The thing about "White Bear" is that when they wiped that girl's entire memory, they essentially killed the person who murdered that little girl. What they are torturing is a brand new, confused person. The murderer got to escape into the void of death without having to face any torture and this new person has to pay the price for it. If they punished the murderous person, there would be the sense of retribution of the murderer knowing why they are receiving this punishment. They are not torturing the murderer, they are torturing the shell that held the murderer, which is now inhabited by a soul that has not consciously done any crimes.
Exactly, like the person they’re torturing isn’t even really the person that did the crime. They’re torturing a blank slate of her. And punishment should be to teach, not for everyone else to get pleasure out of it. That’s a problem in all of the US, we punish for the sake of it instead of doing so with a goal.
This just takes the episode conversation even deeper and makes it more nuanced. I’m glad you brought this up because it was something I hadn’t initially considered. It brings up more questions. What makes a person a person? Is it their body? Their memories/ consciousness? As you said, it seems pretty unethical to torture someone who doesn’t have a clue what they did, though the fact remains that they technically DID do it. At the end of the day, when we search for justice, WHO are we really doing it for? That person is dead and as far as we know, whatever happens here after their death is unknown and irrelevant to them. This sounds like a college discussion board😂 but I love when people pose questions that make me think even further
@@kaybee2199 well consider this too - if they wanted to torture her in order to truly teach her a lesson, why would they wipe her memory again? I love your videos trin. Your way of putting film into perspective for viewers is my favorite. Your pov is amazing and I also relate. never stop making reaction content love u 💘
You are so great at analyzing! 🙂 I loved it! I’m glad you’re a fan and are able to talk in depth! My favorite episodes/high-rated episodes were in Season 4 (USS Callister, Hang the DJ, and Black Museum). It’d be interesting to see an analysis on one of those 😊
I wish I didn’t know all the endings to black mirror episodes before watching them😭 I went through a whole ending explained phase and I’ve never watched the show
I believe “White Christmas” & “Hang the DJ” are the top rated episodes and then comes “Black Museum” alongside “San Junipero” which come in 3rd. For “Shut up and Dance” there are 7 episodes rated higher and for “White Bear” there are 10 episodes rated higher and another 2 rated the same.
I've read in several comments that San Junipero is so popular because of the gay relationship plot. Although I understand the logic in this opinion, I think San Junipero is one of the most thought-provoking episodes of the Black Mirror universe even without this thread. Yes, Yorkie's story and the Yorkie-Kelly relationship undoubtedly add a layer to the story but the concept of the virtual consciousness is so interesting and controversial in itself that I remember we talked about this part even years later. I liked the visual style too because of my connection to the 80s. I still rank SJ as one of the top 5 episodes. Fun fact that it was originally written for a hetero couple and the ending would not have been quasi-positive.
Omg, I finally get to share the pain of these first 2 episodes with someone 😂😂😂. But for real, I binged black mirror and then had to stop at "shut up and dance" because it gave me an existential crisis. I eventually came back for San Junipero and stopped again.

White Bear and Shut Up and Dance will always be my top two favorite episodes. The narrative twists in them are such gut punches and you really don’t expect either one.
Has anyone noticed that in Shut up and Dance, during the scene where Kenny gives the little girl the toy at the restaurant at 13:30, the song ''That's the way I like it'' by KC and the Sunshine band plays in the background...While Kenny is smiling at the little girl. Very clever foreshadowing right there.

I agree, that at the beginning she doesn't look like she cares about, what she did and they wanted to teach her a lesson, but I still think, that what they are doing is cruel and inhuman
still an amazing episode and an incredibly hard watch
edit: the second one is a good episode, really liked it at the beginning, but it didn't stuck to me
and san junipero is just one comfy episode, love to rewatch it, when I'm feeling down (also the concept very interesting and I do think, that eternal life is double sided, but still love the ability of living, even if you're not able to move/function like you did before, while also looking like you did at your peak years)
also san junipero breakdown is so real (this is me every time I rewatch it)
White bear was the first episode of black mirror that I watched as well and it had me locked into that show ever since
I love your videos trin.
It’d be interesting to see an analysis on one of those 😊
FIRST ASH NOW TRIN LETS FKN GOOOOOOOO
LITERALLY
shw's feeding the gays just FINEE
I wish I didn’t know all the endings to black mirror episodes before watching them😭 I went through a whole ending explained phase and I’ve never watched the show
i been WAITING for this one since your twitter post especially
I’m recently just obsessing with Black Mirror rn so having Trin react to this is so perfecttt 😭
It's subjective really what the best ones are.
