The masterful performance from Colin is on another level. He has soo much nuance, subtlety and range it makes you love and hate him at the same time. He feels like a real person on screen reeling with pain, desire and anger. So many iconic scenes. Give him an emmy already!
I’m not much of a movie person so I heard about Colin Farrell for the first time through the Penguin. I was shocked to find out he’s Irish with a strong accent. He’s class and definitely hopping onto his other movies.
Collin is doing what Ledger did with joker. people are gonna talk about this show but especially his performance in this. it's just as good if not better but only better because we get much more screen time cause it's a show unlike the dark knight
Seeing Colins portrayal is in my opinon why humans are so scary. Someone can really imbody a whole entire person, and you would believe that realty. The greatest ability humans really have...
The writers deserve credit as well, they gave Colin something amazing to work with. I believe Jared Leto’s Joker could’ve been at least okay if the writers gave him a better character to work with.
@@eskanda3434 Sure, writing, wardrobe, makeup, directing and the actor themselves make up the character. If one of those things is off the whole thing can fall apart. I wouldn't say Leto is a terrible actor, so I wouldn't say his Joker being a flop was completely his fault. A case where everything about the character was off. Then in the Penguin, everything is perfect, just how it goes.
Nothing could've made Jared Leto's Joker good that would be impossible. Jesse Eisenberg and Jared Leto were terrible castings. The DCEU was just doomed from the start. It had a terrible introduction to Superman and it got worse and worse as it went on. Warner Brothers truly knows how to destroy a franchise before it even begins.
Your explanation of this character is so on point. I wonder what this precise version would have done in Christopher Nolan's Batman. But that is just a What If. Colin Ferrell is made for this character.
Personally it's not even that I forget it's Colin Farrell, it's that I just can't see that it's him even when actively trying ! Dude is far too good for not being at the very least nominated to the next Emmys. Him and Cristin Milioti deserves it.
lol this comment stuck out to me, because the typical idiom would be “bottled lightning”, or “struck gold”. I still understood what you meant tho, and I agree
Colin Farrell is such an extraordinary actor,he is like the actor of the whale,he took a lot of time and physical sacrifics to become that transformation, really impressive, not only physically but the personality, the psychology of the actor and everything.
It's a masterful series, and confirms Farrell as one of today's finest working actors. The man commits to the character on an almost religious level, and you can tell he spent a long, long time building Oz into someone that's both relatable and horrifying.
I agree with your review of Farrell's performance but a large part of why we forget it's him is because of Mike Marino's makeup design work. Stunning work down to the pores.
It’s because the writing is nuanced and Farrell is magical. Oz has “redeeming” qualities. He adores his mother, clearly has his own kind of love for Vic, and despite being willing to do terrible things to get there, wants to be remembered as a sort of working class hero among the disadvantaged of Gotham. Tie that with the fact that we’re seeing a truly transformative and career defining performance from Farrell? It’s impossible not to root for him. What’s arguably as impressive is it’s equally easy to root for Sophia who is on the opposing side
But is it manipulation if it's true?... The penguin be spitting bars in that scene tbh. He's right, Vic's family will never be cared about, same as no one will care about Vic
The coordination in that sequence of different feelings, you'd say it's scripted as minute as you described it or rather it's mostly Collin's great performance ?
Great question. I think the pace of the scene and the flow of context is there on the page and that definitely shapes the way the performance ends up being, but a lot of the nuances are added by Farrell. The writing absolutely works in collaboration with the acting.
The scene where he speak to Sofia outside the Club with glassy, teary eyes proof that Collin's performance elevate those scene. The writing is good but anyone else could just say the line and no one cares. You can see that Milioti also affected by Collin's performance on that scene (She nearly try to comfort him when the camera pans out forgetting that her character also face worse situation ).
SPOILER when vic killed his first, I immediately said to myself " he did the right thing." And when he met Oz, he literally told vic "you did the right thing." That's how Farrell succeeded on making us see the world through his character
Colin Farrell will be to the Penguin what Heath Ledger is to the Joker... this is a FACT! Farrell's Pinguin is a mix of Tony Soprano with Walter White and a pitch of the Pinguin fron the arkham games. Is just perfect and so diferent... A performance so good that i can compare to Ledger's joker.. And Sophia.. owww boy! Cristin Milioti ROCKS! a complete 180 to the comincs.. but is so perfect!
Farrell is every bit as good as James Gandolfini was in the Sopranos if not better, HBO could easily have another classic series in the making with the Penguin 🐧 it’s almost a perfect series, proving woke, lgbt, DEI content needs to be dumped fast and get back to making some seriously good entertainment.
Looks stupid . I hate these high budget episodic character driven tv shows. Give me dick and fart jokes . What happen to superbad step brothers . I wsnt raunchy comedies back
Stop. The show is super woke and Colin's acting is insanely ridiculous as well as his entire costum. Why didn't they hire someone that looks like that?
Oswald IS enjoying his lifestyle of mayhem and manipulation but it is enjoyed much like an addict enjoys their vice. Ultimately it's bad for them and will be their undoing.
The masterful performance from Colin is on another level. He has soo much nuance, subtlety and range it makes you love and hate him at the same time. He feels like a real person on screen reeling with pain, desire and anger. So many iconic scenes. Give him an emmy already!
100%. Incredible.
I got emotional watching his monologue to Sofia in E3, purely because of his acting.
Episode 6 I told myself this dude needs an Emmy NOW
Watching in a few hours. Can't wait!
The whole series and crew
I’m not much of a movie person so I heard about Colin Farrell for the first time through the Penguin.
I was shocked to find out he’s Irish with a strong accent.
He’s class and definitely hopping onto his other movies.
100% agree, Colin Farrell has had one of the most consistently amazing careers.
Look at the other series that just released with him, where he is a Private investigator, the name is Sugar
In Bruges is my favourite movie, he has his natural accent in that. Give it a watch
@@duggs4456 Thank you😃
Are you related to Victor Oladipo?
Colin just invented this totally new character and delivers a brilliant job of acting him out.
Absolutely!
No one going to talk about Penguin's mom?
Brilliant, as is Cristin Milioti as Sofia.
This! The 6th episode, wow.
It has an eerie feel to it when you think about it...
The writers deserve credit as well, they gave Colin something amazing to work with. I believe Jared Leto’s Joker could’ve been at least okay if the writers gave him a better character to work with.
Agreed, even the best of actors can look half assed with terrible writing. And actors are always blamed for it entirely
@@clydetheabdomenmuncher8786 jared had a tattoo that said damaged on his forehead and gold grills i couldn’t take him seriously no matter the writing
@@eskanda3434 okay, maybe not the best analogy but you get my point

