I've been listening to this song for over 40 years and I never tire of it. It's a shame that today's music has lost its roots.

I got to tell you...it really moves me to hear all your comments about Led Zeppelin. You see I'm 72 years old. And when I first heard them ..you know away back then; I recall saying to myself these guys are something else and they are special. Little did I know. I was into a lot of great music back then, but I knew something was different about these guys.
So it feels really really good to hear your comments. I know some of you are very young and into Zep. I find that really kewl. I know some of you wish you were born in my generation; and I know some of you were willing to lose a testicle if you could have seen them.
I was a lucky lucky man. Zeppelin was the first concert I ever saw. It was their first tour. When I recall that performance even today; I shake my head in disbelief because it was sooo unbelievable. I was so powerful, that two of my friends actually left somewhere in the middle of the show. They said they literaly crawled out of the Montreal Fourm on hands and knees because they couldn't take it anymore. It was just too much for them.
Well my luck didn't run out. I saw Led Zeppelin 3 more times after that. Man... I wish you guys could have been there. Your lucky to have video and amazing stereos. I know it isn't the same...but it's the best your gonna get. What a group. 72 and I love them as much and more today as I did back then. Nice to have the company guys.

+Fyloeu They said it was too overwhelming and they couldn't handle the performance any more. It was just too powerful. They told me the literly crawled out of the Montreal Forum on hands and knees. I didn't even realize they had left. that was back in 1970 and I have not seen them since that time period. I wish I could see them and ask about the experience.

I honestly think music today has lost a lot of passion and its creativity. Nobody today can exert the energy and time needed to create the beautiful sound on an acoustic guitar like jimmy page. He is probably one of the most illustrious guitarist that has ever walked this planet. I Absolutely hope one day music like this returns to continue to make my ears and heart rise to crescendo.

My question is why am I just hearing this incredible version for the first time?! Maybe because I’ve worked so hard to take care of those I love and haven’t had much time for myself. But now I’m retired and do have time to listen and enjoy, and this sure was enjoyable! Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were/are superstars for a reason. Their music will last for centuries to come.

How in the heck have you never heard Led Zep’s back catalog after 40 years? Yea, the taking care of Family sounds so noble and “like” able on your part….but luckily, you just randomly stumbled onto this video and just heard this for the “first time”….congratulations Sir !?!

This is exactly the kind of music video I expected a cable channel with the title Music Television (MTV) to play, but it never happened. I enjoy music and watching those that create it and it has taken far too long to make videos like this easily accessible for those with busy lives.
I wouldn’t call sacrificing some of lives simple pleasures noble though, just responsible, and well worth it. As they say, sacrifice when you’re young so the future you can have an easier time of it.

In '73, I returned back to the U.S. after my time in the Vietnam War. Houses of the Holy was the first album I bought... well actually it was an 8-Track tape. I remember lying back with my headphones on and listening to The Rain Song and thinking, "Waooo, this is different". I fell in love with the song and 44 years later, I'm still here for more. The music helped me to heal after what I'd been through, though it took a long long time.

Things started to heat up by summer 67.... SO much music ! We were drowning in it ! All the bands that broke out at Monterey Pop....Hendrix...Janis.....
But when The Zeppellin landed it took us all by surprise....Cream had been incredibly heavy but this was a whole new level.

There are many people who dont understand Led Zeppelin I am truly blessed to have been there to enjoy the 70's the best decade of my life , except for 1984 when my daughter was born........ there is a 10yrs maybe 12 yrs between us age wise and once i bought my first album Houses of the Holy I knew I found my main genre of music , I enjoyed a few others such as Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave , Tom Petty, but what Zepplin had that very few other bands had was endurance , the ability to play a 9or 10 min song and kill it , do it justice and that is was Jimmy wanted , i recently read in an interview me and my group of friends could always enjoy our RP and JP to the end and never be tired , as Jimmy said in an interview and I quote how can you be tired of something you put your heart into and that you love so much, I have been on my own since 45 + yrs and that is true my stepfather put me out on the streets when i was 14 , I remember because I had to get a job and the law was a parent had to sign a work slip to get the job , it was hard beyond belief and now I also knew it was illegal but i had my music LED ZEPPELIN, I wish I could have been in that small exclusive group of people who got to see all they had to give and know what they were experiencing in that intimate setting in Denmark truly musical geniuses

Jim Rodgers I don't won't to act like that one edgy kid, but I don't think my generation's music is the best. I think it's awful. Late sixties to before 2000s rock is the best, especially 70s. So I guess every generation thinks their's is the best isn't completely true, but to be fair, I'm the only person I know in my school that loves Zeppelin, that even knows about the band for that matter.

There is no doubt that Jimmy Page is one of the Top 5 EVER guitarist. He also ALWAYS looks like he's enjoying his craft which makes the audience feel connected. I've seen him twice in my life and both times were almost a spiritual experience. Further, this is the best version of the Rain Song.
I'm from St. Louis, lived in a small enclave called Lake St. Louis, next to Wentzville. Wentzville was the home of Chuck Berry. Every summer Chuck had a bar-b-que that I attended more than twice. Once I asked Chuck; "in your opinion, who are the greatest guitar players in modern rock". He said "the two Jimmy's".....Jimmy Hendrix, and Jimmy Page.

I still don't understand how Page came up with parts and structures as amazing as he did.. I never thought he was a magnificent guitarist (very good), but musically he just had it back then. No one has come close to things like this.

I agree. All the back and forth about whether page was the best or not, and his slightly sloppy technique misses the point. His gift was the combination of skill with an unparalleled ability to come up with unexpected riffs and amazing and beautiful composition like this one. The fact that most of them are actually fairly easy to play is, in my opinion, a testament to their quality. If the compositions were burdened by virtuosity they wouldn't anywhere near as effective.

Page was a fantastic guitarist. The drugs and booze took him away from his talent many times. He was on heroine and Jack Daniels during many of the famous concerts that were recorded and are some of his worst performances set in stone. I've seen many great techincal guitarists that can't put art and tech together, the dynamics are the marriage of both.

inglishbulldog I never thought of it like that, but now that i think about it you are
right... That song always soothes me, but it is more than a song is a
master piece. Is love, faith, death, beginning, hope, forgiveness, all
in one song... You forgot to mention that the violins that sound in the
back are like trees moving gently in the breeze, while the piano and
mellotron make the clouds, and rain drops...

    • @apolloptx
      @apolloptx 9 лет назад +2

Maricel Kidd You nailed it! I ALWAYS think of that sound, as the sound of trees. Even when it was just Jones playing the mellotron live back in the 70's, its like a wave of sound, released by the trees, that washes over you, and paints the canvas in wide strokes.

This song is why I picked up a guitar at age 10 and it happened to be a 12 string. Now I’m almost 28 and can still put to shame any man who thinks he can “play”. I sit quietly until I can retune it for Going to Cali or this one and just play the shit out of it usually ending with bron yr stomp or aur. Still their reactions and looks on their faces are priceless, yes I’m a girl who just put u to shame.
