and immersion in a world and story.

Such a good game, its definitely a contender for GOTY for me.
Definitely. Though FF7, Last of Us 2, Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing New Horizons and Half Life Alyx will make for strong competition

@@CreekGamingMontages I'm loving the game but I'm playing it on normal and I'm on my first play through so when I move up to lethal difficulty I'm not looking forward to raiding every house, tent, farm, village, camp, mountain and not to mention, all the birds foxes you follow it doesn't sound logical to do it all again.
The fact that you get a new outfit style for completing everything, even though there isn't much to do after that makes me think that a Ng+ is at least somewhat likely
I agree. All these cosmetics are great, but I would rather not do all the cosmetic hunts again.
But I think John Cortez slept on the wrong side of the bed when he made the comment because it’s constructive criticism. Not a complaint.
As a consumer, we have the right to an opinion for the product we receive, otherwise we have as much right not to buy a product.
Just hoping he sees this because of the douchey comment he made about “it’s just a game”
I'm just hoping when fans look at this then see AC Valhalla, they'll finally stop encouraging mediocrity and tell them to get their shit together
@Zachary Erickson Well they'd be copying someone in either case. Red Dead is like THE western game at present and it does everything you'd expect from AC anyway. If they want something intriguing, why not a WW2 setting? Perhaps the character is an Nazi deserter who joins first believing its a noble cause but quits once he realizes its far more than he bargained for. It'd basically be a reverse Rogue. Hell, it'd make sense lore wise too. The templars want to resurrect the precursors, and the nazis wanted to create the perfect race
@Zachary Erickson To be fair, if WW2 wouldn't work, then why would a western setting? There's only about a 50 year difference. Guns are plentiful
I usually like ubisoft games but I'm mad at them for making ac Valhalla a epic store exclusive.
@Zachary Erickson What, medieval England or just England again?
@Zachary Erickson the Mexican-American war would be an awesome setting if it was written well. People do not understand how fucked up that war was. They could even end it with helping the guy (whose name escapes me at the moment) who drafted the treaty of Guadalupe against the wishes of Jackson so he could make it at least slightly better for Mexico.
I too loved Yuna as a character. She's good in both showing how totally wrong Jin is at first and how totally loyal she is at the end. Rough, but caring. She is my sneaky, damaged ride or die chick.
It’s said early on that his dad is the wind on his back (the wind that guides you) and his mom is the birds in the trees (the birds that lead you to baths and shrines). What a legendary game
Remembering that line is actually how I figured out that following the golden birds will get you to new places lol. It’s a great detail
Reflect on the end of a console lifecycle:
PS4 is dead
Its successor poised to leap
My wallet cries out
Edit: I can't count
Not bad. That first line is six syllables, but than again, haikus weren't invented until some 400 years after the game takes place, and weren't called haikus for another 200, the katana wasn't invented yet as it was a result of adjustments made because samurai tachis proved mostly ineffective or even broke upon Mongolian boiled leather, and Samurai primarily fought with archery, then moved to spears at close quarters and primarily used swords as backup weapons or for duels, so it would be petty of me to nitpick that and not this game.

Bonus points if you get it.
It's too bad that Ubisoft refuses to make an Assassin's Creed game based on Japan, but I'm glad that Sucker Punch made their Samurai game that felt familiar yet still being its own identity.
@@louker3783 I was literally going to say this, I dont want an ac japan now, ill just keep playing this, thank you
Just you wait. Ubisoft is probably scrambling for an AC in Japan sometime in the future, judging by the success of this game. "Hey, maybe fans do want an AC game set in Japan!"
@@dejoker0993 probably explains Valhalla after God of War was released.
I've been thinking about this a lot. I ALWAYS wanted an AC game in Japan, even when people were whining about there being "too many samurai games" and that it wouldn't do well (L O L). I haven't even played Ghost of Tsushima yet, but as a pretty hardcore AC fan, I know they'd never be able to make a game of this caliber. I don't want them to butcher it anymore, lol. (I would probably still play it if they did, though, let's be real)
It wont be as good, because Ghost is a pure Samurai game with stealth mechanic(which is something tha tfits the story too) while assassins creed will be just generic ninja game with multiple weapons like other Assassins creed games, also the world inst really that enjoyable to explore because of al the grinding and useless side-quest.
I completed everything before the last mission. I didn't plan to, I'm not a completionist, but I wanted to because I loved the idea of liberating Tsushima, and Iki before hand and I got spoiled, and when I played a song for taka's grave in my white ghost armour it felt awesome and complete. I love the care put in this game and it's a rare modern game experience I feel impressed.
It is quick fitting for the last story duel to also give you that achievement
Though I left iki island for after the campaign

