    To me this is the sharing of Cultures and Skills. It has the power to lift both to greater heights. I would love to see an interview including the Bali craftsmen.

    Yes, it's a wonderful place...and I'm a big promoter of Bamboo construction as well as tons of other products we need!
    And I have plans to build a similar school on the island of Lombok. I traveled all the way from Germany to Bali, and rode on the back of a scooter to this Green School. But the staff there insisted that there is no way to have even a brief look inside the school, unless I make an advance appointment! I tried to make the point that such bureaucratic approach really defeats the message of openness and human flexibility, etc., especially since I am not a tourist, but a designer and teacher ready to spread the philosophy of the Green School in a real way, like a smaller copy of the school. But, with little budget and little time I couldn't see a time for an appointment. I had to leave...almost in tears. 😢 Of course,I'm still following the 'School of Life' idea...and strongly advocate for Bamboo instead of trees. Message to Humans: "Everything wood can do, Bamboo can do better!"
    Save our forests! Greetings! Christian

      I apologize, if I'm misreading this, but it looks to me as if you're planning to compete with them by building in their backyard, as they also build outside of Bali. And you're asking them to give up their secrets to a competitor to help him compete with them. Hm......

      I’m afraid you read this incorrectly. This is not about a business for me, it’s about giving poor kids a chance to learn what it takes to improve their lives!
      There are 235 million people in Indonesia, and most are poor. Competition is nowhere in sight here. It’s urgent need that motivates me. They don’t get enough English to apply it in a job. I can help them within 2 years to speak effectively. Bamboo as a material is just logical for building. Never mind their business, for mostly white people, by the way. I’m already teaching on Lombok, but in a WARUNG, a beach restaurant. So, thanks for your interest, and don’t worry, it’s a great project!
      Hati Hati!
      Chris

    Lord take me there. I want to absorb the light and love so I can spread it out to the place of my birth that's lacking love of bamboo even though it's available plentifull. It's amazing how love of bamboo can change life. I am loving it.

    Very informative tour. Question…are the chairs in the classroom really necessary? Most of Asia and the world sit on the ground. Less material, labor and opens up the space.

    I'm lost sometimes. This Kate is talking about "we here at Greenschool...." Wasn't it Eloras father John the founder? I even get the sense they are competing...

    the bamboo pillar bottom is dug with which material ?

    • @jimhood1202
      @jimhood1202 Год назад

      One of the methods they use at Green School is pouring a concrete base, mounting a large river stone on top with steel rebar running through it then offering the bamboo from above (shaped to fit the stones shape) and filling the base internodes with concrete to secure everything together. The end result is structurally very strong while looking totally rustic and natural. A lot of work, but worth it.

    it's just unacceptable to see people walking inside a bamboo house or classroom with shoes on. Just so dirty. but good job tho!
