A quick disclaimer - A lot of these videos use information from the witcher wiki, in some cases I do read directly from the pages, I do always make sure to include my own thoughts and other information I know myself, but I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here. Even though I use information from the wiki, I do still create the videos, with time, effort and a lot of editing! The idea behind the lore videos is to present to information to you guys in a fun and more interesting way then you guys having to get the information from pages and read it yourself. If anyone isn't okay with this I apologise, but since day one I have always said where I get the information from. Thank you for reading.
Olgierd is one of my favorite characters in the Witcher. Even his battle theme is amazing. Hearts of Stone is so damn good
I love the story so much, it has a completely different vibe to any other witcher story.
It’s amazing except for that fucking toad
@@mattbunch5069 Am I the only one who had no problem fighting the toad? Like I just spam the shit outta Rend with severance and it died quickly, the 5 Olgierd cunts is harder.
Hearts of stone was fun, i like the rune system, but my favorite dlc has always been and will always be blood and wine
What's creepy is that after you finish the Iris quest and she ceases to exist, if you turn back and go inside the manor again you can still hear her crying.
Olgierd's character and "Heart of Stone" come from the Polish legend about Mr.Twardowski, who, by selling his soul to the devil, tries to outsmart him.
However his band and way of life is very similar to story about Andrzej Kmicic from the book "The Deluge" of Henryk Sienkiewicz, where Andrzej Kmicic (here Olgierd von Everec) is a bad nobleman who, due to the war turmoil, takes on the deeds changing him from a brawler to a hero.
I talked about that Polish legend in my Ganuter video, very interesting indeed.
gaunter is chernobog
Olgeird is David Beckham
I got that some several days ago, while I watched Beckham checking out some cheerleader on a basketball game, and couldn't believe no one else connected it.
Kudos to you Sentinel.
Olgierd's accent is also Manchester
I came here just to write that exact thing.
Stop Breathing Beckham has a London accent lol
and Vlodimir is Oleksandr Usyk
I don't think he ever actually asked to be immortal, i believe the words were "to live like there was no tomorrow." And Gaunter took it literally.
Ah cool!
awesome vids man really loving it!!!
Lachlan Rainbow My understanding aswell. Fuck, hearts of stone is perfection
Anybody feel a sense of closure after finishing the expansion? I didn’t, and idk what it is.
@@itscoolthough419on deathmarch they were all easy except that damn iris wraith that heals herself every second!
"Iris, what a mess we made of it all"
Geralt decapitating Olgierd is one of the best scenes in the Witcher the true shock in geralt is just amazing
So awesome, when you play the first time, you're like wtf...
Best fight too. IMO.
I always thought he made the Hearts of stone DLC what it was (aside from G.O.D of course) he seemed fleshed out and equal parts relatable and a ass at the same time, especially after you go to complete his third quest. Sometimes this game really makes ya think man, anyways appreciate the vid.
Best course is to challenge Gaunter for the Loot...that Sword bro.
André Niemand Yeah thats one possible way too look at it, although consider the fact Master Mirror will be back and when that happens its safe too say he's gonna be none too pleased with Geralt and will want too dish out a little pay back.... 😱
I'm playing new game plus and got the sword in my original play through, now I'm gonna be on Gaunter's side from here on out.
it gets bad fast the saddle is great tho
Id like one with eskel and lambert
TheJCghost what do you need to know, more than them just being your typical Witcher: hunting monsters, being hated, and one of them chose to be as bitter as possible. They’re like your average blue-collar workers, while all the camera focus on Geralt.
After the whole "Toad Prince" situation I was like "Olgierd is sooooo DEAD!", but after his quests and learning the truth he became one of my favorite characters. Such sad story, no other way to put it. And of course I didn't let this shithead take his soul.
He's so awesome!
Yeah, very well written story, like in the books. And the last quest, with the rose, so emotional. You can see him sinking into something he is not, while the world collapses around.
How about one on Regis?
Regis would be awesome!
I personally believe that Olgierd was interested in the occult before he had anything to do with Master Mirror. It was probably something he was interested in behind closed doors. Maybe he Von Everec tried it when things started going south for his family. I think that perhaps his attempts with rituals may have piqued O'Dimm's interest, so he made contact with Olgierd.
It's also very possible, seeing as Gaunter seems to be omnipotent, that he influenced certain events and made things go wrong for the Von Everec's to make Olgierd desperate for his aid. There might have been something about Von Everec's soul that O'Dimm wanted in particular.