This video had been in my watch later for ever. I have since played and 100% this game.. and even now i feel the urge to start all over for a 3rd time. This has been my favorite experience in gaming in all 20 years. And has remained my favorite game since day 1. After not playing for the last 2 months watching this has made my mind. Ill be playing tonight.
I’m having so much fun playing through this game for the first time, a masterpiece.
damn right we all completed this game. it got to the point where i even took my og ps4 and completely tore it apart, dusted every piece and put in new thermopaste and put it all back together. now my ps4 doesn't sound like it wants to take off too the moon anymore when i play this game.
"Assassin's Creed" should take notes. My favourite parts were the duels. I played this after "Sekiro" so parrying was second nature to me. I don't think I've ever blocked in GoT. Such a shame there weren't more duels. I loved also how my gameplay changed throughout the game. In the beginning stealth was paramount. By the second chapter getting the family armor I did all previous quests and got the collectibles so I relied little on stealth. I'd just challenge the enemies head on. I saw this as a reflection of Jin's progress. In the beginning nobody knows you, you need to build up experience and popular support to become stronger so stealth is necessary. But progressing further you can just barge in a Mongol camp, and openly challenge the enemy because you know you'll win... unless the camera is badly positioned and you miss a strike (most often the first one). I loved exploring the island on foot and see everything. I never felt forced to do side-quests just for completion's sake. I actually cared about everyone I helped. Even the random captives by the roads guarded by a handful of bandits. They reward you with insignificant small stuff, but you take it without saying a word because it's a symbol of dignity and gratitude.
Collecting singing crickets actually let you play songs on your flute that change the weather! Not JUST collectables! Simply so to your gear options, go to accessories, select the song with its associated weather variant, and when you're out and about you can change the weather anytime by swiping left on the touchpad! So even the collectables you said had no real purpose, have a more tangible purpose than all of the non cosmetic collectables in the game!
Holy cow! I didn't know that! I thought using the flute would just clear the weather. Didn't know each song has a weather variant.
Absolutely love this game!!! Im on act 3 right now but I'm trying to get all the side content.
I'm almost completely done with everything, even the flowers, and I'm starting to get really sad that it's all over. Seriously in my top ten games of this generation. Maybe of all time.

@@gyromurphy That's EXACTLY what it's like!
@@gyromurphy Only far better. It pains me to know fans only give praise to that game for Zelda being in the title. If it was any other game it'd have been called mediocre
Ace Hunter Blake Did u even play BOTW? The reason it got so much praise was because it revolutionized open world games by giving you the freedom of going anywhere on the map,and being able to climb and fly off of basically everything on the map, and it didn’t hold your hand by telling you where to go. To this day I think it’s the best open world game of all time, but to each their own I guess.

I waited to finish the game to watch this. I just finished it two nights ago, and got one of the few platinum trophies or complete achievement lists. Incredible game. I didnt know they added that new difficulty mode. Might have to play through the story in that mode. The scene where you unlock the Ghost stance was the craziest, most epic scenes ever.
Sucker Punch developed my favorite video games of all time, the original Sly trilogy. As a result, I've always had a soft spot for their games. Enjoyed the hell out of the Infamous games as well. When Ghost of Tsushima came out, I was so incredibly proud of them. Sucker Punch has proven their merit time and time again as one of the best developers of all time and they deserve ALL of the praise.