Best cast in anything in a long time!!!!
Amazing!!! Colin will get the Emmy!!!!!
Love how you dissected his emotions. Great Video
Thank you so much!
pretty good analysis man. just finished the new episode, and it feels like its getting better.
Thank you very much! I agree - still have to watch the new episode though.
He feels so real I feel like I met ppl like him before 😊
Excellent breakdown much appreciated. Agreed total master class
Your explanation of this character is so on point. I wonder what this precise version would have done in Christopher Nolan's Batman. But that is just a What If. Colin Ferrell is made for this character.
Amazing! Transcendental performance... Colin Farrell's performance will be the staple of film school for generations to come.. mark my words.

They really struck lightning with this one!
Absolutely agreed!

@ yea I was too lazy to change it again 😭
Love this show. Best DC series ever IMO.
Colin Farrell is such an extraordinary actor,he is like the actor of the whale,he took a lot of time and physical sacrifics to become that transformation, really impressive, not only physically but the personality, the psychology of the actor and everything.
Absolutely true. The last episode was even better somehow it’s crazy. Love the Mat Reeves world
God that bathroom scene is just about as good as it gets 👏👏👏

This is great. Thought you’d be a huge channel when I checked your page. Only a matter a time with this quality.
Thank you so much! :)
He makes me proud to be a Dubliner and Irish ☘️ he will get an Oscar for TBM2 I'm sure of it. I knew this series would be great...
I forgot this was Colin after episode 1, master class in acting..
I agree with your review of Farrell's performance but a large part of why we forget it's him is because of Mike Marino's makeup design work. Stunning work down to the pores.
His portrayal reminds me strongly of Ferry from the series of the same name just with more malice. Ferry is a brilliant series.
The whole cast being great must be a factor in elevating Farrells performance as well?
Absolutely - it all works together!
it has the breaking bad effect where it makes you root for the villain

10:15 might want to look up the definition of “detrimental” before using it. you just said he brought the whole project down with his performance lol
Probably meant instrumental
nice
He reminds me of Tuco from the good the bad and the ugly
ELI should of been given a.Reward for his role
He's taking the Penguin where Heath Ledger took the J0KER, To new heights
actually its a trick... he's not wearing makeup here, it's the other times that he's wearing a hot guy suit
😅😅😅
the other kid makes me think of the Weekend am I wrong?
At this point if you want to win acting awards just act as DC villains
It’s as good as in The Batman, but more to work and stretch
Reminiscent of Sopranos.
Who laughed at 9:19?
If he doesn’t win any rewards, then the rewards are rigged.