Black museum!!!!! Pleaseeeee it has everything stories inside a story and the reveal is just amazingggggg
I would LOVE to see you do more of these episodes. My current faves are Black Museum, Beyond the Sea, and Crocodile
Omg this is so exciting ♡ especially because the new season is out !!
I’m ready for a whole Black Mirror Commentary Season Trin!! ❤❤❤ especially seasons 3 - 6
San Junipero is the only episode of Black Mirror I’ve seen, and probably the only one I will watch.
Another good episode is season 3’s “Hated In the Nation”. I feel like nobody talks about it
Omg, I finally get to share the pain of these first 2 episodes with someone 😂😂😂. But for real, I binged black mirror and then had to stop at "shut up and dance" because it gave me an existential crisis. I eventually came back for San Junipero and stopped again.
No fr, I was on a binge and shut up and dance made me put this show down for WEEKS okay? No other episode fucked me up that badly like, even ones that were scarier or sadder or weirder, this one hit me the hardest
@@ayannabranchcomb7535 I literally felt a pit of dread that made me sick. It took me longer than weeks to come back to the show, or any other show that wasn't about sunshine and rainbows 😂😂😂.
Literally..
San Junipero is the best short sf I’ve ever seen on TV, and I’ve been watching science fiction for 40 years. Even after seeing it numerous times, the waterworks still come.
Oh, and we love Greg ❤️
i would love to see your take on the whole series!!!
im obsessed w how obsessed u are with black mirror fr like ur mind is sooo.... thinking a thunk
ur hair is sooo soft looking omg its so gorgeous
I’m so excited for your review of season 6!!
OMG YESSS I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSSS
I wish i could watch shut up and dance for the first time again but with someone because the way my stomach dropped when the confrontation happened… I instantly got it actually horrifying
On this episode of video essay with a side of reaction commentary
Still I cry when I hear "Heaven is a place on earth". I've watched San Junipero multiple times and haven't been the same since 😢
Me too 😭
Please do more episodes of Black Mirror Trin!!! Also all three of these episodes are in my top 10 favourite episodes.
Ready for more Black Mirror content from youuu😩😍
omg i just finished binging it all for the first time this is exactly the video i need 😫
I always thought the reason for the bank robbery was to keep him from getting away like even though he made it to the end the police were going to put multiple charges on him? I haven’t watched this since it came out but I remember police were coming in from the distance
Okay I remembered right that police showed up lol
I think you should do a ranking of all black mirror episodes!!
It would be so cool! What are your Top 5 episodes?
ur point of wanting to have watched shut up and dance for the first time with a huge group of ppl... I LOVE IT cause most black mirror episodes i WISH i could've seen in theaters somehow omg
White Bear and Shut Up and Dance will always be my top two favorite episodes. The narrative twists in them are such gut punches and you really don’t expect either one.
loved this!
Best video yet!!!❤
If annoying contained vitamins I'd watch this channel everyday.
Oooh, I would love more black mirror!
Definitely one of my favorites of yours ❤
would LOVE to see more black mirror content from you
Trin why do you always make the best videos? Why are you so talented and never miss to make my day better?? Care to explainn????
it's funny that trin started talking about easter eggs after seeing white bear - bandersnatch symbol 😂
Just found your channel and I’m so glad I did! I really like your humor and video presentation. Liked and subscribed! 😁
Trin always putting out quality over quantity💙
TRIN HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT IM CURRENTLY FIXATING ON BLACK MIRROR?? I was watching an analysis video as you uploaded this!
Also Hated In The Nation is chef's kiss 💋 One of my favs
We def need all episode reactions
she ate!!! not me crying along to San Junipero (im an empath)
White bear is kinda weird cus the whole memory erasure thing is so pointless might as well be punishing some innocent random
Ya it's rly brutal in that way, which helps push the questions about capital punishment
MORE BLACK MIRROR PLEASEEEEE!!!
Am I the only one who’s favorite black mirror is Nosedive? I feel like that’s the best introduction to black mirror
The first episode i watched was shut up and dance at a friend's house with like 6 people and it was the perfect introduction to the series
FIRST ASH NOW TRIN OMGGG IM BEING FED GOODDD
Yo that loading screen in the beginning got me.