Best game ever made. This review hits every nail on the head. Every aspect of the game is correctly described so wonderfull, And in detail. I was so impressed with his detailed desription. Started playing computer games when I bought my Commodore 64 in 1983. I am not a very good game player but I did manage to finish this game on the easy level which even of itself was a challenge for me personally. It is also the only game I've ever played a second time which I am in the process of right at this moment. I recently finally got my hands on a PlayStation 5 and that is what I played the game with. Other games to compare it with, Red Redemption New Horizons God of War describes somewhat the same detail and depth of the graphics which in one word are simply breathtaking. I could say so many things but I won't, as this man's review really captures everything about it accurately. I first played this game on my PlayStation 4 plus and to be honest with you could not get into it or understand it and after a while I picked it back up and it just clicked and then it was just all out from there on. I actually cried when his horse died. That's not a spoiler alert but worth commenting. This one game makes it worthwhile to even buy a PlayStation 5. Another thing that I believe is worth stating is I never leave comments. I leave that to other people and even as in real life I will not argue or debate about anything. I just State the facts as I see them and then drop it. I will close with this as there's nothing more to say on my end, buy this game. You won't regret it and probably out of 100 games I've bought in my lifetime I can probably name 10 that I enjoyed or felt worth while playing. I just had Origin custom build a gaming computer for me and it as a matter of fact is still unopened in the Box sitting in my living room I recently got a hold of the PlayStation 5 and with my old age I find that it's more enjoyable sitting in a recliner playing on a 65 in television. With all that I leave you guys and hope you have a most groovy day and remember, game until you bleed.

freaking this game. been addicting for the past week. wish i had more time to play. haven't been bothered by side quests. i actually look forward to them. the story is amazing. they did such an amazing job with it.
I've watched so many reviews of this game and the one thing I notice everyone seems to look over is that the songs you unlock on the flute actually change the weather around you. The last song is my favorite to unlock cause you actually cause a rainstorm anywhere you are.
Those damn Mongorians
Playing this game and Platinuming it was a really fun ride. It says a lot that I can get frustrated with how an attempt went with combat, but still want to keep going and try to overcome it, and never feel like any of it was openly BS. I never felt like groaning with certain enemies because they're obnoxious, because there's always a way to deal with them, and the key is to weave everything you have to deal with everything thrown at you. This game was so good for many reasons and I am glad I took that gamble in getting it on release. I had wanted to play it but felt I could wait. When the opportunity arose, I decided to try it out. Well done Sucker Punch... this game is right on the list of really fantastic PS4 games.
Damn when was the last time you gave that rating?! 🤩
I love that this game's combat looks like what AC aimed to be, when the first one had you fight off guards with the hidden blade, then steal a weapon kill a guard with it and keep moving.
The cricket isn't just a collectable. You learn songs on your flute which changes the weather instantly for you. From.clear skies to thunderstorms to fogs.
As a beardy gay, who absolutely loves anime and other bearded men- I can't even tell you how much time of my life I have spent admiring the thumbnails of your videos. This one for GoS i absolutely
this game is a salute to true open world rpg's. so many little touches and polish that better be a part of the next generation open world games.
"If your riding your horse which I named Sora shout outs to my boy over in Kingdom Hearts." I’m so stoked to replay it with the Directors Cut Edition on my PS5!!
Second favorite game after Horizon Zero Dawn
HZD will probably always be one of my 10 favorite games so that’s saying a lot
But HRZ is a boring open world.. Well when toi play BOTW first
1Mirimi I personally found hzd more interesting with the dark and weird places it’s lore went and the way the robots had integrated into the environment and the different ways different cultures and people viewed and survived it. Botw is very charming and I enjoyed what I played of it though. It was a really good game to end the WiiU on and a worthy start to the switch era
Try Persona 5 too.
The thing is, its hard to play an open world when you played BOTW. HZD feel empty comparé to 1502839284 things that cet your attention in BOTW. I didn't try Ghost yet because in aurais that the game will be a classic open world 1) get a quest 2) run to your objective surtout doing anything else in between 3) finish quest
The completion reward is the teal and red armor he shows. There's a red, and a white version of the same armor that are exclusive to a hard choice you have to make in the story, so you can't get 100% of the items on one playthrough (unless they patch it in an update later). I hope they add that, as well as an armor loadout system, as swapping charms/armor for optimal play took up way too much of my time (I'd put it on d-pad right, optionally replacing the photo mode hotkey). The game could also really use a dueling arena as there is essentially nothing left to play other than wandering mongol spawns, after you liberate the island.
It's probably too late to do this as it would have required another round of mo-cap and VO, but to make the game more perfect, I would have also done an alternate story path that allows jin to choose the true path of the samurai, locking away all ghost abilities and assassination. You can sort-of do that with your skill choices, but you're forced to unlock assassination which brings up the prompt up sometimes even during active combat (when enemies turn and lose focus on you), and there are a number of story quests that require not just stealth, but stealth kills, including a very pivotal moment in the story, meaning that big twist would have to be reworked into something else which then changes quite a few dialogues referencing it after. It's such a volume of work that maybe it's better to just add a simple toggle that disables ghost abilities, and awards a trophy for beating the game with it (ignoring the missions that require it), and then use the saved time on a duel arena or challenge maps or something.
Hey Jirard, play Yu-Gi-Oh the Falsebound Kingdom or really any Yu-Gi-Oh game, i'd love to see you do the tag force series as they technically have a storyline
Fun Fact: Jin Sakai has the same Japanese Voice Actor as Zoro from One Piece - Kazuya Nakai
That Japanese-style remix of "Stickerbush Symphony" in the end though... Superb 👌

