    What is going on with CCS infrastructure in the United States? We found plenty of issues with finding available and fully functioning chargers on my way back from Nashville, TN to home in Milwaukee, WI We drove my 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 First Edition with the newest 3.1 software update.

    As a Bolt EUV owner, I've been using dealership charging when on the road with good success. Since I'm limited on DCFC power, the 50 kW units are just fine and honestly more reliable than Electrify America.

      Hi Ben, that is great to hear about the dealership charging working well for you! What charging network is most typical at the ones near you? A lot of the dealerships in the Milwaukee and surrounding area have ChargePoint.

    • @BensEcoAdvntr
      @BensEcoAdvntr Год назад

      @@midwest_ev It will typically be ChargePoint, often at Hyundai dealers, or EVConnect, mostly at GM dealers. Pricing is all over the place from free to a $5 session fee plus $0.50 per kWh. Given how much I save charging at home, I don't mind paying a bit more for convenience on the road though.

      I just traded my model 3 for a Ford F150 lightening and in only two days of ownership I have started to get really upset when I go to charging stations and see a couple of chevy bolts taking spaces because you know they are going to there for and extra long time. The CCS charging stations are few and far between around San Antonio which I just found out that it is one of the worst ev charging cities in the country

    Now you can use Tesla’s superchargers with an adapter.

    I would think that almost any company that wanted to could pull ahead of Electrify America.

      Yes! As Jaap commented, we have a 2021 First Edition which is RWD. We recently had our software updated which is why our charging speeds have, thankfully, increase.

    Totally agree. The B'ton-Normal EA facility is a mess. I need to road trip tomorrow and the ID.4 is staying home and we're taking the ICE car 100% because I don't trust that station. I would need to do a deep charge there both ways. No thanks. I wish EA would spend some money on station repair like they do on building new stations.

    The difference between 135 to 175kw has to be a huge improvement for you...when EA actually works and can give you what the car wants.

    A little bit over the top. Guess the lost game did no good. On this trip your charging numbers were at records. Upgrade working very well. Yes, not everything is perfect but it need some time.

    What I don't understand is why you are stopping with charging at 66%. You were charging at more than 170Kw. so why not charging for a few more minutes to 80%. it'sgive you an buffer.

    • @RoqueExclusives
      @RoqueExclusives Год назад +2

      The battery gets charged faster if it’s at a lower percentage. So having the buffer makes you charge longer since that would mean your battery is at a higher percentage.

    • @midwest_ev
      @midwest_ev  Год назад

      I've been using the car long enough where I know its limits pretty well. For the sake of my passengers I tried to keep the charging sessions short and sweet.
      Charging speeds also taper, especially after 50% where it generally drops below 100 kW on the ID.4. Shorter stops at lower states of charge usually ends up being quicker than waiting until 80% at each charger.

    EA is single-handedly destroying the adoption of electric vehicles in the United States. It’s just unbelievable how unreliable they are. Fortunately, I have a 40 amp charger at home but when I take a road trip, it’s always a less than stellar experience. I will never buy another EV that can’t use the Tesla charging network.

      Hi Donn, thank you for watching! We are in the works of doing a video explaining why we did not purchase a Tesla. A brief sneak peek... the insurance is insanely expensive for both Kaitlin and Eray, the recent problems with build quality, and the inability to use Andrid Auto. Not to mention the politics behind Elon Musk. We hope you stick around to watch the video and give us your opinions then.

    • @midwest_ev

      We have family that live in CA who have a 2013 Tesla Model S and have enjoyed the ride with them! Now, the build quality, especially compared to the German built VW, is a concern for newer Tesla models is a different conversation.

    • @RoqueExclusives
      @RoqueExclusives Год назад

      @@midwest_ev You don’t buy a Tesla for the build quality. You buy it for the software and a better charging network. 99% uptime on superchargers.
