    So did the wing just disintegrate? Structural fail?

      Yes. Weakness in the early wing design. The wing sweep was modified on the later models after this tragedy. If you observe a picture of this aircraft and later models, you will see the difference in the silhouette of the wind shape. Poor souls. RIP.