I bought this game on a whim not thinking it would captivate me as much as it did. It’s truly such a masterful game with fun gameplay and a really great story. Plus, Legends is still pretty fun and I love coming back to it from time to time
The O logo really reminds me of The Ghost Inside logo
I think my absolute favorite thing about the game that made me grin every time was how Jin drew his sword in most duels. The way they focus in on it and the thumb slide to unsheathe it just gives this total feel of bad assery because you know shits about to go down
This is one game Im trying to play everything. Game of the Year by far for me.
It’s minor but I wish you would have mentioned controlling the weather with your flute, made the experience a little more fun. Loved always putting the sun back in the sky after an intense battle and looking over your conquest!
Hands down the best review of this game thus far and fully justifies taking his time to bring it to us. Jirard your channel continues to be a good friend to me throughout this horrible year, so it's time for me to start giving something back through Patreon. Love ya dude. x
Thank you for playing this. Genuinely happy to see you complete it.
What a great game.
Bushido Blade 2, for psone, did a good job depicting sword play as well---especially for its time. Underappreciated gem.
Just for The Ghost of Yarikawa tale is worth every cent. Its just so good in what this game does. Soundtrack, missions, game play, story, everything is just that good
This game is so good i completed it by accident
I'm missing 2 things. Haven't found all the records or found hidden shrines
Im sure im not the only one that was able to play tons of extra games this year due to covid this game stands out the most.
"emotional truth is more important than fact and figures, that can be nitpicked" - perfectly said
This game blew my mind!!!
💯 agree with you about the opening. That scene was BEAUTIFUL!!! (Playing it in PS5)
I’m in LOVE 😍 with this game!!!
Also the Yarikawa battle is my favorite mission and getting the Ghost Stance was hype af.
The fact that this amazing game didn't get goty is absolutely atrocious!? Smh it won gamers choice tho and thats all that really matters.
The metaphor comparing this game to writing haiku is infinitely cool, and perfectly encapsulates what makes it so special. Using a Japanese art form to articulate why a game inspired by Japanese culture, coming full circle. Jirard, or whoever else may have written it, big props.
I started playing this a couple days ago and it almost immediately made it on my top 10 games of all time. My ps4 has had a long journey and this was a good last hoorah for the console
This is the best review I've seen for this game. I went from Playstation to hard core xbox this generation but I will now be picking this up. Assume Job
Just completed Ghost of Tsushima, originally I wasn't going to but when I noticed that I had already collected most of the collectibles so I thought why not and enjoy the landscape of the game one last time. Was worth it.
I didnt understand the wind feature at first bc all i wanted to do is slice n dice.
But once i got into the story and paid attention, i fucking with it and and i realized you swipe and the wind points in the direction, i took a second to think about it.
This is by far the best guidance system ive ever seen.
It doesnt break action or immersion at all, hell it like you're a god and you're simply nudging Jin in the direction he needs to go
65 hours of playtime!!! I’m well past 80 hours and only on the second location, I’m enjoying my time
What a review. Thank you for translating the beauty and effort from the game into this review. Genuinely moved.
I know I could’ve just named my horse Kage/Shadow cause shadows are cool... but I went with Sora/Sky, same as you, instead.
This game is all about the winds of change.
I went with Sora too, but No Game No Life
My first horse was Sora, and the second was Kage. It's unintentional, but it represents Jin's story, in a way.
one of my favourite games
Same
Yo I just made a BANGER ghost of tsushima video if you could check it out it would mean alot!!
