Lyrics:
Brother what is with you, you can't take a hint?
I need to shove a sprint between your eyes for you to see
You and me were never meant to be
Your homeboy likes me, I like him, too, get out the picture
I get your point but I'm not rolling with the punch
I scrunched up the letter you wrote me in lunch
In 5th period I pay no notice to your motion
My work is on the table, my pen's in locomotion
Every time I turn around, you're looking at my face
I try to ignore you, the bell rings, I race out the room
Zoom to another room, sit down, what do you know?
The lover's in town
The other brother (Who?) The one I want to talk to
Sitting three seats back, and I'm a walk over to him
And give him the letter I wrote
Because my feelings towards him are brewing, ya know?
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
In 7th the knucklehead walks in and sits down beside me
I said "Yo why you trying to ride me?"
Day in and day out I can't seem to get you off my back
What do you think I should do about that?
In fact it's embarrassing, what a bufoon
You even follow me in the ladies bathroom
Give me a break, I can't take it, the stakes are too high
Besides, there goes the other brother
I'm not Keith Sweat, so don't sweat me
The other brother's smooth approach is what gets me
He intruiges the Mon you know
So I suggest the course towards me you blow
You're wasting time pursuing Monie
Cause she's pursuing the lover only
And as my mother did she told me
Go for what you know, Mo, yo
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Bringing matters to a close and everybody knows
That I'm no longer in the middle
I made my decision, precisely, precision is a must
For me to solve another riddle
Step into a brand new rhythm, ism schisms
Nope, I'm not with 'em, I've given
My undivided attention, you know what I'm saying?
No type of games I'm playing when
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
Yep, Monie's in the middle (Where that at?) In the middle
Monie in the middle (Where she at?) In the middle
(Go Mon, Mon, what is she?) Monie in the middle
Monie in the Monie in the Monie in the Middle

Really miss when jazz played a big part in hip hop
I’m 74 and I think this is outstanding
My Generation X 1965-1982/the days when Hip Hop Music was KOOL and FUN to listen too.
wtf you talking about? this is my generation. this came out in 90. and I was born in 81 was never part of gen x
@@JokersNtheOddball '81 is the tail end of Gen x
@bettywhiterules5 no. It's technically not. It's technically the start of millenials. But we who are of 77 to 82 are a blank generation. We understand what nobody else does. Believe that
people who were born between 1965-1982 belongs to Generation X. rather you want to or NOT. blame your parents not me. I'm from that generation too.

