I'm wondering if you guys are still making videos. I'm really enjoying your channel, and I hope you'll continue to produce more great content.

I love your videos. We have an R1T and Ioniq6 in North Carolina. We don't have the Tesla to NACs adapter for the R1T yet.

You had 82% in West Lafayette Indiana? You should have been able to easily make it to the EA in Joliet, IL only 131 miles away. We definitely need more charging infrastructure but this seems like you maybe could have taken a better look at alternatives?

We had an ID4 First edition which we bought in May, 2021. Loved it and loved your videos about the car.
Bit things didn’t go well with the car. Software, recalls and several times the car bricked changed all that. And that doesn’t include charging issues.
So in June, 2023 we drove the car over to Tesla and picked up our new Model Y. This car has some problems too, but not compared to the ID4.
The ride in the Y is very stiff compared to the ID4 which had better suspension. And I loved the comfortable seats on that car. Y also has noticeable rattles on our terrible Chicago street surfaces.
All in all, we much prefer the Y. 13:51

VW id4 2024 improved and fixed all of that and now they will have rivian making their softwares from 2025 onwards

I had considered a Mach-E when I still had my Chevy Volt a few years back. Ended up going with the Model Y instead largely because of the Supercharger network since I anticipated doing road trips in it.
Several long range trips later to places like Yellowstone, Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and even driving around Lake Michigan one random spontaneous weekend, and I'm grateful that there are lots of Superchargers spaced out in a lot of places.
Aside from that, there's a lot of stalls, and they're almost always working, which is what the non-Tesla DC fast chargers need to focus on. Only having 4 stalls, of which 1-2 may be broken, is not a good sign.

Well now all cars will br able to use the superchargers with adaptors whether its ford, rivian, kia or VW EV. Starting 2025 to 2026 all will be compatible

@@samjam6989 Well, the rollout has been slower than expected, partly due to Elon's antics in early 2024 when he fired most of the Supercharger team, only to have to rehire a lot of them back.
That said, while many Superchargers will be available to non-Tesla EVs, there are many others which will be unavailable. Mostly the older and slower V1/V2, but there will be some V3 locations that won't be available to non-Teslas so that Tesla can reserve them for Tesla owners.
While places to charge should be less of an issue as the charging infrastructure matures and builds out more, I believe Teslas will still have an overall advantage when using Superchargers, namely their over the air updates.
For example, they added things like preconditioning so that the car will heat up or cool down the battery pack when you're heading to a Supercharger so that when you arrive, you can charge at a faster rate than if the battery were really cold or hot, and it had to heat up or cool down the battery before it could supercharge. There are videos of this on RUclips that shows you the differences between charging a battery that's been preconditioned over one that hasn't been, especially on Out of Spec Reviews.
Other things Tesla has added were things like informing you how many other Teslas are headed to the same Supercharger you're heading to. And if it gets really busy, the car will attempt to automatically reroute you to a less busy one if available along your route.
When I was heading to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky back in 2022, my Model Y was originally going to a Supercharger on the west side of Indianapolis. However, about 10 minutes before I was expected to arrive, the car navigation suddenly changed course and directed me to go to one on the southeast side of the city instead. Instead of having to wait, I arrived at an empty Supercharger station and was able to charge. As a small bonus, it was in a Meijer parking lot, so I was able to use the bathroom and grab lunch while I was there. And it was still in the general direction I was heading, so it wasn't like I had to divert drastically to charge.
While other automakers are slowly adding these sorts of things to their EV's to improve the quality of life, none of them currently have done it on the scale Tesla does it.

@@Geckogold other EVs have preconditioning too

    • @Geckogold

@@samjam6989 But not all of them do. And some don't explain that concept well to their drivers, so you get ones that go to say, an Electrify America station, and they're wondering why their car is charging so slow.
Tesla rideshare drivers in Chicago also ran into this problem back in January 2024 when they didn't precondition prior to plugging into a Supercharger, leading to really low charging speeds until the battery was able to warm up enough. The vehicle does try to educate you on this, but I doubt most people paid any attention to it, hence those videos and negative reactions when interviewed about it.

Since VW signed on last, I doubt ID.4's will have access to Tesla Super Chargers no sooner than the end of 2024.
I've always thought it was stupid to have to sign agreements with Tesla for Super Charger access. Makes more sense for Tesla to provide Magic Docks on all of their V3 and V4 sites so everyone has equal access without having the OEM manufacturer's get in line and kiss the ring. After all, Tesla is making and additional profit off of increased charging activity with CCS cars gaining access to their Super Chargers.

Positive Spin: More folks are buying EVs. My husband and I went to our local EVGO (2 stall) in North Carolina Saturday night to get familiar with plug n charge. It was booked solid (one apartment fellow and one rideshare) and even the next morning early a rideshare driver was on one stall. I mean I'm fine with all that but Geez we need more infrastructure.

I really hope that Tesla is able to massively ramp up Supercharger installations to accommodate the increased demand for them as they sell more EV's, and more non-Tesla EV's can start using them over time.
They really need to start building out more of their V4 Superchargers which have the longer cables to better accommodate various EV's that have their charge ports in different locations on the vehicle. The current V3's are very short, so the worry is that a lot of non-Tesla EV's will end up blocking 2-3 spots depending on how they need to pull in to be able to reach the cord, unless Tesla retrofits them all with a longer cable as well.
That said, welcome to the Supercharger network! You'll soon see why so many Tesla owners love Superchargers.

@@Geckogold Thank you! I am looking forward to charging at the Superchargers. Yes, I do hope Tesla installs more V4s. That would be great. It will be interesting to see how it all goes. Of course, most Ford and Rivian owners (including my husband) cannot use any Superchargers yet because we do not have the adapter. I do have the adapter for the destination chargers (NACS to J1772) so looking forward to using that but that is slow charging.

EA needs Supercharger Congestion Fee. If you charge over 80%, you get billed double.
