The Elise is such an addictive car to drive. Lotus quality really took a giant leap forward with this car. That was always my main complaint about Lotus: the build quality and reliability was always iffy. Much like Alfa Romeo’s, you tolerated their flaws because they were such amazing cars to look at and to drive. I’ve driven several Lotus models because I work on European cars. The only Lotus I ever owned was a 1973 Europa John Player Special. The black and gold color scheme was stunning. It was the best handling car I’ve ever driven, especially fast on twisting roads. It was always breaking down, but it was easy to pinpoint the problem and fix it. I always traveled with a tool kit and a fire extinguisher in that car, luckily I never had an engine overheat or catch on fire. It got stolen and was never found. I was really bummed out, but at the same time I had to laugh thinking about all the problems the thieves would have with it.
I'm Lucky enough to have an Elise and an 08 S240 Exige. Both rev and sound SOOO good. I have recently put the remote reservoir Penskes on my Elise, and yes, the ride is so comfortable for what it is capable of! Also, a man after my own heart.. upshifts on boring straights/traffic, a corner means DOWNSHIFT TIME!! lol
For reference on age limits on owning an elise, my neighbour had a first gen elise until recently, was probably 80 when he stopped driving it, and just sold it at 90 after having it sat in his garage for 10 years. I think he sold it with around 8k miles on so was pretty special

A proper drivers car. More fun for sure than most of those Hyper and Supercars. Alone that it is a manual transmission you can drive heel&toe makes it so much more fun that anything that is currently available. And most of all you dont have to worry about any scratch.
Actually the engine won't be fine. For some reason the 2zz in the Elise eats intake cams. So you need to check on it early. Supposedly a lot of early Elise cams were not properly heat treated. My Elise was one of them. I had to replace the cam with a monkey wrench racing cam and four new rockers. Then i made a custom oil rail to be sure it got the oil it needed.

One of the most beautiful car in the world
i like the simplicity of it
Literally my dream car. Thank you so much for this video!
OMG it sounds like an old era superbike
I'm Lucky enough to have an Elise and an 08 S240 Exige. Both rev and sound SOOO good. I have recently put the remote reservoir Penskes on my Elise, and yes, the ride is so comfortable for what it is capable of!
Also, a man after my own heart.. upshifts on boring straights/traffic, a corner means DOWNSHIFT TIME!! lol
best car ever made with the best motor ever made.
Great overview. Love my Lotus not sure if anything in future will ever replace it.
For reference on age limits on owning an elise, my neighbour had a first gen elise until recently, was probably 80 when he stopped driving it, and just sold it at 90 after having it sat in his garage for 10 years. I think he sold it with around 8k miles on so was pretty special
I kept watching for cops for you. Great video.
you can actually HEAR the timing change. in my yaris t-sport you could feel it under half throttle but in this car you can actually hear it. Love these cars they're amazing on the B roads.
Dude, I really can't explain how awesome your videos are. It does a really good job of making me feel like I'm right along for the ride.
Now I just need to figure out a way to afford one of these. LOL
Elise’s are “cheap”. The prices are starting to balloon a bit now that production is ceasing but they are still mostly low. Come check out the classifieds on Lotus talk forums!
personally i love the sound of a nice 4cyl
This car proves that acceleration and top speed isn't that important in a sports car. This looks fun as hell to drive
You are livin' the dream sir. Lovely car, and lovely review!
wow! never thought a 4 pot would sound so good. she screams!!!
I actually saw one parked at ace hardware, it was awesome!
I really like your recent videos with more "classic" cars
Holy shit this thing sounds amazing
I love the motor I have a 03 matrix xrs with the same motor and it's fun even tho it's much heavier than a lotus of course but still fun and the sound of a 2zz specially when it hits lift is sick
It looks so spacious Inside
This is Steve McQueen friendly. Especially because it's raw inside. Daily driver for sure. :)
This is easily one of my favorite cars you've reviewed and now i want one :,)
Best drivers car, best handling, the best formula use this car (light weight, high rev engine realible to loud exhaust fast, and thats it simple car you dont need more of that) pure fun and adrenalin this world needs more cars like lotus elise the car with soul 🙂
That vw to your left at the beginning was getting it to 😂
This yellow car makes everyone go faster 😆
@@TedwardDrives 😂😂 truuuuue
Thank you for the front seat ride! One of the best I’ve seen, have to get me one. Orange, safety green, yellow, or red in that order lol.
Such a good car one of the best
Holy frick it sounds so amazing
This is my dream car, such a cool machine
I got surprised with the nice sound right at the beginning. Wow
Been waiting for this car!!
The auto play video before this was a Top Gear clip with Jeremy Clarkson. At the end he quoted the 0-60 times of whatever car it was and he said it was good but THIS is faster.. Your video comes on with the acceleration of the Lotus. It was funny and perfect.
Sometimes RUclips is very very clever
BRILLIANT VIDEOS!!
Thanks Keith!