Perhaps O'Dimm is similar in the Daedric Princes from the Elder Scrolls, as he was simply bored and wished to meddle in the lives of men to make things interesting for himself.
There's a dialogue in the game probably spoken by Iris when geralt meets her finally to ask the rose.. so iris asks how is olgierd to which geralt replies he's sad but pretends to be happy.. he has a powerful enemy gaunter odimm to which iris says I should have never listened to that witch who mentioned a man who fulfils wishes and told olgierd to meet him.
I played this mission a couple of days back.. i'm not 100% sure but I think I came across a dialogue like this..
I feel olgierd met odimm by chance and learnt demon summoning to end the pact somehow which didn't work tho as we see in the memories
They look like a ukrainian cossacks. Also leader of Cossacks was called Ataman, just like here - Ataman Olgierd.
Their appearance is a mix of Polish Szlachta and Ukrainian Kozaks. They are nobles, and all equal, so that is a similarity to Polish Szlachta
Name wise, Olgierd is very Germanic
@@en6064 Olgierd is polish version of lithuanian name Algirdas.
@@LukasSRR and last name is really Dutch. So all names are actually mixture of different European languages. Like Skellige is mix of Welsh/Celtic/ Scandinavian yet Novigrad Velen Temeria etc is more Slav and German whereas Toussaint is France, Italian and Spanish. Actually we are exploring entire Medieval European paganic folklore proceeding from Polish interpreration and culture which is awesome
I love Olgierd, each playthrough I love him more and more, just so well written. Same with Dijkstra (book and game) the Baron, Gaunter, I love them all.
I'm on my 2nd playthrough, and yeah, the Baron is so well-written!
Three more facts:
1) he's based on the polish version of Faust: pan Twardowski
In it he's not supposed to ever go to Rome, but too late he finds out that the Restaurant is called Rome. He manages to escape, but ends up literally on the moon!
2) he's also based on the polish nobility which became overpopulated. They struggled to get a piece of the cake (2nd sons...). AFAIK, every name with -ski at the end stems from polish nobility.
3) he's modeled after a celebrity (guess who)
I looked into that a while ago and I think the David Beckham thing is a coincidence :)
Olgierd is definitely one of my favorite characters.
Olgierd (the name, the character, origin and responsibilities) is kind of typical Polish-Lithuanian etmon (hetman), a noble military general/commander/minister. The sword ressembles a hussar sword (~18th century).
Awesome character
I thought he resembles Cossacs?
@@sladjanteodosin4607 He's like a mix between Cossacks and Polish noblemen. His band and being called ataman is a Cossack theme, his clothes are typical 16th century Polish nobleman clothes. I think he is sort of based on Kmicic, a character of a Polish nobleman from the time of Cossack uprising.
I freakin' LOVE "With Fire and Sword"! :D But I've imagined Polish noblemen differently.
11:15 He's basically a Polish Cossack , isn't he?
Sorry to reply after one year, but yes. The weapon "iris" looks the same as cossacks weapons.
Didn't the blind professor said that Olgier met Gaunter at the crossroad? The myth of the crossroads revolve around demons making deals and trade souls for a wish, ie: myth of Robert Johnson. Also you can meet Gaunter at a crossroad as Geralt.
Personally...I say Olgierd is obligated to pay the price. I know some folks feel an innate need to save people from accountability, but I'm more than happy to give the devil his due. That said, I do appreciate Olgierd for one thing; he's given us a precedent of Warlocks {Goetia} in the Witcher setting; the use of occult knowledge to augment oneself and to summon aid. That, at least, is cool.
Olgierd is absurdly well written, brilliant character
He got what he deserved
It's a tragically depressing yet poignant thought that Geralt effectively becomes Olgierd's best friend and closest confidant.
😅 wtf you didn’t play the game or what ?
5:38 small error it was not olgried von evrec who killed his brother but gunter from the moment he made the pact (r$information revealed by the teacher in charge of knowing more about gunter)
the night he drew the pentagram and brought in gaunter to make the pact is the exact moment he lost his humanity, stolen by gaunter for his entertainment..
Coolest character ever
Ah yes, ancient David Beckham
In the Polish folk tale Hearts of Stone is based off of, Pan Twardowski is a sorcerer who makes a deal with the devil. Based on the inspiration/source material I think it’s safe to say Olgierd was dabbling in demonology before he met Gaunter. I always took it that Goetia was what allowed von Everec to summon O’dimm in the first place.
Why he resemble ukranian kozak?
