  • This process should be the same or similar for most GM trucks and SUVs. If your AC compressor needs a clutch puller, I have had good luck with this one before.

    You just saved me probably 600 bucks on a new compressor. Works like new. Thank you for taking the time to make this. 🙏

    specs are .018 - .030 --- if you are at .050 and you remove .015, youre still over with .035. Most times there is more than one shim in there (up to three), and can remove one of the shims. If only one, you can sometimes move the shim or shave some off. Great video and glad you're up and running.

    Worked perfectly on a 2001 2500HD 6.0 gas with the OEM Denso compressor. Even took the same amount off the spacer to get the air gap right, as well
    Side note - there was a fair amount of crud (dust, carbon, whatever crap collects in the engine bay) that had built up in the center section between the clutch and compressor. Cleaning it out didn't help the air gap, but did seem to result in more freedom of motion for the clutch. I was tempted to try it like that, but chickened out and adjusted the air gap as well.

    This is a GREAT video! My 2004 silverado was having intermittent compressor problems. I removed the clutch following this video, filed about 10/1000 off the shim and re-installed. Fixed my problem. Thanks!

    Fixed my issue. Just replaced AC compressor and other accesories, afyer vacuum and recharge i noticed the compressor made a grinding noise when i turned AC off. Added a shim and got it to spec, now quiet as a mouse. The installation instructions didnt say anything about shimming and the shims the compressor came with were the wrong size. Used a shim from the old one. Thanks a lot 🙏

    Thanks, I was thinking I might have to get an install kit, puller, new car, etc. This is a great video! fix it with a few hours of time works for me.

    Great video,I couldn’t get my clutch to slide off,threaded a bolt in (by hand) and it came right off. I removed 1 shim and it works perfectly. Truck has 211,000 miles on it

    This is exactly whats wrong with mine. Gonna do this tomorrow but I'm a bit lucky to not have a mechanical fan, just 2 small electric fans. So I can pretty easily reach in from the top and pull the clutch out

      10mm head but don't recall the actual bolt size. Google search tells me a 10mm head bolt should be a 5mm bolt. That may or may not be correct.

    My ac clutch had an air gap. My dealership adjusted it even though my warranty covered replacement. They detailed my car and disconnected my battery and I lost my presets and back up camera has moisture. I am not a happy camper. Any advice?

      If you are unhappy with the dealers work, then I would call and talk to the service manager.

    if the plate wont slide off easily put 2 small screwdrivers exactly across from eachother and lightly pry, itll come off. must apply equal pressure and be exactly across from eachother. this works on literally every make and model with a compressor like this.

  • @Xxmeca421xX

    Mine is grinding when off and I can see there's no gap left so I can see it grinding. It engages fine so it must need a new shim right? I want to pre order parts but I'm not sure if I need a bearing, clutch or shims.

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  3 года назад +1

      Grinding when off sounds like it is too close. You would need to add a shim. Did you replace the clutch? Odd it’s too close, as the clutch wears the gap gets bigger.

    • @Xxmeca421xX
      @Xxmeca421xX 3 года назад

      @@mjmcomputers it's the factory one. It does grind more on one side than the other like it's leaning some.

    • @mjmcomputers

      The clutch may have failed then. Probably best to replace it. I replaced mine here: ruclips.net/video/Bjr2TxDWdHI/видео.html
