- Union Pacific J Yard local in action! UPY 1199, 2708, 1199
1) @ Downtown Gardena. I just love that street running segment.
2) @ Torrance Bl in Torrance, CA. You may see the train passing under the old Pacific Electric railroad bridge.
3) the train return to Gardena, running through Normandie Ave
4) Heading to the Crenshaw Lumber, passing the Denker Ave Wig Wag in Gardena, CA.
5) Heading back to UP J Yard, passing Metro Blue Line station in Vernon, CA.
That wig wag stop soo suddenly, never seen that before unlike other wig wags that i seen, nice braking. Its brake machanism is still in perfect working order.
Thanx for capturing.
That wigwag may look beaten and battered, but it's fully functional and it's one of the few I've seen with a working brake mechanism--note how quickly it stops swinging once it's shut off. The Magnetic Signal Company manufactured these types of wigwags and offered the brake assembly as an option. Great to see one that still works.
Thanks Snuffy , love to see x Pacific Electric Torrance via Gardena line in action ! As you know SP operated this before line long after PE left as the SP Torrance switcher ( PE job ) called by some crews , SW 1500 ' s were the main locomotive used ! Then UP took over ! But all n all , SP LIVES !!
Yup the pacific electric red car did run on Torrance via gardena line via Vermont ave.
WOW SNUFFY YOU CAUGHT TWO X SP SW1500 ' S On The TORRANCE LOCAL ( PACIFIC ELECTRIC TORRANCE. VIA GARDENA LINE ! ) THE SW 1500 ' S WERE IN SP 'S 2400 SERIES SW 1500 'S ! EWE DA MAN SNUFFY !!!!! SP LIVES
Also you are right BNSF 1995 , The 1st and the 3rd locomotives are x SP SW 1500 's from the 2400 series ! Once again SP LIVES !! As do SW 1500 's Now what would be nice would be to see one of the x SP bay window cabooses that are sometimes used on these local runs ! Now wouldn't that nice ! SP LIVES !
I remember the S.P. running on this line in the mid 60"s. At Gardena blvd and Vermont only had two wigwags on either end.
I LOVE THE OLD WIG WAG!
that is awesome. we used to have switchers like that operation on CN many years ago. My dad would take me down to the CN yards to watch. Thanks for this video
Hey, I saw this video around the time you uploaded this. Sick video Snuffy.
@singwith Hey Buddy Great Video Here, Thanks! I really love these old Switchers, plus the Gensets are cool. ( Love SW's & MP15's ). You got some fine shots here plus the action is great! So many of us Railfans film mostly the Big Road Job's, ( SD70's, ES44's, Dash9's, long Trains and so-on ). This "industry switching" side of railroading is so interesting as well. I wish there was a lot more video of this on U-tube! If you can film more of this great action! I ask everyone. Thanks again!
That is awesome! I love the train running right down the street.
Wish I'd seen this one first. Would have found out that the wig-wags were finally taken out at Vermont and Gardena Blvd.
The 1129 has one of the best K3LAs that i have ever heard!
wow, thanks for uploading this. ive been waiting for something like this for a while.
Gotta love street running, am I right?
You can also tell one of those switchers is ex-SP, judging by its P3.
Both are Ex-SP, UP 1190 was SP 2618, UP 1199 was SP 2657
Excellent video. Good job.
Jack London Square is awesome. I just wish the trains would move faster through there.
Ya it is very cool place. I haven't gone there in awhile.
0:54 what are these things on the little red flatcar (labelled ELKX8 2811 8) in the rear? Just being curious, is all
nice ol' crossing @ 3:33
I feel like it's getting rarer to catch trains operating in Torrance
dude this is awesome!
2 mp15 switchers on a street run old day trains are back
Nice Video
@ 3:08 there's WIIG-WAGS!!!!!!
Nice video!
Snuffy, does that traffic signal always change to green for the train? If it doesn't change to green and stays red does the train have to stop?
The Gates are down whats the point to stop.
dang.. now the big bargen is a salsa dance studio :/
Nice! I think it's a bit overpowered in the beginning!
Maybe, but they probably had a longer and heavier train that they were going to pull on that trip.
