Every time I see him, I instantly think of ROC. I miss that show. I still watch it every now and then here on youtube, as of today, 9/15/2023.
All movies of real life highschool stories and lessons from the 80s and late 70s need to be played in school classrooms again. I remember in the 80s and early 90s our teachers always used movies like this in their lessons plan

Best character in this movie was the judge he delivered justice here! A very sad story indeed of wasted football talent. But as he said "Even rising star athletes are not above the law." and "Son when it comes to violating the law, it simply doesn't matter that you can run a football down the field.". They were held accountable for their actions.
Shout out to my great uncle Freddie James! I use to go w/him to some of his games, as a little girl. Him and aunt eva. RIP(Aunt Eva)…….Legendary, COACH JAMES!

I went to carter (04-08) it was the wild west up there at that time... back when everybody would meet up at the dairy queen after school😂 miss them days but Carter was blackballed when i was there. What happened back then still lingers now but we've had some star come fron here since... Sha'carrie Richardson, Michael Crabtree, Johnathan Majors, and plenty more

This is why I’m glad I had a real and raw father growing up. He taught me there is good, clean teenage boy trouble, and bad trouble that changes your life.
He explained good trouble is trying to skip a class here and there, or trying to sneak in the house after missing curfew. He explained sure you’ll get detention or get grounded, but that doesn’t change your life.
He explained bad trouble involves the law. And, if the law is involved, your life can and most likely will change for a long time.. selling drugs, robbing, weapons, etc.
He explained there is nothing cool in the hood if you have a record that follows you for life. Jobs are messed up, where you live are messed up, and you most likely will struggle until you die, or at the least until you get very old.

Yea you right things would've been different for the team and school, but as people do you really think if those kids were kicked off the team they wouldn't have resorted to more crimes for money since football was definitely out the question now?
Yep, it's like Andy Griffith explained to the father of that spoiled boy with the bike...kids must learn to respect the law and make the right choices or else when they grow up they will be likely to break the law and go to jail. Little wrongdoings if not "nipped in the bud" can easily grow into bigger wrongdoings, as we saw here.
The part where the coach says it's a matter of choice it's actually a matter of heart

I know what it was like for a athlete from a poor family in a small town where football was everything I started when I was twelve I was six feet and three hundred pounds at twelve my first year I started then I went to jr varsity i played my second year working and fighting tooth and nail by my third year of football i had my starting position and there was nobody coud have took it from mei was a monster I was fifteen sixfeet tall and three hundred pounds for some reason i never grew any taller but when i practiced aand worked out i was gaining sixty pounds every year during athletics but i was just fat i was hard my chest was hard my arms were twenty inch biceps no fat i just had some around my waist and body the rest was hard and my mindset was even harder when i touched the field nobody could touch me (my edge) and i believed it and everyone else did too even new york state college who had a scholarship coach said he was putting me up for all state defensive guard nose guard actually I was Soo ready to leave this bullshit place but next off season I was messing around with my brother having a jumping contest and came down wrong cracked my femur long ways and tore my left knee all too hell it wasn't two years later every one forgot who I was seem like

I just got through living in Texas the last 18 years, and have followed HS sports nationwide since the 70's. They still talk about this team there to this day. Yeah, guys like Jessie Armstead signed with Miami, but they had guys go to and/or sign with Tennessee, Florida State, Baylor, Texas Tech , Houston and well over a dozen other D1 major schools, just off of this team that year alone. And Houston was a national power then, in the SWC. The year after this team, Houston's QB won the Heisman. Its really unbelievable the risks these guys took....crazy, because this was the most talented HS football team in U.S. history tbh. Thats really saying something too, because Texas has so much talent in football at the HS level, their 3rd rate players could beat the top teams of half the other states in the nation. In the state QF playoff in this movie....when they played Marshall, yes, thats Odell Beckham's dad scoring against them. He went to LSU.

Why is it hard for them to Understand??? Gary didn’t complete his work assignment so he got a 68%, then they transfer him to Dr. Abby’s class and they “cooked the books” (falsifying) to bring up his grade to 72% and once they get caught they don’t understand what’s going on and they play victim when their team gets disqualified???

To my knowledge, paddles weren’t used in high school. I didn’t know if one player had bad grades, the whole team couldn’t play. They should have gotten that kid a tutor & worked on his grades instead of switching teachers. And talked to the team about how important keeping up good grades were. That coach (according to this movie) seemed like he was a good coach & really cared about the boys. Did no one notice at school when they started having money & dressing better than usual. So sad what having money & wanting more does to people. In high school I would have loved a 4 year full ride. As soon as they did their first robbery, they were locked in. It appeared so easy to them until they got caught. I don’t think it would have been the last. If they didn’t get caught, and needing money in college, I think they would have done it again. Would be interesting to see what their lives are like today. Doesn’t seem right after all the court battles and they won the state title to have it taken away 3 years later. I feel like it was because of the robberies. According to the movie, those were all after title was won. If it wasn’t meant to be, they should have never let the team play. Luckily the players not involved all kept their scholarships.

I watched the movie amazing actors but was a very sad movie those young men realize that they had the very golden opportunity right in there hands that millions of people would have loved to have a blew it over something like that they could have been Doctors lawyers teachers coaches but instead they chose chump change from robbing there community so sad
