    SkyGrades has been updated for the Air 2S. Now the colors match the Hasselblad Camera of the Mavic 2 Pro!
    SkyGrades Cinema (Air 2S) ➤ geni.us/SkyGradesNatural-a2s
    SkyGrades Natural Pack (Air 2S) ➤ geni.us/SkyGradesCinema-a2s
    Noise Reduction Profiles for Neat Video ➤ geni.us/NoiseProfiles-a2s
    Buy the Air 2S - geni.us/AIR2S
    A couple of things I didn't get to mention :
    -After spending more time with it, I've realized that the Air 2S colors aren't perfect out of the box. When compared to the Mavic 2 Pro, they're lacking warmth and depth. After hours of work, I've update all SkyGrades presets for the Air 2S to match the colors of the Mavic 2 Pro.
    Further things to keep in mind,
    -1080p 120fps kinda sucks. If slow motion is important, I think the Air 2 may have this beat.
    -4k 60p crops the image a to a 1.3x crop or so. Aside from using this as a slow mo mode, you can use this as a crop only mode by shooting and playing the footage back at 80% in a 24fps timeline. Although that's always possible in post if shooting 5.4k
    -Matt

    I was able to hold back many times from getting a new drone or shall I say, upgrading my first drone which was the DJI Mavic Air I got years ago, but now might be the perfect time for me to finally cave in and catch up with all these upgrades. The features on the DJI Air 2S are definitely tempting!!!

      I feel the same, because I need it for professional use I'm not sure if I wait till the Mavic 3 Pro comes out. Which definately will have either a biger sensor (maybe micro 4/3) or an interchangeable Lens with different focal lenghts. It is very likely to see at least 6K video, due to the competition. I expect longer flight time up to 40 minutes, due to the biger size of the drone.
      DJI definately have to give the new Mavic a massive upgrade, if not, nobody will buy it.

    This is one of the best videos I have seen to compare the two drones. I appreciate your comments about the oversharpening in the Mavic 2 Pro and the marked improvement in the Air 2S. I have found the sharpening in the M2P to be quite jarring at times. In some videos I shot of mountain peaks against a cloudless sky, the outline of the mountains looked like someone did a crude selection of the mountains and then copy/pasted them onto a blue background.

    Hey Matt! Thanks for this awesome review! We still have the DJI Mavic and are on the lookout for a new drone.
    Quick question for you, how does AIR 2S handle wind? Is it almost as heavy as the Mavic 2 Pro? The reason I asked is when we went to New Zealand and flew our Mavic 1 drone, it got blown away by the wind. Luckily, I managed to find it but that was a crazy experience haha.

    New to your channel by way of this review. I have been wanting the Mavic 2 Pro for quite some time now. But the price was a big put-off. Plus, I believe it's coming to the end of it's consumer cycle. I own the Mavic 2 Zoom and the Mavic Air 2. Bought both immediately after their release. (Had an Autel Evo 1 as well until the RC failed and caused it to crash. But only after almost 2 years of use) You put out some well-thought out reasons for me to get this bird. If you need active track, hop over to 4k (I think it's oversampling and not binning in that mode, so its still sharp. Great review again Matt. always the first review I look for when it comes to drones.
    I've been happy with the Mavic 2 Pro since it first came out, the camera was so good that I often thought it's probably as good as I need. Even an APS-C sensor wouldn't feel like a massive step up, that drone was so good. As a hiker and landscape photographer though, I'm always looking to shed weight from my pack but never wanted to do it to the detriment of image quality that would come with the Air 2, so when I saw the rumours for this it was the first time since the M2P came out that my interest in a new drone was piqued. I've just hit the "purchase" button because it's pretty clear that in IQ terms with that sensor and the faster bit rate, this is going to be every bit as good, if not better than the M2P. For sure there'll be a Mavic Pro 3 at some point, and for sure it will have to have an even better camera (although I suspect any improvements will be incremental rather than essential), but it certainly won't have the benefit of being as smaller and light as this. So for me, this is the perfect upgrade from the MP2 and I'm super stoked to get out and start flying it. (I was kind of hoping for it to be compatible with the FPV goggles thought, I think DJI missed a trick there).
    Great review Matt, all the best from Portugal

      Mavic Pro 3 will have either a even biger Sensor (Micro 4/3) or a interchangeable Lens. Or maybe both.
      This will make it a much better drone for professional use, then the Air 2S or the Mavic 2 Pro.
      Very likely to see 6K or even 8K Video. You never know, may be they will include record options like ProRes.

      They've simplified the settings a lot, you can't choose contrast or saturation any more, but it's set in the sweet spot anyway so it's no big deal. You literally just choose Dlog, h265, and then shoot.

    Thanks for the wonderful review. I purchased the Air 2 three months ago so I'm a little agitated with the timing of the purchase. I would have waited for the 2s. Three questions. One, I bought the Smart controller with the Air 2. I'm guessing that it will be incompatible with this model? Two, are the batteries interchangeable with the Air 2? Three, no HDR? The Mavic Air 2 has HDR. Why would eliminate that? Thanks for your reply !