I want to know how he got his title the adder man and how he become the leader of the redanian free company
He's the leader of the wild ones where Damian free company and he also has some kind of a strange title starts with the a
Am I the only one who wishes you could recuit Olgierd to fight the Wild Hunt
If I recall correctly, Gaunter is a Ginn, not demon, but a very ancient powerful Ginn? As for Olgierd summoning demons, I suspect it’s a learned ability later.
He is not a djinn but does have similar powers. The thing with gaunter is he’s far above djinns. If you want more info, read up on him! It’s really interesting stuff
What's creepy is that after you finish the Iris quest and she ceases to exist, if you turn back and go inside the manor again you can still hear her crying.
Olgried actually tells Geralt his story ...after loosing every thing he went to the tavern got drunk ,fought and got drunk some more and met the wrong guy(GOD) and told Geralt you have to be very careful with how you make a wish.
As for the demons ..I think he learnt that afterward as all the demons he summons is after his marriage to Iris during his heart turning to stone ...he starts reading alot of books to learn about demons and trying to get get rid of pact with GOD.
He's David Beckham
German name,Old Polish clothes,Irish looks,Arabic saber-that‘s Olgierd for you
I'm here to know how to spell my name in English XD
You can't give his actions a pass just because he had a heart of stone. He killed and robbed many for sport. Long before G.O.D. So he doesn't deserve your sympathy. And gaunter o'dimm only screws with bad people with dark hearts.
He studied the equivalent to demonology and how to summon these beings. It's clearly show in the painted world. Duh bro! How much research did you do?
Olgeird didn't purposely sacrifice his brother. Master mirror plays with words. I believe he had to sacrifice "something he held dear".
He didn't expect it would be his brother.
Easily one of my favourite characters.
Paul Thornley has such a special voice
A character on which Olgierd is modeled. It is called "Kmicic" and comes from a Polish novel by the author of Henryk Sinkiewicz called "The Deluge". Same as Iris. Here is his picture. ibb.co/qp7JHbs
Who is Arthur Shelby?
If you choose to side with Olgierd and save him, he then managed to change his way of life, and then became a great footballer known as David Beckham
This deserves more likes, it genuinely made my day
Olgierd is the best voice in video game history, I fucking love Paul Thornley
I am surprised so many people opted to save him. CDPR are really great writers apparently. Me personally, it was never easier to sit back and watch a dude just buy it in-game. He got what he deserved, point blank. ODimm didn't force him to make a deal, he was seeked to make this pact and in the end had to cough up that soul.
You missed out on a dope sword then.
Who is iris von everec? She is the character we all cried for
The voice acting on Olgierd might be the best I’ve ever heard
I love how in the ‘ scenes from a marriage’ quest he mentioned how iris and olgried should go to oxenfurt for a holiday but its actually so that olgried can meet the professor.
Ah ouiii c'est vrai j'avais oublié xD
Very Informative.
Fuck Olgierd, Iris deserve better. Damn this DLC is very depressing
Everyone here talking about how they love Olgierd, I do too but please give my man Vlodimir some love!
He was a chad
I can see olgierd being the one to summon gaunter in the first place
please tell me you didnt fight him with the sword hatori gives you
I think the caretaker is iris father well in body
I would like to play as Olgeird as the main character in Witcher 4
Didn't like Olgeird, him and his brother were the cause of their family misfortune, they were already bad eggs long before ever having anything to do with O'Dimm, one could say "karma got them" - but it's a simple fact that two clever young men should have continued to expand the family wealth and power, rather than spend their days terrorising and pillaging settlements like bandits.
Their initial actions lead them down a path they were on. It lead them and all around them to ruin and the countless unknown people killed before and even after their entanglement with O'Dimm.
Also let's be real, he's mostly responsible for the Toad Prince's death who could well have been cured, using Geralt to commit that crime too. His former love turning into a wraith because of many of his actions aside.
Happily gave his soul to damnation. Viper Silver Sword be damned.
Personally I think that he learned how to summon creatures while researching how to summon Gaunter.
"Wanted... to prevent... Further bloodshed"
I like how even Geralt is disturbed by Olgeird being alive while his head was hanging off.
Throughout my whole entire play through of hearts of stone, I never really quite knew what I thought of Olgierd von eric. I just thought what a shame every now and then because of his life.
how do you get not ghost vlodimir iris and olgierd in the same place? what mod? is it a change on yen or something?
Must be a recollection scene. Don't think it's a mod but not 100% sure.
