And that's our show! The Plus channel is taking a break now: thank you so much to all the production team, to everyone at Whistler, and to you for watching. Merry Christmas!
I recognised an Aussie twang in Chris' speech and Googled him. He was born in Darwin, of all places, and originally competed in the bobsleigh for Australia. Having read his bio, I can see why he was so open about the fact that you can end up on your head: "He was involved in a catastrophic crash in January 2012 during the 2011-12 Bobsleigh World Cup in Altenberg, Germany which put him in hospital for eight days. After having his skin shredded and a piece of wood the size of a kitchen knife embedded in his back, Spring considered retiring but later returned to the track in April 2012."
Not surprisingly, most Australian ski (or bobsled) bums come from states where it snows a lot. So it's strange to see one from a place where it never snows.

I wonder if the crew knew a bit of the history of their driver , Chris Spring , and his traumatic bobsled accident of January 2012 during a practice run in Germany. Bobsled hit the roof and even took out part of it. Didn't know if he'd be able to work up the nerve to pilot a sled again, be responsible for the crew, but he did just weeks later and he said he feels the accident made him a better driver.
I love how from about 11:47 onwards for a little while, if you listen closely to the sound it sounds like something's powering up (presumably because they're picking up speed). Also *kinda* sounds like a rocket launch when listening with headphones and the volume up (could just be my audio enhancer, though). Really awesome stuff!
My only little disappointment is that, just for funsies, the sled team didn't give them the full "Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's bobsled time!" (If you know, you know)

The glee in Tom's eye as the demonstration is done is the biggest gift of them all, plus shitting the pants of your production team that rode the sleigh is a highlight for us all!
UnFun fact: Going down a blobsled track ONCE is enough to cause permeant brain damage. It's not just the big crashes that lead to "sled head" but also micro-concussions from the number and intensity of small jolts that happen on a sled run.
@@richcran7975 Sadly, there's only so much padding can do. The only realistic way you can stop these long-term issues with head injuries over time is to just not do those sports in the first place. Plus it isn't just the obvious ones like pro wrestling (where you're literally trained to take bumps on your back as tom showed) or american football, but auto racing, bobsleigh like you see in this video, association football, rallying, BMX, even submission-focused martial arts like BJJ still show athletes who get cte later in their lives. The more we research these long-term mental health conditions the more we're realizing, depressingly, that many of the seemingly innocent sports that exist all lead people down these awful conditions later in life.
@Rich Cran Won't help, the padding would be needed inside your head. As your brain is not in a fixed place inside it. So padding on the outside does reduce it, but there will always be some bonking on the inside

Tom Scott: The Musical
"I steer using the pressure in my butt" ah so just like Hans Niemann
Cambria, you're reaction is my favorite! It's exactly what I would be acting like in your place. Thrilled with a slight adrenaline overload 😂❤
Another brilliant video! Thank you Tom and team for all the amazing content this year! Enjoy a well deserved holiday!
Merry Christmas, Tom, tram, and everyone else.
The effort put into the captions are just amazing.
More!
I agree, it's very addictive channel and admittedly I prefer this than the main channel
Im absolutely loving the content thats coming from you guys from my hometown! Hope you're all enjoying your say here on the west coast!
To everyone that works behind the scenes and Tom himself, Merry Christmas!
As a Canadian, I learned more about my country from your videos than in school!
Thanks Tom and the production team - have a happy Christmas!
Ive loved watching this series and seeing Tom slowly but surely embrace his inner adrenaline junky
looking forward to whenever you come back for more of this stuff
Went to a channel.
Found a memorial.
Its the sound made by moving air, like when you blow on the edge of a bottle hole..... maybe
My only little disappointment is that, just for funsies, the sled team didn't give them the full "Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's bobsled time!" (If you know, you know)
Looks to me like the same track used in the film!
And that's a bucket list item now. Great that you took the whole team Tom when you could have done it with just a camera person.
That looked FAST. The alarming thing is that in the footage you can see the pushers aren't giving it half of what they do for competition.
Thanks for doing another episode in my back yard. Hopefully you guys were able to get out before the snow storm rolled in. Thanks you for keeping up with the amazing content
I love that Tom is trying out and experiencing so many of the things I've always wanted to do but sadly can't due to illnesses and disability. Thanks Tom for having this channel be your "I'm curious about trying/checking out..." channel as it seem to be the source of a great sense of joy for you but also because it somehow makes me feel better in times I'm bummed that I'll never have a chance to full fill a particular dream of mine. Happy you're living the life you wish to have.
I just watched this video while on a Japanese Shinkansen and boy, the immersion was real 😂 Looking forward to your videos in the new year Tom!
I would have cried if one of the camera team got off and then said "Meh! I've had better!" even if it was just a joke.
Happy Holidays from across the Canadian border! Thank you for the brilliant videos this year!
I really wanna do this :D This seems like SO much fun. Could you post a short with only the POV of the sled going down?? That would be awesome

Sports were a mistake.
So padding on the outside does reduce it, but there will always be some bonking on the inside
fantastic! I hope the break isn't for too long !
this is just an excuse for Tom's production team to have a holiday in canada and writing it off as business expenses
found the IRS agent...
@@PrograError i am not, **wink**
You totally have found them out.
