I’m convinced cats do understand us. I’ve seen way too many videos and experienced moments when a cat responded according to the words being said. Like- asking a cat to move or something. When I was young I noticed my kitten use a litter box but they never buried their “business”. I said this out loud and the kitten legit turned around and did just that.

You obviously have not met Milo and Lucifer my two cats they are the most vocal and annoying cats I have ever had in my life. The weirdest thing is that they constantly want attention which is really opposite of what cats usually do they love to be held love to be cuddled and they love to have a constant attention and be outside even though they’re both know they are inside cats and they cannot live outside.

The manner that he vocalises definitely appears to be conversational or storytelling although all that comes out is “moof” or “MA-UR”

I have 6 cats used to have 7 but one just passed unfortunately but I can confirm 1000% they understand and can be taught words most of my cats just meow normally but I know it’s in response you can just tell especially when you talk to them and they respond on que looking straight into your eyes and every time you do it it’s not just a coincidence and my oldest cat I taught to say actual words as much as a cats capability would have like she can say “mom” “out” “now” “no” which she uses to get my attention, get food or water, go outside, or just in general express something like if she says “no” and they all come to a whistle that is a specific tone and pitch like a little signal and they all know it’s me so even my outside cat knows it’s me calling and will come back inside to the whistle meowing mom the whole way back to the house or if theyre all inside the whistle brings them all to the same point of the house cats are extremely intelligent but there definitely are some with all animals even humans that genuinely just have static going on in their little brains 😂

My pug finds me barking and hangry and settles down when I tell her the chicken breast is still cooking in the oven. Later, she comes find me to let me know it has cooked properly and is ready. These animals just don't talk because they don't want to pay rent.
I mean they probably can understand your tone and certain words, just like any other animal can learn certain social cues of certain species. Every cat also has their own behaviour and cats are social and community animals that would live in groups, so it's not strange for them to learn your patterns and recognise them. The cat at least probably understood by her tone that she was trying to bargain or give a justification. And if it moderately understands the word "fix" then that's all it needs to understand the whole exchange really lol

Our cat is so affectionate it's crazy lol. Never have I ever seen a kitty that always wants to nuzzle. He will wait for hubby to get home from work and meet him at the front door if inside or will come running to the house at other times. He gives the best hugs and he will pin you down and melts on you. If you move and disturb his nap he gets very cross and let's you know it. 😂😊

I'm not so sure whether he actually understands what she is saying but yes - that "nooo" always melts my heart. My cat also responds when we call her and "talks" to us and the cats of my friend also "talked" to people. It is so cute. 💕 Btw I heard that cats imitate the tone of the people surrounding them so cats from different countries have different "accents" as well as the people.
I lost my cat Storm about a year ago to kidney disease, he was so sweet and cuddly and friendly and talkative like Chase, I concur, cherish your moments because even years and years are not enough time with some of the sweetest animals

Most breeds of dogs and cats actually DO have the vocal chords to talk, and they're entirely functional (which is why their pitch and tone is similar to humans)
The only thing that stops them from speaking is their brains, as the parts of their brain that are responsible for forming coherent speech is not as developed as ours is.
So, what you're REALLY hearing when you hear an animal 'speak' is actually not their own thoughts, but their best attempt to emulate the way they've heard other humans speak to each other
(Hardly works, though, being as we all just think it's cute ❤️)

My pug finds me barking and hangry and settles down when I tell her the chicken breast is still cooking in the oven. Later, she comes find me to let me know it has cooked properly and is ready. These animals just don't talk because they don't want to pay rent.
I mean they probably can understand your tone and certain words, just like any other animal can learn certain social cues of certain species. Every cat also has their own behaviour and cats are social and community animals that would live in groups, so it's not strange for them to learn your patterns and recognise them.
The cat at least probably understood by her tone that she was trying to bargain or give a justification. And if it moderately understands the word "fix" then that's all it needs to understand the whole exchange really lol

Our cat is so affectionate it's crazy lol. Never have I ever seen a kitty that always wants to nuzzle. He will wait for hubby to get home from work and meet him at the front door if inside or will come running to the house at other times. He gives the best hugs and he will pin you down and melts on you. If you move and disturb his nap he gets very cross and let's you know it. 😂😊

I'm not so sure whether he actually understands what she is saying but yes - that "nooo" always melts my heart. My cat also responds when we call her and "talks" to us and the cats of my friend also "talked" to people. It is so cute. 💕
Btw I heard that cats imitate the tone of the people surrounding them so cats from different countries have different "accents" as well as the people.