Wth I don’t remember having to fight him? Did I miss something? Lol
Apparently Olgierd learned about Gaunter through the witch in Toussaint. Can’t remember where I heard this as I’ve been binging a crazy amount of Witcher lore videos and just Witcher videos in general. I also heard that summoning demons is quite easy but it’s forbidden. So I’m going to assume Olgierd already knew how to summon demons but didn’t know how to summon the correct one until he found the witch and paid her for the info.
0:23 that AINT natural
Can't believe I ending up sparing him, despite what my initial impression of him was.
@sbbsgdgejqiadvdh I meant Olgierd, not gaunter, MB.
@@guappodiablo1 He reminds of the Bloody Baron. A deeply flawed character but not all bad.
We know for certain Olgierd heard about Gaunter from a witch, and he got desperate and summoned him through Goetia, himself. I think Goetia is based on rituals, not the power of the individual. That’s how Olgierd originally summoned Gaunter and his other demons. Also important, is that Olgierd truly loved Iris, but Gaunter took that away. I also theorize that his curse was so effective, and possibly his goetia if I’m wrong about the first part, because his level of emotion; mostly rage and sadness, make him extremely powerful if he utters a curse based on it.
When you give Max Brosodi’s house to Olgierd, he explicitely says “then you ask the wrong bloke for help”. I imagine this bloke is Gaunter, who offered his services to Olgierd in the deepest moments of his life.
I remember going the “let’s stay out of trouble” when the guy gets beheaded in front of the woman, who is his daughter and briefly introduced several cutscenes earlier in Von Everec’s ex-mansion. She stabbed Von Everec to the heart, but he just stood there, implying that he is immortal, without me having to fight like during your intro.
Heart of Stone is just simply amazing as a DLC.
It's so awesome!
It's not his daughter the guy who gets beheaded is the one who killed her father.
My favorite character.... Oneness and Unique
I remember playing the witcher for the first time in 2015 or whenever the dlc came out and when olgeird pulled his head back on I remember thinking that was so badass
I can never let O'Dimmm take olgeird's soul. Despite everything he's done I just don't believe that he's inherently bad.
Also I think he just had some latent magical abilities since he could curse that prince when he had a strong enough emotional response, which isn't uncommon in the witcher universe. A lot of people accidentally discover magic talents so maybe he just started looking into it afterwards wondering what else he could do.
I also don't really think he summoned O'Dimmm because I cannot imagine O'Dimmm bending to human whims, he probably just appeared to him in a moment of weakness which is a common trend with devilish characters like him
I've been hoping for this video
Great job man
Thank you mate
Great video. :)
I tend to think he learned to summon demons researching ways to get rid of O'Dimm, but as you said it's not clear. I also wonder if his family's misfortune was related to O'Dimm... did he set it all up? It seems anything is possible with O'Dimm.
~Ashleyien
Gaunters role is to basically find 'evil' people who are easily corrupted by their own greed, I doubt that he'd set up the events of Olgierds downfall, but after Olgierd met him, it became Gaunters job to collect his soul.
However Gaunter may have decided to ruin his life by causing the events, as he was a horrible man (raiding and robbing villages).
Which is why I wonder if he did have a hand in it. He saw Olgierd and decided that he'd see if he could get him. Really, it could have went either way. There are many unanswered questions or things left deliberately open for interpretation.
Why don't u make ur own fantasy Witcher like story deep story kinda and make an animated not so good graphic webseries on that story since u have gained Soo much knowledge people would really enjoy since they love fantasy they love the Witcher!
After Geralt freed Olgierd from Gaunter O'Dimm's contract, Olgierd married Victoria Adams.
What i don't understand is the order of the wishes and how many olgierd was allowed , all right i know that olgierd wished to live like there was no tomorrow which led to gaunter granting him immortality with a heart of stone
But after you fight olgierd and gaunter shows up he says to him you still owe me 3 wishes as if he hadn't used any before ?? I just don't get it
Anyone care to explain
I just finished replaying HoS still a god tier dlc, great vid.
Having both Olgeird and Gaunter truley made this DLC what it was, so amazing
@@WitcherGeorge Too True!
Olgierd was my favorite character alongside Gaunter and Detlaff
If you rewatch the cutscene, the candles Olgierd uses become extinguished.
Olgierd seems to have some sort of fire power/shadow power (based on his fight scenes and frequent burning of buildings). He slams the ground and the fire comes from *him*. I think he has some sort of power granted by O'Dimm as O'Dimm has shadows (as seen in his riddle world) and seems to burn people to take their souls (the DLC's ending).
Nice observation man!