      @thefilmpoets  3 года назад +1

      You're still good to go on the Air 2 IMO. HDR is unique. I'm not sure about the smart controller but I believe it would still work. Same with the batteries. I think that the quad bayer technology that makes HDR video possible is only available in smaller sensors right now. Thats how new tech works, it starts with the smaller chips and build up as processors become faster.

    Finally someone who's review didn't irritate me by throwing out incorrect terms like equating "adjustable" aperture with "variable" aperture. You know what you're talking about. I immediately noticed the price to quality ratio. I've owned the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom for a little over 2 years now. I just bought and picked up two Air 2S fly more kit drones at the local Best Buy. I am selling my old drones this weekend on my eBay. I am a part 107 remote pilot. I will make a tutorial in a few days on how to use the DSC Labs ChromaMatch Pro color chart to make a DLOG-M to Rec709-like LUT in Resolve with accurate color. I will primarily shoot in 5.4K and then zoom in the edit when needed. It will be a solid 1080p even at like 55mm so that's great. I love the 22mm focal length. 28mm on Mavic 2 Pro wasn't ideal for my types of shots. As for lack of adjustable aperture, I just use the most ideal ND filter and when shutter speed needs to be increased slightly I'll just use motion estimated motion blur in Resolve to fake the 180 degree shutter angle when it is a bit off at times. I will miss the Cinelike profile from the Mavic 2 Zoom but overall this Air 2S drone combines the best of the Mavic 2 line :)

    • @izoyt

      mavic2 is more steady and stronger platform than air2. it's not just about pixel peeping in drones. but io do wish dji could upgrade firmware for m2p, so we could finally use digital zoom. this was wish of many users for years now, since it does crop (1;1) ans full sensor mode anyway , which i think it is similiar in 2s also.

      @@izoyt I own the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom. I used them both in this recent video I made: ruclips.net/video/6SLOMZGU8cs/видео.html - For me, the Air 2S blends the best of both worlds and I like that it is smaller as well. It is ideal for me and the types of videos I make. Sure, I'll miss the Cinelike profile on the Mavic 2 Zoom (Air S2 doesn't have it) and the adjustable aperture on the Mavic 2 Pro, but I'm an advanced user who will simply choose the level of ND I need to achieve a 180 degree shutter angle in the lowest level of exposure I'm expecting to need during the flight. In areas where I'll need to bump up the shutter and go say 1 stop lower EV (90 degree shutter angle), that blur can be increased to simulate 180 degree shutter angle style motion blur using motion estimated motion blur in Davinci Resolve. I am crafting my own custom corrective LUT files in Resolve for typical daylight and cloudy conditions over the next week or so, utilizing my DSC Labs ChromaMatch Pro color chart to go from DLOG-M to a Rec709 look. I will make a tutorial on that soon. Yes, the Mavic 2 is heavier and that does make it better in certain conditions. The Mavic 2 duo is still the best overall, but not my favorite anymore. I owned the Inspire 2 and X5S a few years ago, but for me this new Air 2S (despite the trade offs) is my new favorite drone for travel :)

      @@izoyt Mavic 2 Pro sensor is basically identical to Air 2S, though uses the Hasselblad color science. About a 27% crop and that's why we get a 28mm focal length in Mavic 2 Pro instead of 22mm. There is also a sensor crop mode in Mavic 2 Pro that gives you 39mm in 4K as well (more like 3.5K really). So you kind of have 2 lenses, but you have to choose before you hit record. I used the sensor crop mode a lot. Mavic 2 Pro is a great drone :)

      @@izoyt There is a sensor crop mode and it works with DLOG-M. You just go under the 4K video settings and switch from full to, I forgot what the wording is, but there's basically 2 modes. Full FOV (that's the 28mm one) and then there's another 4K recording mode that is more narrow, that's about 39mm. It's basically a sensor crop but might be more like 3.5K really but just sharpen a tiny bit and it looks great. It works in DLOG-M as well.

    Hey i really like your content, just i want to say that the HDR of the Air 2 is not real HDR because is rec 709 and the AIr 2S has HDR is called HLG and is 100% real HDR footage in Rec 2020.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  3 года назад

      There's some confusion when it comes to HDR. You're referring to HDR recording, where the dynamic range of the scene is captured in the same way but the luminance values are recorded at higher ranges for playback on HDR screens.
      The magic of the Air 2 is that it also has HDR capture. It creates two exposures and blends them together to capture higher dynamic range scenes than is possible with single exposure, non-hdr capture. They should clear up the naming of these to avoid confusion. but it's demo'd in the settings guide here - ruclips.net/video/7yWWcZBntCE/видео.html

      @@joeychm The difference is your clipping points in HLG are exactly the same as normal recording modes, they are just DISPLAYED brighter. HDR recording actually increases the dynamic range of the recording, so whites clip later and shadows crush less.
      Another way to think of it is this : you can have You can have SDR in and SDR out. (normal recording, or clog) HDR in and SDR out (Air 2 HDR recording. or SDR in and HDR out (HLG mode) - HDR input is the only one that increases dynamic range of the camera.
