After getting bullied in art school, I have had art block for 7 years. I watch videos like this to regain the art life.
I’m really sorry to hear that; I hope you can overcome this and get creating again 🙏
@@b.cormier Thank you Brooke! Your videos are great and offer inspiration to all of us.
The struggle never ends. I found once I moved away from Toronto after a long career there, the access to nature became easier and more natural, this helps with inspiration considerably. To live in a place that inspires you daily should be a goal. Your work is good and deserves it.
It is really the goal. I’m hoping my new home in Vienna will do just that!
Thank you 🙏
I love this kind of video. I personally struggle with perfectionism and all that nonsense that always ends up causing a creative block. One way I get out of it is by just having fun with what I'm doing and forget everything else. Giving that inner child a moment to play and not to reach something perfect. Thank you for your content It is so cool
Glad to hear it 🙏 and yeah I totally agree, that’s a healthy strategy!
This was such a good discourse! I used to be really hard on myself if I couldn't produce in the time that I allot for art. But as I've matured with the art, I realize that forgiveness, as opposed to brute force, was a more efficient approach in the long run in dealing with the natural ebb and flow of your sensibilities
Well said! Knowing when you need to rest is so important 🙏
I absolutely loved this video, Brooke! 💜Walking and hiking are also my go-to ways to refresh my mind and find new inspiration! 🌿✨ I'm a Ukrainian but I moved to the Atlantic part of Canada 2 years ago and I love to explore local nature. And when you mentioned wanting to try hand embroidery - my heart skipped a beat! 😍🧵 I’m a full-time embroidery artist, and I’d love to welcome you into this beautiful world of stitching. If you ever want to give it a try, I have lots of tutorials that make it fun and easy to learn. Would love to see your take on embroidery one day! ✨💖
Awe that’s amazing!! 🤗 thanks for sharing and I’ll be sure to consult your videos when I begins my embroidery adventure 🙌
Great video that I’m sure will help many artists suffering from artists block. 😊 I especially liked your comment about how lucky we are to live on this beautiful planet… too easily forgotten during these unsettling times were in.
Unsettling indeed. But the healing power of nature is just unparalleled, and I’m reminded of it every time I step into a forest 💚
Great video!!! I really appreciate what you said about taking breaks and doing something different, like making jewelry or going on nature walks. It’s important to step away sometimes. Not to sound like I’m selling mindfulness and meditation, but the idea of impermanence really resonates-life and the mind aren’t meant to stay in one constant mode.
Similarly, careers aren’t just fixed roles. Answering emails, reading, researching, setting up plans, attending conferences, visiting museums, taking breaks, etc. That variety helps reset my mind. It’s all part of the bigger picture
Lemon ginger honey tea 😊
Yes!! Very well said. And honestly meditation is something I want to get into more this year for that exact reason. Thanks for watching and having a cup of tea with me 🍯
Watching your videos I think nature will always be a great source of inspiration you can keep turning to. Great sunset behind you and seeing all the trees reminded me of my Grandpappy who emigrated to Canada around 1920 and even became Canadian lumberjack sprint champion. How about that!
Haha I love that! What an awesome title 🙌
Hey Brooke! I was missing to watch your videos. Happily, your video appeared in my feed again. You have this energy surrounding you. I can't explain it. Your videos always bring me joy. Lately, I haven't had a block in art, but a block in my whole life. Here in Brazil we type "kkk" for laughing. But there is another one to express the kind of mix of laughing and crying which is "KKKrying". I've been facing depression for a couple of years (I think, who knows, maybe even longer). And that made me feel without motivation to do anything. So I've begun, again, to workout at the gym since two months ago, and I started to feel a little better. Of course that I've been doing therapy, and trying to do things I like besides sleeping a lot and procrastinating. So, I also think I have to avoid more social media. I agree with you, endless scrolling and comparison are the worst. You might think you're getting more inspiration but you feel like sh**. Things I have to do more often, and also helps me to live in the present is be in nature and reading books. Since this period of two months I mentioned before, I'm in a process of creating a daily habit of reading books. And not digital versions. The real ones, when you feel their weights on my hands, can smell and feel the texture of the pages. It's priceless and I feel much better. Oh, and yeah, I like the format of this videos as well, outdoors. Thank you so much and have a great weekend!