When lyrics had meaning in the rap song. This will never get old!
HERE IN 2024! NASTOLGIC MEMORIES!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Happy 54th Birthday Monie Love!(Born July 2, 1970)😃🥳🎂🎉🎊🎈🎁🍾🥂🎀🌷🌹💐👍🏾👏🏾🙌🏾
Notice artists that have talent don't need to accommodate anything else. ....talented speak for itself
The world was not ready for this masterpiece
I thought she was from New York back then but she's actually from London. Definitely a classic!
Yeah man from the UK I was always impressed by her and that fact she was representing England made me feel good. And she was doing tunes with the he heavy hitters like queen latifah
Yes dope
Still a classic new york or where either in this planet.
@@jimlewis7200 True...my point was though that there weren't many rappers from the U.K. back then or even now. Most rappers during that era were from the New York area. I couldn't really hear a British accent in her music
@@DLICIOUS42 agreed
Didn't understand what she was talkin bout back then cuz i was like 8, but i knew the hook. Queen Monie!!
Her flow is art
See how she can rap about a women and two men without taking her clothes off and cursing God I love her 🙌🏾❤️
Talent
Yes!
Originality at its best.
Saw her on do this Pass The Mic. Very talented and pure good vibes!
Love Monie
I took notice of this with women rappers.
Rappers like Lil Kim,Foxy Brown and Lauryn Hill blew up around the sametime in the late 90's. Since that time we've seen more versions of Lil Kim and Foxy Brown and fewer versions of Lauryn Hill. Maybe it's because it's easier to find women rappers like Lil Kim? I mean, any woman can do what Lil Kim did. Lauryn Hill's thing was more creative/complex. So it may be harder to consistently find Lauryn Hill types that can also sell. This may account for why we hear so much of the samething when it comes to the current women rappers.
2024, we still dancing and having a good time to this. Gen after gen enjoying this
80s 90 was no joke
I am with you 100% blujay girl!!!
I know. I lived thru both...
Literally the best decades for music to get the crowd. on the dancefloor steaming.....I was DJ at that time. Simply no words to describe the weekends.....
Amen to that!!!
This song never gets old
One of the greatest female rappers to never get a real opportunity
Bro the beat to this song has been stuck in my head for 30 years. That electric organ riff in this song is killer. And that bass line too, it's just unreal.
Me too!!
@@melissaharrison5718 I love to hear that. I don't think I've ever met a person in real life that knows this song, let alone likes it as much as I do. You made me happy :)
Who still rocking this in 2020
Me
Have you heard the story about her and kane with McDonald's
Go for you what you know yo!
My mom just bumped it and you already know we jammin
50 year old white guys
Oh my gosh!!! I know I’m late with this comment but this is when everybody just freakin got along man! Every genre had their own peoples enjoying their music and nobody gave a flying flip. Living life to the max. Who can relate?!
This remains one of the best HipHop House cuts of all time...
I haven’t heard this in decades!!! This was my jam!!!🥹
Monie’s style and flow is so incredible! Its nice to see real hip hop how I remember it! AND when artists still made music videos! 🔥🔥🔥
Nobody was flowing like Monie back then. Before her I don't remember anyone spit their lyrics so fast and staccato. People of Jamaican descent just seem to ride a beat different from other rappers.
Lisa Left eye was very memorable too. rip sweet girl. Love Monie; she looks great today. !
It's not where you're from. It's just that you have to know the lyrics and have good lung capacity
correct - toasting as it was called - is definitely embedded in jamaicans and their descendants
Roxanne Shante did it first and was the Queen of Battle Rap before Moni.🤷 I still loved them.both but Roxanne definetly did it first!!
@@3434abab TLC wasn't even heard of during this era Moni Love, Roxanne Shante, MC-Lite and Queen Latifha!!!
This is the ONLY rap song I can do start to finish. I’m 65 BTW 😂
Monie Love performed this song on In Living Color during its second season in 1990. This takes me back when I lived in Maryland during that time ('90-'91) when this song came out.
At the 33rd Grammy Awards in 1991, "Monie in the Middle" was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance, but lost to MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This." The following year, in 1992 at the 34th Grammy Awards, she was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance again for "It's a Shame (My Sister)" but lost to LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out."
She's going to appear on a new season of "Unsung" TV series..in march..can't wait to see it!👍
It was a good episode.
I miss these days of Hip Hop… Shit was just so Fresh back then…Every Artist was original & had there own style… I’m glad I grew up in that era. 💪🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Still loving this song in 2021! Her flow was tight. Me and friends on the playground getting our young life rapping these bars...(lol) you couldn’t tell us nothing.
Aww so cute!
Lol!!!!!! I heard that !!! I remember her and so many other female rappers from the late 80's and early 90's!🔥🎤🎵🎶🎵
Me too!!
Bruh how come this video dont have a million views smh this song ia better than Cardi B Wap bring back the old school 90s hip hop
A classic. Monie Love remains one of my favorite female lyricists. Her flow, delivery, and lyrics are top notch.

