I’d love to see a video on the literature logs. I have a child going into 9th grade next year and that sounds right up her alley. Thank you for sharing.
Yes!! I would love to see a video on how you do transcripts and keep track of it all! My daughter is going into ninth grade this year and I feel lost and have no idea how to do this!! We have been homeschooling for 5 years now but high-school seems so daunting and important!
I love that idea of having the heavier load in the front half of high school to allow more wiggle room at the back end for alternative learning / career experiences or endeavors.
I would be really interested in how you plan to do grading! I have twins going into 7th grade next year and I'm thinking about high school and wanting to prepare them and myself. We have not done any grading so far and some curricula don't have quizzes and tests that are straight forward for grading. Thank you for this content!
Hey Sarah! Just checking in on ya! As a fellow homeschool Mama, I appreciate your content, especially as we are eclectic and my kids are just a few years behind yours. Hope all is well, and miss your videos in the RUclips world! Blessings!
I’d love to see your literature logs. Along with anything High school related that you are willing to share! I also having an upcoming 9th grader. It’s amazing how time flies!!
I would love to see a video about grading and transcripts. I’m a home school mama of a 9 grader this year. And would like some advice on how to grade and record what he is learning and transcripts for high school credits! Thank you so much. Live the curriculum you have chosen for your son Noah for his 9 grade year!!! Thanks. Lisa!
Yes to more High school videos. My oldest is in 8th grade. I started looking i to what I may want to use for her last year. I know for sure Math U See and IEW will be used.
I have one in 7th grade and another in 4th. So we are quickly at or approaching the middle and high school years. Would love more content in this area. 😊
Ok Sarah. I need you to teach me your ways for creating rubrics and grading high school. We're also a GR family, but supplement ELA and obviously Math. I overwhelm myself every time I start researching the best way to do this. We keep going back and forth on starting another "catch up" year for my son or just going ahead and starting high school. He's mostly catching up math and ELA but is not really any further behind than any of his classmates are in public school. We pulled him out of public school 2 years ago (preCOVID) and he has made such great strides since!! I want to keep going with homeschool and so does he, but grading high school and creating transcripts stresses me out!! I am so thankful I have had your videos to guide me since we started this journey. Thank you for sharing! :)
I am working on planning homeschooling high school content, so thank you for the suggestions. I’m learning as I go, and hope to take you all along on the journey with me (trial and error it will be I’m sure!). For now I would point you to Ann Karako’s books, talks, website. She has been a huge encouragement to me and is a wealth of info!
Thank you so much for all the information! I am starting my homeschooling journey for the first time and you really put me at ease on a direction to start. I too have a 9th grader and I appreciate you taking the time to make this video for newbies like me!
Love your videos. So helpful for this new homeschool momma :) question for you: this was 2 years ago (video) do you still recommend this 9th grade curriculum?
Thank you so much for sharing. My kids are all still pretty young so while we have a long time before I really need to worry about high school, I feel like it will be here before I know it and I'd love to already have an idea of what we are going to get into. I have found that there is a TON of great content for the younger years that my kids are in right now but I would LOVE to see more on middle and especially high school as we approach those years. I think sharing how you plan for credits, grade work and create transcripts would be incredible helpful for so many mommas in the future.
Looks like a great year. I spotted you at the homeschool convention but didn’t want to freak you out by saying hi. Glad you were able to find some great stuff at the convention.
I love these high school videos! I have one going into 8th grade so what I pick this year will impact his 9th grade year. I bounced back and forth with what to do with science and ELA too.... We decided on shormann/Dive into science and then did all kinds of stuff for ELA. And online writing class, fix it grammar, well trained mind, etc...
Thanks for sharing, Sarah! Love your idea to have a heavier workload for 9th and 10th grade. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but I’ll have to keep this in mind as we get closer to 9th grade!
I enjoyed your video. We are going to use berean builders, but elementary level. Wondering if you’ve tried apologia and whether you were considering it over berean builders and why you chose berean builders overs apologia. I go back and forth about those for the high school years.
Honestly I went with Berean Builders because a friend of mine I trust (and who knows my kids well) recommended it. Also the Vimeo instruction option was a huge selling point!
Thank you for your content! I am interested in literature logs, grading and transcripts for high school. Also, what are your plans to prepare for the ACT/SAT?
Thanks Homeschooling high school…all the things, please! What do your kiddos like, dislike, enjoy, or love, etc. with their courses? How is the workload and daily schedule feasible compared to middle school level workload? How much can they successfully accomplish independently through their eyes and yours? We understand each student is at their own levels, but it is nice to hear others opinions and experiences. Helps some us know how to alter accordingly for our learners too. And then, also, you said this is a college prep plan. Is that like a community college, state college, university, etc.? Really, any and every info your willing to divulge in your prep. & planning is greatly appreciated!
I'm sludging my way through updating a transcript now! I would love to hear how you are doing this. I think you are right about doing a lot of credits in 9th and 10th grade. We got a lot of them out of the way, which will help my daughter have more time for her college classes next year.
I would love to see how you plan on assigning credits and how you will pull it all together. Are you not using gather round as a spine anymore? We’ve been using them for awhile but I’m wondering if it’s enough as my children begin to approach these high school years.
I’m thinking about putting out a video with more details about how we plan to use GR this year. We are using it for the spine of our history this year, and then I am planning on doing a few of the science themed units with my younger kids.
Wow, I loved all of these! It gives me tons of hope that there are great options when we finally get to high school 😅 I hear horror stories of searching incredibly hard for options for that age group, and it looks like he's going to have a really well rounded and full school year.
I’m going to purchase this science curriculum for my 8th grader! Do you think I could include my 5th grade science enthusiast for his curriculum? He has a passion for all things science and soaks it right up!
Your videos are always so well put together and I’ve been waiting patiently for your curriculum picks!! I plan on using Berean Builders for high school also. He just came out with his new Biology also. Do you think Analytical Grammar would work with a child with ADHD and some learning challenges?
Yes I do! I would point you to their website for more info, but overall it is a very “to the point” curriculum. Black and white, no distractions or endless busy work.
Greetings from the UK! Did you use the accompanying Student notebook for Berean Builder's Earth Science, or just the textbook and test booklet? Did your son enjoy the course? Would you recommend it for my upcoming 9th Grader? Many thanks x

This is my first high school homeschool too ❤️ I am deciding on curriculums gather round is one of them Are you using all the pages in the gather round high school unit plusyour other LA or substituting I hope that makes sense ☺️
The Gather Round mini units have fewer notebooking pages, so we will do all of them for the history units. In the past when we have done regular GR units we have skipped most of the LA pages since we use other curriculum.

Berean builders earth science can be used as a physical science plus lab? Is there videos to watch the experiments if we dont do all experiments? Thank you
Yes! Dr Wile told me this is a great place to start (especially if you are doing it with an 8th grader, or a 9th grader who hasn’t had much science experience, or isn’t planning to go into a scientific field). As far as if the experiments are videoed, I would direct you to the Berean Builder site. Since we haven’t done this course yet, I’m not exactly sure what content is included on every recorded class.
Sarah, does the lab kit come with complete instructions or are they in the student book? We are going with GR earth science this year (or I could change my mind 7000 times🤣) but we want a good lab set to accompany it. Great reading list! My upcoming 9th grader will be starting with The Hiding Place.
@@EverydayHomeschooler thank you for checking! Do you think that the book & lab kit would be a good combination with the GR Earth Science.