PS.: Oh sorry about that, too many words. Thanks for your time!
Thank you Rodrigo! 🙏 and I’m glad to hear that you have these healthy practices set in place to help yourself, that is amazing and reading it motivates me to do the same! I just finished a (physical) book a couple days ago (just a good ol’ mystery novel) and I loved it 😊
Thanks for putting out content like this. You really seem to have a passion for helping artists because you really tackle topics that elevate and move us forward.
Thank you 🙏 it’s just all stuff that I struggle(d) with, so if anything, it’s just nice knowing we’re not alone!
Hi Brooke, I’m a watercolour artist and I love watching your videos while doing my commissions and painting. I have especially loved the unscripted videos, but I love the backdrop for this video! Nature definitely helps with burn out and inspiration for me and most people. Love these videos and can’t wait for the next one to come out! 😊
Ahhh I love to hear that I’m keeping you company while you paint! 🫶 thanks so much for watching and for your support!
I agree that once one has curated their pinterest it feels like that's all they need to open for future inspiration.
Totally! Right now mine is all interior design as I try to envision my future home lol
Great way to start a morning, with a BC vid ❤😁
🤗🫶
I recognize so much of myself in you ! It is so refreshing to see some honest openness and reassuring to know that I am not alone. Thanks again for your video, I really appreciate it and i will certainly look at your books recommandations !
Awe I’m happy to hear that 🫶 thank you! I left links to the books in the video description if you want to have a look :)
I love the video outside! Even though your indoor videos are also cozy
Thanks Megan! ☺️ I’ll be filming wherever it’s nice until I get myself a place to live haha
Love the new style videos, your a natural, your advice is great, we all struggle with block sometimes, great to hear an artist being themselves and not afraid to discuss vulnerabilities.
Thanks so much,
Would love a video about how to run a business, the ins and outs of shipping artworks, ordering gyclee prints etc.
Even packaging, like how to crate a painting…
Thanks for the lovely video Xxx
Thank you so much! 🙏I really appreciate that. And all great suggestions for future videos!
Thank you so much for this, I see you and appreciate you 😊 also, green tea!
Ahhh I love green tea 🙌
I have news for you: I'm an 80-year old, long retired 9 to 5-er... and there is never enough time in a day to do all the things I want (and need) to do! Advice: Just do it!🤘
Hahah thanks for the advice Maria, you’re right! 💪
The little wee at the end was charming as hell I have to say. Then you fighting for your life trying to shuffle towards the camera 😅
As someone with a million interests, but wanting to make it as an painter, I appreciate this. Lovely video, thank you
Hahah thank you so much! 🥹🫶
Nice one, Brooke! Getting outside into nature always clears my head. We do live on a beautiful planet! Now I'm off to enjoy this snowy day! After that, I'll be warming up with a mug of Vermont Maple Ginger tea😻
What a wonderful day ahead 🙌 that tea sounds amazing!
Thanks. Struggle with this block crap a lot. Photography & wood carving are my things. Going for a long walk right now.
Enjoy your walk 🙌 hope it gives you a spark
Wonderful video Brooke. For the past several weeks I have been composing an orchestral arrangement of Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" and recording/videoing each instrument in my bedroom or living room, but then yesterday I thought, "I should really film/record outside in nature when it isn't raining." Your video is inspiring me to get out of the studio more to recharge.
Amazing! I love to hear that. I’m sure your arrangement will turn out fabulously 🙌
honey and lavender tea over here! thanks for another wonderful video.
Mmm sounds so cozy, thanks for watching ☺️
Sometimes we just need to doodle and paint for fun, it's SO hard for me to paint without thinking of how I can impress and cater to my audience! I just went full-time as an artist and i'm nervous I am going to get into a rut since my focus is now to make a living off of art. This video was such a great reminder, I also pull most of my inspiration for nature 😊
Congrats on going full time! That’s amazing 🥳 hope you can find a good balance between paying the bills and making what you love!