Another Top Number One Legend HIp Hop Music 🎶🎶 Artist ❤❤❤👍👍👍👍💯🔊📀
I just had to add a comment, I am loving the backup dancer! A lot good Memories of all the good old school music video just great fun...
💯It is one of the reasons why I keep coming back to this video. In this period, dance moves, hairstyles, and gear was ill. The B-boy/Breaking/Graffiti era was wicked as well.
Who still listening to Monie love ❤️ 2021?💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
QUEEN OF RAP MONIE LOVE 💕
This still my shhhh..... Still listening in 2021🔥🔥🔥
Mone' love never dies out
Back when Hip Hop told stories, took you on journeys, could be anywhere in the world and feel like you're right there with them as they flow!! Long live the Legend of Monie Love, Queen LA, Mc Lyte, YoYo, Heather B, and all femcee pioneers!!
After watching her bless this in the virtual Pass the Mic on DJ Cassidy IG, had to come here. That Pass the Mic made me feel some type of way,. Greatest thing I've ever seen on IG, at least in 2020.
St8 up same here luvd her energy
LOL...Same here!!
This song is everything. I miss this sound.
This was the first cassette I ever bought, I was 10 years old i caught the bus by myself downtown to buy it from record town.
10 years old today is different from back than, lol kid catch the city bus today, in couple hours , parent reporting missing, worst, they have a cell phone.lol
@@jimlewis7200 facts a lot of ten-year-olds don't even know their way around the city
I did the same except I was thirty 😆 🤣 😂
And her album was wack
@@chicoredd7414 it sounded just fine to me.
Saw her perform this song last night at the Hollywood Bowl. So good!!
Horn section classic 💯💪
Talent just oozing out of her pores. I was in junior high when this dropped. The entire current top 40 doesn't hold a candle to this. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Me too!!
I scrunched up the letter you wrote me in lunch.
Old skool early hip hop at it's best
When rap was great and talented.
so good
Been here over 25 years ago;. I know she's going to laugh! Everytime I eat cheesy and good food. I think of her. She's in the middle, like cheese.. My Sister!. Good times in my 20's. Now I'm in my 50's. It's very rare that we love artists like this. I'm Blessed to Still hear her on Atl station 104.1. My Sweetheart 💋😘. I'm sure that I'm older but she's still my inspiration ❤❤❤. She even kept Queen Latifah together but if course she never gotten credited for it. When you get so Famous and Big, you tend to leave certain people behind. But what goes around comes around 😢😮😂
Here's the thing it's 2020 and they still haven't caught up to this joint, Monie rocked this hard as hell. This is what Hip-Hop is missing today that vibe, that feel, that ant any minute you can set it off. Monie 4ever, PEACE !!!
Takes me back to Video Music Box, Yo!Mtv Raps, buying 12”s w my friends as a tween on Fordham Rd in the boogie down (Bronx), and *PROPER* hip hop in general. I had such a mad crush on Monie ;) One of the world’s greatest MC’s of all time
I can't even remember what color was the label lol. Constantly playing and using it for park parties
Yep when Fordham Road and the rest of NYC used to be FLY
Monie was cool. Always liked the song and her video.

Monie in the middle 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
I always do the Monie in The Middle Dance when I’m in good mood 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾 3:18 - 3:23
I am living this song now and constantly re.minded of James Kenneth Williams 2nd who was my high school sweetheart that broke my heart and took another girl to the prom. We dated all years and he told me days before that he is canceling on me. It was sad. It was so sad. Then he went on to Marry a Carribean Queen. His college sweetheart. God bless America. My home sweet home.
Brings me back to junior high. Track is straight up fire.
What better way to explain a high school love triangle 😂😂😂
🔥🎧🔥2020 still rocking this legendary classic hip hop old school baby stay safe world😷💯💪🏿

Never realized how great we had it in the 🇺🇸 USA!!!! Then!!!!!
Damn, this jam just dropped me back into one of my H.S. classrooms!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
30 year ago,,Always thought those guys dancing at the end were really good,,,
Damn i miss my 80s-90s dancing days
Miss this vibe & the dancing styles that encompassed the 80s & Early 90s hip hop.
For those wondering, the girl on the hook is rapper LeShaun. She was in a group in late 80's called "2 Much" and went by the name Almond Joy and had a hit song called "Wild Thang" where LL Cool J sampled. She came out again in 1993 under the name LeShaun.
ruclips.net/video/kCkpRJtHvgk/видео.html
Yes Sir! LeShaun is dope...she should have blown up! The industry kind of sucked for female Mac's back then.
2021 still listening 😍🔉🎶

Just seen her live. She still got it

That's a wicked dance step at the end. let the twerk rappers try that.