I replayed the final decision for the dlc like 14 times
Ah it's difficult, on one hand Olgierd dies, but Gaunter remains mysterious and Geralt need not ever worry about him again, on the other you save Olgierd and get that awesome sword (also defeating gaunter is a great accomplishment for Geralt haha)
WitcherGeorge yeah is agree there isn't one that I like more than the other. My first play through I just gave him Olgeird and told him I didn't want anything because I thought it would lead to more bullshit
I let him die and I wasn't sorry. I saw what he did to his wife
Would it be possible for you to do a video on the whispering hillock and what the force inside it actually is / why the crones fear it? Keep up the good work
Thank you man and sure!
In the third quest of Hearts of Stone in Iris' memories you learn, that Olgierd experimented a lot with black magic. After a summoning ritual went wrong he even caused a fire in his room. I always thought of this as some sort of proof, that he came up with the summoning demons thing on his own. This still doesn't tell us if this part of the story happend befor or after he met gaunter or if he dived into this subject because of gaunter.
Ohh sry should have watched the video a little further :D
It's fine aha
Nice video as always I am currently playing hearts of stone and in that dlc apart from olgierd and gaunter the land of Ophir and the order of the flaming rose are very important so could you cover them too?
I've covered the order, but I would love to cover ofier
Still waiting for my requested Vesemir video since the Dijkstra one :(
Sorry man, I will get to it, just working through it
No problem man! I am enjoying every single piece of content you make so it makes no difference to me! Keep up the great work, brother
"You're ........ Immortal?" Ha! Love the music that plays when you fight him in the game. A badass character indeed, but also a Dick at a few times. But I liked him and the DLC all the same so yeah. Anyways man a great video as always just keep it coming man.
One suggestion that I hope you take is to try and make videos about those characters who are in books and not just shown in the games, cause whilst many of those who watch the videos are only game players there are some who are both players and readers ( if what I said makes any sense!) But yeah it would be great to get some back story on some of the Kings like:King Foltest of Temeria(badass!) King Demavend of Aedirn(A Dick!) And Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia.
I named the monarchs whom you've done kingdom videos of.
I have made vids on isengrim and vilgefortz haha, but of course I will delve deeply into evey character in this universe!
WitcherGeorge thanks and yes I've seen those vids, and I only said those as an suggestion and nothing else so if you don't want to listen to them that's fine and I'll still keep watching your vids all the same. so no offence meant.
ah right, it's just your message said to try and not just do game characters so, I assumed u hadn't seen them yet. Good suggestions though
As always good work, witcher george. Appriciate this, go on, please.
Man, when I had to meet Gaunter O'dimm at that crossroads, and all those children were singing that creepy song...I was just thinking to myself...creepy children singing creepy song, at a crossroads, meeting at midnight...this guy's a demon isn't he? Olgierd made a literal deal with the devil, didn't he?
So awesome
To be fair, with a heart of stone as he suddenly and strongly pushed his father-in-law he may have not meant to kill him. But without his emotions he could not show any remorse or empathy for what he had done. And that to was the second last Nail in the coffin to Iris
How about a video on the Redanian Free Company, Olgierds Mercenary band?
Good idea!
You the man! :D
Thanks dude
Will you do a video of Leo Bonhart
Sure! great suggestion
WitcherGeorge thanks George 👍
Olgierd with his brother were "bandits" in their childhood (even Vlodomir said his brother wasnt typical bandit he had his interests etc. Also Iris said he was a good man at the beginning of their relationship (but im not quite sure about that).)
Also I think that Olgierd met Gaunter only 1 time when he was asking him for help, not 2, like you said. And Olgierd didnt wished to be immortal, I think he wished to "live like there is no tomorrow", you know to live without any problems, with happy ending etc but Odimm interpreted his wish... well you know how. Why I think that? Because noone mentioned about Olgierds immortality (his wish), Professor Shakeslock and even Gaunter said Olgierd wished to recover his property (yeah I know Iris mentioned that Olgierd wished Immortality on both on them, but when we take rose she dies, so how is she immortal). Olgierd could just add "... and to live like there is no tomorrow" as non significant addition or something like that.
Despite all of this nice film (I gave 500th like) and I have question "Did you save Olgierd"?
I did Save Olgierd, but the ending in which he dies is so awesome, Gaunter remains even more mysterious, whistling his tune whilst walking of into the distance.
WitcherGeorge Yeah thats true
francesca findabair would be a really good one :)
A witch told him about Gaunter.
Maybe!
You say Oldgierd sometimes
Again triss and yen
love these video's