Thank you, Brooke. The struggle is real!
Hang in there 💪
Enjoyed the chat, nature has always been my inspiration too
Thanks for watching ☺️
I too like to review my favorite artist work and videos for inspiration. Also you are right social media is a drain.
I find it really gets the creative juices flowing!
Ok I’m now your biggest fan ever! I could watch your videos on full repeat 24/7. You’re sooo soothing to listen to and so real. I started painting one month ago and I’m struggling. I love painting but I’ve been using acrylics but I fell in love with an oil painting and tried to replicate it but it’s sad and pathetic next to it. Makes me wonder if I should do oils. Why did you choose oils when you were starting?
Awe thanks so much! 🥹
I also started with acrylics and then went into oils. They’re very different mediums for sure, and it took me a while to get the hang of oils, but I found it very rewarding in the end - I think if you stick with it you’ll agree!
Hehe =D Actually drinking the tea "Wintertime" right now =) such a beautiful video. And yes! This planet is stunning, let's do everyone what we can to protect it... :)
So fitting! 🥰 and yes yes yes 🌎💚
My favourite tea EVER is an Earl Grey with real lemon juice and honey ☕ I recently found your channel and it inspires me a lot so here's a little Thank You from Scotland 😘
Ouuu I’m going to try that!! Thanks so much for watching 🫶
Nice shot (the camera pov)!
Thank you! ☺️
It's Greenfield Kenyan Sunrise Black tea, no sugar :) Thank you for this video from Belarus.
Sounds delicious 🙌 thanks for watching!!
Yes on books, yes on deleting or reducing social media (time hog and mental block #1). Pinterest is good for me too, even if there are some concerns about ads and AI on there.
Glad you agree 🙏
This looks like you're inside one of your paintings. Next vid we want mushrooms! Wish you the very best!!
Hahah thank you! 🍄
I love wildlife photography. Try and make getting out into nature a priority. It so clears away the cobwebs. It’s so important as a creative. 🙂
Definitely! Clearing away the cobwebs is a good way to put it ☺️
Thank you so much for your honesty and beauty! I love your videos. Being inspired is something that can’t be forced just like you said. I get my inspiration from being out in nature and knowing Christ. That relationship has inspired my entire life and art career. The creation that he has given us is breathtaking. I Everything I do with my art is inspired by nature when it comes to the photography and painting of nature. Earl grey tea latte 💖💖💖💖. What’s your favorite tea?
Thank you so much! ☺️ we all have to do whatever’s best for us! And mmm that sounds great, I think my favourite tea is Heavenly Cream by Sloane Fine Tea Merchants ✨
I love your videos. Do you shoot SLOG? Your colors are always on point.
Thanks so much! And I don’t think so?? hahah honestly I’m still learning about colour grading and all that - I just know when I import the raw footage it doesn’t look all washed out… which I think means I’m not shooting in SLOG lmao. Ask me again a few months from now, colour grading is on my to-learn list 😜
Oh well, right now it's flaxseed tea. 😉😃
Ouuu I’ve never heard of that!
Thank you, Brooke. I am blocked right now. I will try some of these things. How does one get a mentor and what does that look like? I have never had one.
I hope these things help! 🙏 and I suppose you find an art mentor by asking around in your area or online. It was kind of a coincidence that I met mine right at the time that he was looking for a mentee!
Great video. I also love being immersed in nature. I am drinking an herbal tea called Dirty Hippy, from my local tea shop (spirit oak tea). They have an online shop if you are interested! 😊
Thanks Sandy! And hahaha love the name 🙌
I like these natural videos where you’re speaking off-the-cuff. It feels more authentic. I prefer looking at the snow rather than walking in it, though. Not a tea drinker, sorry. I do like an occasional iced tea, though.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I appreciate it 🙏
Good talk thank you!
I will check out the Pinterest tip. I literally NEVER go there.
Thanks for watching! It’s a great app for getting inspiration for your creative interests :)
Don’t change your dp 🤗
Start reading and using Pinterest more is an artists version of take an ibuprofen and drink some water
Hahah great analogy 🙌
