Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for homeschooling high school! It is sometimes a lonely existence and all I hear is, "I don't have the confidence to homeschool high school..." which sometimes makes me second guess. You are encouraging. :-)
Cody McKay I’m sorry you’ve experienced that! Homeschooling high school is great! I tell people, “Don’t stop now! You’re just getting to the good part!”
Thank you for this video! Next year we will start high school but I am already gathering up information for it. I love the books that you share. I hear about so mamy children walking away from the Lord. I want my children to have a firm foundation and understanding before they leave our home and it looks like Fundamentals of the faith and Compartive religions are just the books to help with that. Please continue to share what you use, it is so helpful.
What maths are you ladies planning on completing throughout the high school years? I know you have selected Algebra 1 for 9th grade but what other maths are you planning on providing?
My oldest daughter did the following in high school: Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-calculus and Calculus Current high schooler will do the following: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and then Pre-calculus will be optional since she is probably not going into a math or science field.
Looks like you have a great year planned out. This will be our 1st year doing high school. Excited about this new chapter, but also in complete denial that we are already here. I would love to see more details about the filmmaking course. My son would love that!! Full year credit or one semester half credit?
Always so thankful for you Janelle. Over the last seven years of our homeschool journey, I still go back to you for help and resources! What was the online film school you recommended again? God Bless!
My mom was kind enough to make the floral arrangement for me. I'm terrible with those things. The yellow pillow is actually a pillow case I ordered from amazon that I put over an older pillow I wasn't using. I'll include the link below. It is a pack of 2 yellow pillow cases.amzn.to/2JzWQQr
I would love to hear how the Filmmaking class goes. I saw that curriculum at the homeschool convention in My state in June and would love for my daughter to take it in highschool. Also, we have the Comparative Religions curriculum. We have not completed it yet and I was planning on my daughter doing it in highschool for a bible credit. It looks very thorough and a great way to provide firm footing as they head out into the world.
I know it’s been a while since you did the biology but how did the labs go with the kit. I feel like the Logos lab kit does not include so many prepared slides.
I would love to see you do a review of BJU high school! I’m seriously considering BJU science for our homeschool high school level but I’m wondering if BJU science is as super intense as Apologia. I’m hoping it’s not so I was hoping you could review BJU High School science.
I am finding that the upper level BJU science courses are rigorous BUT the Distance Learning videos are making all the difference in my children being able to grasp the concepts. They also help bring the science to life. I used Apologia (the ones written by Dr. Jay L Wile) before BJU and they are comparable in rigor.
Hi Janelle! I am a friend of Joleene’s 😊 I am looking at Veritas for my daughter and was wondering why you decided against continuing w omnibus. Trying to decide if I want to go their full schedule route or to piece it out and just do omnibus. Would love to chat w you sometime! Thanks!
That's a long story! ha! Loved Veritas self-paced course and would consider using again but we don't follow a classical method so it doesn't work for us to use it for everything, every year. Feel free to get my email from Joleene. :)
I'm so interested in how the Starting Points course went. I'm considering it, but my daughter is so used to video lessons from Veritas Press & BJU I'm worried it'll be boring for her without video explanation.
I've used Starting Points with 2 of my kids and they both learned a lot and really grew in their reasoning/critical thinking, faith, and apologetics. But it is heavy on reading and writing and really makes the student think hard about topics. I highly recommend it but a student has to be prepared for a lot of reading, writing and thinking on their own.
I am thinking about getting the BJU Distance Learning Spanish 1 for my son. Have you used this before? I checked briefly through your videos, but I didn't see any on the Spanish. I would love to see you do a look through and get your thoughts on the program. Thank you so much.
I have not used Spanish 1 yet. I will add it to my list of video ideas since several people have asked about it. I'm hoping it works well for my 9th grader. I'll keep you posted. :)
Do you already have a video with a deeper look at math u see algebra 1? I'm thinking of switching our algebra choice to this but wondering how smooth the transition would be since my daughter has never used math u see. She has always used Math Mammoth.
Thank you for this question. I heard MUS was hard to switch too if you haven’t done it from the beginning and we are so over teaching textbooks. I’m attempting pre algebra on my own but will need something next year for algebra 1.
I can't remember the credits off the top of my head but I will try to do another video on how I plan for 4 years of high school to make sure we get all the appropriate credits in.

High school years are some of my favorite to homeschool!

Here's the film school my daughter took. They have updated it and added more options for classes since we used it. www.fs4t.com/
Where did your yellow pillow come from? Also I love your little sunflowers back there. Our living room is decorated blue and yellow with sunflowers.

This looks so cool! I want to homeschool my kids one day, I wish my mom was able to homeschool me!
High school homeschooling...fun and bittersweet :)

Hi
Will the videos read the biology book on the video also?

Please give an in-depth look at Spanish 1 and Apologetics in Action.
On my list of videos to make!
Hello Janelle, I was wondering what was that entrepreneur course for kids you talked about a while ago?
It changed name and format and is now called Visionary Entrepreneurship. visionaryentrepreneurship.com/
@@JanelleKnutson Thank you! Do you still reccomend them?
Do you already have a video with a deeper look at math u see algebra 1? I'm thinking of switching our algebra choice to this but wondering how smooth the transition would be since my daughter has never used math u see. She has always used Math Mammoth.
Also, I have to say that your enthusiasm is so refreshing and my nervous self needed it lol. First time homeschooling these years.
MUS is easy to switch to in the upper levels. You shouldn’t have a problem at all jumping into algebra 1.
@@JanelleKnutson thank you for such a quick answer!
Thank you for this question. I heard MUS was hard to switch too if you haven’t done it from the beginning and we are so over teaching textbooks. I’m attempting pre algebra on my own but will need something next year for algebra 1.
@@DixonChristianAcademy I heard the same thing and have always wondered if it was as difficult of a switch as people have mentioned.
Can you give the credits that you give for that year? I know it would help me with high school.
I can't remember the credits off the top of my head but I will try to do another video on how I plan for 4 years of high school to make sure we get all the appropriate credits in.
What are you using for history?
Stephanie Crissup Starting Points covers American history.
Janelle Knutson oh wow! Great choices!
