- How to make a foam free calla lily and allium seed head design with Wazakura black kenzan
Ingredients - mix of small pink and white calla lilies, alllium seedheads, variegated iris foliage, touch of sweet william and grasses
Low oval dish, pin holder / kenzan as the mechanic
This pretty design features these lovely little calla lilies set with the spherical heads of the alliums, using a kenzan pinholder to hold the flowers in the water.
Watch to see how we create the arrangement and just how useful the kenzan is for holding the flowers. This kenzan is from Wazakura and is in a black colour which really helps it to disappear into the background.
A kenzan is a great addition to your floral art toolbox.

Wonderful design, John! That variegated iris foliage is quite spectacular - it "makes" the design, I think. And for me, you can never go wrong with calla lilies. Beautiful, my Friend!
😊 thank you so much! You are right about the iris foliage - I need to stop using it though or I will have none left! Hope you are having a great week! 😀
Another amazing design John. The seed heads are so unique.

Just gorgeous! I've never used a pinholder before and I like how it looks as if they hold the stems so easily on your first pushing them in. It's very restful isn't it?
Thank you so much! They are a good mechanic to hold flowers - you can buy them with different lengths of pin, and with different a,punts of pins, so there is a pinholder for every use really. I find a 8 or 9 cm diameter one a very useful size.
Hello,John‼️ from Japan.
You are amazing that you are challenging Japanese Ikebana and introducing Kenzan (Pinholder) to people
in the world. How did you learn them ?
Hello! Thank you! I study Sogetsu ikebana and have my diploma for 4th grade since last year 😀 I love ikebana
